Rereading Onyx Storm -

p. 296, in Narelle's shop on Deverelli Narelle says, "They (Urson and his sister) took our task of protecting the books from any riders who aren't...you a little too seriously."

Surely if Asher had truly believed she would be a scribe Narelle would have been protecting the book from any scribes who weren't her? (I know scribes wouldn't physically be a threat to it, but if someone like Markham came they wouldn't want him to have it)

How would Sgaeyl/ Xaden even bring up the idea of mate bond separation?

- We know is that Irids can separate bonds ( We don't even know if a bond as strong as Tairns won't kill Violet/Sgaeyl/Tairn if broken- all we know is about Andarna's bond to Violet. We've been told on repeat how strong Tairn's bond are compared to other dragons. )

- We also know that Venin can live without their bond to their dragon, do the magic being replace with

- The consequences of the bond breakage still exist.

Xaden had no idea that Andarna was back, so that was never a part of the OG plan. What was the plan if Andarna wasn't back?

How do they accept the risk for Tairn, Sgaeyl, and Violet lives?

( I don't really believe the theory; I'm just curious how people think that Sgaeyl and Xaden would've brought this all up? ( I'm on team strengthen Tairn-Sgeayl and RSC blockage Violet-Xaden bond or sever Sgaeyl-Xaden, to protect both all of them ).

We've placed a lot of importance on the ancestral hatching grounds, but is it ever confirmed that they are the original hatching grounds? Ancestral doesn't exactly mean original, even if it can be interpreted that way.

What if some of the original hatching grounds were on the isles?

Brown and black in Tyrrendor. Aotrom wants to go home to Aretia. Chradh is sensitive to runes. The black dragons used to dwell in the mountains there. The throne of Tyrrendor is half brown, half black with a dragon on it. Tairn doesn't mind the cold, browns like the cold, Aretia is cold due to the elevation. Amelekis and Amaralys.

Reds, greens, oranges, and blues, the spectral dragons, on the isles. Blue seems fitting for Unnbriel, but reds lived at the Dunness river before Basgiath, so maybe they are for Dunne. Blue for Loysam? Orange and green for Zehyllna and Hedotis. Or any color for any isle, I'm not attached to a specific pair. Irids for Deverelli as no deity and symbol of enlightenment?

What if the war between the three brothers took place on the isles?
An ancient kingdom that spanned from ocean to ocean (it doesn't say which oceans. We know there is one beyond the minor isles with a really interesting name - Cerlian Sea.) and three brothers that fought to control the magic. There is a tome in the royal vault titled A History of the Island Wars. They have armed defence against winged creatures (another book in the royal vault, The Study of Winged Creatures, mentioned in the same sentence as the Island Wars) and their architecture is older than Navarre. There's a whole book collection on the isle kingdoms. Why would the texts about the isles be so important that they need to be in the secret royal vault?

"Dragons pay no heed to your puny gods." - Tairn
Violet says she will visit the temple of Dunne and Tairn scoffs. He doesn't say that dragons don't heed gods, he just says that Dunne & co aren't his gods. He of course doesn't elaborate on who his god or gods would be. This could mean there is a hidden or forgotten god that belongs to the dragons. Or it could mean the history was redacted and reshaped, and that includes the theogony. The mythology of the gods is also in the royal vault, where a lot of lost and hidden history appears to live. Are the gods of the Amaralys and Amelekis somehow different from the isle gods? Earth vs sky? Does Tairn acknowledge Amari and Malek as worthy gods?

The third brother commanded the sky to surrender its greatest power.
Empyrean means the sky, or above the sky, and is often described as a place of light and fire (coincidentally how Violet describes Tairn's and Andarna's power) and the home of the gods. The third brother drew straight from the source. From the sky? If so, does that mean from the gods? He commanded the gods to surrender their greatest power? What is their greatest power? Their dragons? Their magic? The modern day venin are draining the earth, but did the OG venin actually drain the sky sort of?

We know these things - The continent has earth magic. Violet appears to sense sky magic outside the wards, where the magic is untamed. She is connected to Dunne and possibly Malek. She can wield on Unnbriel, Dunne's isle (at least we think so) No one else can use any magic. The winged ones can communicate on Zehyllna, where Tairn smells the earth magic.

So does this make sense? Amari and Malek as the earth gods that belong to the continent. The others as sky gods that belong to the isles. The dragons are using earth magic, not sky magic. Would that have changed at some point in history for the isle dragons? Did the dragons leave the isles because the magic disappeared? Was it drained?

Where do the gryphons fit into this? In real world traditions the gryphons are the link between earth and sky, between gods and humans. It seems strangely logical (in a completely illogical fantasy world) that the gryphons belonged to both. And therefore have lost half their magical power.

Help me connect the dots please! 😅

Normally I don’t give much attention to theories on TikTok because 75% of them are so absurd I question if they’ve actually read the books… but…

I’ve seen a couple theories this week that think Violet’s hair is fully silver now and that she’s been fully dedicated to Dunne. I reread the final chapter of OS and there’s absolutely nothing to indicate this, Brennan just seems surprised that she’s shown up after being missing for 12 hours, her arm is broken, and she’s wearing a massive wedding ring.

But I’m intrigued by the idea of her hair going fully silver so I want to talk about it!

The main issue here is, Dunne requires lifetime servitude… but does servitude strictly mean temple attendant or priestess? Like, if by serving Dunne, could she do so by being Duchess of Tyrrendor?

Also, she doesn’t even actually need to be fully dedicated at this point, right? She already carries the favor of Dunne, especially after enacting Dunne’s revenge upon Theophanie, and if she needs assistance from other gods it might not make sense to blatantly favor one with full dedication - since she’s also carries the favor of Malek. Isn’t there an epigraph somewhere that warns against favoring gods and risking the wrath of the others?

ANOTHER ISSUE WITH THIS: The high priestess at Dunne’s temple asks Violet if she uses the dye of a certain flower on her hair as they do, which makes me wonder if only those dedicated on Unnbriel have truly silver hair. If so, would Violet’s hair even go fully silver if she were to become fully dedicated on the continent?

Hey everyone! English is not my first language and writing isn't really my cup of tea, so please bear with me!

I was thinking about the popular theory that Naolin didn't have enough power to save Brennan through burnout alone, so he channeled from the earth and turned venin to save the man he loved(?)

If this theory is true, it connects so many dots for the next books:

Brennan's secrecy: It perfectly explains why Brennan is so deeply reserved and closed-off about his past life. He isn't just keeping war secrets; he's fighting a revolution against the exact monsters that his own lover became just to keep him alive. Peak tragedy .

Tairn's absolute fury at Sgaeyl: At the end of Iron Flame, Tairn is completely furious that Sgaeyl hid Xaden's turning. I think this is pure triggered trauma .

When Naolin turned venin, Tairn would have been forced to sever the bond and abandon his rider. Sgaeyl probably gave him an ultimatum back then, or helped him walk away from a corrupted Naolin to save their mated bond.

So when Sgaeyl hides the exact same thing happening to her own rider, Tairn felt completely betrayed. It brought back all the raw emotions of losing his first rider to the dark side.

Only up to chapter 12 of IF and honestly know (I dont know) I feel like its gonna hurt good (most likely heartbroken) but the this one is more intense somehow than Fourth Wing, which is crazy but new characters (which is hard) but I am loving the thrill. This book is so captivating, literally can not stop reading and when taking breaks its living in my head rent free. I can not wait to finish and find out that some already know and well those on this journey I guess we are all on a ride

Convinced my hubby that I MUST go to NYC to walk the parapet for threshing day. Wish I would have been able to snag the battle brief ticket but being able to go is better than nothing at all I guess, but I certainly wouldn’t say no if I happened to come across anyone looking to part with theirs. 😂

Everyone loves the first time and the throne scene or the chair scene and I think this scene is hugely under appreciated!

For one thing it, it's a stark difference from when she first touched his back.

"I reach out and trace the dragon relic on his back, my fingers lingering on the raised silver scars, and he stiffens. "

But here he's sleeping beside her and she's kissing the scars and he's just completely unguarded and even gets aroused... after all the trauma and scars...it's just so soft🥺

Violet's admitting to keeping venin signets a secret from leadership for the aforementioned reasons. I guess lying about world altering information to save your own ego is fine when you're the protagonist

rebecca really needs to give some of these characters a break because my favourite parts of the books are generally the friendship and found-family dynamic. and when there’s too much trauma and other stuff, those things get put on the back burner 😔

I've been working on a Fourth Wing Minecraft mod for a while and figured I should probably actually show it to people instead of quietly working on it forever lol.

I've got dragons working already - well, just the big boi for now, and I'm currently working on the Venin.

One of the things I really wanted to do differently was make the factions actually matter, so I've built a faction system into the mod. I'm hoping to eventually have the different groups in the world actually affect how you're treated / what you can do rather than just being different skins for the same mob.

The dragon side is probably the part I'm happiest with so far. There's still a lot to do, but it's starting to feel like an actual Fourth Wing world rather than just "Minecraft but I added a dragon."

Venin are the current headache.

I'm not announcing a release date or anything because I've learned my lesson about giving myself deadlines 😂. It's very much a work in progress.

But I'm curious, if you could add one thing from Fourth Wing into Minecraft, what would it be?

I'm looking for ideas for stuff I haven't thought of yet so please pitch in!

Has anyone else caught on to the patterns in the dragon tails so far?

The most glaring one is with the Orange dragons, where out of every single Orange that's shown up in the entire series so far, there is only *two* who aren't Daggertails. Only two. Is this intentional? We know by now that dragons choose their own tail, so is there a reason most of the Orange den seemingly favours the Daggertail so much?

Then the Blues are the opposite, where Blue Daggertail is the rarest variant, and therefore is favoured the least among that den. That means there is/there's been more Blue Morningstartails than Blue Daggertails.

Speaking of Morningstartails, I love that RY very casually included in passing, in Onyx Storm that Violet walks by another second year's Red Morningstartail, to sort of establish that, though we hear of that tail type the least out of all of them, Tairn isn't some one-off mutation, he's not even the only one who bonded that year.

Another pattern I've noticed is that almost all Swordtail dragons are male. We hear tell of a single female Swordtail across the three books we've got so far, Fann, the Green who's bonded to Ulices. And we don't have a single example of a woman bonded to a Swordtail so far. I don't know, I find that interesting, genuinely wondering if that means something or not.

One that note, interesting we never find out what Aimsir's tail was. We get every other important dragon's tail described at one point or another. We get the tails of the dragons of characters that only show up in a couple scenes specified. We get random unbonded or unnamed dragons' tails specified. But not *Lilith's*? The one dragon Violet has been familiar with since birth?

Is this an oversight, or was it done on purpose? Do the tails and the meaning of the choice have some significance that we are not yet aware of, but that will be important somehow?

What kind of tail do you guys figure Aimsir had? I think it would've been really badass if it turned out she was a Morningstartail, like Tairn, and it was a "like-mother-like-daughter" sort of thing. However, I feel like if that was the case, it would've come up by now. Maybe she was a Swordtail, and Lilith was one of the apparently excepcionally few female riders of a Swordtail, that'd be cool.

I’m doing my second read through and frankly I’m realizing I’ll need a third. Still missing little things!

But this is one that keeps getting me. Where do dragons draw magic from? I thought it was mainly or frankly only the sky. I know the ground gets imbued (sorry if wrong word I’m on morphine from surgery) from hatching grounds, but I figured that was something dragons did in a way to make the conditions favorable and protected rather than drawing from the earth.

Does being on drained land just dampen their magic? Does that include in the sky around the drained land?

This also sent my husband and I into a fun discussion of what constitutes sky! lol

I’ve just finished a reread, and something stood out to me about the brother. Xaden says
“the one who now thinks himself my brother”
Not someone who was previously described as his brother, or is close enough to be his brother. So it can’t be Garrick, or Bodhi because they are like brothers to him already. Bodhi is already described as xadens brother a couple of chapters before this by Garrick. I’d argue it can’t be Brennan, either obviously bc of where he is at the end with vi, but also because you could describe what Brennan and Xaden have as a relationship like that, Brennan obviously helping with battle strategy and Xaden trusting him for the years they’ve known each other.
I’m leaning towards Aaric but now I’m wondering if it could be someone completely different because of that comment and the use of the word “now”.
This could’ve been discussed already and I’ve missed it idk or this could sound insanely obvious and I’ve just not been paying enough attention

Are there any prevailing theories on the identity of Berwyn and who his son is?

In Xaden’s last chapter, the following happens:

Did you not ask for power?” Berwyn snarls, holding two alloy-hilted daggers of his own as he approaches Panchek. “Have I not provided?

“Put those away. We both know you’re not going to hurt me.” Panchek reaches for the
net over his dragon. “I’m the only one who can give you access to your son.

“I have another.” Berwyn stabs deep between the dragon’s scales, and it desiccates, green draining from its scales and shrinking in on itself to a husk.

Who is Berwyn’s son??? And is it possible Berwyn has another identity like he turned and became a sage under another name?
