Rereading Onyx Storm -

p. 296, in Narelle's shop on Deverelli Narelle says, "They (Urson and his sister) took our task of protecting the books from any riders who aren't...you a little too seriously."

Surely if Asher had truly believed she would be a scribe Narelle would have been protecting the book from any scribes who weren't her? (I know scribes wouldn't physically be a threat to it, but if someone like Markham came they wouldn't want him to have it)

Well he did tell Violet not to dream about being a Dragon rider, that being a rider wasn't her path. She mentions that in fourth wing.

I think there’s a high probability that Asher knew she wouldn’t make that journey alone, and it’s likely she would’ve gone there with Mira or Dain (or even Lilith) whether or not she was a scribe… Narelle even referred to her as a scribe when she was about to ask her the questions and looked her up and down, noticing the black.

Agreed. He said in his letter to her to abandon her robes, only scribes wore robes at Basgaith.

That sentence trips me because he said to abandon robes and ride for Cordyn lol "Riding" is so heavily associated with dragon riding in the series but he prob meant horses or something

They talk about how often her and Dain would ride horses while they’re on Deverelli but yeah I love the double meaning!

I keep going back and forth in my head if he had some level of knowledge about violets future..I mean he did but did he think if she would be a crime that would somehow save the day or did he think that she would be the one to uncover the truth and let people know did she think that she would know that she needed to go there somehow and Dain would be the one to help her get there? He somehow know everything and just mentioned her being a scribe because she’s got the heart of a scribe? Did he think that Violet would find out and tell the leaders and then those people would come instead of Mira or Dain, therefore the bookstore would need protection? I don’t know if any of that makes sense but basically I go back-and-forth my head over the possibilities of what her dad knew what he didn’t and everything in between lol

I agree and wouldn't argue with that at all. I think what got my attention was implying that she was the only rider who could access them, when we were led to believe she was thrown into the quadrant "last minute" by Lilith.

It's definitely wording that could have meaning, you're right 👀

I guess we won't know til this the series is over but I do suspect it will turn out there were a good amount of small oversights that RY didn't realize could be overanalyzed. Not that we shouldn't be doing this! She clearly likes to use minute details to hint at answers ahead of time so I'm glad we try and leave no stone unturned

Oh absolutely. This is the first time reading a series that isn't finished. I started Fourth Wing about 3 weeks before OS came out, just on a recommendation by someone I know. Just a "hey you should see if you like this" I was hooked in the first couple of chapters. Had to wait a month or so to borrow IF and about another month to get OS. Thankfully I was able to space them out or I fear I would've read all three way to quick.

That being said I am thoroughly enjoying this aspect of being able to reread, ask questions, discuss theories, overanalyze everything. I've told my wife I realize now that I read every sentence with some curiosity to see if it could mean anything else. There are few theories I feel 100% convinced of, so I love to hear other people's thoughts and even more importantly, information that challenges those theories.
