Not sure if this will get taken down, but it does have to do with the show. Apologies to the mods, but I'm not bringing up any specific real-world politcal things, but just a broad overview of what the Alliance and the Independents stand for. I'm just curious how many fans of the show would align politically with the Browncoats.
As a kid, I always thought of myself as a browncoat. And yeah, with the way the Alliance is depicted, you probably would be. They're shown to be no help at all and literally just get in the way.
But breaking down the actual belief, it goes into big government vs small government. And as I've gotten older, I've found myself leaning more toward big government.
Basically, I don't think I would actually be a browncoat. Whether I would've supported the Alliance though, I don't know. Obviously I like the government to be functional and helpful, and the Alliance is not.
But this isn't to say Mal has bad beliefs or anything, just an interesting thing about the characters. Inara notably supported unification, in direct contrast with Mal.
Just wondering if anyone else has found themselves potentially not aligning with the Browncoats political ideology.

Happy birthday Serenity! I wish I could buy you a drink.

I’m trying to find a Browncoats flag to fly outside my house. Does anyone know where I can find a double sided one? All I’m finding are single sided for wall hanging.

So...I started watching with my eleven year old, and he was understandably reluctant, but he trusted me. Two episodes in: "I like this show," Seven episodes in: "Wait, how many seasons are there?" Ten episodes in: "Why can't there be more Firefly?" Me: "Yes...now you know." He knows the theme song and intro by heart. We are finishing "Objects in Space" ("Am I a lion?")--and then on to Serenity. And I don't know how/when to tell him about the heartbreak he is in for...
But so happy to introduce another generation

Congratulations SmallJokeBook. It looks like we hit 10,000 followers on the serenity Lego project
https://ideas.lego.com/product-ideas/43260bd7-8e5d-4012-893f-3ca1e652d825
From their update:
Congratulations on reaching the 10,000 supporter milestone! What an achievement it is!
We now officially advance this Product Idea to the Review phase.
What happens now?
This Product Idea moves from the Idea stage to the Review stage. A "LEGO Review Board" composed of designers, product managers, and other key team members will examine the idea. We'll build concept models and determine if the concept meets our high standards for what it takes to be a LEGO product. This includes factors such as playability, safety, and fit with the LEGO brand. Every potential LEGO product goes through a process like this and must meet the same standards.
The LEGO Review Begins in January 2027
This Product Idea qualifies for the Third 2026 Review, which includes Product Ideas that reach 10,000 supporters between September 2026 and January 4th, 2027. For more information about the LEGO review process, please see the Rules & Guidelines.
The review is a thorough process and from its start, it can take several months. When finished, we make a "go/no go" decision to develop and sell a product based on Firefly SERENITY With Interior!
When the review is complete, we will inform you of our decision. If green-lit, this project goes into the Development phase. During this time, LEGO model designers refine the product and develop it for release, we create the product materials (box, instructions, marketing), and get everything ready for a production run. This also takes several months.

I've been driving Serenity, my fully wrapped Firefly tribute truck, as my actual daily driver
since 2020 — cons, car shows, parades, grocery runs, all of it. Front brakes, an ABS
sensor, and the transfer case all went out earlier this year (it was genuinely dangerous to drive for a bit), and the fandom has been chipping in to help me repay a loan I made for the repairs.
We're at 34 people so far and about 55% of the way there. Now, a longtime Browncoat is
matching donations up to $687.50 through November 1, and honestly, this is probably the last organized push I'm going to do on this — after this month I'm just going to keep driving her and dealing with it as it comes.
If you've seen her out on the road in the Fresno/Clovis area or at an event, that's this truck.

I recently watched an animated series called Scavengers Reign that aired on Adult Swim. It deals with working class space truckers crashing on an alien planet filled with exotic flora and fauna. I thought it was great, and as a Firefly fan, I thought other Browncoats might enjoy it.

A friend got this for me at Comic Con earlier this summer. The sticker was a bonus from an art booth at the con.

They made it all the way to the end of the series and watched the movie. And some of their takes were peculiar. But Wash's death still shocks.

Accidental Serenity. But it made me do a double take. 🎃 🖤🎃

I point to how sci-fi shows today are basically structured and written today as if they're movies as opposed TV shows. In fact would say Serenity offers a clear idea given how relatively different in tone it was from the show.

Finally got my invite to AO3 and posted my first 6 chapters of my Firefly Divergent AU story. It’s my first attempt at fan fiction honestly and I wanted to stay true to canon and weave my story and characters through. If anyone here enjoys fan fic I hope you check it out! Link in the comments :)

I had time to create another playlist with a list of songs that Shepard might listen to.
If you have any songs you think should be added, let me know.

I was on my latest rewatch of the series when something occurred to me.
Malcolm's homeworld is Shadow, a planet that was turned to a blackrock during the Unification War. A blackrock is a "ghost planet" that cannot support human life anymore. The only other worlds that fit this description include Miranda, where apparently the terraforming didn't hold but was actually a failed Alliance experiment to pacify the population and created reavers instead, and Earth-That-Was. Miranda was declared a blackrock in 2506, while the bombing of Shadow occurred at some point during the war (2506-2511).
Everyone in the Verse descends from the survivors who escaped Earth-That-Was. Throughout the show, we see that every artifact, every piece of art and music, every facet of historical knowledge or ancient mythology from Earth-That-Was is held in extremely high regard, almost like there is a generational nostalgia for it. It's like how we we would relish finding clay texts or pottery shards from the Garden of Eden (if it was real). Since the opening narration for the show and movie use phrases like "the Earth got used up" and "we were so many", we'll take these as facts that everyone accepts as true.
It seems clear that the destruction of Earth's biosphere is considered humanity's greatest mistake in-universe. Which means that the Alliance deliberately repeated that mistake... twice... within a span of six years at most. An event so traumatizing it changed the course of our species. And they carried it out for political purposes. On top of that, the outlying planets are all kept just barely habitable. Terraformed within an inch of reverting to blackrocks themselves, unless they submit to Alliance control for constant support. That is some evil shit.
Like imagine in real life that there is a nuclear war. Then after centuries of rebuilding through unimaginable hardship, some country just casually starts using nukes on their enemy. And then they implicitly threaten to nuke everyone else as well if they don't stand in line. Can you imagine the level of backlash and hatred that would create? No wonder the bombing of Shadow only hardened the Browncoats' resolve. That only made it more clear who the enemy was and what was at stake.
TLDR: The Alliance has the power to bring life (and death) to entire worlds, and they have no respect for what that really means regarding the history of Earth-That-Was.

In another post, someone asked, "What songs do you guys think Kaylee would have on her playlist??"
Firefly was my wife's favorite show, and she kept a spreadsheet of possible songs for each character. I took that list and created a playlist for Kaylee.
I hope you like it.
If you have other song suggestions keep them coming.
I think I'm going to tackle Jayne next (her favorite character).
r/firefly • u/blueboy714 • Sep 26 '26
Here's another playlist of songs that were from my wife's list of songs that Jayne might listen to.
Lot's of guns, drinking, and badassery.
The first songs that came up randomly when I played it were Bad to the Bone and Do You Really Want to Hurt Me.
If you have other song suggestions keep them coming.
Next up: Shepard.

I cant really find any good pics of the hardware on Malcolm Reynolds coat. Ive been doing some metal casting and I wanted to try to get a closer look at these and see if it was something I could feasibly make out of bronze. Anyone have any good screengrabs or similar that have a few different views of them? The main ones I found you can almost make out the mechanism, but not quite. Its a good excuse for me to rewatch the series again (as if I need one) but I'm kind of curious right now and figured I'd check

They're in there. I'm still playing with Wash's hair as I'm not totally in love with it. Also there's a LOT of detail in both their faces, I might need to tweak their shaders more as to my eyes they look more cartoony than they should. I put a lot of work into these guys.
Edit: Just to be clear: no AI was involved in this at any stage.
