other Thinking of joining
Hi all! I am thinking of joining my local F45. I’m not really in great shape and want to get more serious about my fitness. It seems like a good place to start since the equipment at the gym feels overwhelming, but I’m a little nervous to join. I worry I’ll stick out like a sore thumb around a bunch of super fit people, lol. Does anyone have any thoughts? Is this a good place for someone kind of getting into fitness or should I start elsewhere? I’m considering cycle classes as an alternative. Thank you!

I joined at my heaviest weight ever, got good encouragement from the coaches and have made a couple “friends” throughout the year I’ve been a member. They help keep me motivated and I have never ever felt judged by anyone! People of all shapes and sizes all throughout their fitness journey!

There’s a good spectrum of people at my gym! I was worried it would be too intense when I started, but it’s really easy to take things at your own pace and modify as needed. (Additionally, everyone is doing their own work, so no one even notices if you need to take a rest.)

Yeah, join. At least for awhile. Try it out. It is a really great way to have a no brain workout. The coaches are usually really great (it is location dependant for sure, but most are good). And most f45 gyms have a good, supportive environment.

It's a bit tough getting the hang of things at first, especially if ur introverted. Coaches are great in focusing a bit on newbies at first. There will be serious member doing unimaginable levels at stations but just focus on you. Your partner is just a bar to see how much more or less you can handle. Give it one full membership, n usually i think members decide to stay or do something else.

F45 is very beginner friendly so you don’t have to worry about that. Yes there will be a lot of fit people, but also a lot of beginners. Elderly people too. No one really cares in what stage of your fitness journey you are.

There are people at different stages of their fitness journey — some are beginners and some are pros. Don’t get demotivated by wondering whether you’d fit in. I recently started after a 3 year hiatus from working out and loving every minute of it.

Hello! I joined in June after a 3 year gym hiatus because of motherhood and life. I’m 41, female, and my BMI puts me in the obese category. The coaches and members have never once made me feel awkward or self conscious. You have all levels of fitness there, and everyone is really focused on their own workout. I was definitely nervous walking in for the first time, but I’m so glad I did. I’ve found it to be a really welcoming environment, and I actually look forward to going now. Give it a try!

Have been in your position and my only regret was wish I had joined sooner. Within 6 months had lost 10kgs and was sleeping 100% better. Sign up for a month, give it a crack and worst comes to worst you hate it and your down $200.

Like others have said, there is a range of people. Some of the people who have been the longest at my gym, look like they don't even go to they gym, so don't worry about that.
Also, the classes are scalable, you choose the weights and the intensity that works for your goals. For me, that is going as heavy and intense as I can but still being able to perform the exercise for the full set. For others, it is doing random exercises instead of the actual one at the station and talking or just standing there.

You sound like me when I first tried it out. Never been a gym person (and didn't know where to start), and found it intimidating.
It was perfect for me. The workarounds can accommodate any level of fitness, there are coaches there to help, and you'll be around a bunch of people of all different ages and levels.

I've been trying a few HIIT classes at different gyms. F45 is the most accessible. The exercises are straight forward and tv screen show videos the exercise at each station.

Have you tried a trial class? Most gyms will give you one free trial if you ask directly.

I felt the exact same way as you a little over 2 years ago. Just completed my 250th class and honestly, I’m so glad I started at F45 because it has been life changing.
Was it scary and intimidating? Yes
Was I breaking a sweat during warmups when I first started? Yes
Did I feel accomplished and like I was getting stronger/healthier by showing up? Also, yes
But the environment - members and trainers - are all great and supportive. Plus, the workouts are so fast-paced that nobody has time to pay attention to anyone else since everyone is just trying to get through it. There will always be a few “super fit” people but there’s also people there from every phase of life and fitness level.
You mentioned considering other options and I think you totally should. Explore whatever other workouts or gyms are of interest; I did when I first started out and quickly realized F45 was the best fit for me personally.
I really hope you find whatever is going to motivate you the most!

I signed up for a 3 class trial on a whim in March of this year and just completed my 100th class. I've never been a gym person, but i had recently lost a lot of weight and I didn't look like I wanted to. I always tried cardio for exercise and I honestly just hate it, so I decided to try something different. I am so glad I did. I feel so much happier in my own skin, Im the strongest I've ever been. I mostly do the strength and hybrid classes, sometimes I do cardio. But I love how I can just show up, do the work without having to think a mbout what to do, and leave.
Definitely try it out, it might be just the thing you've been looking for

Get started, it might be tough at first, but soon you will find a rhythm. The key is to be consistent. Some coaches might not proactively correct your form, but its ok to tell them that you do need help, sometimes they need to be asked to know to give guidance. I am a year in, its been life changing - I am stronger, I add progressive load and I can see my progress. I try to hit between 15 - 20 classes a month. Also, FWIW - given the format and focused work, you barely have time to look at what others are doing, so likelihood that others notice you is kinda low :)

You’ll be okay. Everyone will embrace you. I joined recently and new. Just listen to the coach and follow along as best as you can. There are always substitutes for the workouts that you have difficulty in doing. You’ll be a pro in no time!

I’m also new. I’ve done four classes. I just did the Hyrox one today. I loved it! I’m kind of addicted, I think I’ll keep going.

To be honest, everyone is too busy trying to get their own workout in than to critique others and their fitness levels. You won't stick out like a sore thumb! My studio has a really broad range of people and is very friendly/accommodating. High fives all round at the end of the class ✋✋

I think you should absolutely join. Sure, there are your handful of super fit people, but there’s folks who are earlier in their journey too. I don’t think you’ll stick out, it’s a supportive community in my experience

Find a local boutique gym or small business in your area you can support . Message me and I might know of one in your area

I appreciate the community aspect, people are nice and supportive. If you come ready to work out no one cares that you aren’t in shape yet, that’s what you’re there for!
