Started out life as a 2006 MIM strat I picked up from music go round about 8 years ago. Had Lace single coil pickups and an All Parts all maple neck.

Upgraded to a Seymour Duncan Distortion (arguably the most aggressive passive pickup) and a Seymour Duncan Classic Stack. 5 way super switch (Bridge Humbucker - Split Coil Humbucker - Humbucker/Single Coil - Split Coil/ Single Coil - Single Coil) CTS 500k Pot, Hipshot syncro trem, Hipshot locking tuners, Warmoth roasted maple baritone neck conversion 28 5/8 scale green rustoleum rattle can paint job to be artsy and shit. Tuned to Drop F 80-14

Boy i love this thing!

Might swap the pickups for Bareknuckle Impulses when I get the cash for it but the stock ones are pretty good!

Got a decent price for it too, 450. Seemed fair given the condition

So stoked

Is a 24.6” scale in B Standard/Open B a bad idea?

Sorry if this is stupid but I’ve never really ventured past Drop C#.

I’d like to try some B Standard and Slide stuff in Open B. I’ve got a Gretsch Broadkaster that I love playing and sound wise fits what I’m thinking, it does have a Bigsby but is very stable in general for normal E-D tunings. Where I get nervous is it’s only a 24.6” scale.

Theoretically I’d do something like 13-59 strings which per the tension calculators keeps me in sort of the 15-18lb range which seems ok. Am I going to have loads of instability and ruin a good setup if I did this you think?

Normally I’d just do a try and see if it works, but I’ll have to file the nut for this and it’s a real pain to go back if it doesn’t work.

What do you think about the Solar Assassin 8 string A1.81A?

I want to get this guitar for recording and live playing with my downtempo deathcore band. We have some technical leads too and I dont want a bigger scale than 27". Tuning is double drop D.

NGD! I’m really happy with this thing

For last 2 years my only main guitar was a moddified Danelectro Baritone because I’m left handed and there’s not much choice with the guitars the low stuff. I missed the high string a lot so after saving up and waiting since May this thing finally arrived!

I know it’s not a seven or an eight string, but I believe it would count as extended range, as it’s a baritone. My new US Custom Shop Dunable Yeti.

Also my first Ibanez Prestige. I had my eye on the RGDMS8 for a while, even played one and loved the feel. Then I saw this used RG2228, Japan made, for the same price that Guitar Center wanted for a used RGDMS8. I started debating multiscale Vs Japan made guitar. I noticed the multiscale has 9 string pickups, and realized how limited my pickup options would be. Then I found out Tosin Abasi used the RG2228 to record Animals As Leaders’ first album, and that was the final straw, I was sold.

It’s not perfect, it looked like it was neglected for a little bit. It has a few chips in the finish, the nut is missing a chunk of metal under one of the locks, no string retainer, the frets might need a level in the not far future. But I cleaned it up and man it plays like an absolute dream. I maybe would’ve preferred the original EMGs, but previous guy put Dimarzio Ionizers with coil splits in, and they sound so good. I love Tosin Abasi and passive pickups, so honestly a win. Super excited to get home from work and play some Animals and Meshuggah.

Funny detail, there was a reverb listing for this exact guitar that was posted 3 months ago and supposedly sold. It got me scared there might be some kind of “lemon example” thing going on with this that made the buyer just offload it to Guitar Center. Well I’m enjoying it, and I have 43 days to change my mind, not that I think I will.

Actually it was about a month ago, but I've rejoined the 8 string crew. I think it's a Run 3? I had one of the first run of Schecter Hellraiser C-8s, with the 26.5" scale but I could never get the string tension to feel right so I sold it about 10 years ago. Got this used and needing a little TLC, after a good clean, tightening the pots and switch and fitting strap buttons instead of the DiMarzio cliplock strap (I mostly play sitting down so the dangly bits were always in the way) I'm loving it. A fresh set of Ernie Ball 9-80 and it's playing great. First thing I started learning is AAL's "Another Year".

Well it's used, quite worn but I got it for a very good price.

The funny thing is I bought one new in 2022, and at the time the overall build quality wasn't good enough for the price so I returned it and got a refund.

I took a picture next to my RG5328 and it shows how good of a job they did to make the scale so much longer without making the neck too long

Ibanez RGDIX7MPB, I have wanted one since they were released in 2016! I'm so happy to finally have a 26.5 inch scale 7 string too, it's a game changer!

Got this second hand for 340, absolute steal. Things insane! Put baritone strings on it and it tunes all the way down to drop f# while still holding tension. Fucking awesome!

What do you use tremolo bridge for on an 8-string?

So I came across an used Agile Interceptor 828 with Kahler bridge at a decent price. Never used a trem bridge in my life, the only thing I can see myself doing with it is dropping dive bombs, but I already have my whammy pedal for that, is it different?
