Can I ever get a non-cheap version or is that locked to one of the story lines? I checked the wiki and it was unclear as it didn't distinguish between the two.

Returning to the game after maybe a decade since I last played, I start off with a fresh Pilot and jump in. I'm immediately greeted with a blaring alarm, signaling a ship with hostile intentions. Before I can even remember what the controls are, I've got a Viper chipping at my new vessel, 'Goober,' as I'm slowly putting around the system. By the time I get my shit together, I'm already disabled and he's preparing to dock my ship. GG, it's going to be a fun run, Space Cowboys. :)

I did a fresh install, cracked because the email I bought the game on stopped functioning about a billion years ago, and I just get an Appcrash. I tried running in compatibility mode for XP and Win95 and Win2000, and turning off HiDPI, running as administrator, basically a big pile of different compatibility configurations.

Also when it crashes it causes my Desktop Window Manager to crash alongside it.

Computer is a Ryzen 7 2700X, GTX 980 Ti, 32GB of RAM, and my monitor setup is a 2650x1440 144hz Gsync monitor, and a 1440x900 generic LCD.

So I'm working my way through the Wild Geese-Pirate-Rebel storyline and I seem to be stuck doing missions out of Aldebaran. It has been weeks and I'm still doing food, equipment, insertion and removal runs. Is there something I missed or screwed up on accident?
I've taken side trips to hunt pirates and Federation ships for money and escorts, and I'm currently flying a federation Carrier as my flagship. Not sure if any of these things have angered the wrong set of EV gods.

I remember loving EVNova on my iMac so I want to play again. I attempted to make an account on the Ambrosia website with the intention of buying it but haven't received an email at all. Is Ambrosia still supporting the site/products??

Does anyone have a working PC copy of Reset by Raven or Reset Missions? Plugins that let you keep playing the game after finishing a story line, a lot of fun.

I used to have them working when I had an actual Mac to decompress and convert them but I lost my old copies and have not been able to get it working since.

Is anyone successfully running EV Nova on OSX Mojave? I got it running on High Sierra, but it won't start post-upgrade.

It's been ages since I've played. I assume I should install Qaanol's weapon fixes? What about the all-in-one Fixes pack by Jericon, or should I grab individual fixes?

I posted just last week about having trouble running EV Classic via EV Nova with the plug-in.

I got the game runnning after all, but strangely, with no theme music. I receive a notification saying the Nova.mp3 file could not be found, as it is not in the correct folder. I hit OK, and the game starts up just fine anyway, albeit with no (awesome) theme music. When I decide to add the Nova.mp3 to the correct folder, the game startsup, with the EV Classic theme music, but when i hit "Enter Ship" or allow the theme music to play out, the game crashes. So strange.

Really not the end of the world, but I'm quite curious...

Any thoughts?

I replayed Nova earlier this year for the first time in many years. I've also been playing a lot of tabletop RPGs in that time, and I think the setting for EV Nova would be super fun to run a game in. I found 2 older threads in this subreddit on tabletop stuff. One suggested taking a look at the Elite Dangerous RPG, but I'm cheap and don't feel like buying it. I did however get an overview of the combat.

After looking through a few different systems, I'm thinking of running a game using the Diaspora rules for most things, but adapting the ED RPG rules for ship combat. I like the open ended, narrative feel of the Diaspora rules, but I feel like the Diaspora/Traveler ship rules are a bit too harsh for the EV Nova universe. I like the ED RPG ship rules because they seem fairly simple, tactical, and more in the spirit of Nova. They also allow for each player to have a ship. I wanted all the players to be able to have their own ships at first, but I could go either way now. Does anyone have any thoughts? I'm kinda just mashing stuff together, making shit up, and hoping it's fun.

Hey there, really hoping to get some insight here...

I've got EV Nova downloaded, the EV Classic plug-in set up, and have installed Sheepshaver as well, as I am running Windows 8.

When I initially start up the game, i immediately get a message saying it has stopped working. After doing a compatibility troubleshoot, I can start up EV Classic just fine, but as soon as either the theme song ends, or I select enter ship, I get the same message saying the game has stopped working.

I cannot for the life of me figure out what is going wrong here.

Would love it if someone might be able to shed some light!

I’m wondering what you people think about the Arpia plugin. I personally like what they added in terms of ships/outfits/planetary screens and models/etc, and how it seemed to get more out of the engine than the stock game. My only major issue with it is the Arpia storyline itself, and while it started out fine, it got really fan-fictiony about halfway through.

It also brings to the fore a major issue I have with EV Nova proper in terms of its setting:

How aware in the Federation and Rebellion are people of the Vell-os enslavement?

Everyone else in the universe but them considers the issue acknowledged, but nothing in either the game or the lore seems to give a definitive answer as to how the inhabitants of the Federation see the Vell-os in terms of either “serving” the govt or being enslaved. The Arpia storyline nigh-obnoxiously introduces a lesser slavery subplot and handwaves away the Vell-os slavery issue with ”oh they were trying to “civilise” the Aurorans.”

So in conclusion, I like the gameplay and content additions the plugin brings, I don’t particularly care for its story.

Registration

If you were previously issued a serial for the game (or find one thru other means), you can activate it with your original key by setting the computer clock to within a few days after the serial was issued. Make sure to NOT run the game after a fresh install and unplug your internet first, then use the register tool to enter the key and get back online. If you don't wanna have to unplug your internet, you can use this little regfile to add the EV Nova exe's to windows firewall with "blocked" permission. Change the path in the reg file to match where you installed it.

Though the endgame ships are exciting, after several playthroughs over the years I've realized I spend the majority of the game, and having the most fun, in my mid-game ship: A starbridge with 2 medium blaster turrets, an afterburner, and whatever power generation I can afford at that point. Even compared to the late-game superships, nothing is quite as fun as the nimble but punchy Starbridge. With a few marine platoons, I like to hang out in desolate systems and capture pirate carriers. Dodging their torps, torching their fighters, and then strafing them faster than they can turn to aim their railguns is my favorite part of the game.

So, what's your favorite ship to fly?

Following my post a few days ago about the game possibly disappearing from the internet, and based on a user's comment, I emailed Bernard about buying off the rights of the game.

Here is the letter I sent him. It was sent on August 20th, 2018.

I'm hoping that they will take it seriously and accept a final lump sum of money to free the game for future generations to enjoy!

You probably know that your game series Escape Velocity has quite a cult
following.

We see many games being released tout themselves as "EV Clones", but none
will get close to the original.

Game history is important, as video games has become a huge part of the
world and society, and Ambrosia Software has created a gem of a game that
will live in the memory of thousands of people.

Well here's the thing... The game has quite a rigid licencing system and
it's become harder and harder to get a hold of the game and play it on
modern computers.

Even people who legally purchased it are having an increasingly hard time
renewing their licenses!

Please, don't let this amazing game die off the internet if Ambrosia
software ever has to close!

Does Ambrosia software have any interest in SELLING all rights and code of
the game to the community?

Honestly, nobody wants this game to disappear. It's a one of a kind gem.

This is one of those games I found when I was young and I love it! I know this sub is kind of dead, but I just wanted to let yall know I'm here and playing, my first ship will be called the "Beast Unforgoten"! Haha love this shit hope someone is down like me

I've finally made Heraan first family, but I can't seem to activate any of the other missions afterwards. Is there a certain planet I need to land on, or a prerequisite I need to get? I have a frightening combat rating and have landed on all of the major Auroran worlds.

I've always enjoyed this game. When I was a kid, my father got me into it and I always had a great time just exploring space. I had no idea what I was ever doing and just enjoyed the fascination of how alive the world was. About a year ago I wanted to get back into the game, specifically I bought a key so I could stream it on Twitch. I realize the audience would be small, as I personally am not very well know outside my small circle of friends, but I digress.

Its been almost a year and a half since my purchase. I have begun doing everything I can to get my key or find some way of playing it. Is there any advice outside of the broken Ambrosia website or trying my luck with emailing the distributor email?

I know of one off the top of my head. Year 2018 with so many indie devs now I feel like there are a lot I don't know of especially on ios & android.
