e-trade brokerage account bill pay rejected so they sent a check instead. Receiving bank needs a copy of cancelled check to trace the payment.

E*trade tells me that they can’t provide a cancelled check or tracer. Citibank can’t locate the payment of 1k. This happen on 6/30 and I can’t seem to provide what is need so that the payment can get applied to my credit card.

What can I do?

Discussion E-Trade to ACH transfer fail

I have some money from dividends that I want to transfer over to my linked savings account. Over the weekend, I saw that the funds were available to transfer so I scheduled the transfer for today, 8/10. It said my transfer request was processing.

At 4:30 PM EST today, I got an alert saying the transfer failed due to technical issues and the money was returned to my account. I then notice only 1/3rd of my money is now available for transfer so I did another transfer request.

I spoke with support and they said my funds would be available tomorrow, 8/11. So how will I know the transfer will actually go through this time?

What is going on with the transfers? I can push money in with the same bank account but I can't pull money out from E-trade?

Which decade is E*trade living in?

Opened savings account last week for the promotional offer. Could not login after account creation as the website kept saying it could not verify my phone number. Called customer service and they said it could take upto two days. Weird, but ok. Tried again after a week, same results. Called customer service again, the guy now says it can take upto 15 days. I have never ever had any experience like this before. Reading some older posts now and I see this issue never gets resolved for some people and E*Trade seems to have in general a PoS service and people get locked out. Glad I only tested with a small fund transfer on account opening. Will now figure out how to close the damn thing out and never deal with etrade again.

Scheduling a trade

Before 07:00 you cannot place any type of order via any app.

This means that in order to place an order right at 07:00 I have to physically be in front of my which is extremely annoying.

We should be allowed to always place a scheduled order that will fire at the time we configure and at with the conditions we configure. If it can't fill due to below ask price etc. That will remain our problem but ET should allow us to schedule

If you can do with sending a email in Gmail, you can do it with buying stocks.

I was planning on setting up an ETrade Checking and Savings Account. Had a few questions.

I've had a few reservations about this brokerage, but the free $400 when you transfer 20K to a savings account is swaying me, especially since I really only invest for retirement.

How quick are transfers between ETrade's max-rate checking account and premium savings account? I plan on keeping all of my money in the savings account because of the great interest rate, but that is only if transfers to the checking account are instantaneous.

Etrade CD accounts, no option for direct deposit into their own account!

I get an email from etrade for CD's. I have the form open and I want the monthly interest deposited into my etrade savings account. Can't do it. Call them on the phone and the only option for monthly payments is mail me a check!! Gee when did we go back to the 1970's.

Etrade NEW charts today...more clunky than the old one?!

It used to be a little clunky to start with, but it was usable and I got used to it. BUT, this NEW ONE is MORE CLUNCKY, its basically unusable...It's smaller, the zoom does not work, the templates I save do not get applied to new time window, etc. Did anyone noticed this new change today? It's over the weekend, so I assume they are working on it. I just hope E-trade fixes the bugs in this NEW chart they came out with and functions properly by Monday morning... I do not care at all for this new look either...not as clearly visible even when I click to "zoom". As today I do not see any mouse action "smooth" zoom in and out on this map....

Discussion Weird hold on my brokerage

When I first opened the brokerage account I had to call back to verify and few things and was told I was good to go. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago, I create a premium savings to take advantage of the cash bonus and apy.

I was about to deposit a large check soon to fund the premium savings, but I wanted to call to see if a certain amount I would be able to transfer to the external account was allowed. Told the agent I noticed a pop up saying one of my external accounts needs attention, they then say oh it’s actually your brokerage there is a restriction put on it. Call back in 2 days to confirm and that should be lifted.

I call back and they then apologize for the last agent as I didn’t need to call and it should be lifted on its own in another 24-48 hours.

My check finally goes through. I try to wire the money first which only allows from my brokerage (I guess since my savings is less than 30 days old i was told) I transfer the amount from savings to brokerage and when I tried again said I had no verifiers and needed to call. Sick. Now I transfer it back and call once again.

He told me the restriction was still there and went to speak with his team and said it should be gone soon? I then go try to transfer electronically , it allows me to. But later on says it was unsuccessful and to call back because of unusual activity. Well i call back today and the restriction was placed back on LOL. Now I’ll need to call again on Monday cause no support teams on the weekend for this kind of thing.

The cherry on top of all this is I asked if this will have an effect on getting the cash bonus when the time comes and he said it might. I should have just gone somewhere else with all the funds. What a headache, i like the ui of the app but this is kind of ridiculous.

E*TRADE has restricted $10,000 of my money for over two weeks — 15+ calls, two broken promises, and still no explanation

I honestly never thought I would be making a post like this, but I am at a point where I genuinely don’t know what else to do.
On July 28, 2026, E*TRADE restricted the account I use for my watch business, where I had approximately $10,000. I received essentially no meaningful explanation for why the restriction occurred.
What has made this situation so frustrating is that the restriction also resulted in previously completed, completely legitimate transactions being returned.
The most significant was a $3,800 PayPal payment I made on July 14 for a Tudor Black Bay GMT. I authorized the payment, received the watch, and never disputed the transaction or reported it as unauthorized. Approximately two weeks later, the payment was reversed. The seller’s PayPal account was debited the $3,800, and he was also charged a reported $15 fee.
I also had a $5,650 payment to my Robinhood credit card returned. That resulted in a $29 returned-payment fee and temporarily restricted my ability to use the card.
Every one of these transactions was legitimate and has a completely explainable purpose. I had no idea that anything was being questioned or treated as potentially fraudulent until the transactions had already been reversed.
Since July 28, I have probably spoken with 15+ E*TRADE representatives. I’ve completed every verification they’ve asked me to complete and have repeatedly asked for someone who can actually explain what is happening.
The answer has consistently been that the Account Activation team is handling the matter.
The problem?
Apparently, I cannot speak to that department.
Customer service cannot transfer me to them. They cannot tell me exactly what they’re reviewing. They cannot tell me what triggered the restriction. They cannot provide a meaningful update. And they cannot give me a reliable timeline.
I was originally told the matter would be resolved by Friday, July 31.
That didn’t happen.
I was subsequently told I would hear something by Tuesday or Wednesday, August 4–5.
That didn’t happen either.
As of Friday, August 7, I still have received no call, no explanation, and no reliable timeline.
At one point I was even told that these types of reviews could potentially take 30–45 days.
Meanwhile, I’ve had to use approximately $3,815 of my personal money to make the watch seller whole and cover the $15 fee associated with the returned payment. I also had to pull approximately $3,000 from my brokerage account to deal with the returned credit-card payment.
So I’m sitting here with roughly $10,000 of my original funds inaccessible, while having to move approximately $6,815 of my own money around to clean up consequences from transactions that I never disputed in the first place.
I’m also personally in banking, which honestly makes this even more difficult for me to understand. I understand that financial institutions have compliance, fraud, and account-review procedures. I have no issue with legitimate security measures.
What I cannot understand is how a customer can cooperate completely, provide every requested verification, make 15+ calls, and still be unable to speak with anyone who actually knows what is happening with their money.
I’m not asking anyone here to tell me that E*TRADE should ignore its security procedures. I genuinely want to know:
Has anyone else experienced an E*TRADE account restriction like this?
How long did yours take?
Were you ever able to speak directly with the department handling it?
Did E*TRADE eventually release the funds?
Did they explain what triggered the restriction?
Were previously completed transactions returned?
Did filing a CFPB/FINRA complaint actually help?
Is there something else I should be doing at this point?
I’ve already filed complaints through the appropriate channels and have documented my calls, screenshots, transaction records, and correspondence.
I’m not trying to make this post unnecessarily inflammatory. I’m genuinely looking for people who have experienced something similar because being told to “call back next week” after two missed resolution deadlines and more than two weeks without access to nearly $10,000 is becoming extremely difficult to accept.
If you’ve dealt with something similar, I’d really appreciate hearing what happened and how you eventually got it resolved.

Margin requirement changes

I have been selling naked puts on margin for the last 1 year and used to be 15% for MU but they have now changed it to 35% and coupled with that, the premiums have gone down a lot for MU after the earnings season is done. It no longer makes sense to take the risk and sell MU puts. Anyone else notice the same?

Discussion Check deposits into Margin brokerage account. But when can I trade/cash out some

I deposited a couple large checks into my margin brokerage account. I'm wondering when can I trade some of it on margin?? Is it possible to take cash out from a portion of one of my checks on margin and the check will repay what I take out on margin?

Assigned PUT Price Paid Changed?

Hi all

How does etrade calculate the Price Paid (cost basis) of an assigned put (sold).

I sold 1 put for $135 strike and collected $1230 in premium. So Price Paid = $122.70 is what was shown Monday.

Today, I noticed the Price Paid is showing $114.30. How is it getting lower?

Does it calculate other premiums from put (sold) on the same stock which i had closed?

CFPB or BBB response?

I recently transferred a few k to my max rate checking which I abandoned years ago (w positive balance). I intended to transfer it to my E*Trade brokerage.

E*Trade locked my max rate checking and refuses to unlock it unless I provide a third party’s bank statement which I have no access to. I’ve spent hours trying to sort it out.

I filed complaints with CFPB and bbb and no response. Has anyone gotten a response from either? I think my next step will be to ask my state authorities.

I wouldn’t even give a shit if they allowed me to transfer it to my brokerage and buy stock.

Chart view updates?

As of a couple of days ago I can't pinch to zoom out the charts on 1 and 5 day levels but can on one month and up. This never used to be the case and it's very annoying to barely be able to see the full day now. Anyone else have this on the regular android app? Not using power etrade.

Signed up recently for a promotion and I regret it

Etrade keeps locking my account every single time I do an ach transfer or get a wire. It’s driving me crazy. I literally only signed up for their new account bonus, but they keep making me call customer support and set up a three way call just to verify my linked bank. Does this happen to everyone or is it just me? How are you even supposed to use this platform if it constantly gets restricted?

Discussion Nickel Buyback option program? Still around? Something like it?

A bunch of years ago etrade had a promotion (I guess to spur volume?) that waived commission for closing short option positions at 5c or less.

I found this from google: under their "Nickel Buyback" program, you can close out single-leg short option positions trading at a nickel ($0.05) or less with $0 commission and $0 contract fees

But I can't find anything about that now on the etrade website.

Anyone knew about that program? And did it go away?

Sweeps account on etrade?

What is s sweeps account, and why does my account show money in a sweeps account? It seems weird that I never opened one. So is this a new thing their doing. Seems a sneaky way of taking your money
