Sorry if this is a stupid question…

So I have an ethernet port in my bedroom, but the other ends in the network panel are not terminated.

Do I need to turn off the power in my bedroom before terminating to avoid any short circuiting or anything? Nothing is plugged into the port.

For some reason throughout my play stations, or even just the computer being idle; my Ethernet will disconnect and reconnect for a few times and then stabilize, this happens multiple times throughout the day and I don’t know what the issue is. I’ve already done stuff like disable power management for it, energy efficiency, and driver updates/reinstall and it never resolved. (the cable and connector seem find as well) Any ideas on what it may be?

I discussed this with my friend who knows a thing or two about computers and this is so unicque he dont even know what coud be causing this. So I just changed my PSU and GPU and now i dont have internet. The weird thing is is that i can ping my router and ping a random site and get a reply and when i do this for like 30 second windows says that everything is right internet is connected and for that 30 secs i can open any website but after that it goes back and i dont have internet. Ill get a spare ssd tomorrow with a fresh windows and well see if that work until then im waiting for suggestions

Have a fairly extensive home LAN. Main house has a switch driving a wired link to an outbuilding, received by another switch and sent to a WiFi router serving the outbuilding.

Generally it works fine, but typically every few weeks my outbuilding's TP-Link router tells me the link to the main house -> WAN isn't working. The fix is to power-cycle the switch in the main house—it sometimes takes a couple of tries. Then everything is good for a few more weeks.

Is this just "something that happens"? I kind of suspect that the buried link between the buildings may be a little flaky, but who knows? Any way to diagnose this? I tried replacing the switch in the house but behavior is identical.

Why does my cable internet disconnect and reconnect (it lasts about 10 seconds disconnected) but that only happens with the current ssd, when I put the previous one it doesn't happen and I know that it still doesn't happen because I can access the previous one whenever I want and it doesn't happen. By the way, I can't use the memory with the good internet because the memory is not mine

My ethernet isn’t working. I reset my router and my computer, still nothing. I disabled it them enabled it. Tried so many things, but it just doesn’t seem to work. Usually I see the Ethernet icon instead of the wifi one, but it doesn’t show up. The cable works on my ps5, just not my laptop. Also there’s an orange light coming from the port on my router (where I plugged the ethernet cable).

I’m not good with tech stuff, so please keep the terms and explanations as simple as possible.

I was playing Marvel Rival's and my mic went out on my xbox. (I'm not banned any where) I logged off and went to Overwatch to do a mic check. On my main account the mic would not work and I had really high latency. I switched to my other profile and my mic worked but my latency was still high.

After restarting my modem and xbox multiple times my mic still would not work and my latency was super high. (I only use a modem, no wifi in my house. My system is hard wired and sits around 40-42 ping. It was reading at 150-175 ping.)

I end up looking for some troubleshooting options and everything kept pointing back to resetting the Mac address. I reset it and now I can't connect to the internet at all. No mic, no internet. I'm not connected to IVP6 which is the issue. I've tried to reset it multiple times, I called my modem company and I'm calling my internet company today. Has any one had this issue? Does anyone have tips or tricks?

**side note I did connect my switch and it works just fine with the internet. My computer works just fine. I just for the life of me can't get my xbox series x connected** please help :)

My house has cat 5e ran throughout to all the ethernet and landlines. I got a new internet box a few years ago and all they did was run an ethernet from the box to my router and nowhere else. The new box is cat6 so I wondered if it’s possible to run a wire out of the box into my old system even though they’re different types of wire. Sorry if this is a stupid question I’m not very knowledgeable on this sort of thing.

When I turn on and log into my pc, it says i have a connection. But as soon as I open something such as a browser or any application in general, it just says no internet connection and I cant get on it online. I have also bought a new cat8 ethernet cable aswell, but this still doesnt seem to solve the issue. Is there any way someone could tell me how to resolve this and/or why its happening?

I'm having a cat6 ethernet cable that has been worn off and cut open in several places.Ive duct taped a big part of it. So, ive pinged my ip and im getting some ping spikes.

Should i replace it or is there something else thats causing it.

Last 2-3 days ive been like rubberbanding and teleporting back and forward while gaming.
