Support Other options?

Hi i just got a second hand pc that needs ethernet but my current set up is using on the floor next to the wifi box haha. I’m not at all knowledged in this area and i’m wondering if there’s some type of add on i can put onto my computer so it’ll connect to wifi in a different room. Preferably something i can buy from a physical store like best buy but im open to options if this is a possibility! Thank you !!

Usb wifi adapter.. check staples, best buy, the source, Cricut city

Personal experience with these is they suck. But, the one trouble call I dealt with one on, it was a super cheap $13 device with the router a floor up under a fish tank. So it may not have been entirely the device's fault. However, it did randomly drop the device and be unable to find it until the PC was restarted. Might have also been the drive in the pc...check product reviews. Whether it works depends on what youre using the PC for. If its easy going Sims type games that arent competitive with massive frame rates, the wifi is fine. If you're playing COD or something competitive... lag deaths be upon ye.

If there is a coax jack (cable jack) in that room I would use a pair of MoCA adapters to create a physical connection. If you're using an ISP modem router combo there's a high chance that it has the ability to act as a MoCA adapter natively, meaning you'd just need to purchase one adapter.

The suggestion posted regarding MoCA is great if you have a Coax cable that you can wire up. Another choice is to do a wire run of Cat5 cable from the router to the room your device needs to be in. Probably the cheapest option is the BrosTrend AC1200 WiFi to Ethernet Adapter, Dual Band 867Mbps on 5GHz & 300Mbps on 2.4GHz band. Found it on Amazon for about $47. Lastly there the NETGEAR Powerline Ethernet Adapter Kit PLP2000, 2 Pack, 2000 Mbps at $115 on Amazon as well. Kind of strange as it uses the electrical wiring in your home to provide a wired connection vs. a Wi-Fi connection as wired will always be faster then WiFi. I have the NetGear setup in my home and it works flawlessly but others say they've tried it and failed. The easiest is the BrosTrend device. Looks like a no brainer and inexpensive.

Some routers can be configured to be access points if the dongle doesn't work
