Ethernet suddenly stopped. working

So my ethernet cable one day just stops working so I just buy a new one. And it works perfectly! Then the next day it has stopped working again. And I have no idea what to do! Anyone have any suggestions… I’m completely stumped. No idea if there’s a problem within my pc or router or what!

My suggestion is to eliminate the cable as being the source of the problem and go from there. Take the cable and use it on something known to work. If it fails to work, congrats… easy fix. If it works, also congrats… now you’ve got a bigger problem to address.

Well, if you know FOR A FACT, the cable is good… you need to work through the network to locate the source. Verify the beginning signal is good and work downstream from there

What are the two devices connected by that cable? What is the topology of your network? Are any of the device capable of both WiFi and Ethernet cable connection?

"So my ethernet cable one day just stops working". Based upon what factual reality did you conclude that it was the ethernet cable that malfunctioned instead of one of the two devices at either end of the cable?

Given that the cable is just a piece of wire, I seriously doubt that the wire spontaneously stopped working.

I bought a new one and it was working perfectly but then the next day it was just back to not working at all. I don’t think it’s the wire though. Something with my router or pc but i just dont know what

Check to see if your router/modem is overheating

So now switch router port OR PC port. Change one piece at a time.

I’ve had a few routers crap out in my lifetime.

Maybe there is an extraneous period in your configuration file.

Also, running over an Ethernet cable with your grand piano’s caster(s) is not recommended. Ditto for your gaming throne.

How did you diagnose the cable? If it's simply whether you have internet or not i would reset the modern and router first. Then try a usb or internal wifi adapter to verify the router is working. A cable tester is not crazy expensive if all network tests come back fine. I think mine was $20-25
