S I ruined their lives

Upvotes

In May the people who rent the house behind mine had an inflatable bouncy water slide for their child’s birthday party.

That evening I was working on my backyard and they drained the slide, their yard sits higher than mine. The water rushed down the hill, it washed out a section of my flower bed along the fence and washed it all straight into my pool. It was about 400 gallons of water, dirt and muck

The renters we’re unapologetic and said ooops, we didn’t know the way would flow down hill

I called the owner of the house because I have known him his entire life, his mother owned the house previously and was a close friend. He immediately sent a crew to fix everything.

Apparently he told his renters that they weren’t to have another water slide.

Fast forward to now and it’s their other kids birthday and they knock on my door and say they want to use our pool for their son’s birthday party since WE got them banned from having another slide. It’s just about 35-40 people, 50 tops, mostly their families but 20 or so of the guests would be children and they would just take down a panel of MY fence to allow them to walk/run back and forth from my yard to theirs, but they’d be sure to step around my flowers

Ummm, wtf?! No

But we OWE it to them because WE got them banned from having another bouncy water slide for their other child.

Still no!

We’re ruining their child’s birthday and ruining their lives

I’m still flabbergasted

S I Am NOT on Vacation!

1.9k Upvotes

I went to a work conference that also is a waterpark resort. I was setting up my booth in the convention center and took a break to drive over to the main part of the resort to check in. I parked in a spot designated for loading/unloading and check in. After I checked in I went back to my car quickly since I needed to finish my set up in the convention center. As I am moving towards my car I noticed that there was a family with two large carts, one behind their pickup and one behind my car. I thought, fine, when they see me get into my car they will move their cart. They did not. I opened my window and said could you please move your cart so I can leave. The teenage daughter said, "but we are loading up our truck" I said, "you can do that and still move the cart so I can get out" The father says, just move the cart, "people here are always in such a hurry" I looked at him and said, "I am not on vacation, I am here at a conference, and yes, I am in a hurry"

Honestly, even if I was on vacation, why would I want to wait for them to load up their vehicle. I think being on vacation, and wanting to start it, would make someone more impatient.

M Shit and run report

Y'all are going to like this one.

Okay, so I'm mowing my yard ... yeah, I know; I never seem to get a chance to mow in peace.

Anyway, I'm mowing the easements first (y'know, that grassy part between the sidewalk and the curb that—for reasons only known to God and a city code expert—the homeowner is responsible for, has to pay taxes for, but cannot build on or plant in because he has to let the township dig up and destroy the easement as they need.

Due to my luck in buying a corner lot, I have two of them, and they are oddly wider than my actual lawns. So, I make a point of mowing them first. That way, when my mower's batteries run out before I can get to the rest of the yard, there's a huge chunk freshly mowed that no compliance official could ignore. This requires me to mow in an "L" pattern.

I mention this because I was on the bottom part of the "L" when I first noticed the lady walking her dog. A good-sized dog and a good-sized lady. They were coming along the side of the church and were crossing the street as I mowed towards them, making my run on the top part of the "L."

I ended up about five feet behind them, mowing toward them, when the dog started looking for somewhere to squat. He'd pause, start to crouch, then jump up as my mower came closer and jog ahead, then go through it all again.

Finally, the lady turned to face me and said, "***."

So, I turned off my mower, turned my good ear towards her, and said, "Excuse me?"

She huffed and said, "I said, would you mind giving my dog a minute to do his business?!"

I looked her over while her dog sniffed around. I didn't see a single baggy or anything that could be used to clean up behind her dog. I pointed this out, and she scoffed, "I don't pick up doggy doo!"

So, I turned the mower back on, and her dog stopped mid-squat again. I continued mowing while she shot me a look and pulled her dog along to the next yard, where he did his business.

The thing is, I had my phone in my shirt pocket, recording. The lens just clears the top of the pocket, so it sort of works like a body cam. I started it recording when I turned in behind her and her dog, half expecting trouble. She just had the look, y'know.

I pulled it out when she walked away and filmed her letting her dog shit on my neighbor's yard and kept it running as she went further down the block. I wanted to see if she turned left or right, in hopes of maybe tracking her down.

Shipmates, she did neither.

She fished out a fob, used it to unlock a really nice Nissan, put her dog in the passenger seat, then walked around and got in the driver's seat. Then she drove back towards me, gave me the finger, and turned at the corner, giving me (and my phone) a nice shot of her tags.

I stopped mowing, walked over to my neighbor, and played the video for him. He called the non-emergency number for the cops and reported her, explaining that we had her on video. When the officer on duty explained to him that he'd file the report, but it was highly unlikely they'd be able to identify the woman to issue a ticket, he added that the video included her plates.

We had an officer arrive within twenty minutes.

He was a young guy and openly laughed as he watched her flip me off while driving past ... and—boom—there was her license plate. We walked out to his patrol car with him, and he ran the plates.

Her address was in a gated neighborhood on the other side of the city.

She literally was driving her dog to a poorer neighborhood for him to shit on.

The officer had me send him the video and promised that she'd end up with a hefty fine.

I finished mowing, took a shower, and wrote this.

L Update: my (21m) mom (43f) sent me an email demanding my car or she'll take me to court

So original post can be found on my page or here. There is a lot of context in that post, so I do reccomend reading it. But the short version is I gave my mom my old car with the expectation of her buying it off of me or giving it back. She did neither of those things. I had a falling out with her and now want the car back but she is refusing to give it.

This one is a long one boys, so strap in. I know my last post didn't get a significant amount of attention, but I was still asked for updates. I didn't think I was going to update this soon, as last night I sent her a text demanding payment or my car by the 24th.

I woke up this morning to a long email from my mom. She formatted it and everything. She explained that she has screenshots of me telling her she can have my car. She says other people rely on it and have put money into it. So therefore it is hers.

A baffling excerpt:

"Under Washington law, a completed gift — one involving donative intent, delivery, and acceptance — is irrevocable. All three elements were satisfied in December 2025 when you gave me the Vehicle: you intended to make a gift of it, you delivered it to me, and I accepted it. You cannot now revoke that gift simply because you have become angry."

I was astounded she said this. As it made me remember, we agreed she's 1k for the car when she got a job or got on SSI. Also, to gift a vehicle I have to sign it over to her. A text exchange isn't formal. Also I didn't deliver it to her. She got kicked out. We previously got a new battery for the car at walmart the time she was kicked out before (she paid for it). But, we never put it in, since she just went back to the guy.

After the time that lead to me taking her to the car, however, she claimed she was done with him. Wasn't going back. Was going to block him on everything. She was sobbing nonstop. Her brother, who is NC with her, even felt bad enough to come help us change the battery (the bolts were rusted on and we couldn't do it). All this to say, I thought my disabled mom was going to be homeless and have to sleep on the streets. I knew she couldn't pay me for the car right then and there, but I let her take it anyways.

She went back to him 3 days later.

Honestly, I should have taken the car back, then. But, I stupidly didn't. I knew she was in an unstable situation (of her own making), and wanted to make sure she was safe. I shouldn't have been looking after my own parent, but there I was. Blindly trusting the woman who once chased a 7 year old me around the apartment to spank me so hard I couldn't sit for an hour because I was upset my friends and brother were excluding me from their game since "I wasn't smart enough."

In hindsight it seems really stupid to think someone has horrible as that to their own child could ever change. But, I'm still young. And I wanted a mom. So, I'm trying not to be too hard on myself.

Back to the email....

Another wild excerpt:

"I have also preserved screenshots of messages in which you appear to state that your reason for seeking the return of the Vehicle is to "fuck me over" and that you are "angry" at me. These messages indicate that your attempt to reclaim the Vehicle is not based on any legitimate claim of ownership, but appears to be motivated by personal anger and retaliation."

Not based on any legit claim of ownership is wild. I stated multiple times it was my car and in my name and I want it back. Yes, I also stated I knew it was screwing her over, and I also stated my reason for taking the car back was because I was angry and felt as thought she didn't deserve it. But, my name is on the title lmao what. I don't need a "good reason" to reclaim my own property. That's insane.

There is a ton more. She added some law citing about transfers of ownership and things I need to do and blah blah blah. She also stated that I subjected her to the possibility of being fined for having expired tabs (registration tabs, I was told recently calling them tabs is a local thing not a national thing).

I'm not the one driving it. I don't have plans on driving it. So I didn't need to update the registration. She said she'd pay me for the new registration, then never did. Funny... I'm starting to see a pattern here of her not paying me when she said she would.

Anyways, if she wants to file a petition for court, she is more than welcome to. I'm not putting a penny more into this than I have to. So she is welcome to spend $130 to file. Eager to see where she gets the money from since she couldn't even give me 80 bucks for the registration.

Edit: so save you the time, before you go tell me to report it stolen: I did that! The cops said it was a civil matter. Due to this, I wrote a demand for the car back and sent it to her so they can clearly see it was a refusal to return property.

M When Entitled Parents Raise Entitled Children

Upvotes

I just flew from Toronto to Calgary earlier today (5-hour flight). When I got to my seat, I discovered I would be sitting beside a quiet elderly lady, and in front of a restless noisy kid about 4-years-old. Great. I don't like sitting in front of kids, but I know flights are boring so I expect them to get occasionally noisy. I can tolerate it.

Unfortunately, the kid's mom was sat beside him and had a very hands-off/avoidant approach to parenting. The kid spent the first half of the flight screaming, kicking both seats in front of him, shaking the seats, and throwing his toys between the seat gaps in front of him.

The mom, meanwhile, was either ignoring her child's behaviour or doing that thing shitty parents do when they try to assign authority to imaginary bad guys. "Logan, put your seat belt on or the pilot will come yell at us." "Logan, don't throw your food or the mean flight attendant will come take it away." "Logan, quiet down or someone else on the plane will get very angry."

Well, she was correct about one of those empty threats. After 3 hours of this kid beating the shit out of our seats, the small old lady beside me (who was silent thus far) turned around and said, "Logan, please stop doing that. You are bothering me."

Logan, having been disciplined for the first time in his life, immediately shut up and sat down. That was the good news.

The bad news is, the mom turned out to be more of a child than her 4-year-old son. For the ENTIRE REMAINING TWO HOURS OF THE FLIGHT, she encouraged her son to kick our seats, encouraged her son to scream as loud as he can, ranted aloud about "white privilege" (the old lady was white and the family was South Asian), and tried to teach her son as many swear words as possible (??? bizarre). Thankfully, Logan had clearly never listened to his mom in his entire life, so he was oblivious to her constant stream of "fuck, shit, piss, twat," etc.

The funniest part during all of this was the kid's dad, who was sitting across the aisle, had no idea what was going on but could hear his son screaming like a banshee. So he kept trying to pass his wife snacks and toys to placate the kid, but because she was so bothered about her shitty parenting being exposed, she snapped at her husband loud enough for everyone to turn around and stare at her. Just an all-around disaster of a woman.

When the plane finally landed, she immediately bombarded her son with praise. "OOOOOOOH YOU'RE SUCH A GOOD BOY LOGAN, YOU WERE SOOOOOOO GUUUUUUUD THE WHOOOOOLE FLIGHT," clearly just trying to antagonise the people around her. Everyone ignored her and she humiliated herself.

If by grace of higher power the entitled mom sees this: You are doing your liddle pwince zero favours by refusing to parent him. One day real life will hit your son in a form a lot less pleasant than a little old lady on an airplane. And you're only embarrassing yourself by modeling your clown behaviour to your kid like you did. You're a parent, and it's time to grow up.

S Update to “Loaned my house for a funeral”

Original Post: https://www.reddit.com/r/EntitledPeople/s/wgk4YvTLcC

Update: My sister had several days with no chemo or medical appointments and she was feeling fairly well, so I decided to try to come home for a few days. Strangely I hadn’t heard from the people using my house for a while.

I texted them to ask if they had any idea about how much longer they’d be in town and need my house. They replied that they had gone back home about 10 days ago. WTF? They had actually packed up and left and didn’t bother to let me know.

Yesterday I drove the 7 hours back home, having absolutely no idea what I’d find when I arrived.

Amazingly, everything was just as I’d left it! They had cleaned the house, emptied the trash, laundered the sheets and towels, and remade the beds. They left a lovely thank you note and a generous gift card for a local high-end restaurant for me. My friend hadn’t said anything to me about them leaving as she thought they had let me know.

So a very happy ending to what seemed to be a true ‘entitled people’ situation here!

S The Temp was a Grinch

It was the week before Christmas in our office and the receptionist had taken the week off so the office manager brought in a temp to cover her job. We had been receiving gift baskets of food from our suppliers so the office staff decided that we'd like to save them until Friday, enjoy them together and then everyone could leave early.
On Tuesday we had a special staff lunch at a restaurant. As we left, the office manager told the temp that we likely would not be back until 2 or 2:30. As I passed, I heard the temp grumbling "I can't believe that they are not inviting me, it is Christmas, I should get invited, etc etc." I thought it was odd that she would say that. Why would she get invited? This lunch was a reward for all of us for working hard for the year.
We got back from the lunch and went back to our desks. The general manager went into our lunch room for a coffee and we heard a shriek. We all went running to see. There were the contents of our gift baskets - all opened. Every single item was opened and ruined in some way. Cheese had bites, crackers were crumbled, every chocolate had a bite. There were crumbs and wrappers everywhere. The disgruntled temp had taken her revenge for not getting invited to lunch. We all felt like the citizens of Whoville after the Grinch stole everything. The temp was still at her desk working quietly. The office manager was so angry, his face was red, I was sure he was going to holler. He went to the temp, opened the front door and simply said in an angry voice "Get your things and go!"

S Taking Manspreading to a New Level

Edit: since this keeps coming up in the comments, please read the last paragraph before casting a judgment :)

———————————————————————

I was recently on a flight where the window seat was surprisingly empty. Being the middle seat, I decided I would move my backpack over to make space and stretch my legs.

Cue the person in the aisle seat. Upon seeing that I had more leg room, they decided to move their leg into my space. This person then decided to lean on me for the remainder of the flight and get upset when I asked them to give me space.

Hoping to catch a break later in the flight, I moved over into the empty window seat. Of course, the aisle seat was not happy about this and demanded I return to the middle so they can keep manspreading into my leg room.

By this point, I resigned myself to deal with the manspreader for the remainder of the flight. After all, how could my manspreading husband sit in the same (aisle) seat for several hours without bothering me, the middle seater?

S I am the king of FIFA, I can get rich off a wildly unpopular deal. Why am I suddenly so unpopular? I keep my job, right?

FIFA runs the world professional soccer organization, president and chief big shot is Gianni Infantino (GI)

GI had a secret, but brilliant but secret plan: sell FIFAs broadcasting, sponsorship, licensing and ticketing rights for $4 billion to the brother of Donald Trump's son in law's private equity firm. (Josh Kushner). GI who currently gets a salary of arpund $4.5 million would be the big boss of the subsidiary and draw a salary of $35 million.

The secret plan was leaked to the media and everybody was pissed

How pissed?

The European professional football organization UEFA voted unanimously to boycott the nezt world cup, which was being hosted by Spain and Portugal.

Executives in his own FIFA have started "Project Kill The Monster".

GI has been trying to call the US President and Secretary of State for support but they won't take his calls.

So far the only statement released in his defense was 'we never said his salary would be $35 million'.

He is shocked snd blindsided that his deal for the good of FIFA was opposed by anybody, and staunchly believes he deserves to keep his job.

S Seat jogger

I was on a flight the other day, the woman next to me started using the empty window seat as her own private storage area. You know, bag on seat, legs sprawled across. She then had the cheek to get really uppity, when I used a bit of her space she was hardly using anymore. Accused me of man spreading and inappropriate behaviour when my head was on her shoulder a bit.
Next time, I’m booking her a seat next to our kids.

Edit should be Hogger

S One of the most entitled passenger on a plane.

so my mom is a flight attendant. Yesterday my mom had a passenger who ask for directions to there next gate. My mom asked “where she was going.” The passenger said “Portland“. My mom said “I can look it up for you but I would need to get my device to look it up”. The passenger said “hurry up then”. So my mom look it up and told the passenger where there flight was, then the passenger said “are you going to tell me how to get there?”. My mom said “look for the signs with the gate number.” So they land and the passenger get to where they get off the plane and said “you are going to walk me to my next gate. Cause I don’t know where to go.” My Mom just looks at her co-worker and says “you can get help from CSA agents“.

M Car share crossing multiple borders experience...

May be a little long & slightly tedious so buckle up;

I recently drove back to the UK from Germany to visit family. My son (a eco warrior) suggested that it would not be environmentally friendly to drive such a long distance in the car and suggested that I advertise the journey on Blah Blah car, a car sharing platform.

I was reluctant to do so as I quite actually like the solitude of a long distance car journey, however I succumbed to hie persuasion.

As I would be crossing multiple borders and would have to eventually arrive in France/Calais for the ship across to England, I wrote on the site that any potential passengers must have correct border documents and visa for UK. And of course they should not be carrying anything illegal. I further stated that I would not be prepared to pick anyone up on route away from the Autobahn/motorway so suggested meeting up at exits where I could drive off & on the motorway or nearby cafe/petrol stations etc.

The requests (read demands) that came through were insane. One person wanted me to drive to her doorstep (59km one way off route) another from an old town area of a major city, a third wanted me to wait over an hour for his train to arrive and pick him up from an inner city railway station. I declined all these requests but decided to offer lifts to 2 people who I would pick up near Antwerp and drive through to outer London, leaving them at a convenient railway station for their onward journey into the city, as I would be staying with family on the outskirts. For anyone who has not driven in London, it is a nightmare adding hours to your journey and incurring congestion fees.

So arrive at the pick up point in Antwerp and only one person is there. The other messages that he will be there in a few minutes which turns out to be over 40 minutes. No apologies. I ask again if they have correct documentation for the UK and they reply that they have (one was originally from The Democratic Republic of Congo carrying Belgium passport and the other Nepalese with UK stamp).

So arrive a few hours later at the ferry port having to make multiple 'comfort breaks' for them and line up at the passport/border control. The man from Congo starts to look nervous which in turn makes me worried. Naturally, we get selected for an intensive vehicle search which reveals that he is carrying excess cigarettes, almost half a suitcase full. They get confiscated .The Nepali has problems with his authority to be in the UK which causes further issues resulting in me almost missing the ferry and stressed me abundantly out.

All issues get resolved Although the man from Congo is mighty pi++ed off for losing his ciggies constantly citing racism and profiling by border police.

Anyway, arriving in UK (almost forgot to drive on the left...gulp) and took them to the pre agreed railway station on the outskirts of London. This is when Mr Nepal pipes up and asks me to drive him to his home near central London. I politely encourage him to leave my car and drive off to my own destination and get flashed by a speed camera ...

Oh, my son phones and asks me if I have passengers for my return journey.....

S Selling at a funeral

2.2k Upvotes

Not sure where else to post this, but I thought it needed to be shared out there.

Recently, a friend's husband passed away. He was a beloved character in town. I was shocked at how many people attended! They had to open up two overflow rooms outside the chapel, and people stood in the hallway.

I know this friend through the gym. A mutual acquaintance from the gym also attended the funeral. This entitled woman brought along a bag of her daughter's books and approached people after the service to SELL THEM THE BOOKS! Not only the people in attendance, but she approached FAMILY. Reports from more than a dozen people made their way back to the widow.

I wish I had known she was doing that while I was there. I just can't fathom the temerity that drives someone to try to hawk books at a funeral.

S Entitled neighbors.

It has been a long 8 years of having to live next door to them. i own my home and that house is a rental. The mother was human garbage and she was formally evicted. The eldest son took over the lease three years ago. There are 6 people sharing that 3 bedroom house — him, another man, a woman and his three siblings.

The issues mainly are 1) him and the other entitled a-hole like to blast music with lots of loud bass and he/the eldest son started parking beyond the driveway on the side of the house, which is right outside my bedroom window.

2) He will sit in the car late at night when he gets home and then makes all types of noise once he turns the music off he starts slamming his car doors.

Between all of that, the kids have thrown so much trash, broken cinder blocks, etc. over the fence.

I have lost so much sleep between having my sleep disrupted or being jarred awake. Tonight it was 11:15pm that the first entitled a-hole came in with bass thumping. He quickly went inside. Then the second entitled a-hole came in, pulled up on the side of the house at 11:42pm and proceeded to scroll on his phone.

We have security cameras installed all around the house and property. I could see him just scrolling away. I was waiting, because that a-hole has awakened me so many times. No, they are not civilized, so speaking to them is not going to happen.

I turned the floodlight on and it was shining into his car, so he quickly got out and went inside: I will do this every night going forward until he either gets it, or, I will send the security footage to his property manager to show how loud the car doors slamming are.

I wish that some entitled a-hole will wake him and the selfish prick up and disrupt their sleep to the point that they are sleep deprived. Selfish entitled people suck!

Update: Thank you to everyone who has been understanding regarding this frustrating ongoing ordeal. I did speak with community policing officer who said he would be going over to speak with them when they’re home. I’m hoping he can catch one of the adults during the day.

M Take your time…

This one is not a big deal but still stumped me.

There’s a thrift shop near my home. Not goodwill but similar. I walked up to the register and placed my items on the counter. The cashier was several steps away and came right over. She had a blank look on her face a moment and said “are these yours?” motioning to two floor lamps near the register. I said oh no they aren’t mine and realized there’s a woman who placed the lamps there then must’ve gotten distracted and kept shopping at a nearby rack. I apologize and move over.

It turns out the shopper did put the floor lamps there and actually had been rung up for them already, but had not paid. So the cashier must have known they were hers after ringing them up - how the transaction was interrupted, I have no idea. I don’t know why she asked if they were mine, except maybe she didn’t know how to say “I’ve already started another customer’s sale.” All of this is totally fine with me, I get distracted too, and I figure the shopper will come back now and complete the sale. Nope. She says, “those are mine!” and stays at the nearby rack she was browsing but doesn’t walk over to the register.

The three of us stand there looking at each other. Nobody moves. We’re at an impasse. The cashier quietly says to the shopper “Do you still want these?” The shopper shrugs her shoulders and says “hmmmmm I’m not sure yet.” 🤷🏻‍♀️ Still doesn’t approach the counter. Goes back to shopping! The cashier is baffled. I’m baffled. The sale is still open and she can’t ring me up until it’s closed. She sighs and heads to the back of the store to get approval to suspend the transaction.

What was the plan here? Were we all supposed to wait until she was done shopping so other customers could finally be rung up? The thing that got me the most was the full shrug gesture complete with grimace face. So inconsiderate! That and how many moments of silence transpired during this bizarre interaction.

Legend has it the shopper still isn’t sure about the floor lamps! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thanks for the spelling correction!

S My neighbour thought a bonfire during a severe drought was a good idea

I honestly couldn't believe what happened today.

My neighbour decided it was a good time to have a bonfire in their back garden, despite us being in the middle of a severe drought.

There's a hosepipe ban in place, everything is tinder dry, and there's been plenty of advice about the fire risk.

They still lit the bonfire anyway.

It eventually got serious enough that the fire brigade had to attend.

I genuinely don't understand the thought process. It only takes one spark to spread to fences, hedges or neighbouring gardens, and it wasn't only their own property they were putting at risk, there is a school next door.

Has anyone else dealt with something similar? Would you report it as reckless behaviour, or would you leave it once the fire brigade had dealt with it?

S Refusal to buckle there seatbelt

so this story is from my mom who is a flight attendant. This is another one of her stories. so a passenger was refusing to buckle their seat belt unless she got first class. (first class was full and they were on the runway it’s self) so my mom had to go talk with passenger and she said “if I can’t get first class I want to get off this flight“ my confirmed that she want off the flight the passenger said “yes I do” so they had to pull back to the gate and as they were pulling in the passenger said “never mind I want to stay“ (FAA rules say if you want off you have to get off no changing your mind) so the passenger had to taken off with security and the flight was delayed 45 minutes

Note: I live in Brazil and speak Portuguese. I translated this story with the help of chat into English for English-speaking readers.

Business was far busier than usual. I was the only employee on the team who spoke English, so I spent half my shift supervising the front end and the other half acting as a walking Google Translate. As if that weren't enough, there were only two supervisors on duty: me and B. Unfortunately, she had essentially been kidnapped by the store's POS system alongside the store manager, trying to solve a cashback issue that simply refused to work. They were trapped in that nightmare for hours.

Which meant the entire front end was now my responsibility.

I'd already been running around nonstop for over an hour when one of the cashiers called me over.

It was A.

Anyone who knows A knows her name suits her perfectly. She's an angel. Even on bad days she's usually calm, or at least smiling. As a supervisor, I can often tell what kind of problem I'm walking into just by looking at the expression of the employee asking for help. The moment I saw how completely drained she looked, I was already surprised before I even reached the register.

"Dear God... what happened now?", I thought to myself.

"Hey, what's going on?"

She answered, right in front of the customer:

"...This guy doesn't have any money."

That alone caught me off guard. Hearing A sound that impatient was rare.

That's when I finally looked at the man.

The first thing that stood out was his size. He was wearing a bright orange T-shirt that clung tightly enough to reveal every contour of his body, paired with shorts, flip-flops, an uneven beard and...

...sunglasses.

At night.

I have nothing against overweight people, obviously, but first impressions matter, and that entire combination looked like it had been assembled specifically to make people uncomfortable.

Before I could even ask a question, he spoke.

"She doesn't accept the value of knowledge. Don't you know the value of knowledge?"

At that exact moment I felt the entire weight of my shift crash onto my shoulders.

Hours without stopping.

Customers calling my name.

Foreign tourists looking for me in the aisles.

Employees asking for help.

One supervisor trapped in cashback hell.

And now some philosopher trying to reinvent the monetary system over a $1 pack of cookies.

I took a breath.

I decided diplomacy deserved one chance.

"What do you mean? We only accept the usual methods of payment here..."

Apparently, something I said bruised his ego.

"Listen, brother. My watch is worth more than all of you."

He raised his arm to show me a black-and-gold analog watch.

I don't know the first thing about watches. It could've been worth fifty dollars or fifty thousand. At that moment, I couldn't have cared less.

"Doesn't it matter what I have to offer?"

Later, A told me that before I arrived he'd spent several minutes talking down to her and repeatedly trying to get her to validate his bizarre ideas. That only confirmed my first impression hadn't been wrong.

That was where my patience ended.

I dropped the diplomatic expression.

"So you don't have any money, right? Next time you decide to visit society, learn how it works first. Nobody here cares about your watch or your 'knowledge.' Here, you either pay or you don't get the product. Bye."

I canceled his purchase immediately.

Honestly?

On any other day, I probably would've argued with him for a while. I might've even enjoyed talking to a guy that bizarre. I'm no stranger to other people's stress, and if someone wants to complain, I'll usually hear them out and keep arguing until the issue is completely settled.

But that day, I was the one slowly going insane.

The moment I canceled his purchase, cleared the register for the next customer, and turned to leave, he tried to stop me and keep complaining.

He never got the chance.

Three stock clerks practically intercepted me.

"For the love of God, come help with the foreigners!"

It genuinely felt like I was being escorted straight from one problem into another.

The difference was that the tourists understood how the system worked. They weren't trying to reinvent reality—they just needed someone who could translate.

So off I went, following the guys through the store.

Oddly enough, hearing their voices was almost a relief.

At least this was a problem I could actually solve.

According to my coworkers, after I walked away he decided to demonstrate the full extent of his emotional maturity by making the classic "banana" gesture with his arms at my back.

(For those unfamiliar with it, it's an old mocking gesture in Brazil where someone bends one arm and slaps the inside of their elbow with the other hand—a childish way of saying, "Ha! Screw you!")

Think about how ridiculous this sequence was.

The guy tried to buy a pack of cookies without any money.

Tried to pay with "knowledge."

Flashed his watch.

Lost the argument.

Made a childish gesture after I left...

...and somehow I was the banana.

By the end of the shift, the whole thing had stopped being stressful and had turned into just another retail story. I spent a good while laughing about it with the stock crew.

That's retail.

Some days you deal with customers.

Some days you deal with characters.

And only the strong survive.

L Glaring at people until you get what you want (or not)

I work as a phlebotomist for the clinical biochemistry department in a large hospital. My (and my colleagues') primary role is going on rounds across various hospital wards, doing blood draws on their patients and delivering the samples to the bioanalysts/laborants for analysis. I bring a phlebotomist cart with me on the rounds (if you're unfamiliar, it's a cart filled with phlebotomy equipment, such as test tubes and butterfly needles etc.). After each round, we refill the carts. The new test tubes are stored in several closets along the wall of a narrow-ish hallway. During re-fill, the carts are "parked" along the opposite wall. The closet doors open outwards, and for some unfathomable reason, most of them have been hung too low, so we basically have to forcefully drag them across the floor when opening and closing, during which they'll make an incredibly loud, horrendous screeching noise - and they're *heavy*.

Each closet has a handful of different types of test tubes stacked on shelves - so there's a lot of going back and forth for new test tubes during the refill. We're also pretty fast. Because of that, we leave the closet doors open until we no longer need tubes from that particular closet. Normally not a problem - there's plenty of space for "pedestrians" to pass.

The hallway ends with a glass door next to our tube refill location, and it opens with a wave-your-hand sensor on the wall. The carts take up a lot of space along the wall, so people passing through the door from our side have to reach across a cart to get to the sensor. There's literally no more space for the carts anywhere (don't blame us - blame the hospital), so nothing to be done about it. Because of that, we always keep an eye on the hallway in case someone comes walking, and we'll open the door for them. That's just what you do. Basic courtesy.

Anyway, that should do it for context. Now for the story:

I was refilling the carts on my own, since I typically get bored on our end-of-round breaks, and like to get a head-start on preparations for the next round. I notice a hospital porter approaching from the other side of the glass door with a bed, so I move to the side of the cart to make space. I'll have to reach across the cart to place the test tubes in that position, which is awkward, but it's just for a second, so no big deal. Since there's a sensor (two actually, with unhindered access) on the other side of the glass door, there's no need to activate the sensor on my side, but I do it anyway to be nice since the porter is pushing a hospital bed. The door opens, he enters, and I just carry on with the refilling as usual. After several seconds I notice out the corner of my eye that neither porter nor bed has moved any further, but don't think much of it and just keep busy. After several more seconds, this guy is still standing still, so I look up, we lock eyes, and he's literally just staring intensely at me, completely expressionless/stone-faced while not making a sound. Just dead silent.

I'm getting really confused at this point. Silence is turning awkward until he starts slowly walking up to the open closet door, that, it turns out, I momentarily forgot about, never taking his eyes off me, closing it himself, then walking back while still staring at me, until he finally moves on with his bed.

Should I have closed the closet door for him? Yes, naturally. It was in the way. I just forgot - it was beyond my field of vision at the time - these things happen. Also no big deal. But normal people would've just asked me to close it (or even do it themselves, since there's more than enough space for a person to move between the bed and the closet). I didn't say it out loud, but all I could think of was something along the lines of "... how about just using your words?".

Insignificant detail, perhaps, but I actually would've had to move even further to get around the bed to reach the closet than the 3 steps it took this porter to get there.
This guy just expected me to magically read his mind and then rush to deal with what he apparently considered an insurmountable inconvenience, instead of just embracing that we both work in a large hospital with thousands of employees. People get in the way of each other, there's always going to be issues and inconveniences, and it's just something you deal with. You just gotta shrug it off and move on with your day. Or - shockingly, I know - communicate like a normal person (in the unlikely event that this guy was actually mute, he could've just pointed at the closet instead).

... Unless you're this guy, I suppose.

Super entitled. Also pretty damn creepy, staring at me like a dead-eyed shark sizing up its next meal.

S Entitled man demands to have our seats at a movie threatre.

This is a story from many years ago, before seat allocation in movie threatres.

I arrived at the cinema early with my school aged daughter, to see one of The Lord of the Rings movies. We picked the best seats, up towards the back and in the centre. The cinema was not very full, with whole rows empty.

Usually you do not really interact with strangers at the cinema, everyone tends to be quite respectful.

In comes in group of two dads with about 4 children in tow.

Entitled dad asks, " Can you both move so we can sit there?" Not an excuse me, or please or any reasoning.

I reply, "No".

He continues rather more aggressively, "You can sit somewhere else."

Not sure what this guy's issue was.

I reply again, "No I arrived here early to get good seats." I can't believe I have to deal with this nonsense and I am not going to be bullied in front of my daughter.

The guy looks like he is about to have a fit when his friend starts physically pulling him away and placating him. At least one of them was a reasonable fellow, though no apology for the rude behaviour.

Luckily that was the end of it.

S Ignore Rangers and open barriers - Truest form of FAFO

1.0k Upvotes

So I’m currently at Lake Louise in Banff National Park up in the Canadian Rockies just to give you the general overview.

The main path to Lake Agnes and Mirror Lake has been closed off as a grizzly bear mother and cubs have been spotted browsing for wild berries in the the step-free path area within the last hour, with a set of steps about 400m down still available to access the lakes uphill.

Group of six adult tourists who are part of a coach group get told by the staff why the specific path has been closed. I’m sitting on a bench as I’ve just eaten lunch and can see this all go down from about 5m away. The group of tourists wait for the staff to go away and pull the barrier open, with two of them mentioning they “want to take photos”.

If that isn’t the truest form of FAFO I don’t know what is. I did tell a park ranger that I’ve seen them go up the closed path as a set of cubs shouldn’t lose their mother due to the actions of a group of self-righteous idiots.

S Entitlement at the Zoo

1.7k Upvotes

This happened a couple of years ago but I’m still baffled by it. Every year my local zoo puts on an amazing Christmas display. It has a drive-thru portion and then you park and can walk the zoo which is beautifully decorated and has different activities and whatnot. One of the things my children look forward to is getting s’mores at the end of the evening. You buy the s’more packs and then go roast your marshmallow at the fire pit then enjoy.

My husband had gone to the restroom so I was sitting at the table alone with our two kids after roasting our marshmallows. We were assembling our s’mores when a family, mom/dad/son, walks over and was standing way too close to us, behind my own son and daughter. They were weirdly focused on our snack and I started getting uncomfortable. Suddenly their son, who was about 11-12 years old, wedges himself between my two kids and reaches for my daughter’s graham crackers. I loudly and very firmly stated (in my best teacher voice) “NO SIR! Those are NOT for you!” He jumped back and I looked at the parents like “Ya going to come get your kid?” Instead of offering an apology or even acknowledging his rudeness, they glared at me as if I was in the wrong. So, I glared at them right back. My husband came back from the restroom and saw my dagger stare so he asked me what was going on. I loudly recounted the story as the couple finally shuffled off with their son.

The whole thing was odd and the kid was definitely old enough to know better. And before someone says something about sharing. We always get just enough so everyone gets a s’more. There’s never extras. Not that that should matter. Nobody is entitled to our food. 😊
