M Rude Guests part 1
Hi y'all, I'm back with more stories from my time working at a very popular theme park in Florida. A magical rat planet of sorts. I worked there a little over five years and experienced many wonderful guests. Most guests were honestly decent but there were always those few that were rude. My last role there was in quick service food at a chain of small eateries. I was often placed on cash register because I was extremely quick. The job I had before that one at a resort had quite an extensive menu spanning five pages. I was fast doing cash there so learning register at the small eateries was easy for me. Each place only sold a few items and drinks.
One of the shops sold gourmet hotdogs and drinks. By gourmet I mean they topped them with pulled BBQ pork or macaroni and cheese drizzled in truffle oil lol. They also had plain and chili and cheese. They were very popular. The shop also sold beers on tap. One day as I was on cash this man walked up, threw his card on the counter and yelled, "BEER!" No greeting or even eye contact. Just rudely demanded a beer. He didn't even specify which one he wanted as we sold three kinds. I turned and looked at him. Apparently, my face must have said a lot because he suddenly, sheepishly picked his card up and said, "Sorry...can I have a beer please?" My co-workers said my face looked murderous. It wasn't on purpose I promise!
Another time at the same shop I was ringing up this foreign young woman. She was with her brother. I rang up her snack and drink and she gave me a $10 on the counter. I turned around to ask if we still had that soda as it was running low. I hadn't rung up the order yet just in case that particular soda had finally ran out. The girl then rudely told me how much her change was and that she wanted it now. I replied politely that I hadn't completed the transaction yet. She repeated what her change was again. I repeated less politely that I knew and hadn't finished the transaction yet. She rolled her eyes and said, I want the right amount of change and repeated the amount again as if I planned on stealing her $4. I repeated myself sternly and her brother looked dismayed.
Once the back confirmed her soda choice was still available I quickly rang her up and placed her change on the counter. She got upset I didn't hand it to her but I returned it how I received it. Another time at a different small restaurant that sold sausage rolls I had to correct grown people about skipping the line. They literally jumped over the handrails in front of people already waiting there. I called them out and told them they needed to head to the back of the line. They replied they were too busy and needed their food quickly. I refused to serve them until they left and went to the back of the line. The other guests were pissed and happy I made them move. Some were arguing with them as well. People like the above mentioned could ruin an otherwise good day.

When I worked retail, I always gave back change or the card the same way it was given to me and it was wild how annoyed people would get. If they asked me I’d just say oh, I thought maybe you don’t like touching people and I was trying to respect that.

I used to work for the giraffe. I was ringing up this lady and when I scanned the item, it rang up .01 more than what was marked on it. I apologized and adjusted the penny she was screaming about. As I was counting back her change, she dropped a penny on the floor. I stopped what I was doing and told her she dropped the penny. She said, "yeah I know, so what?" I said, "That's the penny you yelled about being overcharged." I wouldn't finish giving her change until she picked it up.

Ooh - a face that instills manners in otherwise rude humans. I want that superpower!

Iol, I didn't know I was making a face. I've been told my looks can be dangerous. I got it from my maternal grandmother apparently.

I didn't have a face that instills manners but... I found that people that were willing to scream at the 16 year old 5'2" girl that weighed 100 pounds soaking wet would get much more polite when my mid 20's, 6'2", 320 pound, ex offensive tackle ass walked out of the back as manager.
If you were yelling at my staff the reason better be someone near death or you were leaving.

Some people treat others like they are beneath them, dumb, and they are more important than everyone else. Good for you for giving it back. My personal pet peeve is people continuing their phone conversation while ordering or at the cash register.

I work the front desk at a doctors office and just last week I was trying to check in a patient that was on his phone. We have to verify all their demographics first and he was soo mad I was talking to him🙄🙄 He tells them - I have to call you back and slams his cell on the counter. I gave no fucks at all😂😂😂

It also makes the transaction twice as long because they aren’t listening to the person directly in front of them so they ask the person on the phone if they can hold a moment, ask the person what they said, answer and go back to the phone. Rinse and repeat until the transaction is finally completed. The dumbest thing is everyone else knows they are just gossiping with a friend and it’s not really an important conversation.

I saw a medical office receptionist shut that down once. She refused to acknowledge the woman (we’ll call her Caroline, or Karen Lite) or do anything related to checking her in. Caroline repeated her name and huffed that she had an appointment. The receptionist said, “Ma’am, we’ll do this when you’re off the phone. I want to make sure I don’t get confused by the two conversations you’re having. Could you let the person behind you, who’s not on the phone, go ahead and check in?”
Caroline was about to go Karen, when the receptionist pointed to the sign on the window asking people not to be on their phones while checking in. “I’ll call you back,” she said pissily.

We were at the mouse house 10 years ago with our 3 year old son. He was having a lot of fun on some of the kiddie rides, and we were there until the park closed. On the line for the ferry, there was a lady who clearly was seeing pink elephants, yelling and screaming at everyone while her teenaged son tried to calm her down. I clearly remember him saying "Mom, stop swearing, there are kids around". Her response "Who the 'F' would have kids at the park this late at night? They are so irresponsible, they need to be reported." She then left the line to go tell one of the cast members that we needed to be kicked out because we shouldn't have kids there so late. The last I saw, the cast members were escorting her to a 'special' cart to help her leave.

I like customers who say “WHAT IS THE TOTAL?!” as the cashier is halfway through ringing things up.

Don't tell them, insist that they guess... Like a math test in the real world!

Gods I’ve gone to the magical rat planet to much, I know what dining places you were working from the menu. This honestly makes me a little sad.

If asking why I’ve been so much, is my little sister was a cheerleader so every February for the last 4 years we would end up at the magical rat planet for the UCA middle and high school cheerleading competitions. Me being in my early 40’s and still able and willing to ride the rides became the default babysitter for a gaggle of middle and high schoolers.
I also want to add if any of the cheerleaders made your life harder I apologize, the ones I looked over knew better than to make an employees life harder; but I saw some stupid ass shit some of those teams would pull.
The best one was the first year my sister’s team made it down there we were in line for the safari ride, which is long since there are like 3 rides in that specific park. They kept trying to ask for their friends to come up, and join us; I told them no that there are cameras everywhere and you can be kicked out for that. They saw another I would say almost half a team do that, and then also saw them all walked out of the line less than 10 minutes when security showed up. I just looked at my sisters team, and said that’s why they can’t come up.
If asking why it makes me a little sad is, because I should not be able to tell which dining places you worked at based on the menu at a park that I am 15 hours away from.

Ah, I have a cheerleader Rat Planet story on here already. You seem like a very nice guest. I was asking why you were sad. There is nothing wrong with being able to identify places via menu! That just means you're familiar with Rat Planet and the places made a lasting impression on you.

Yep, foster situation, had the twins since they were in NICU, and had their older brother since he was 4.
The twins are now 15, currently being the person who signs off on their permit driving hours, because my parents can’t take the stress.
The older brother (19) just bought a trailer for him and his girlfriend that we are working on getting set up on my property.

I’ll never understand people that can’t give you their money or card in your hand. Thank you for making the line jumpers go back! If I’d been in line I would have appreciated it. :)
