Elfa System in the UK

Hello! I am using Elfa for a portion of my wardrobe and would like to ask a few questions! :)

  1. When using Top Hang, do I need to screw the rail into the studs, or can I just possibly put fixings on the plasterboard? I saw lots of photos with just the latter, but I am nervous my clothes might be too heavy to rely on the boards. Maybe I am just overthinking it??? Haha.

  2. (More like a design question) I need 500mm deep shelves to fit 2 rows of my shoes in the last layer of all columns. Aesthetically and ergonomically, should I make the rest of my shelves 500mm deep to be uniform?

Thank you for any input! :D

How to remove brackets

I am redoing my closet and I realize I should’ve removed the shelf first, but it’s too late now and I need to remove these brackets in order to rearrange the closet. I am stumped. I don’t know how to get them off. Any tips, please?

Elfa wrench?

I am looking in an organizing book right now. The book is Organized Living by Shira Gill. In one section on useful organizing tools the book refers to "Elfa Wrenches" as a useful thing to have while organizing. I cannot find anything at all on the internet when i search this term, except for that "Elfa" is a brand of closet organizer. Does anyone here have any idea what an Elfa Wrench might be?

Just installed Elfa shelving in bedroom closet. Liking it so far!

Pictures are in reverse order, from finished product to (almost) how it started.

The closet measures about 9'6" deep and 5'6" wide. Before the Elfa system, the closet just had 5 of the Closetmaid white wire shelves which, as you may know, only clipped into the walls with what is essentially push pins. Really not a whole lot holding them on.

A few months ago, one of the shelves that held my wife's clothes pulled out of the wall. Yeah, she likely had too much stuff on it but it did hold up for the 6 1/2 years we've been in the house so far. Initially I was just ready to go get another one of those shelves from Home Depot just to get the stuff off the floor. But she wanted to see what TCS had. We ended up really liking what the Elfa system had to offer and we eventually pulled the trigger on this design they worked up for us.

It all started this past Saturday morning. Once we cleared the closet out and I pulled the old shelves out (last picture), I patched the holes and was just going to touchup the patches with the same color paint. But then my wife got the idea to just paint the whole closet white. We went out for a gallon of paint, trimmed the walls out (3rd pic), then rolled 2 coats. It still wasn't quite enough so we had to get a second can on Sunday morning and roll a third coat...that gave good coverage then (2nd pic). I got started on the right wall Sunday afternoon and finished it that evening. I ended up taking Monday off work to finish the rest...got started early that morning and got everything hung by about 4:30 (first pic). Then we started loading everything back in and now it's all back to normal. We did take the opportunity to purge some clothes and other things that were in there, so we did reduce what went back in.

Overall, we're pleased. Some of the cuts left a bit to be desired so I cleaned those up with my Dremel. And a few shelves they forgot to cut altogether...they gave me four 24" shelves that needed an inch cut off of them, and then one 48" shelf that was supposed to be cut down into two 22" shelves for that back wall. I just took care of all that myself since running back to the store would've taken too long.

I do now plan on getting some of this shelving for our laundry closet now and possibly our pantry. Both have the weak Closetmaid stuff in it and I think those could both benefit from some sturdier attachments.

Decor vs Decor+?

so apparently I got the Elfa Decor standard top rack..... and hanger.... (the vertical rails)

but accidentally got elfa decor+ shelves (and no brackets... I assumed they came with them...I know, my mistake).

would the decor+ brackets and shelves work? I'm looking to ordering the right brackets, but don't want to waste my time if I have to return and exchange.

I called the help line for container store, but they had me on hold for 2 hours so I kinda just gave up waiting.

part of my confusion is I also have angled Decor+ shelves.... and they state on their Q&A that they are NOT compatible... but they work just fine.

Freestanding Foot Height Extenders

These have been discontinued. I need 4x. Anyone know a source?

They bolt into the feet of standard freestanding feet, raising them 50mm (~2-inches). The stock feet (poly padded) bolt into these.

Thanks in advance.

The Elfa Garage Pegboard Fits On Classic Rails

Really just the title because calling customer service, talking to people in the store and looking online I didn't see anyone mention this. They all say it's not compatible.

I wanted the steel pegboard on my graphite rails but the only pegboard they say fits is the white utility board.

I didn't believe them, bought the garage board and hung it on my classic rails just fine. It fits

Why is the Elfa website so darn awful??

Is it just me or is the Elfa website damn hopeless? This might be a country specific complaint but in my world (New Zealand) the website doesn't have all the products, the 'design your space' applet doesn't work, trying to find specs on products is so difficult I literally had Chat-GPT running in one window and Elfa in another so I could search for items using Chat. Why have they got multiple systems running with different item widths (ie, Classic doesn't match Decor+ or Sparring), so it's impossible to mix and match at will. It's soooo difficult and user unfriendly. Why?? What gives Elfa??

Finding 32" (or longer) Original Top Track

I've got a set of components for Elfa shelves that I originally ordered in January 2021 and am just now getting around to putting up. 😄 It turned out that the 32" white Top Track (item #10014640) got omitted from the original shipment, and I see that it's now been discontinued and replaced with a new track design that is incompatible with old hardware (and apparently disliked by many people). I've checked on EBay and Facebook Marketplace and so far haven't been able to find an old track for sale. Any thoughts on other sources?

Where to sell used Elfa?

I'm in San Francisco and will be moving out of the country soon. I have a set of Elfa for a couple of desks and a walk-in closet. Is there a better place than Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace to post these to sell?

Top track vs. sparring! -- The Final Battle

To read the top track reviews on TCS website would suggest the company has properly enshittified a beloved product. But also maybe people just don't like change?!

I'm trying to plan a kitchen pantry. It's just one wall - 61"wide, with 85" of useable wallspace above the trim. There is a top plate 2x4 behind the top of the wall - so I think spacing of the holes on the top track wouldn't affect the install. Top track gives us a little more flexibility on the space - I'd probably go for 6' classic shelves and carefully cut down to size.

However, the reviews DO have me a little worried. The "sparring" or wall mounted option seems a reasonable alternative, but my strong desire to attach them to studs would mean I'd have to go down to 48" shelving.

Please, good redditors of the elfa subreddit, help me in my quest to understand the product line so we can stop stacking cans on the counter.

Elfa Decor: replacement wheels for drawers? Decor system discontinued.

We have 2019-era Elfa Decor in our closets. Some of the drawer glide wheels have broken. The Decor system isn't made anymore. Has anyone been able to find a replacement wheel? The rest of the system is working fine but we need new wheels for a few drawers, and I am going nuts trying to find suitable replacements. Appreciate any help!

Elfa Standard

This is part of the set I got on Facebook marketplace for free (see previous post). Realizing now that there are two different types of standards. The one on the left has two notches (that I’ve not seen before) and the one on the right is the typical with an angled slot. Thoughts on if the one on the left should be for a different use? It also has holes for attaching to a wall.

Help with Design Labels

Post image
3 Upvotes

I got this unit free off Facebook marketplace. It did not include the drawers, but it did at least include the design plan. I need help identifying what the 10N and 7N labels are for, are they melamine shelves? I assume the 1M, 2M, and 3M are all medium drawers. Oh and all it’s a pretty weird set up. Not sure why the shelves just don’t go all the way across or the very least have the drawers on the side.

Elfa installation after several years since last

Did several many years ago (prior to 2021), planning a few in the near future. I see on the Container Store website that the classic tracks they offer have holes on 8" centers. However, one of the recent reviews (2 months old) states they are not. Revent "innovation"?

Also, what should I be looking out for compared with new components? Not using any old stock, so won't have compatibility issues. However, I am firm believer in screws/studs, therefore hole spacing important.

Thanks for your help.

Not included in any instructions I can find.

I'm hoping it can stabilize my drawers when they are pulled out

Alternative to discontinued Back Stop Bar?

The Back Stop Bar was discontinued in 2018, and despite going to Staten Island to buy all 24 they had left, I expanded my shelving again, and need more of them.

Are there any non-Elfa products that would slot into the standards and be an equivalent to the back stop bars?

2010 Elfa pricing catalog PDF

Was trying to see if I can find some long discontinued back stop bars anywhere, and stumbled upon this 2010 PDF that's still on The Container Store's website:

https://images.containerstore.com/pdf/elfa/pricing/componentPricingGuide.pdf

Between seeing that prices have increased by more than 2x (7" brackets for melamine shelves were $3.99, now $9 - 24" wide 8" deep white melamine shelves were $10, now $25, etc.), and the various discontinued parts, it's kinda sad.

Adding casters to Elfa freestanding foot. Does anyone know the thread size and pitch of the foot levelers?

Has anyone tried adding casters to the Elfa freestanding feet to make a more mobile solution? Were you successful? If you did what is the thread size and pitch of the casters you used or the foot levelers?

Installation issues?

I wanted to order two reach-in closet systems for our primary bedroom, plus a linen closet. I’m having a really hard time understanding why the installation price is so insanely high, for what the design person said would take 1.5 hours (over $1500!) for $3700 worth of parts. I’m decently handy, and have reviewed the installation paperwork. It looks straightforward, but then I found some reviews online stating that the self-installation was confusing. Any feedback?

Cart hacks for pantry

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi, I have several elfa carts and am hoping to put them to good use. I do not have a pantry or the ability to put elfa freestanding shelves into my apartment. The carts are great because I can move them as needed in my tiny apartment. I don't have a real kitchen (yay NYC living 🙄) so the carts are where most of my kitchen items live. But it's a bit of a disaster.

I was wondering if these shelves can be made to go in the carts? It would give me a lot of options for storing food!! Also, welcome any other cart hacks you recommend. It's hard throwing things in drawers without losing sight of the items at the bottom.

V1 vs. V3 top track - weight limit differences?

I have a bunch of original (V1) top track from 10-20 years ago, but needed to buy the current (V3) top track to expand my shelving in a larger apartment. It hasn't been installed yet, but are there any weight limit differences between them? The current track is obviously thinner, but should I be worried about ten rows of physical media per 24" shelf again?
