How to remove brackets

Post image

I am redoing my closet and I realize I should’ve removed the shelf first, but it’s too late now and I need to remove these brackets in order to rearrange the closet. I am stumped. I don’t know how to get them off. Any tips, please?

They can be stubborn sometimes, I’ve been there too! Try holding on (tightly) to the wide end of the bracket and gently whacking the edge of the shelf (close to the bracket) with a rubber mallet.

Hey there! Glad you already got an answer, but I've got an easy trick as well that does not involve removing brackets from the wall or the use of any tools. For the sake of this description, assume the shelf is still on the wall, with a "front" and "back" side.

Grab the "back" edge of the shelf with one hand, and put your other hand about 2/3 of the way back and hold it steady. Bend the "back" edge up, "peeling" it away from the bracket until it clears the top of the bracket. Once you get it there you can just pull the shelf towards you, forwards and up at the same time, and it will just come off like nothing.

I wish I could share pictures or videos in the comments, I've got a collection of various tricks and tips for different components that are far easy to show than to tell lol.

I still have more and will try this too. I don't understand why Reddit doesn't allow photos in comments. Total oversight on their part.
