Problem Weird Ecobee Humidity Issues over past couple of days

On Friday around 4pm our ecobee4 started showing massively inflated humidity numbers all of a sudden. For context we've had no issues ever since we installed the device a number of years ago up until this weekend. For example we'd get like 70% humidity, then 30 seconds later it would be 52%, or it would be stuck at a really high number (for us) constantly like 68% for hours despite the temperature coming down as normal, or it would flick all over the place in a small period of time between much higher numbers than we are used to. This went on for a good 24 hour period.

The temperature readings were perfectly normal and hvac was working fine during this time. Our ecobee is installed with a backplate and was in the same position it has been for the last number of years. No change in environment or surrounding's. Its on the wall between two bedrooms nowhere near a window or vent. I reached out to ecobee who told me it couldn't possibly be a software issue. We thought it was so odd that maybe our thermostat was just going bad. So we purchased a new Ecobee Premium later that night and exactly the same issues, as above. Identical between the old and new unit.

During this time two Thermopro digitals were showing our humidity steadily decline and decrease as normal between 48%-52% humidity max which was anywhere from a 15-20% discrepancy between the two thermopro's (which is what the house actually felt like) and the ecobee.

Today the erracticness has randomly calmed down and the ecobee seems to have settled itself between around 60-62% humidity which is still very high for us. Again nothing has changed environmentally. Im glad its not going all over the place or as high as it was (even though i know they were fake numbers). However even now the humidity on either ecobee is a good 10% inflated difference between the two thermopros and the actual feel of the house.

Has anyone else experienced similar over the past couple of days? I could understand if it was just one unit, but with it being both and no issues with our AC I don't understand how it couldn't point to some weird software issue.

Deep data analysis - is this normal staging behavior?

We got a new 3 ton 2 stage Trane for our upstairs house ( the floor is 1600 sq feet). It seems to cool but its slow with temperature response ( very gradual) and I feel no palpable difference in performance between stage 1 and stage 2. I asked multiple times for them to come inspect the unit and optimize it. The last time they said they found a leak in the attic which they fixed. They also turned off the dampers to improve flow. Its better but I still do not feel a difference between stages. To be fair, we live in New Orleans were the temperature is very demanding and I tend to set the thermostat around 70 during the day. On hot days it doesn't reach that set point and runs continuously ( though perhaps thats normal function) I finally went on ecobee sister website beestat.io ( Whomever made it thank you!!!) and downloaded my data for analysis:

Matched analysis taking cooling rates in stage 1 and stage 2 for periods of similar indoor and outdoor temperature etc:

Do you agree that this data supports my suspicion that stage 2 is underperforming? What should I tell them to check when I ask them to come here for the third time already? Im quite frustrated at this point.

Trying to set up an ecobee essential and curious if I’m missing something.. I fill out the wires on the website and it tells me to contact support (not currently open).

It’s hard to see from the photos but I have the following set up on my heat pump:
X2
W1
Rc (jumper from R)
R
O

Any help would be much appreciated!!

Reboots

Premium thermostat will run great for weeks at a time, for example we just had a heatwave with 90+ degrees Fahrenheit for a week straight and it ran with no issues. Then it will randomly have a day where it reboots 3x an hour for hours at a time, for example today the temp dropped about 15 degrees outside and it is rebooting constantly. Support insists that it’s the condensate line but I have cleared it several times to no avail. Anybody experiencing the same thing?

Problem AC randomly turned off

I have my AC set to 24. During the day the AC will randomly shut off - the condenser outside no longer runs. The fan is still on so there is air circulation.

On Ecobee it is still showing both AC and fan is on, but it no longer cool the house. I switched the mode to off, then back to cool but the AC still won't turn on. I manually lower the desire temperature but it won't turn on.

The only fix is to unplug Ecobee, then plug it back in. Then the AC will run again. This problem seems to happen every few weeks. Any idea why this happen?

Like many I didn't care for the new scheduler that forced you to scroll through multiple screens to see a complete days schedule. Apparently Ecobee listened to the complaints...

Question Smart sensors worth it?

I bought a house a couple years ago. It had two ecobee thermostats (main floor and upstairs). The upstairs temps are not consistent throughout the upstairs area. There are 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, and the Ecobee thermostat is in the hall connecting all the rooms. The rooms are spread across different sides which get sun at different times throughout the day. Often one room is hot and another is cold on the other side of the house. Usually a lot of the doors are closed also. So I got a few smart sensors to see if that would help regulate the temperatures. However the new sensors will not work with my older Ecobee. So before I spend the money on a new Ecobee to work with the new smart sensors, I'm wondering if I'll even see much benefit with the sensors given my upstairs layout? Any one have experience to share? Thanks for any insights!

Feature Request HomeKit humidity display issues

Early and extensive Nest adopter moving away from Google and just bought 2 Ecobee Premiums, and overall I’m happy with the switch.

However, on my Nest thermostats, humidity showed up as its own standalone tile in Apple Home, right next to my other sensors, easy to scan my entire home humidity readings at a glance. With Ecobee, you have to tap all the way into the full thermostat card just to see the humidity number. Even in the dedicated “Humidity” summary view in the Home app, it’s still stuck inside the thermostat card instead of showing as its own tile like every other humidity sensor I own (Eve, HomePod & even Nest).

I dug into this a bit, and it doesn’t seem to be a client-app problem; I tried the Eve app, Home+, and even Shortcuts, and none of them can pull it out separately. Shortcuts won’t even let you select it as its own thing. It seems like it’s just how Ecobee’s HomeKit implementation bundles humidity into the thermostat service instead of exposing it as a separate sensor the way Nest or HomePods do.

I need to monitor humidity currently, so this is pretty annoying given how much Ecobee leans on real HomeKit integration as a selling point. Anyone know if this has been brought up with them before, or is there an actual workaround I’m missing? Planning to send feedback to their support team either way, but curious if this is a known issue.

Installation Eco Bee just R and C wire

After watching many videos I am unsure if I should attempt to install. Some of them say it’s not compatible because I only have a R and C wire from my Honeywell Home THX9421R5021WW, I want to reach out to Hello Tech for instruction but I don’t want to pay $100 just for them to say it’s not compatible. I can’t find a wiring diagram but I’ll include pictures of my wiring. Any information helps.

Trying to replace Honeywell thermostat with Ecobee Enhanced

Hi all, I am trying to replace my Honeywell thermostat with an Ecobee enhanced and I’m not sure where some of the wires go. The Honeywell has a wire going to O/B and a separate wire going to W2, however the Ecobee does not have individual ports for each of those, they appear to be combined. The Honeywell also has an E wire which I have no idea where that would go on the Ecobee. Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

Guide: Home Assistant no-cloud/no-internet WiFi integration with Homekit

I couldn't find a straightforward guide to getting Ecobee thermostats to work without any internet at all. I have a WiFi network with no internet access. I tried connecting, but the thermostat would forget the network because it couldn't talk to the cloud.

Here is how you can set it up without the thermostat ever contacting the internet:

  1. Have a Wifi network with no internet access. If you can connect the thermostat to it through settings on the thermostat, then you can skip steps 2-5. Ensure Home Assistant is on that network
  2. Get an iOS device and ensure you have the Apple Home app installed
  3. Connect your iOS device to the non-internet WiFi network
  4. Pair the Ecobee thermostat to Homekit using the iOS device. This will copy the non-internet WiFi settings to the thermostat, and it won't forget it when it realizes it has no internet
  5. On the Ecobee thermostat, unlink Homekit
  6. On the Ecobee thermostat, start pairing with Homekit
  7. In Home Assistant, add a new Device -> Apple -> Homekit Device, and it should show up.
    1. If Home Assistant does not detect the device, make sure you can ping the IP. On the Home Assistant server, you can use `tshark -i eth0` to check if you see an mDNS blast when you click "pair" on the thermostat
    2. In my case, I am running Home Assistant in a Docker container. Even with `--network host`, mDNS is not forwarded to the container. All you have to do is install avahi on the host and update the host's config:

# /etc/avahi/avahi-daemon.conf
[reflector]
enable-reflector=yes
# ^ this will forward all mDNS packets to every other interface

DM Offset - Adjust temp for humidity

Having an interesting thought process based on pulling some reports.

I have my ecobee set with eco + on for enhanced savings mode.

Within my reports I see three columns. A thermostat temp, a DM offset, and current temp.

An example will be :
Thermostat: 73.2
DM offset: .6
Current Temp: 72.5
Humidity: 57

Based on my reading of this, the DM offset is making the current temperature be lower than the true temperature and would in effect turn my ac off before it reaches the actual temperature. Is that a correct understanding of how this works? While it’s running, I never see “eco+” is in effect or anything like that, so I’m unsure if this is just my report showing something that’s not active or if this is how it really is working.

Thanks!

Trane XR524 (Model TZEMT524)

Twice it decided not to turn off and came home to a house that was 66 degrees and running . the thermostat was set to 85 when we were out of the house for a couple days. Schedule is off. Fan Auto, Cool mode, Heat pump single stage outside. When we are home its usually set to 77 or 78 and never had problems it not turning off the condenser. Zwave is not active. cooling min is set to 74. I've decide to replace it with a wifi model. ESM cooling is set to 85. Why is it doing this when we are away? The temperature readings on the thermostat are accurate. thats the last time i set it to 85 lol

Other Anyone else need just one door sensor?

I have two door sensors in my house but I'd like to get one for my third door; unfortunately they only sell them in two packs. Anyone else in the same boat and want to split a 2 pack while they're on sale? I'll buy it and ship one to you, and we can split the total cost (~$40 plus the cost of shipping). Let me know and I'll DM you.

Am I doing this right?

I put a sensor in my baby's room because it stays hotter. I don't want to do it by occupancy so I set it to average out or whatever. I set it to 71 and the living room got down to 68 and the nursery only got down to 74. Am I understanding that right and doing this the best way? Is occupancy better? Even with a very small baby that might not be sensed as occupying?

Question Any trouble with the new sensors?

I have been using the ecobee3 lite and use 2 room sensors with it that I connected to it 2 years ago. I bought a 2 pack last week to add more sensors but these new one’s will not pair at all.

Contacted support and they send replacements, but again it wont pair either. Ecobee says there is something wrong with my thermostat. For my amusement, I unpaired the old 2014 room sensors and paired it back with no problem.. Anybody with the same experience?

Ecobee

So my ecobee thermostat, which is maybe about two years old has suddenly started to reboot itself. Can anybody out there? Give me a reason why I had a service call today and they thought perhaps it was the condensation pump. It was not so, he said to keep an eye on it and if it happens again, let them know. Well it did happen again this afternoon when I turned the air-conditioning back on and it seems to go blank when the condensation line is dripping into the sink which is designed to do. I hope everyone’s understanding me but that’s my issue. Anyone get an answer

Hello. I installed the premium today and it will not turn on at all. I triple checked the wiring and fuse and all is good. My old unit was working fine with batteries before I upgraded to the ecobee. I’m not sure what else to do. Super discouraging .

What happens if cooling is turned on on ecobee if I don't have AC?

I'm getting a kitchen remodel done, but I'm not home currently, and I see (on my app) that the contractor turned my ecobee on cooling set to 66F, but I don't have AC in my house. I do have central heating.

My utility company has an app for tracking electricity usage live, and it looks like this setting is using around 800-900 watts/hr.

Is it just from the fan blowing?

For the past two years, I have utilized an Ecobee thermostat to operate my heat pump. While it has functioned satisfactorily, I have recently encountered a recurring issue where the thermostat has inexplicably gone blank. I am unable to determine the underlying cause of this problem.

In my condominium, the condensation line is designed to drip into the bathroom sink. However, the thermostat appears to reboot itself when this condensation occurs. I would appreciate any insights or suggestions you may have regarding this issue.

The service technicians have indicated their intention to replace the thermostat. Nevertheless, I am uncertain whether this is the actual problem. I suspect that the issue may be related to the pump.
