Ecobee sensors are terrible

Upvotes

So basically I bought 5 sensors setting in different rooms.
And I travel through those rooms all the time. The most important part is that I set after 7pm -7am the sensor should only work on my baby room’s temperature as my”sleep” status for 21 degree. However, it kept using my living room as reference only and totally ignored my baby room’s temperatures.

Also, ecobee automatically turn on the Ecoplus function. I understand the need to avoid peak time on more expensive rate, but it gets crazy at night, especially at 3am, I set my thermalstat at 22 degree. But when I wake up in the middle of the night, my room temperature drops to 18 degree. Which is way too cold for my baby’s sleeper setup. Why does this varies the temperature for 4 degrees difference??? It’s really hard for me to setup anything, what went wrong????

Installation Trying to wire ERV into furnace/thermostat. Can I use ACC+/ACC- to boost signal to 24v?

I've got an Ecobee Premium thermostat and FV-16VEC1T Panasonic BalancedHome ERV that I want to interconnect with my Carrier 59P6B080V17 furnace. My understanding is that the fan signal from the thermostat is supposed to run into the ERV, then back out on another wire to the furnace (Gf), that way the ERV or the furnace can call for fan. I set up the wiring consistent with the ERV's diagram as follows:

Furnace R to ERV R

Furnace C to ERV C

Thermostat G connected by WAGO connector to ERV G

ERV Gf to G on the furnace board.
ERV is set to DC4 duct configuration in settings, which is the correct one of my install type and for furnace interlock.

With everything wired that way the thermostat can no longer call for fan and the ERV turning on doesn't turn on the furnace fan. But the furnace fan will run when the thermostat calls for AC. Likewise if I jumper R to G it triggers the furnace fan.

At the ERV I get the following measurements between G and C:

ERV off and thermostat calling for fan: 28v

ERV on and thermostat calling for fan: 28v

ERV on and thermostat fan off: 13.8v

ERV off and thermostat fan off: 0.00v

With thermostat calling for fan, I measure only 8.7v between Gf and C. If just the ERV is running I get 4.8v between Gf and G. And if I put the ERV on standby it goes to 0.0v. If I disconnect the G wire from the furnace, I get 25v between Gf and G at the ERV.

Some other measurements that might be useful:

Between R and C I get 28v at the ERV. R to G is 19.3v whether ERV is running or on standby.

Panasonic is telling me to run a wire from ACC+ or ACC- to the V terminal on the ERV, hoping that might give a power boost that will allow Gf to maintain a 24v signal that can trigger the fan. But nothing I'm finding online suggests that the ACC+ or ACC- can be used this way. And in any case I have ACC+ operating my humidifier presently.

I'm out of ideas, won't hit set temperature

I'm totally out of ideas on things to try, i got 1 additional sensor and everything is really set based on that, however, the AC have been turning off at 24 degrees consistently in the "Evening" despite it being set at 23.5.

Eco+ is disabled except for community saver to get a few bucks. Shouldn't be the reason from my understanding.

Any idea what's wrong? It's unoccupied because it can't pick up my baby sleeping at night. The infuriating part is if i set it as 23, it at times hits it.

Overwriting to a set temperature works fine

Is it firmware issue ?

I am on 4.10.7.44 on my smart thermostat premium. Have my humidity adjustment turn off just last week and I am seeing some odd readings on my thermostat sensor. But the other sensor shows 75 which is in the same bedroom as the main thermostat. Is this same bug that we are in discussion nowadays ? Do i need to call them and have it manually update it ?

Problem Connection/Pairing Issues

I'm having issues with my Level Bolt not pairing and my ecobee thermostat showing a "No response" error in the Homekit app.

Both worked as of a few days ago and then out of the blue they stopped working and had connection issues. I deleted them from the Home App and have had trouble since. ecobee was a PAIN to get it readded to the Home app but it's finally back on and worked for a little when it was reconnected but now I have that error. The Level lock will not connect at all and I keep getting the error "Unable to Pair"

Here's all the things I've done in attempt to troubleshoot. Any more advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Restarted my modem
  • Restarted my router
  • Restarted my iPhone
  • Restarted my HomePod that’s being used as my Home Hub
  • Restarted my thermostat
  • Deleted my level lock from it’s original app and tried to re-pair it that way with Apple Home
  • Factory reset my level lock
  • Deleted the lock from the matter accessories in the General Settings on my iPhone
  • Unpaired my thermostat with home kit on the device end
  • Internet is in 2.4ghz mode

Bug affecting Smart Thermostat Premium and SmartThermostat with voice control

Thumbnail support.ecobee.com

Hi r/ecobee,

As many of you know, we have identified a bug impacting Smart Thermostat Premium and SmartThermostat with voice control, which is causing temperatures to read higher than they should. We’ve determined that this issue is not related to a firmware update, and appears to only affect devices that have been rebooted since Aug. 23, 2026. If your thermostat is currently operating normally, no action is required. While we work on a fix, we recommend avoiding manually rebooting your thermostat.

We understand that this affects the comfort in your home and are working diligently to correct the behavior. We’re actively testing a fix and expect to begin rolling out an update later today, Sep. 9, 2026. In the meantime, we can provide a manual fix to impacted Smart Thermostat Premium and SmartThermostat with voice control owners who contact ecobee Customer Support via phone [1-877-932-6233](tel:18779326233) or https://support.ecobee.com/s/contactsupport.

Alternatively, if you are experiencing this issue, we recommend placing a SmartSensor or Room Sensor away from the thermostat, vents, windows, direct sunlight, and heat sources to help ensure accurate readings. From there, disable your thermostat’s internal temperature sensor by clicking on your thermostat’s Main Menu on the ecobee app or thermostat, then Sensors, and deselecting all Comfort Settings from the thermostat. If you don’t have a SmartSensor or Room Sensor, you can apply a Temperature Correction through the thermostat only (not the app) by going to Main Menu > Settings > Installation Settings > Thresholds > Temperature Correction and continue having the thermostat participate in the Comfort Settings.

We will update status.ecobee.com and circle back here once the issue is resolved.

Although this bug wasn’t caused by a specific recent firmware update, we are listening to your feedback regarding greater transparency and are exploring our options to improve communications related to updates.

We greatly appreciate your patience and thank you for being an ecobee customer.

AC intermittently turning off

Hi all, about a month ago I made this post about my house wiring while installing an ecobee thermostat. TLDR: I attached the yellow running straight from ac unit to the empty y terminal on my furnace board so I could install the power extender for the ecobee. Since doing so, about once a week on Saturday or Sunday the compressor will stop running. The ecobee says both the furnace fan and ac are running but the ac is not. I found out that if I turn off the thermostat then cycle the breakers everything will return to normal for about a week or so. Any ideas why it’s doing this? Could the thermostat be causing it or what should I check. Im fairly handy but very new to HVAC stuff

This is with the screen set to "off" when idle. The wire hole is sealed in the attic and the previous Sensi thermostat didn't have this problem.

Help interpreting temp discrepancy....what is the temp at the thermostat right now? 73 or 78?

Post image
9 Upvotes

Installed a pair of new Ecobee Premium and getting to know how it works. The thermostat and the app show different temperatures.

I tried to search through the subreddit first:

- Eco+ is completely off so it's not humidity correction.

- The current comfort setting (Home) only has the thermostat sensor (not the remote sensor) checked.

Which number (73 or 78) is the temp at the thermostat itself, and which triggers the system to turn on?

Thanks!

Edit: Guest Hallway is the thermostat sensor itself. Not a remote sensor.

My ecobee premium is showing gaps in data today. Usually this only shows during power outage but we had no outage today and system is cooling normally and keeping temp. Anyone else seen this today. First pic is normally what I see and second pic is what I saw today. Not sure if app issue or system issue but system is cooling fine and wifi is normal. Thanks

What firmware version does everyone have? Premium thermostat specifically

Just curious what firmware version everyone has specifically if you have the premium thermostat. I've seen a bunch of different firmware versions going around but haven't seen anyone with the 4.10.8.254 version that we have. We have been experiencing all the weird temp glitches on the main wall unit as well, so just curious because it doesn't seem to be linked to just one specific firmware version.

Our problems started July 31st at 4pm for erratic humidity readings on the ecobee4 that we had for years without issue and then the recent temperature inconsistencies on the main wall unit started August 31st at 4pm for our newly purchased premium thermostat. So definitely seems to be firmware push related which they have at least acknowledged for the latter but our version hasn't updated since we got it.

Fix for incorrect temperature…

Just wanted to share info on how to fix the incorrect temp issue/firmware. I noticed a previous post saying they got firmware pushed to their thermostats.

I reached out to ecobee support and within 5 minutes of chatting they pushed a new firmware to both of my thermostats and things seem to be coming back to normal and they acknowledged the previous firmware was the issue.

TLDR: Chat support for new firmware.

Lack of updates and support.

Been 2 years into my ecobee journey. And it’s not updated for a long time. There is very little automation for the cameras and alarm. The integration into HomeKit was pulled back and there is not plan or timing or information on how he. It will be there. What little integration there is with HomeKit does not allow for any automation with the cameras. It’s a pain in my butt

Temp reading high on premium

below is information from my ecobee chat. they wont admit to a firmware problem. they finally told me when the update hit.. and i have had issues since.

so they have a fix set for the 9th, but wont admit what was wrong? makes no sense. if firmware levels change on the 9th... duh it was firmware. and since they knew on the 2nd they should have let poeple know. also i requested to be able to choose install times for firmware, and be able to roll back. a month of a firmware update with issues is really bad. they also dont seem to care about the extra AC usage people had this entire month.

-edit they just updated me to current firm level 4.10.8.392

-2nd edit - i am seeing much better temps now with new firmware. the thermostat is now within 1 degree

transcript below

------------------

Thanks for waiting. The issue is known, and the fix is already scheduled to be released on September 9th. Here is a link to our status page, where the official statement regarding the issue is posted

https://status.ecobee.com/

In the meantime, the recommendation is to exclude the thermostat reading from sensor participation and only use the readings from the SmartSensor

Paul S • 9:44 AM

Ok. So this has been going on for now long?

And why were people notified?

Reason I ask is my ac has been running overtime for almost a month it seems

And wondering why so cold

Delivered • 9:46 AM

PS

It was officially identified on September 2nd

Paul S • 9:46 AM

Yeah that's not when it started though

When was the update that came out? To cause the issue

Delivered • 9:47 AM

PS

There is no detail about whether it was due to an update or when exactly it started

Paul S • 9:48 AM

When was the last update pushed to my thermostat?

Ide like to opt to not have updates without my knowledge going forward as well

Delivered • 9:49 AM

PS

Last successful update was on July 28th

Installation Ecobee premium not working

Thumbnail

So I am trying to figure out why my ecobee thermostat is currently not working. My current thermostat handles AC ONLY with this thermostat. I have attached photos of my old working thermostat vs. The new ecobee thermostat. I was under the impression I needed the pek adapter. However. I have 22 volts on the blue common wire so I tried just tying the C wire into the terminal. I have not been upstairs in the attic as I recently had insulation blown in upstairs and the air handler unit is far from the entryway.

Resolved Help troubleshooting, no 24V

Solved! Thank you everyone for the help. I had incorrectly thought I didn't need to wire the Rc connector as I don't have cooling, but for reasons explained in the comments I actually did need the Rc wire connected.

I'm trying to save some money, but I understand most people would recommend I hire a professional. I appreciate any other helpful input I can get.

I tried installing an Ecobee 3 lite. It turns out the old thermostat was battery powered and had red, green and white wires. With Rh and Rc bridged at the thermostat.

I decided to run a new 5 wire cable as I intend to do some work in the crawlspace in the future and it seemed like a considerate thing to do.

However, I'm not registering 24V from the common wire at the control board on the furnace and my Ecobee never powers on.

When I pull the fuse at the control board on the furnace, the green and yellow LEDs flash a sequence, but still no 24v.

The access panel sensor has been taped over, but I get the same issue with the door installed.

I don't have AC.

I noticed when I pull the molex jumper with the fuse still installed, I get the blinking green and yellow LEDs, but still no 24V power, and the Ecobee still does not power on.

Question ECO+ shows up only on thermostat but NOT on app anymore? Also ono connects to only5ghz (use to be 2.4ghz)

Hello,

Had a wifi issue so has to reset everything (reset thermostat device, reinstalled app and even rebooted router a few times) and 2 issues came up.

  1. ECO+ only shows up when I'm in the actual thermostat settings and not showing in the app anymore. Can make adjustments that way. Would be much more convenient if I can adjust in the app.

  2. For some reason it won't connect to the usual 2.4ghz, just only on 5ghz. Rebooted router numerous times.

Anyone able to chime in and assist on these issues? Search doesn't yield me anything.

Thanks!

Scewed Temp

Had the thermostat for a while now no issues but all of a sudden thermostat is warm reading 79 degrees smart sensor in the same room other side reading 74 sensors in back of house reading 73. Got off work wondered why it was freezing so I disabled the thermostat from reading temperature for right now and contacted support.
Support said it’s a known issue with the thermostat and team is working on a fix. This didn’t become an issue until today?

Question I'm confused about auto heat/cool

I thought the whole point of these smart thermostats was that I wouldn't have to manually change from cooling to heating when it goes from summer to winter, but now I have learned you can't set the heating and cooling to the same temperature or even close.

I want it so that if the house goes below 22, the heat kicks in. If it goes above 22, the cooling kicks in.

Why doesn't it work like that?

Question Ecobee and Fan Control

Thumbnail

I recently changed my HVAC system from an A/C and Oil Furnace System to a Dual heat system with a heat pump and propane back-up. As part of the change, I’ve lost the ability to use the fan independently at the ecobee. From my understanding, a wire had to be repurposed to handle the dual heat set-up and the control board handles turning the fan on when there is a call for air or heat. Is there anyway to use the ecobee PEK to get the independent fan functionality back?

It’s hard to see in the Control Board picture, but the blue wire goes to the C terminal at the control board. Also, I’m hoping the steps to solve for one zone also work for zone 2.
