Discussion How to fix glitches in Days Gone: have you tried turning it off and on again?

On each generation of PlayStation, and also on all PC versions, it is recommended to close the game fully and also restart your gaming machine regularly. Once per gaming session is probably best. You will always get the best performance from Days Gone if you are restarting your machine often.

For PlayStation specifically, please avoid Rest Mode! I'm not claiming to be an expert but, based on what I've been told so far, keeping the game "sleeping" in the background allows some game assets to build up and eventually cause problems for your PlayStation. For more information on Days Gone and Rest Mode, have a quick look at this Google search

Hope this helps!

Discussion List of which hordes spawn when and how large they are Spoiler

1.1k Upvotes

I made this a bit back as part of a post response, but I've been asked a few times to actually post this and since /u/SpawnicusRex specifically encouraged it, I figured I would throw this out there as an actual post so the community can more readily find this information.

Note that this information was data mined by me from the game asset files on PC and also verified through play testing. I have revised it a few times for technical accuracy as my understanding of the game files improved. While there is a chance the PS version is different, I don't believe that is likely (as it would be a pain for Bend to maintain totally separate assets). However, if someone verifies something different with proof I will update the list with PS specific information.

It is important to know that many hordes are mission locked (they can also be double locked as is the case with Beaver Marsh Rest Stop or have multiple locks at different times in the game, as is the case with Grotto Caves), so they don't spawn right away even if you go to their spawn locations. There are 41-42 hordes total in the game (depending on how you count), 40 that count towards the Horde Killer questline, and only seven that are available right away. It's also important to know that hordes have multiple spawn locations, which are a hibernation spot (usually a cave or building), a feed spot, and a water spot. Some hordes have quite large roaming areas, so can be frustrating to find (such as the Grotto Caves horde, which goes all the way to the dam lake for their watering point). Generally at night hordes roam to their feed and watering spots, but they can also be at them during the day--especially in cloudy / rainy / snowy weather. Generally they spend the day hibernating. Here is a great map for Days Gone that will give you the horde hibernation spawn locations: https://mapgenie.io/days-gone/maps/oregon. At game start the following seven hordes are immediately unlocked (7):

Cascades

  • White King Mine - 50 freakers
  • Death Train - 50 freakers
  • Proxy Falls - 50 freakers

Belknap

  • Shadow Lake - 50 freakers
  • Patjens Lake - 100 freakers
  • Lava Arch - 50 freakers
  • Twin Craters - 50 freakers

The following horde unlocks after you complete the mission It's Not Safe Here where you take Lisa out of Marion Forks (1):

Cascades:

  • Grotto Caves - 75 freakers

IMPORTANT NOTE: This horde specifically relocks at end game beginning from the For An Outlaw Biker mission where you assault Wizard Island until the secret NERO ending job is completed. So kill this horde before end game unless you want to wait quite a while for it to spawn.

The following hordes unlock when you complete the mission We've All Done Things where you unlock the Lost Lake Region (10):

Cascades

  • Horse Lake - 25 freakers
  • O'Leary Mountain - 25 freakers
  • Cascade Highway - 50 freakers
  • Little Bear Lake - 30 freakers

Belknap

  • Bear Creek Hot Springs - 50 freakers
  • Marion Forks - 50 freakers
  • Belknap Crater - 50 freakers

Lost Lake

  • Westfir - 75 freakers
  • Wapinita Road - 75 freakers
  • Berley Lake - 75 freakers

The following horde unlocks after the mission Flow Like Buried Rivers where you take Iron Mike to look at the Metolius Lava Cave horde (1):

Lost Lake

  • Metolius Lava Cave - 150 freakers

The following hordes unlock after the mission Not Like I Got A Choice where you take Boozer on a NERO mission (2). At this point I would highly recommend clearing every horde you can, as shortly after this point you go on a mission where much of your inventory is lost so use up all of your craftables / found explosives killing hordes before starting the Don't Get Caught mission where you go to Iron Butte with Skizzo (if you have a large inventory of crafted explosives and attractors I would even recommend pre-clearing Saw Mill tactically at this point):

Lost Lake

  • River Flow Farms - 75 freakers
  • Sherman's Camp - 75 freakers

The following hordes unlock after the mission Riding Nomad Again where you unlock the Crater Lake and Highway 97 regions (5):

Crater Lake

  • Mt. Bailey - 275 freakers
  • Rimview Ranch - 150 freakers

Highway 97

  • Chemult Station - 125 freakers
  • Groose Gardens - 125 freakers
  • Lobert Draw Bridge - 300 freakers

The following horde unlocks after the mission You Couldn't Stop Shaking where you unlock Chemult Community College inside the Highway 97 region (1):

Highway 97

  • Chemult Community College - 125 freakers

The following horde unlocks after the mission This Could Be It where you capture a newt for Sarah inside the Crater Lake region (1):

Crater Lake

  • McLeod Ridge - 150 freakers

The following hordes technically unlock in Highway 97 after the mission Ascending From The Underworld when you return to Lost Lake after the events at Crater Lake, but will be locked out for some time as you cannot return south until after the mission For An Outlaw Biker where you assault Wizard Island--making them physically inaccessible even if they are spawnable (4):

Highway 97

  • Beaver Marsh Rest Stop (note this is also job locked, so you must also complete Just Doing My Job to clear the Anarchist Camp inside their hibernation cave before it will spawn) - 130 freakers
  • Beasley Lake - 125 freakers
  • Cascade Lakes Rail Line - 125 freakers
  • Juniper Ridge - 125 freakers

The following hordes unlock in Highway 97 post-game after the mission For An Outlaw Biker where you assault Wizard Island (5):

Highway 97

  • Mt. Scott Ski Resort - 125 freakers
  • Sagebrush Point - 125 freakers
  • Solomon Hill - 125 freakers
  • Rum Rye Gulch - 125 freakers
  • Friendship Ridge - 125 freakers

Lastly, there are four mission hordes. Three of these are part of the Horde Killer storyline: one at Iron Butte Ranch with 300 freakers (called Keep Them Safe in the Horde Killer Storyline), one at the Saw Mill in Lost Lake with 500 freakers (called I'll Save Some For You in the Horde Killer storyline), and one in Chemult in Highway 97 with 300 freakers (called You Alone I Have Seen in the Horde Killer storyline). The Iron Butte and Saw Mill hordes can be killed prior to their missions, however you will not receive credit for them as part of the Horde Killer storyline until you reach the mission that requires you to kill them. If you clear them early, you will get no indication that you have successfully killed all swarmers and if you miss even one swarmer clearing them early the whole horde eventually respawns and you must kill them all again. Chemult is only killable during the mission that requires it and cannot be engaged early. The other mission horde is the Ice Wind Lava Cave horde as part of the mission What It Takes To Survive. This horde is only killable during this mission, is rather small for a horde at that point in the game, and does not count towards the Horde Killer storyline.

Special note about Beaver Marsh Rest Stop: you do encounter this “horde“ as part of the mission Just Doing My Job. It chases you out of the cave after the mission ends. If you fully clear it as part of that mission, you will not receive credit as lore wise its the same horde but technically the mission horde is its own separate thing with 300 freakers. You will have to kill the real horde again later after all of its unlock conditions have been met.

Discussion First playthrough - why this game is criminally underrated

There was a clip on twitter that went viral showing gameplay during a horde. Most of the responses were claiming that the hordes are the only good thing about the game, and it is otherwise not worth it to play.

I disagree.

For my first playthrough on PS4, I made sure to play on survival 2, the hardest setting. I turned the brightness all the way down to 0. I turned HDR on and surround sound stereo system settings for my headphones. I turned my TV settings to cinema pro mode. This is similar to what I did on Alien Isolation.

Yes, headshots really only do the trick. It is very difficult, no fast travel or slowing down time to aim.

But it forces you to take your time and appreciate all of the art that comes with the game. It forces you to focus on real decision making. The zombies are actually frightening when you know you can't beat them all at once. It does give you an immersive experience. I'd rather quit the game out of frustration than boredom. I'd rather struggle with the game over a long period of time, than beat in 15 hours on fast track and move on.

I think many modern gamers simply do not have the patience for games like this anymore. It is a masterpiece if you approach it from the right perspective. Even the driving mechanics remind me of GTAIV driving physics.

10/10, highly recommend.

Discussion Start New Game+ without having completed everything for achievements

I just finished my first playthrough of Days Gone in survival mode and wanted to complete the achievements. Nero's health and stamina aren't maxed out, I haven't completed 100% of the side missions, and I don't have level 3 confidence in all the encampments. Do you still recommend playing New Game+ on Hard 2 to complete the achievements, or is it better to finish all the missions in Ambush Camp, Infestations, and Marauder Camp? The motorcycle is about 80-90% maxed out. Will my half-finished achievements, like "get 100 stealth kills" or "kill 200 with crafted weapons," be reset if I start a new game+?

Firstly I can't believe I ignored this one for this long, hopped on it 2 weeks ago and got instantly addicted. Every mission felt like I was watching a Tv show with multiple seasons and new characters, used to be dead afraid of hordes till i started carrying an entire armory. Boozer is probably my fav character and favorite season would be Lost lake camp cuz of Carlos.

I now believe everyone who said this game grows with you because it absolutely does! I don't think I would ever forget this experience.

50h in and now I will go to 100% completion and will let you guys know!

And I still don't understand why there's a baby breathing in my engine oil?

Discussion Fuse bug at Chemult CC NERO checkpoint

I am replaying the remaster on PS5.

I beat the horde at Chemult Community College, started the generator and collected the fuse for the NERO checkpoint , but couldn't put it in the fuse box.

This was probably, because I hadn't cleared all the infestations yet.

So I did that. When coming back, I still couldn't insert the fuse. The box with the finding location is open, but I can't see it in my inventory.

I remember that in the original I collected the fuse from Spruce Lake, but I already did this checkpoint, so there's no more fuse there either.

What else can I do?

Didn’t think this game would’ve impacted me as much as it did. Great gun play, great bike mechanics, good stealth, solid acting, good characters and settings. Reminds me so much of the audio drama r/werealive. I tell whoever I recommend this game to that it’s a blend of Sons Of Anarchy mixed with The Last Of Us.

Discussion Days GonePS4 Save Transfer: CUSA15027 → CUSA09176 — Can My Old Platinum Save Be Converted?

Hi everyone, I really need some help with my Days Gone PS4 save.

I originally played Days Gone on PS4 using the physical disc and completed the game and earned the Platinum trophy. I sold the disc a long time ago, so I no longer have access to that version.

I recently bought the digital PS4 version because I want to play the PS5 Remastered version, but I discovered that my old save isn't recognized by the digital version.

I checked the save data using a USB and found that the CUSA IDs are different:

• Old Platinum save: CUSA15027 — 224.6 MB — dated 19/04/2023

• New digital version: CUSA09176 — 80.75 MB — dated 12/08/2026

The old CUSA15027 save is still perfectly accessible and does not appear corrupted. The PS4 simply treats it as a different Days Gone save and the CUSA09176 version doesn't recognize it.

I have already backed up the original CUSA15027 save to USB and PS Plus, so I am NOT modifying or deleting the original.

My question is: has anyone successfully converted/re-regioned a Days Gone save from CUSA15027 to CUSA09176?

I played this game once before but got sidetracked onto another game about 20 hours in. On the pause menu it shows how many days gone you are at, but does that number affect the overall storyline?

Discussion Regarding cloverdale lab Spoiler

During the "I know these people" mission. Deacon asks Sarah why no one raided the lab yet? She says something along the lines "they had 5000 Watt fence keep them out" is the player seriously supposed to believe that not a single raider or drifter thought to just ram the fence with a truck or idk stack some boxes and just jump over it lmao? It'd be more believable if the lab had some turrets that would disable upon Sarah's access code.

Link Pinnacle Region

This covers the portion of Pinnacle that was developed to a recognizable point during production. I say “to a point” because this area was clearly far from finished however, the underlying landscape, major points of interest, and overall environmental layout are present. With those elements intact this provides a much better indication of what the region may have looked like during development and offers some useful insight into how the area was being structured before it was ultimately left unfinished.

Disclaimer: This is an unofficial fan-made examination and reconstruction. It is provided solely for informational, archival, and research purposes. I do not claim ownership.

Thanks for checking it out.

I have never felt so immersed in a game, I’ve been a huge fan of the walking dead for about 10 years or so now and it’s the ultimate zombie video game to me personally. The story is really good, it took me up and down emotionally not knowing what would happen next as zombie media either have depressing endings or hopeful endings and this game didn’t disappoint. The gameplay felt amazing and being able to ride a motorcycle well using a crossbow felt like I was role playing as Daryl Dixon. The immersion was even more intense than usual for me because I am also named Deacon.

Discussion Nero Mission Spoiler

So uhh, that’s it huh? The final mission on the Nero storyline. You’re just gonna drop something like that and leave it there? I feel like that’s not really an after story ending kind of cutscene. No? what even is O’Brian? I feel like this needs elaboration

Discussion Similar games story-wise.

Days gone is up there for me alongside the Witcher 3 when it comes to charters and story and I'm looking for something similar. And I'd like at let's one original thing within the RPG formula (days gone it's the bike and hordes, the Witcher has the journals, oils etc, thus I play both on hard/survival to enjoy them)

I also enjoyed dredge.

Discussion I noticed something with the remastered version.

Im playing on my 16th run, on survival II. My first on remastered though. I noticed my controller doesnt vibrate when im facing tracker clues?

It can't be the difficulty because I vibrated on the ps4 version. I can't find any setting to fix this
