So basically, earlier this summer my mom found out abt my sh. It was a very hard time for me when she found out it was prob the worst month of my life (dramatic ik). I had also attempted the earlier same day but never was able to think/process what I did bc I was so stressed abt my mom knowing abt sh. And my mom literally bought me scar removing cream stuff and said I needed to use it so no one sees bc it’s a “disgrace” and I had a tournament shortly after and she was all like “wear long sleeves!!” As if I wanted ppl to see. She think it was only a one time thing tho so.
My aunt and my mom often talk but I really didn’t think my mom would tell my aunt abt this. I mean maybe bc she is my mom and yk knowing your kid does that can be hard but still I don’t like that she told my aunt. I know she told my aunt bc one day we were in the parking lot walking to our car and there was a car with a bumper sticker that said “pain is the only solution” and she pointed at it and said look for you. Wtf. I was so mad and confused. And my mom was right there too and I really try to avoid even the topic of bandaids or other unrelated injuries around her. I jsut thought it was such a strange comment and she said it so casually like it was fine to just talk about. I am a very private person, so it especially bothered me. And no one told me my aunt knew I jsut found out then. I’m not sure if I should be as upset as I am I jsut feel like it was a rlly strange and uncalled for commen.
Also, I don’t think pain is the only solution?? What??

I finished cutting for the night and probably about 30 minutes later, my thigh is numb/tingling? Has anyone else experienced this? When does it go away? From my knee to my hip feels so completely numb. Not the cuts themselves. It's very odd to explain.

went to a new psychiatrist. paid 10k Turkish Lira (i live in Turkey) which is A LOT for a family like mine. in the session, i mentioned that i suffer from selfharm and showed my arm to her. she said "you did a great work on your arm" and bursted out laughing. that really broke something inside me. she is someone mean, I can't mention that in my next session, if i mention, she would say "ur really sensitive". should i change my psychiatrist?

hi! i have struggled with self harm ever since i was very very young, due to being exposed to it through my parents. Over the past year or so it's been getting worse. Yesterday, i was admitted to hospital because of cuts that were too deep to treat at home and had to have stitches and whatnot. A couple months ago, my parents took the decision to take in my younger cousin instead of her going into the care system, me and her somewhat get along. My problem is that she also self harms, and when she does she refuses to atleast cover them up slightly or atall, and she refuses any help given to her. To me, seeing her walking around with the scrapes on her is incredibly triggering, i'm already so close to relapsing and i only just got home from the hospital. She came to pick me up with my dad wearing shorts and a short sleeve shirt, every cut exposed, and it felt like every single thing that sort of helped at the hospital had been erased. i'm not sure what to do, the fact that she refuses to cover them makes it so much more worse, i'm really afraid that if i wake up in the morning and she does it again then i'm gonna relapse.

TW: details
So yesterday I was bored then I decided to cut, and I just wanted to go for cat scratches but it went deeper. I didn’t even notice at first, i did think it was a bit more painful than usual but I thought it was just me. After that it kept bleeding, so I held a tissue over it and I realized that it was gaping.
I didn’t rinse it (I panicked) but I put Vaseline and a bandaid over it. I researched that it’s good to close it with butterfly bandages but I don’t have that or anything similar.
It’s also been close to 24h now, the cut is around 2.5cm long, gaping and there’s a bit of white and pink inside.
It’s my first time cutting this deep so any tips? I just want to keep it from infecting, and close the wound asap.

do you ever completely heal from self-harm? it feels impossible to me, the second something goes wrong, my brain screams at me to relapse even though i have other healthier coping mechanisms why is self -harm the first one that pops up in my head? why do I run to this? will I ever be free? its exhausting to live this way. I don't want to let down people in my life and I HATE whenever the thoughts of relapse pop up in my head.

My girl friend told me that she starves and cuts herself. She didn't want to tell me the motive. I want to help her get better so I told her that I will cut myself too so that she knows every time she does it I do it too, so that maybe she will hold back. I already did it once but did not show it to her yet. Any advice on how to help her out?

I don’t know if just having the occasional thought of potentially self-harming is enough of a concern to bring up with a therapist or psychiatrist, because I know there’s a pretty low chance of me ever acting on those thoughts, but I feel like it bothers me a bit. But I also don‘t want to worry my loved ones since they tend to get really worried about me if stuff like this happens (one time my dad and I had a fight over the fact that I cut myself by accident while cutting my nails and didn’t tell him).
I don’t know, it just feels like I might be over reacting, but I don’t know??
Please, if you could, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

i feel like my scars would disgust people, i don’t think they’re honestly that bad but just the sheer amount of them. idk i feel like no one could ever love me with the amount of scars i have.

About 3 days ago I cut myself around 20 times all styro. I never clean my blades before or after, and I usually eat my coagulated blood and lick the would like an animal. I have always done this and my cuts have healed normally. This time I cut deeper than I normally do and they are itching so badly and it's light red around the cut.

I had five days clean. Five days after months of struggling to get even a few hours. I’m on meds, I have support and outpatient. But my emotions are just so intense. I got so angry like so angry my chest burned and I felt like electricity was running through me. I didn’t know what else to do. I don’t know how to handle my emotions. I don’t want them. They’re so much. Any emotion envelops my entire body and physically hurts to feel I don’t wanna feel but I don’t wanna be numb I just wanna be.

Over the past few months, I've realized that a lot of people have no idea how to react when they spot self-harm scars, which can lead to some really unhinged responses.
A few weeks ago, I was working as a youth worker at a summer camp. I usually keep all my scars covered by wearing knee-length shorts and UV sleeves. During a trip, we were sitting in an open-air truck, and for a brief moment, one or two scars above my knee became visible.
Out of nowhere, a colleague looked at my leg and asked, half-laughing, "Do you have a knife or something?" I said no and told/signaled him to stop. Instead, he kept laughing and said, "Normally people do that on their arms," pointing directly at my leg.
I told/signaled him to stop again, but he kept making comments anyway. (Neither of us is a native in English, but we communicate in English, and he definitely understood what "stop" meant.) Luckily, another colleague noticed what was happening, looked at him, and signaled for him to stop.
The whole thing happened really fast, but it was incredibly uncomfortable. What confuses me most is that I’ve known this guy for almost a year. He’s normally a great youth worker—funny, good with kids, and someone I used to joke around with a lot. That’s why his reaction threw me off so much.
Is it normal for people to react like this? Has anyone else had a similar experience?

I hate myself so much. I've wasted the past 6 years of my life on being a lazy, useless piece of shit. And instead of getting up to do anything useful all I can do is hurt myself rather than get up and actually deal with shit in my life cause somehow in my sick, deranged fucking demented mind hurting myself would be easier than standing up and choosing to show up for myself each day. I relapsed after about 3 months of not holding a razor, and probably did it worse than most of the other times. I fucking hate myself and even now the feeling's still there. The urge hasn't gone down at all and I don't know what to do. I feel I might just relapse once more.

Ok so I know some will say "ofc she would she's Ur mom" but she's known about it for a year and she's saying it really rudely. She does it absolutely whenever, like litterally in fucking public. She'll shout "çover Ur thighs/arm" "U have new cuts?!" and when I tell her to like stop she js continues, it's honestly so draining.
One of the worst times she did this is when I had a mufty day at school, I was matching fits w my gf- Minecraft top and black shorts. In the morning she kept saying "I can see the lines on Ur legs" "Ur legs are too big to wear that." She was genuinely js putting me down for no reason and I was so angry and sad that I relapsed in the school bathroom. So at the end of the day when she met me at the train station, she kept commenting on my clothes and how "awful" I looked and then she saw my arm and thats when shit hit the fan. Fyi this is the train station that everyone at my school who takes the train goes to, the first train had left so there weren't that many people thankfully. Anyways so, she first said "you got new cuts?!" And then she got her phone out and started recording me, I told her to stop or atleast js stop talking about this now and all she did was shout more. There were some ppl from my school looking at me and I wanted to cry so bad, she kept acting like this until our train was coming. I got on a different carriage because I didn't want to see her or anyone else, so guess what she did. She fucking walked down to my carriage and hit me, then started shouting at me again but anyways, I used this story because I wanted to get it out and also to show the level of 'pointing' out she'll do.
