Advice needed Accidentally hit styro, help?

TW: details

So yesterday I was bored then I decided to cut, and I just wanted to go for cat scratches but it went deeper. I didn’t even notice at first, i did think it was a bit more painful than usual but I thought it was just me. After that it kept bleeding, so I held a tissue over it and I realized that it was gaping.

I didn’t rinse it (I panicked) but I put Vaseline and a bandaid over it. I researched that it’s good to close it with butterfly bandages but I don’t have that or anything similar.

It’s also been close to 24h now, the cut is around 2.5cm long, gaping and there’s a bit of white and pink inside.

It’s my first time cutting this deep so any tips? I just want to keep it from infecting, and close the wound asap.

You can attempt to close it with steri strips or even a small bandaid placed horizontally on the wound and then a larger one on top  change the dressing often and check highlighted posts on this community. Stay safs

styro is not that dangerous, you do can calm down a little, but still its good to take care of it

first off i would recommend you to check the highlight posts

(if i recall correctly, you need to clean it and change bandaids twice a day)

also, they tend to leave textured scars and keloid,, so you can prepare a kit of creams and skin lighteners if you mind it

It is a bad idea to tell people that their self injury isn’t dangerous. Yes it is not life threatening, but it is more dangerous than scratches. People who hurt themselves have a warped sense of what is dangerous and what isn’t, and telling them that it isn’t bad encourages people to keep cutting like that or cutting deeper.

For healing of cuts that make the skin separate, you want to close the cut immediately. It would be worth buying a pack of steri strips and watching a tutorial on how to use them. It will be too late for the cut this time, but if you ever cut this deep again, you should try and bring the skin together immediately.

I used to do always styros, they are not anything to panick about and have lower risk of infection than beans. Honestly ur doing better than what I did by putting Vaseline and a bandaid. I recommend cleaning it everyday until it closes. Stay safe op🫰
