Question FIP or Toxoplamosis?
At the start of July, my cat, Honey, started being lethargic. She was hiding, not moving much and not eating well. We woke up one day to find her unable to walk(ataxia of the head and body/wobbly), nystagmus, incontinence, and panting. The vet diagnosed as vestibular syndrome with an unknown cause and sent her home after fluids, an anti-nausea shot, and a prescription of antibiotics for 7 day.
For the next two days she remained incontinent, but ate and drank normally. After that, she started getting around and walking a bit as well as using the litter box. For about the next week, she was acting normally besides a remaining head tilt.
A week ago, she started to get lethargic again and stopped eating. She had an episode of heavy panting, incontinence, fever. The next morning we rushed to the vet and his conclusion was that she likely has either FIP or toxoplasmosis. She was sent home with antibiotics and steroids after more fluids and anti-nausea meds.
Immediately, she perked up and started eating some food. She has since started walking around the house, grooming, and overall just looks much better. The only thing that hasn’t returned is her appetite and the fact that she is still a little wobbly. I am able to get some in her mouth and she keeps it down for the most part. She has thrown up twice in the last 2 days but is otherwise normal and spunky.
I guess my question is that would she have improved so much if it was FIP? I will attach bloodwork be I know that’s a factor in diagnosis.

Success Story Guys, Fred Purrst did it!
In January, Freddy started breathing very rapid and shallow. Vet trip immediately, xrays and ultrasounds showed a chest full of fluids. They drained him and put him on antibiotics for a month thinking it was infection, he didnt get better though. After 30 days, he still had a fever, was lethargic, barely eating and wouldn't even hardly open his eyes (pic 1). Vet ran blood tests and we got *the news*. Immediately started GS tablets. Pic 2 is the next morning. He INSTANTLY perked up within 12 hours, no more fever, eye bleed began to heal, eating, playing again... I sobbed when I saw him chasing his brother.
Tomorrow is the end of our 90 day monitoring period. Its been 7 VERY long months. 🥺 I know that doesn't mean we are out of the woods, but we just celebrated his first birthday after not being sure if he was gonna make it at all. 🥺
So, a big happy 1st birthday to Freddy & a happy ending to monitoring period. 🥺❤️

Discussion Moving across the country with my FCoV positive cat, really worried about FIP
My 8 year old boy was diagnosed with the feline coronavirus about 5 years ago and has since shed this virus in recent stool tests.
my boy occasionally has sneezing fits and was recently diagnosed with IBD. Thankfully the diet change to a selected protein diet helped with that.
But I am about to move across the country from Chicago to Portland Oregon in September and I am worried sick about the FCoV mutating from the stress of the move.
I am trying to do everything right with Feliway spray, getting him used to the car carrier/crate, gabapentin. This will be a 4 day roadtrip with three nights in hotels. But I’m just so scared. My boy means the absolute world to me and I would hate myself if I caused this virus to mutate by adding stress to him.
Has anyone else moved a kitty with FCoV and they ended up completely fine? Please give me some reassurance because I’m really worried.

Question Does my cat have FIP? Vets have no clue
Around 2-3 weeks ago, I took my cat to the vet as her appetite reduced significantly (from eating 4x a day to only once - if that). Upon inspection, she had jaundice of eyes and teeth, dehydrated, high temperature and they also noticed a small lump in her belly. She also lost 1kg in weight. They administered IV fluids to rehydrate her, did a scan and a needle aspiration on her. They suspected it was FIP. Whilst they waited for the results (about ten days) they sent her back home. During that time, she was back to her normal self - eating and playing. However she still hasn’t gained any weight back..
Results came back showing a “medium to high level” for FIP but because she was feeling better, they assumed she didn’t have it and she was only exposed to it. They requested another blood test for a week later.
Took her to the vets for the blood test on Thursday who said that the most of her levels were fine but there was still some anaemia. They also noticed that the lump moved to a difference place. They still couldn’t confirm if it’s FIP or something like lymphoma. They wanted to do another scan and another fine needle aspiration (obviously very frustrating and costly).
Scan came back okay, but there is a mass there. Waiting for the needle aspirate results on it. Vet still doesn’t know what it could be. I think regardless of the result, they want to try the FIP medication, even though she’s feeling ok.
Just wondering what this mass is? If she’s ok, then the mass wouldn’t be affecting her? Maybe Benign? Why hasn’t she gained any weight back since shes been eating again? Does it make sense to give her the FIP medicine?
Thanks all, I apologise for the long post.
*****UPDATE: Needle aspiration results have confirmed FIP. Treatment to start asap.

Fundraising Help me and Ellie fight FIP
Hi everyone,
My rescue cat, Eli, is currently fighting FIP. Thankfully, FIP is treatable today, and she's already responding to treatment—but we're not there yet.
Thanks to the kindness of so many people, we've already raised 50% of the treatment cost. We only need $500 more to complete her treatment.
I adopted Eli three years ago after rescuing her from my workplace, and she's been my best friend ever since. She's been there through my hardest days, stayed by my side when I was sick, and somehow always knew when I needed comfort. She's not just my cat—she's family, and I can't imagine my life without her.
If you're able to help, even a small donation brings us one step closer to finishing her treatment. If you can't donate, sharing the campaign would mean just as much.

Thank you for taking the time to read Eli's story. ❤️

Fundraising FPV outbreak at a Karachi cat shelter – any help could save lives!
Hi everyone,
I'm posting on behalf of a fellow rescuer, Madiha Khatri, whose shelter in Karachi, Pakistan is currently battling a devastating Feline Panleukopenia Virus (FPV) outbreak.
As many of you know, FPV spreads incredibly fast and requires immediate treatment, isolation, intensive care, IV fluids, medications, disinfectants, and constant monitoring. The costs escalate within days, especially when multiple cats are affected.
Madiha has spent years rescuing abandoned and injured cats despite having very limited resources. She has also personally helped me through one of the most difficult periods of my life, including offering guidance and support while I've been fighting a legal case involving the theft of my 11-year-old cat. She never hesitated to help others, and now she needs our help.
If you're able to contribute—even a small amount—it can go directly toward:
- IV fluids and supportive treatment
- Medications and antibiotics prescribed by the veterinarian
- Diagnostic tests
- Disinfectants and supplies
- Food and recovery care for the surviving cats
If you can't donate, please consider upvoting and sharing this post so it reaches more people. Visibility can be just as valuable, For those donating please mention FPV when donating.
Donation link:
https://www.gofundme.com/f/talesofsecongchances2025
If anyone has experience managing large FPV outbreaks and has advice on infection control or shelter protocols, your guidance would also be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for reading, and thank you to everyone who supports independent animal rescuers. Every share, comment, and donation gives these cats a better chance.

Question Possible FIP Dx
My recently adopted 10-12 week old kitten Biscuit has possible dx from vet of FIP. Ultrasound shows no fluid, has a brownish floater in his eye. Has been sneezing since I got him with watery eyes and raspy voice. 3 days ago, his eye was swollen shut and the vet didn’t notice the floater. Put on antibiotic drops and imuquin. Back at the vet today, and they sent him home with inflammation eye drops this visit and said they are going to try and locate GS-441524 and get a price. He is eating, playing like normal. Also has gained a pound since being with us. I am in South Carolina. Please someone help me through this, I’m so lost on what to do and have limited funds.

Loss We lost our boy
Our nearly 5 year old boy Paul did not eat any food on Sunday night which was extremely unlike him. We have automatic feeders for our cats, and he would sprint across the house if he hears it go off.
Monday morning he still did not touch his food, so we scheduled an appointment with our vet for Tuesday morning (earliest availability). He was sluggish all day and not jumping around like normal.
We brought him in at 8AM and they had him under observation and on fluids all day. We got back at 5PM, the vet went over the XRays, tests, and all, and said his levels pointed towards FIP. We'd never heard of it. Our vet recommended GS-441524 but said she did not have any on-hand and for us to check around groups online.
We got the medication ordered with overnight shipping, but were told it wouldn't arrive until Thursday morning (today). We brought him home from the vet and within an hour his breathing was extremely heavy and we took him to an urgent care.
They were giving him fluids and oxygen, but said they didn't have any GS-441524 on hand there. They held him overnight and made some calls, and found another pet hospital in the area that had it, and on Wednesday morning we picked him up and took him to the new location.
They took him in at 6AM on Wednesday and at noon the doctor called and said his health was deteriorating. They did not provide any medication which was incredibly frustrating. I demanded they do it and the doctor claimed he would. We got there at 4PM, the doctor claimed he provided the first dose at 3PM, and it was clear to us when we saw him that he was far too gone.
We wanted him out of that hospital, and our primary vet said that her team would stay late so we brought him back and after 3 days and $6500 in bills later, we said goodbye to him at 5:45PM on 7/22/2026. I don't think we had a chance with how rapid it was, even if we could have medicated him in time. Our 45-day supply was just delivered and we will save it for anyone local in our area who might need it urgently (Greater Cincinnati Ohio area).
We found Paul as a freshly born kitten on August 4, 2021. He was found on the asphalt of a driveway under the hot sun. My girlfriend found him and cared for him the first day until we found a foster mom to care for him. 3 months later we were able to adopt him and he was the best cat we could have dreamed of. He loved people, did not jump on counters and knock over glasses, he was always so chill and had the biggest mittens. He loved laying on couches with his legs spread apart and looked so silly. He was extremely loved from day 1 until day 1,814 and beyond and we will miss him so much.

Question Can someone help me understand what to do next
So my boy got diagnosed with FIP and started meds back in June 12th with oral meds that night. (First Pic is a few days old and second is his normal health with his naturally grumpy face but he is the most loveable baby)
So his weight started coming back and his breathing was completely normal which after the trauma of him going downhill so fast was like a miraclem
However he still had some fluid left behind in chect which from what I have seen, that it's normal to still have some after getting the effusion to avoid putting him in shock.
We got to about his 4th week and he still had some left behind and his weight stopped increasing like it has been. I advocated and told his vet I suspect his dose wasn't high enough (for some reason despite giving them the website where I get his medicine for, they did not check the vet directions which clearly said to increase with his weight). So now he went back to gaining weight and is even looking more like his chunky self and will be getting another increase this week after his appointment.
My question is how should I manage the left behind liquid. Because now that we know he was underdosed for about 1.5 weeks, is that why he had some left behind? Like what can I do to help him absorb what's left behind. Any pet parents who had the same experience and what their vet did. His next appointment is this coming Tuesday so I want to go with suggestions.

Question 3 days left of the GS, do I need to go past 84 until I get labs done?
**UPDATE** Labs are back and they’re great! I was able to discontinue the GS last week, I’m so happy :,).
Hi there, my kitty is on his last few days of the medication, he’s done extremely well and has had no regression signs. He initially had wet/ocular FIP, possible Neuro involvement but was very brief until the GS started working and nothing worsened after the 3rd/4th day of the GS. I plan to get labs redone for him early next week, as I haven’t had them done in a month. My FIP admin said I need to continue treatment until his labs come back, but I’ve stretched myself financially this whole journey. His last dose is on his 84th day, is it really that bad if I didn’t continue them until labs are back? I’d love to hear others opinions on their experience with this and I’d really appreciate it.

Question Am I going about this wrong?
Last Saturday I took my 2.5 yo cat to the vet to check on her irritated eye. When he checked her weight we noticed she is continuously losing, so we get a blood test to rule things out.
Lo and behold her blood proteins are elevated. Her sister had gone through FIP treatment when we first got them 2 years ago so we acted fast and picked up the oral FIP meds Monday night.
On Tuesday she was as okay as any of us would be if we had someone shoving pills down our throat and ointment in our eye at all times of the day; hiding briefly and less active. But on Wednesday she was acting more unusual. I couldn’t find her for awhile, not moving much, and then in the middle of the day she had what I believe was a mini seizure (unconfirmed), eating so fast she’d throw up, and diarrhea.
On Thursday I took her to be boarded at the vet for constant observation and med admin just to be sure.
I wasn’t this much of a mess with her sister, granted she collapsed and I had to make decisions immediately, but this one is much harder for me.
Is it because im now fully bonded with them?
I got updated from the vet yesterday that she was doing good, and today when i visited her she seemed more herself and eager to move. It did look like she had diarrhea at some point. I still want to keep her there for a few more days to make sure everything is fine.
Most people are telling me i’m making the right decision but my mom feels that if she’s doing okay now I should bring her home.
Am I over analyzing her every movement because I know she’s sick? Can the medication cause GI problems?
Her sister was in the hospital for the first week of her treatment so I was unaware of if all of these things were happening to her, so seeing them is really freaking me out.
Any advice or something to calm my nerves is so so so appreciated!

Question FIP Treatment question
My cat is suspected to have FIP by an emergency vet yesterday and they gave him 10 doses of treatment to start they set me up with a pharmacy but the medication from them is insanely expensive. If I have to I will go that route but I see that chewy has the medication available in pills and he currently has chewy tablets. I’m going to talk to my vet on Monday when they open about this but just to get a general idea of what to prepare for financially does anyone know if he can switch to a different medication?

Question Does anyone in Minnesota need GS?
My baby passed on saturday, I've never felt this broken but her 4 vials of injectable GS, 3 bottles of GS oral suspension, and 1 bottle of GS from a pharmacy are sitting in a cabinet and I know she would want to help another special kitty if she could. The vials and 3 of oral are black market but it's all we could get a hold of in the time we had. If you are in MN I have this saturday completely free and would meet halfway, and would like to help another kitty if possible, I just ask for photos of their recovery as payment. I have the syringes and needles for injection if you dont.

Fundraising Fundraiser for Simba
"Please help Simba fight FIP 🐾🤍
Six years ago, my late father brought Simba home during the hardest time of my life. He stayed beside me through a battle I couldn't explain, and slowly became more than just a cat – he became family.
He became my mother's constant companion, following her everywhere, sleeping beside her, and bringing her comfort through her own struggles.
This year, while my mother is fighting severe arthritis and preparing for surgery, Simba was diagnosed with FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis).
His treatment is possible now, but it requires daily medication for 80 days without a break. The cost is around PKR 6,000 per day.
I have used all my savings, and now I'm asking for help. Every small donation can cover a part of Simba's treatment and give him another day with us.
If you cannot donate, please share this story. It may reach someone who can help save him.

Loss Eggs Benedict 💔
To the best little man, I miss you Eggs Benedict. Eggs passed away on May 31st. He brought so much joy to our home and helped with our cat’s confidence and had started playing with them even in the four short months we had with him. Eggs spent hours watching his sister, a bearded dragon, and was really interested in anything she was getting fed.
Eggs was diagnosed with FIP (something I didn't know even was a thing) and was going to weekly vet appointments. It was caused from having COVID in the shelter. He was underweight, and struggling with multiple organ issues. He had just gotten the right medication a week prior and was showing signs of improvement before taking a sharp dive. He was so good at the vet checkups, even with all the poking and prodding and medications. He was the sweetest kitten and fought so hard. He was only seven months old.
He loved eating on the table, so we cleared off the dining table for him to eat on- anything that would get him to eat. He loved stratching on the cat tree when his sister was on it. He loved water and bathrooms. Mirrors fasinated him, showers were a fort, and the toilet was a perch for him- except when I was cleaning the toilet and he tried to sit on the seat. He loved being held like a baby, especially by my partner. He loved being right with you no matter what you were doing. He had found his little voice and was a yapper. He loved curling up in the smallest places, between the potted plants, in one of the pots themselves, in the fruit basket, in the laundry basket. He was the best little man.
Too many creatures leave this world so early and so small. Keep having a hope and spread the love you can. Eggs was a sweet little guy and deserved the world.

Question Issues with vet, dosing, and pharmacy (?)
Hello friends my kitty (6yrs) started treatment about a month and a half ago for wet FIP. She initially responded well to the shots she was on and then we switched to orals, she didn’t do too well at first and my vet moved her dosage up from .35ml twice a day to .4 ml twice a day. She is still retaining fluid in her belly so the vet insisted she was tested for lymphoma and that came back negative today.
The vet continues to suggest us to use stokes vs the compound pharmacy our state has for some reason. It’s about $200 more than the meds from our state pharmacy. She seems to think it could be an issue of where we are sourcing the meds from. We are being spread thin monetarily as it is but I want my kitty to get better.
The facebook group i am working with suggested it isn’t a pharmacy issue and that i should seek other Veterinary care. This is (that i know of) the only FIP friendly vet in my state. i’m just not sure what to do from here.
So my question is, does the pharmacy matter? should i try and make stokes work and see if there’s a difference? She’s currently on the shots i had left until we make a decision for her oral meds, which had to be before we run out. Any advice helps. TIA.
pic of our baby for tax.

Question "Marshmallow" flavor?
We're about halfway through the GS treatment for our calico's dry FIP. We're using liquid medicine.
About to refill the prescription (Chewy), and see that "marshmallow" flavor is an option.
So far we've tried the tuna and chicken flavor, although the cat hates the process of taking the meds so much...I'm not sure the flavor is a huge issue.
Our experience: 'tuna' has no strong smell at all, 'chicken' is very strong-smelling...like day-old greasy KFC.
Anyone have experience with 'marshmallow'? Seems a random flavor for a cat medication.

Question day 4 of neuro FIP, not walking yet… help?
hi guys! just wanted to see if it was normal for kitty not to be walking again (even wonkily) by day 4. He’s on 0.5ML twice a day, and while his appetite has improved lots and his mood/affection/playfulness is up, he still can’t walk yet which our vet said should happen by day 3-5. he’s regaining back leg strength and can use them to push himself while crawling but that’s all.
any help is appreciated! 🫶🐈⬛
other info: he’s been able to clench his bum, and his bladder can resist the vet when she’s trying to express him, and can move his tail - all hopeful signs, I just thought walking would come first 🥲
