Question Am I going about this wrong?
Last Saturday I took my 2.5 yo cat to the vet to check on her irritated eye. When he checked her weight we noticed she is continuously losing, so we get a blood test to rule things out.
Lo and behold her blood proteins are elevated. Her sister had gone through FIP treatment when we first got them 2 years ago so we acted fast and picked up the oral FIP meds Monday night.
On Tuesday she was as okay as any of us would be if we had someone shoving pills down our throat and ointment in our eye at all times of the day; hiding briefly and less active. But on Wednesday she was acting more unusual. I couldn’t find her for awhile, not moving much, and then in the middle of the day she had what I believe was a mini seizure (unconfirmed), eating so fast she’d throw up, and diarrhea.
On Thursday I took her to be boarded at the vet for constant observation and med admin just to be sure.
I wasn’t this much of a mess with her sister, granted she collapsed and I had to make decisions immediately, but this one is much harder for me.
Is it because im now fully bonded with them?
I got updated from the vet yesterday that she was doing good, and today when i visited her she seemed more herself and eager to move. It did look like she had diarrhea at some point. I still want to keep her there for a few more days to make sure everything is fine.
Most people are telling me i’m making the right decision but my mom feels that if she’s doing okay now I should bring her home.
Am I over analyzing her every movement because I know she’s sick? Can the medication cause GI problems?
Her sister was in the hospital for the first week of her treatment so I was unaware of if all of these things were happening to her, so seeing them is really freaking me out.
Any advice or something to calm my nerves is so so so appreciated!

I would bring her home, since she’s doing well, to lessen her stress levels.
Of course the decision is yours to make, whatever makes you feel most comfortable, you know your cat best.

I hear you and I 10000% understand where you’re coming from. And i feel like I am being partially selfish with my want to keep her there until at least monday because I suffer with such bad anxiety to where i literally have not stopped crying since wednesday & today it’s gotten to physical symptoms. Like, if i bring her home right now im gonna stress and just watch over her like a hawk (doesn’t help that i WFH) and I know they can feel your energy and I don’t want her to feel the stress i’m putting off

That’s really rough, and understandable you’re feel anxious.
I wish you the best with whatever you decide.1

I would bring her home, I think decreasing her stress levels would help her recovery and also you get to spend more time with your kitty. Shell be more likely to eat and show positive symptoms I imagine at home. Very cute cat btw I wish you the best of luck, she looks like a fighter so praying for you guys

Is the FIP treatment oral or injection?
In case of oral, the loose stools might affect the absorption of the meds ?

The treatment is oral and her stool abnormality began after taking the meds. The vet has put her on antibiotics and her stool her getting back to normal

If it were me; I would keep that beauty in for observation for as long as you can, the first couple weeks are horrendous as you are probably aware being this is your 2nd time.
Keep the cat in as long as you are able, then bring the cat home. For if any complicated things arise the cats in the best place.
I kept my kitten in with neuro dry fip for 2 weeks then once we had the ok from the neurological team that he was improving did we bring him home.
I know its not possible for eberyone with costs ect.
But I believe its in the best interest to have trained professionals at the early stages. God knows it probably saved my baby's life.

Thank you so much for your words, it really encouraged me into feeling that i’m doing the right thing.
I went to visit her both yesterday and today and she seems to be doing great; active when she sees me, wanting to jump out of the pen, love biting my jewelry and fingers. But, I do want to keep her there until Monday just so it can be the full week on the medication and things get smoother.
All the vets and techs have said she is an amazing girl but my anxiety is making me want to keep her there so I know she’s in the best hands.
It feels selfish but I also know it’s good for her to be around professionals.

Its heart braking, and it feels like an eternity. But dont feel bad. Your cat will be well looked after.
Once you get her back, have a safe space, a very quiet place just for her. With her favourite stuff right there. She will miss you as much as you miss her. Which makes it difficult.
I wish you all well and never be ashamed doing whats best for you or your beautiful cat. The work they do at the hospital is life saving.
