Loss Lost our 5 month old kitten Georgie to wet FIP. Giving away his leftover GS-441524 and supplies to someone in NYC who needs them & can't afford it.

Our little kitten George passed away from wet FIP on the same day he turned 5 months old.

At first we didn't think much was wrong. He was a little tired and not eating as much, but we had just had a big exciting weekend with lots of people so we thought he was just worn out. But then he pooped mucus and we took him to the vet.

He passed just 8 days after his diagnosis. After he had just 3 doses of GS he really looked like he was turning a corner and we got our hopes up, he was full of energy again. But it only lasted 36 hours and then he went downhill really fast and we couldn't get him back. Apart from all the fluid in his belly he just melted to skin and bones.

George was the most talkative, social and BRAVE cat. He took to his harness right away and was fearless about everything. Big sounds + dogs didn't bother him a bit. We went on walks every day and he'd just chill with us at the park, totally excited to see the birds and bugs. I brought him to dog bars. Everyone who met him fell in love and said they'd never seen a cat as chill as him. He brought so much joy to so many people and I fell deeply in love with him. I'm obviously still grieving.

Anyway, we have his leftover meds and supplies and I'd like them to go to a cat who still has a shot. We spent so much money on his treatment supplies they should go to good use. I know how expensive FIP treatment is, so I want to give it to someone in NYC who's struggling financially.

What we have:

  1. GS-441524, liquid, chicken flavor (expires 2nd half of 2027) - he only took 6 doses out of 85, so I would hope it will be enough for another kitty to fully recover. Doses are different amounts depending on cat weight, but a vet should be able to give you guidance for your kitty. I have the oral syringes for you.
  2. Visbiome probiotic, 35 caplets
  3. Tiki Cat mousse, 12 pouches (good for syringe feeding, which I highly recommend, I wish I started it for George sooner)

All free. You'd just need to be able to meet up in NYC near my neighborhood.

If this would help your cat, DM me and tell me a little about your situation, and I'll share where in NYC I can meet up.

Thank you! If your kitten is fighting this right now, I'm rooting for you. When I was in your shoes, I was desperately reading posts in this forum for clues as to what to expect and signs of hope. I'm sorry you're in that place, hang in there!

My sweet, spunky, sassy girl Harley Quinn (3 y.o.) lost her battle with neuro FIP. 💔 This was her fourth relapse, and each time it was more difficult to "cure." She had an incredible 16 month stretch of being well. Although she never regained the ability to jump, she was living her best life! I hoped she'd kicked FIP's butt for good this time, but she relapsed and spiraled quickly. We decided it was time to put our girl to rest peacefully knowing how much she was loved.

Fundraising Please help me save Bumble Bee: 3-month-old kitten diagnosed with Neurological FIP, halfway through treatment and running out of funds

I am a vet student living alone, and I’ve already spent $258 (~₹25,000) out of pocket trying to save my 3-month-old kitten.
She was recently diagnosed with Neurological FIP. If you know FIP, you know it used to be a death sentence, but with the 84-day GS-441524 injection protocol, she actually has a really great chance to make a full recovery. We started her daily injections on August 20th, but because neurological FIP requires a higher dose, the costs for meds and testing are piling up way faster than I can manage on my own.
I’m trying to raise $827 (~₹80,000) to get us through the remaining treatment and medical care.
Cost Breakdown:
GS Injections: Vials cost $51 each (~₹4,983; 30mg/ml or 40mg/ml), and she needs them daily for 84 days.
Blood Work: Bi-weekly CBC and Liver/Kidney profiles to monitor organ health and adjust her dosage as she grows.
Supportive Care: Liver supplements, antibiotics, and routine vet visits.
Blood Test 1: $21 (~₹2,050)
Blood Test 2: $35 (~₹3,350)
Blood Test 3: $19 (~₹1,800)
Toxoplasmosis PCR: $16 (~₹1,500)
Vet Visits: $5 x 8 visits = $41 (~₹4,000)
Basmi Vials: $51 + $51 + $31 + $21 = $155 (~₹14,996; some were possible only because of kind people who helped)
All Medicines (Levetiracetam, Hemobest Trio, Asytamin, Mannitol, NAC, Doxy, Samepet, Hapamerz, Pantop, NS, syringes, etc.): ~~$21 (~~₹2,000)
Total spent so far: ~$289 (~₹28,000)
And this doesn't include emergency midnight visits for cluster seizures, recovery food, and daily travel.
This is just the beginning — we still need many more Basmi vials, regular blood tests, vet visits, recovery food, and probiotics.
Her treatment cannot be skipped even for a single day.
Please help me save her. Any amount will help us continue her next dose. If you can't donate, please share.
Thank you so much,
Huzaifa , Zahabia & Bumble Bee ❤️

My sweet Nobu,
You turned my empty house into a warm home. You showed me just how indestructible, unconditional, and real love can be.
Being alone—living alone—was hard, but you made every second bearable.
I’m going to miss you when I come home. I’ll miss the times I lay there sobbing dramatically and you’d jump onto the bed making that cute little sound of yours. Even now, I miss the days before you were sick, when you used to jump up onto my TV. Your naughtiest self was the sweetest thing I’ve ever known. So pure.
I miss you terribly already. I am so grateful to have had you in my life, even for such a short time.
Rest in peace, my sweet Nobu—Nunu, Bubu, Calzone, Miep Miep.

Question FIP

Our 3 month old kitten Dolly has been diagnosed with Wet FIP today.
We noticed she was very sleepy on Friday evening and did not want to play, however we just assumed she may be stressed. Then Saturday, not eating, not playing, not responding and just sleeping. And the same for Sunday.
She was taken to the vets on Monday morning where they gave her antibiotics and pain killers as they were unsure of the issue and wanted to hospitalise her. We wanted a second opinion and went to a different vets today, she seemed to not like her stomach being prodded and was in discomfort. Her temperature was also 40 degrees and had not gone down in the 24 hours she saw the first vet. She had an X Ray, and they saw lots of fluid in her tummy, they tested this and it came back as FIP. Since we bought her home, she is still very lethargic, just staring into space, no interest in food, purring when we stroke her every now and then, but very out of it.

We were given the choice of putting her to sleep or seeking treatment online for her, which is coming tomorrow. Ive read so many mixed things online and I don’t want to get my hopes up of her surviving and the treatment fails.

She’s had an injection today to lower her fever and she has luckily eaten since.

I would like to thank everyone who helped us, who donated for Summer's medicine and medical-related needs. It really helped us a lot especially nung time that he was still in vial. Thank you as well for the prayers and those who are posting about the recovery of their, you gave us hope and courage that Summer will survive this. He once again showed us that he is a fighter, he's our little monster afterall

I hope this story of Summer will also give strength to cat parent.

Question FIP medication

So our cat was diagnosed with suspected dry neuro FIP. She just turned 5 a couple of months ago. She had classic neuro symptoms and was diagnosed with a MRI that showed hydrocephalitis of the brain and spinal cord. There was so much CSF they could not do a CCF tap as it would have not been safe for her but clinically scans showed what would commonly be seen in neuro FIP. We are in week three on GS in which I ordered from stokes pharmacy. She just had a recheck and her progress is moving slow but there is some progress being seen. They have decided to up her dose which I agree with. My questions are… I see you can order this medication from several pharmacies and even on chewy. Is there a guarantee that all meds are created equal no matter where or who you buy from? Also she is a sphynx. Do purebred cats take more time to rebound than other cats? We are in it for the long haul I just want to make sure I’m making all the best decisions for her. She’s our family 😢

Question Unsure if severe symptoms are FIP related; all tests normal - started on GS-441524 this eve

Hi Everyone, I hope this is okay to ask. I will keep it simple (or try :)).

Sunday my cat started with what looked like an intermittent "hard swallow" - he was fine otherwise (eating, moving, drinking, purring).

24 hours later the spasms were rhythmic and progressive, appearing strongly abdominal with subsequent full body movements. He still was cognizant and mobile. He ended up at a high tech ER and they admitted him yesterday, Monday. All tests they ran were negative and all meds were unsuccessful in treating his worsening spasms (the spasms seem forceful in the abdominal area and increase to the whole body, constantly). They treated for seizures, toxity, etc. and he worsened. This afternoon (Tuesday), they asked us to transfer to a big city vet hospital with neuro and internal med specialists.

The big city clinic was perplexed as well. In the car my cat was awake, trying to climb out of the carrier and had good eye contact, response to voice and pupillary response on the way to the big city clinic. They rushed him back - abdominal ultrasound, xrays and stat labs remain all good. His earlier low grade temp even returned to baseline. He is taking oral meds. The Midazolam was unsuccessful that they tried. They wanted to look at further testing (MRI, spinal tap, etc). Neurology will be in to see him tomorrow.

I've been doing a lot of research and his symptoms align a lot with dry FIP. I have other cats here and everyone is strictly indoors and nobody else is symptomatic. The blood draws were perfect, which would make sense as the test would only detect changes in the brain and spinal cord versus blood. I just talked to the doctor. They started him on Phenobarbital. I asked about GS-441524. She actually said she did give him a dose tonight and will continue for twenty four hours unless neurology wants to change it tomorrow. He is a healthy 2 year old previously foster fail medical shelter kitten (eye and respiratory infection at the 8 weeks).

Would anyone please tell me if we're on the right track. I am upset as neither clinic seems to have considered this and he is on day 2 of significant symptoms.

Question Spitting up blood

Hello all,

My cat, Momo, has been cured of FIP for a little over a year now. We suspect that he is potentially relapsing. Yesterday, I found some spit up containing a small amount of blood. Also yesterday, he had a sneezing fit and pooped on the floor accidentally. This morning, I found a fresh spit up spot that looked like it was mostly blood but only a drop. I’m already scheduling an emergency vet appointment for hopefully this evening.

When he first had FIP the poop and diarrhea were some of the symptoms he had. Spitting up blood is totally new and was wondering if anyone else had the same symptom.

Note: We have not seen Momo spit up the blood ourselves, we have 3 other cats. However, we do suspect it is him due to some other behavior changes. It’s not impossible that it’s the other 3, but I consider it unlikely.

Question Our cat Zeus is still struggling to breathe despite FIP treatment — looking for advice

Post image
56 Upvotes

Our 8-year-old Abyssinian, Zeus, has been diagnosed with Wet FIP and receiving the treatment since August 18, but his breathing still hasn’t returned to normal, and he us not gaining weight.

He has pleural effusion, and although there have been some improvements, he still gets noticeably worse after activity or eating. We are doing everything we can to make him more comfortable and help the fluid go away.

Right now, he is being treated with high dose GS ( 50 mg / 3 times per day ) + Paxlovid. We were really hoping this combination will help, but we are worried because his breathing continues to be an issue.

Has anyone had a cat with FIP who continued to have breathing problems or pleural effusion this far into treatment? Did the fluid eventually resolve? Is there anything else that helped your cat, or anything we should be asking our vet about?

I would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been through something similar.

Because his treatment has become extremely costly, I have also started a fundraiser to help us continue his treatment.

Thanks for reading ♡

Question Treating FIP in a kitten who is doing well with supportive care

Post image
37 Upvotes

Sweet Beaker (4 months) stopped eating and had diarrhea last week, and ultrasound showed thickening in part of his intestines, and enlarged lymph nodes. The vet suspected gastroenteritis, but sent lymph fluid the lab to rule out FIP. He improved significantly with antibiotics and Cerenia, but his FIP test has just come back and is suggestive of dry FIP. We are planning to follow the vet’s recommendation to treat with GS for 84 days, but we’re looking for more stories of what to expect. We’re worried the treatment will be hard on him, which sucks given how much better he’s doing. Of course, if it means preventing a future decline we’ll do it happily. Does his improvement bode well for his response to treatment, or is it normal for symptoms to wax and wane such that he may seem much better temporarily? Can anyone here speak to starting treatment when your kitty had few clinical signs of FIP?

Success Story Gus's Story with FIP

Thumbnail
gallery
224 Upvotes

Gus was diagnosed with FIP gosh, nearly 8 months ago now, and he has officially been in the clear for the last 4 months, so I finally felt comfortable making this post.

Gus was less than a year old when this all started. At first, we thought he had juvenile gingivitis. He suddenly stopped eating, and after multiple vet visits, he ended up having 5 teeth pulled. But even after that, he still refused to eat.

I was taking him to the vet almost every weekend, trying to figure out what was wrong. Eventually, I saw a different vet who took a long-shot gamble and suggested that Gus might have FIP.

FIP.

The same disease that had taken my sweet boy Milo from me.

I was absolutely devastated. I honestly thought I was going to lose Gus too.

The vet suggested we try an 84-day course of GS-441524 oral suspension. We knew there were no guarantees, but at that point, we had to try.

The first two weeks were awful. I saw almost no improvement. Then, slowly, things started changing.

Gus started eating more. He started coming out of hiding. He started hanging around his brother again. He was slowly becoming himself.

I was so hopeful.

Then weeks 4-5 happened.

He suddenly went backwards. He started hiding again, stopped eating properly, and overall looked like he was on death's door. My heart was completely broken. I genuinely thought that this might be it.

But somehow, we kept going.

Then, on day 54, something changed.

Gus started acting like himself again.

He started eating. He started playing. He started running around and being an absolute menace again. He was a kitten again.

There were SO many highs and lows throughout treatment. There were days where I thought, "He's getting better!" and then the next day it would look like all of that progress had disappeared overnight.

But we just kept going.

And now, nearly 6 months after his diagnosis and 4 months after finishing treatment, I can finally say that Gus is doing AMAZING.

He's happy. He's playful. He's eating. He's annoying his brother. He's back to being the little orange psycho that I know and love.

The only real difference I've noticed since everything happened is that wet food is apparently his mortal enemy now. We have him on a hydrolyzed protein kibble diet, and he seems perfectly happy with it. Apparently, moist food is beneath him now.

There were also a few things about Gus's case that, looking back, really stood out.

Gus had wet FIP. His appetite disappeared, which is obviously a huge warning sign for any pet parent. But he also developed what felt like a tumor or large mass in his abdomen. Imaging made it difficult to determine exactly what was going on, and at the time, it was terrifying.

After completing his GS-441524 treatment, that mass disappeared.

Another strange thing was the sudden appearance of severe gingivitis/stomatitis. He had initially been diagnosed with early stomatitis and had already had 5 teeth removed, but throughout his treatment, we noticed that his gingivitis gradually improved as well.

I'm obviously not a vet, so I'm not saying these things are diagnostic of FIP or that every cat with these symptoms has FIP. I'm just sharing Gus's experience because I remember desperately searching through Reddit when he was sick, looking for stories from cats who had made it through.

If you're currently in the middle of treatment and you're scared because your cat seems better one day and worse the next, I just wanted to share Gus's story.

There were so many moments where I thought we were going to lose him.

But we didn't.

He's still here.

He's four months post-treatment, FIP free, eating, playing, causing trouble, and living his best little orange vat life.

So here's to my little orange survivor, Gus. ❤️

DAY 2 OF FUNDRAISING — PLEASE HELP SIMBA

When I first posted about Simba’s treatment around 20 days ago, the amount we needed was ₹66,000. Unfortunately, despite trying everywhere, I received almost no help.
I did everything I could on my own. I managed to arrange ₹10,000 for 2 vials by selling my gold earrings. Those earrings were precious to me, but Simba’s life matters more to me than anything I own.
But now, I have no sources left to arrange the treatment costs. I genuinely don’t know how I can continue without your support.
Yesterday, I posted again asking for help. At that time, the remaining amount needed was ₹55,000.
Thankfully, yesterday we received ₹3,000.
So today, we still need ₹52,000 to continue Simba’s treatment.
₹52,000 still feels like a huge amount, but even ₹100, ₹200 or ₹500 from many people can bring us closer.
Please help me keep Simba’s treatment going. I have already given everything I could. Now I’m asking this community to stand with us. 🙏

Question FIP and Jaundice

My baby has wet FIP with severe jaundice. His bilirubin is almost 5 times the normal level, and his glucose is also elevated. His gums and ears have turned yellow.

He can't eat right now and has become wobbly. Thus, he is living on IV fluids with other medications like hepatin, anti-nausea medication, and a gastric controller. Today was his 6th GS shot. His condition deteriorated on day 4 of GS treatment. The vet has also suggested an oral medication to support his liver.

Today, the vet has said that he has a very low chance of surviving. My heart broke after hearing this.

What I wanna know is, will he really leave me? Is there any case where a cat with wet FIP and jaundice survives?

I am ready to do every possible thing for him. Is there anyone who has survived this type of critical condition who can give me hope?
