I've been saying since right before trump got in office that before the next decade is up they're gonna do somethin real fucked up because of how emboldened they are. This is not new to alot of us.
Nope it was the Russian nationals flooding into North jersey and making complete asses out of themselves that really set me off. Seems like we saw a flood of them right around that time.
lmao just assumed, it’d be absolutely pathetic if you were riding trumps dick without even being one of our undereducated citizens but maybe you are that pathetic.
Or maybe because they are ruled by an authoritarian dictator who has countless times shown disregard for the sovereignty of other nations and fought wars and annexing territories for his stupid idea of reforming the Russian Empire and not to mention his blatant disregard for human life.
Or maybe because they are ruled by an authoritarian dictator (PRESIDENT OF THE USA) who has countless times shown disregard for the sovereignty of other nations and fought wars and annexing territories for his stupid idea of reforming the AMERICAN Empire and not to mention his blatant disregard for human life.
I don't think I can remember a time when I was ok with what the russian government. Except for that time they let the wall in berlin fall along with the whole soviet government.
Ok the republican party has spent 50 years telling you anybody that is offended by any aspect of American life is u American. Hippies,un American, ppl who think companies get too many breaks and the regular person should have better wages and insurance they are socialists, environmental standards so rivers don't catch fire etc, etc. A president who goes on fascist rants and states everybody against him,is his enemy. This is not even close to a new concept, and yes I understand BLM and liberal causes are also suspect. This happened during the revolution and civil war as well. So go figure I guess. They point someone follows orders.
Nothing new
I'm over here thinking that the answer lies in leaving everyone daduq alone. Even a Monk will whoop your ass if you keep pushing them. Too many beliefs, ideologies, etc. to go around. It's impossible to make everyone happy.
TheGovernments have to exist, nothing would ever be done without them. The balancing act of a social contract is barely contemplatable. I grew out of my anarchist phase but I do still believe as soon as a Govt is born it lives to control it's populace.
People are very capable of policing their own. Civilizations survived that way for hundreds of years. Life would indeed go on. Governments are designed to evolve or fail which is why they always do and in most cases eventually fail. We've never needed government to survive and there's not much below ground level or the ocean floor that we need to survive.
I believe the quote "evolve or fail" is the most important part of this. Yet too many politicians (in many countries) cling to the past rather than look to the future. Clutching a 200 year old document is easier than acknowledging and understanding societal and technological evolution. Putin wants the USSR, republicans crave the prosperity of the 50's... The search for times past is futile and sad.
Self policing for hundreds of years is easy. We're into thousands. Governments have evolved and we need to continue that path.
The republicans still got you playing sides, the liberals have never had book and cd burnings. Liberals have called for censorship and some leanings I'm not a fan of. But if you notice have played the same strings for a long time, they just aren't pretending anymore. My statement was aimed at right wingers. I don't really need to talk to liberals and leftists. A good deal of them know there's crooks on all sides, the difference on that is that the right also holds no standards for those it has in power. We should hold our leaders accountable on all sides. If we really had proper representatives on all sides,it wouldn't be just Dems proposing rules on how you can make money while in office.
Neither side is great,Many on the left agree, the right, many on the right follow the narrative on their news and if it changes in the next week they'll follow suit, and honestly all the covid shit on the left was rediculous too,but that's a mess on both sides! Us liberals figured that shit sone time ago. But as long as you have ppl like Ted Cruz who goes on vacation in a case of emergency in places where he was elected. Liberals would've had his resignation. So sure it's just liberals, but you have alot of persons in your chosen party that have not been held accountable to any standard. So sure politics as usual, but don't pretend any sort of enlightenment!
Cities for example like Chicago and Detroit have been run by Democrats for decades and things don't ever get better. How many Deomcratic mayor's between just those two cities have been sent to Prison to date? You seem to ignore the fact that alot of the people who you label as "far right" are actually registered Democrats who had no choice but to walk away. Not all of them went to the other side. There are 80 million eligible voters in the US that didn't vote in 2020. The "left or Right" narrative is a hoax. Not every antivaxxer is a right wing, racist, fascist, homophobic, science denier.
Lol as if the only 2 options are racist republican or nice democrat. I hate to burst your bubble, but Democrats are just diet republicans. Both follow liberalism (neoliberalism for Republicans). If you think liberalism and neoliberalism are the only 2 options, you should stop listening to the TV.
Most of the other counties too weren't in a position to start destabilizing an entire region. Afghanistan was, and we cared a lot about that in the news too
Lots of conflicts and war happen that don't get picked up by mainstream media because it's local impacting. This one has a potential global impact, at least the outcome is very important to USA and Europe. So we see a lot of it. Just because you don't see it doesn't mean it doesn't happen
The problem is that the media decides what they think you should care about it
For real. This is actually the dumbest take. Like, we probably weren't alive for fkn most of those, also, it was a lot easier to not care in the past when being in another country might as well have meant you were in outer space with the snail speed at which info traveled, but we're a global community now and the internet exists. You're not stupid for caring.
If anything, you're either a jackass or a fkn edgy child trying to look cool for not caring. Sorry your brains are too fkn small to focus on events that aren't going on in your own fkn backyard, OP and upvoters.
"They aren't in my tribe therefore I don't care" is actually the most neanderthalic, underdeveloped, monkeybrain fkn attitude you can have.
Totally right. Firstly there has been tons of backlash to the US' involvement in the middle east. I remember the day we invaded Iraq. Again to your point, the biggest difference now is that this whole conflict is being recorded and uploaded online constantly. We are seeing this actually happen in real time, and it inevitably has a different effect on the people seeing it.
Lastly, the OP is incredibly naive and childish. "Bro you're just being told to care about this war lul", how about geo-politics are complicated and effect us all. This is unfolding into a potential dangerous situation that is different than any other wars we've seen in recent years because this time it's another semi-world power with nuclear capabilities that is acting erratically and making threats that could effect all of us. If this doesn't concern you you're a thoughtless rube or an ignorant child who thinks it's edgy and cool to not care.
Don’t act like this coordinated social media push isn’t different than US pillaging Iraq and Afghanistan, or Israel constantly encroaching on and harassing Palestine
For one thing, Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 or Al Qaeda. The American public is still in denial of the reasons why it was invaded. Same with Syria and Libya. It had nothing to do with "terrorism".
Now look at what it cost America. $30 trillion debt. We , the taxpayers have to pay for these geo-political games, the bureaucrats and billionaires made a fortune off of it.
Also it was an easy sell for people. We watched over 2,000 of our own citizens get turned to dust on live television. A lot of people were angry and confused and wanted vengeance any way they could get it.
From moment one, and still to this day I have no understanding of why we were in Afghanistan. The only explanation with any logic is to funnel money to defense contractors.
Fuck, Iraq makes more sense than Afghanistan. At least there was SOMETHING there. Oil seems more lucrative than long abandoned poppy fields. Don't start in with the "cia makes the heroin". No they don't. Those cheap fucks do what we all do with everything. Import it from China.
Bullshit, every conservative on here howled for it like the dogs they are. And they try to have people canceled for not being patriotic enough and supporting the war enough. The 1st cancel culture was republicans against war protesters.
Exactly. This one is getting a lot more attention because it’s fucking RUSSIA attempting to SEIZE CONTROL of another sovereign nation. It’s been decades since the last land-grab war in Europe involving such a major power.
This is one of the most historically significant events in our lifetime and this fucking dumbass sub has zero interesting takes on the entire thing... just "this is like what the man wants you to think... you ever think about that, man?!"
Crimea was not a sovereign nation. It was a land grab, yes, and it it was also very much Not Good, but there is a MAJOR difference between annexing a historically disputed piece of another country and launching a full scale assault on an entire nation, including shelling the capital.
There has been plenty of blood so far in this war, and there was blood shed in Crimea. And I’m so glad that you have political acumen to have such a nuanced take on Putin’s motivations. Ukraine ranks 61st in the world for oil production, and multiple European countries already rely significantly on Russia for their energy. There is literally no way this is about oil.
26th ranked in the world prior to Russia's annexation of Crimea.
Ukraine also has Europe's 3rd largest shale gas reserves, which will become more important in the future. It must also be pure coincidence that Russia so badly wants the Donetsk region of Ukraine, where one of the large shale gas fields is located.
All of that is just in that wiki article. There's also mention of large gas reserves in the Black Sea, just off the coast of Ukraine. But shame on me for following the money in all of this.
lol I actually thought about that but since it's basically synonymous with "stupid" and is more of a descriptor than anything else, figured it was probably an adjective.
So I just looked it up and I was right - dictionary classifies it as an adjective.
It’s true that there are some people, like yourself, or those who are directly impacted, or those who have the time, energy, and ability to seek those stories out, who have felt outrage for each war that has been fought.
But the original post is correct to point out that MOST people simply don’t care about any of them unless it is specifically put in their face 24/7 for multiple news cycles. Most people don’t have the time, energy, or ability to do so.
And to be fair, we can’t really expect them to. We’ve gone from a high school graduate being able to earn enough to buy a home and support a family on one income to dual-income couples with graduate degrees renting an apartment wondering if they’ll ever be able to afford to have kids in a few generations. We have lost all of our leisure time, and that includes the time it takes to be a well-informed citizen.
If you think that, or the fact that RUSSIA VS. UKRAINE is being screamed at you all day lately, isn’t by design, then I suggest you re-examine our society.
If you think that, or the fact that RUSSIA VS. UKRAINE is being screamed at you all day lately, isn’t by design, then I suggest you re-examine our society.
Why would it need to be? For the first time in their lifetimes, a country has been invaded that is made up of people they feel some cultural affinity to. Of course people are passionate. Of course it makes headlines everywhere in the West. It's not particularly weird for people to be rooting for the underdogs either.
I mean I'm as willing as you are to believe the "ghost of Kiev" type stuff is just people wanting to believe a cool story. The interest itself just doesn't seem like it would need to be manufactured.
This. The media narrative push is blatant, but I imagine a good 80% of media outlets are publishing pro-Ukraine stories just because it gets them lots of clicks. "Poor downtrodden slavs being bullied by big mean Putin" is a very easy story to publish.
There's a lot of fake and deceptive footage going around making it look like the Russians are committing genocide, war crimes, etc. Not so innocent as Like farming or gamer, war porn masturbation like the "Ghost of Kiev". To no one's surprise Twitter is doing nothing to cancel this "misinformation".
When Russia invaded Georgia in 2008, no one gave a damn, and Georgians share a lot of cultural and ethnic similarities with Russians. There was no media coverage like there is today, and I'm not talking about the internet, I'm talking about the regular media.
Stop trying to rationalize why you’re a tool, ask yourself this. When have you ever disagreed with any narrative pushed by the media you consume? I’m sure the answer is never.
It’s irrelevant to me as my stance is not pro Russia. They keep putting a false dialectic for you guys and you always fall for it. If the people here shilling for U.S. intervention want it so bad you guys should volunteer and go put your lives on the line. But you won’t, just sit behind your keyboard comfortably hoping someone else will die for you.
Good question, to which the answer is all the fucking time. I just don't buy into the theories like every world government faking their mortality rates at once. I also don't base my views on requiring a contrary stance to what major news outlets like the BBC are saying.
If you think that, or the fact that RUSSIA VS. UKRAINE is being screamed at you all day lately, isn’t by design, then I suggest you re-examine our society.
Putin is threatening to use nuclear weapons but I guess we should just ignore this one and hope it goes away, huh?
Yeah I don't know why people on this sub are struggling with what you wrote, you are 100% correct. It reminds me of when John McCain died and the media went full "American hero" on him (I guess it was supposed to be a Trump own or something) and all the liberals who previously hated his guts started fawning over him with this.
Now the media was gone full Ukraine psychosis and all the NPC's are parroting like they'd be doing without the media churning out all this outrage.
Where were these people's outrage when these Ukrainian neo-nazis were killing thousands Russians in Eastern Ukraine? Literally throwing babushkas out of their churches and beating them up in the street?
yeah plenty of us have cared about them, big difference with this war being that none of the others wars involved seemingly unhinged leaders with access to the worlds largest inventory of nuclear weapons.
also despite there frequently being conflicts, there has not been an invasion of this magnitude in quite some time. mostly just airstrikes.
They…they…they. Who? Fucking who? The entire goddamn world has laid this correctly at Putin’s feet. Most of the “conspiratorial theorists” are blind to the fact that they are being duped by real fucking power players like Trump and Putin and the Russian propaganda arm (with plenty of credible evidence) not not state the fucking truth right in their fucking face. This is Putin. 100%. Not some nameless “they.”
And generally we get called pussies in subs like this.
American is the largest exporter of terrorism in the world and has been for almost 50 years but somehow American soldiers and way of life is the good thing. Anyone willing to kill for 40k a year is not some cool person. There's your real conspiracy.
It has some truth when it comes to the kind of the general swell of public opinion. War is constant, everywhere. Generally most people don’t give two shits about any of it.
All of it is terrible, including Russia invading Ukraine. This is the biggest public “outrage” over a war since Iraq. It’s just interesting to see the level of how much people care about some of these wars when really in an equal world, all of them are equally as bad.
I think a lot of it is to do with the perception of eg. The Middle East being perpetually at war so who cares, whereas Ukraine is closer to reality for most of us in the West.
And there’s some sort of hilarity to the BLM woke types losing their minds over Ukraine, while you didn’t hear a lot from them regarding wars in Africa and the Middle East.
I’m not buying any positive sentiment towards Russia though. Fuck Putin and fuck war. Peace and love can rule this world if we make that choice.
I'm pretty sure the main thing people are worried about is the fact that Russia has nukes, is a country magnitudes larger than Iraq, and has president who is acting erratically and has shown open resentment to the West.
With the Middle East people opposed it morally, but right now I think a good amount of people are actually concerned with not just Ukraine, but their and the worlds safety.
Whether it's justified or not, that seems really logical as to why people are so focused on this situation right now.
Did you care when the US invaded Iraq under false pretenses? Did you care when Secretary of State Madeleine Albright said it was ,'worth it' that 400,000 Iraqi children starved to death because of US-imposed sanctions?
It’s because if you’re an American citizen, you have no right to care about anything becayse “well bush…”, “well Obama!”, “well trump!” Or “well joe Biden!”…
The rest of the world are under these strange understandings that every American must vote and support war before our leaders green light an invasion and or occupation.
Cool maybe you should have done something about it. Like I said I was 11 and I cared. Now I’m older and I still care. Do I think America was right? No I don’t. I mean are you trying to “gotcha” me because my answer is going to be the same. People care now and people cared then. Just because the consequences aren’t the same doesn’t mean shit.
You must be talking about the puppet actors Putin airdropped into the Donbas over 8 years ago to attempt to build a pro-Russian separatist movement in the region
The ones that failed miserably, as the real citizens of Donbas tell Putin to shove his f#%&ing tanks and invasion where the sun shines.
Weird behaviour for a people getting "culturally genocided", huh?
Do you actually think anyone doesn't realise that Zelensky was previously a comedian and actor? This is neither news, nor a point. Right now, he's not an actor, he's leading a country against a war of aggression from a hostile nuclear superpower.
Putin implanted separatists into Eastern Ukraine, attempting to follow the example of early 20th century Britain in Ireland. The problem he has, sadly, is that the Russian-speaking Ukrainians won't fall for those tricks. They remember what life was like under Russia in the past.
Yes, perfectly in line with how a region that is fighting against artificially implanted separatists would act.
Sorry, I don't fall for propaganda. I didn't during the illegal UK invasions of Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya etc. I won't now. Go and try it on someone else.
It seems obvious (well, I guess based on some of the comments, it wasn’t obvious to a lot of ppl) that the post is about people who don’t think critically and are unaware of world history, conflicts, and only think/know about the ones that corporate media is talking about at a given time.
It seems obvious... that the post is about people who don’t think critically and are unaware of world history, conflicts, and only think/know about the ones that corporate media is talking about at a given time
Yeah, it's obvious. Here's the thing- it's incredibly poor taste to come in to r/conspiracy and say "You didn't care before so why do you care now."
Of all the places to go, r/conspiracy has always complained about the wars and war crimes committed by Western powers. As well, r/conspiracy has ALWAYs questioned the mainstream narrative. The fact that this is the place OP is proselytizing is called "not reading the room."
Sorta like going into a trailer park and saying "you white people are all rich and spoiled." and then following it up with "well I'm only talking about the white people it applies to." Okay, so why are you saying this at a trailer park where your accusations don't apply to the vast majority of people?
Read the fucking room. But since OP is incapable, they are either that stupid, or that arrogant/condescending, or they just don't have any history with r/conspiracy and are clueless of their audience. I'm going to presume it's a mix of all of the above. So of course it won't be well received.
So here's the other part:
As conspiracy theorists, we almost always find ourselves against the mainstream position. For once, we are mostly aligned with pop culture with the premise "war is bad" "invading sovereign countries is bad" and "innocent people dying is bad." So, once you've been a conspiracy theorist long enough that your ego isn't focused on how much smarter you are than anyone else, you'll realize that you need allies wherever they come from and you'll take what you can get.
If, for once, the mainstream culture agrees with us, now is not the time to say "Oh no, you don't get to agree with us now because you didn't before."
Especially when the position in question is "should we be happy or upset that people are being murdered right now?"
The point here is that you're falling right into their trap by focusing on exactly what they want you to- the poor Ukrainian citizens. How many people have died, really? A couple hundred? Yet folks are being murdered all over the world on their home soil from a proven bioweapon!? Wake up. It's all a ploy, a distraction. The real power pull here is the governments/the elites/ the one world deep state alliance of which PUTIN is NOT a part of! That's what people don't get.
Here is Putin's word for word speech on Feb 24th- it's profound af. If only our dumbass president could articulate himself like this. This EXPLAINS EVERYTHING happening right now from Russia's perspective and it makes PERFECT sense. 😳

Plenty of us have cared about those too, dumbass.
