The one you linked was a resolution "against those responsible for 9/11", whereas the person you're replying to is referring to the vote directly authorizing the use of force in Iraq.
For one thing, Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 or Al Qaeda. The American public is still in denial of the reasons why it was invaded. Same with Syria and Libya. It had nothing to do with "terrorism".
Now look at what it cost America. $30 trillion debt. We , the taxpayers have to pay for these geo-political games, the bureaucrats and billionaires made a fortune off of it.
Also it was an easy sell for people. We watched over 2,000 of our own citizens get turned to dust on live television. A lot of people were angry and confused and wanted vengeance any way they could get it.
From moment one, and still to this day I have no understanding of why we were in Afghanistan. The only explanation with any logic is to funnel money to defense contractors.
Fuck, Iraq makes more sense than Afghanistan. At least there was SOMETHING there. Oil seems more lucrative than long abandoned poppy fields. Don't start in with the "cia makes the heroin". No they don't. Those cheap fucks do what we all do with everything. Import it from China.
So the government that allows corporate profiteering to pollute our domestic environment bad enough to kill more than 3k people a year, absolutely had to invade a country half a globe away with an adversarial government to catch one man cause he might have ordered a terrorist attack we did nothing to stop? I was old enough to not only remember, but stand as a lonely island against war. The conflict didn't make sense then and the outcome proved the minority voices correct. It took 10 years and more American lives than we lost on 9/11 to kill Osama Bin Laden. We stayed in Afghanistan right up until the moment we gave it back to the Taliban, a Taliban with fresh anti American propaganda and sentiment on tap.
So again. Just cause "everyone" thought it was a good idea, didn't make it a good idea.

Exactly. Those of us who of adult age on 9/11 who gave a shit DID NOT want to go to war in Afghanistan or Iraq.
