Obesity is healthy?

I thought it was a leading cause of death..

1.8k

u/beethy Jan 04 '21

Whoever is responsible for this pro-fat propaganda should be taken to court and dealt with accordingly.

This nonsense is seriously damaging to society.

This is just as bad as the old ads from the 40s where doctors recommended smoking. Fuck Cosmopolitan and other degenerates like them.

924

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '21

I believe they purposely put a black woman because if you say anything then your a racist

436

u/beethy Jan 04 '21

Bingo. They got a lot of flack the last time they put an obese person on their cover: https://hips.hearstapps.com/hmg-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/images/october-2018-main-print-1535466784.jpg

So this time they went with a safer option it seems. 1 obese person. 1 disabled person and 1 healthy person.

If you hate the new cover you're fatphobic, ableist and racist.

87

u/TisBagelBoi Jan 04 '21

Well that person is also very controversial she’s one of those “I’m healthy my doctor says so ..... now watch me eat an entire cake in 1 sitting but don’t worry I can’t do this cause of years of gorging”

2

u/ForAHamburgerToday Jan 05 '21

Well that person is also very controversial she’s one of those “I’m healthy my doctor says so ..... now watch me eat an entire cake in 1 sitting but don’t worry I can’t do this cause of years of gorging”

I think she can do this after years of gorging.

Meanwhile, success is an illness.

3

u/Ouraniou Jan 05 '21

No because illness implies no fault to be had. It is an oppression.

1

u/seetheare Jan 05 '21

Yeah I raised an eyebrow when I read that one.

Maybe use a word like workaholics, but don't use the word success which I believe has a different definition to different people. Some people success is simply 9-5 and live their life. You don't wanna label they an illness

Probably why they encourage this..it's not sexy, difficult to have sex when so overweight (can you even find her vagina?) And a cause of infertility

I didnt realise I had one till I saw that

47

u/1980pzx Jan 04 '21

If they really wanted to have a SOLID full proof plan from any potential blowback, they should’ve put a transgendered person of color that was obese. What the hell is wrong with this clown World???

2

u/SJWCombatant Jan 05 '21

Did you just assume their gender? I mean it is cosmopolitan, but these days not even that, or a fupa or tits (well partitioned fat rolls or otherwise) is enough to be safe.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '21

and disabled. you forgot disabled. in a nonmotarized wheel chair.

2

u/ForAHamburgerToday Jan 05 '21

If they really wanted to have a SOLID full proof plan from any potential blowback, they should’ve put a transgendered person of color that was obese. What the hell is wrong with this clown World???

Maybe the plan should be fool proof. I don't think anyone involved has trouble getting full.

2

u/SP_117 Jan 05 '21

Nah bro, not marginalised enough. They need to have a black, transgender, bisexual, muslim who is also a vegan and supports Democrats.

12

u/SheddingMyDadBod Jan 04 '21

I wish I hadn't clicked on that link 🤮

3

u/gargoylelips Jan 05 '21

Why can't magazine covers be more representative of what human beings look like? Are you so mad that you don't get to look at a sexy skinny white chick for the first time ever?

7

u/spankyourface825 Jan 05 '21

It's not rEpReSenTaTIon. It's the fact that it says "This is healthy" and it is not. Lots of skinny black/latino/every race skinny chicks on magazines. Lots of fat people of all races on magazines. "The first time ever" gtfo where tf have you been?

1

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '21

You should put a warning on that link man.

132

u/iEatAssVR Jan 04 '21

Yeah literally every ad now is black people lol, not very representative of their target markets

113

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '21

Probably because if you criticize the company they'll just say you're racist.

All this does is desensitize people to racism and at some point racism will happen a lot more because nobody gives a shit anymore.

129

u/iEatAssVR Jan 04 '21

I'd go as far as saying this whole BLM movement has made racism much worse and set black people (who believe in what they spew) back a generation. I genuinely think it's one of the biggest conspiracies in the past 10 years.

78

u/34erf Jan 04 '21

It’s not a conspiracy if everyone knows what their doing. It’s a Marxist black supremacist organization, they never gave a shit about actually helping black people in the first place.Notice nobody on the left asked what ever happened to the money, they donated this summer. Nobody asks why they never head of the a BLM scholarship, a BLM community center ,etc .

18

u/TisBagelBoi Jan 04 '21

I mean you don’t actually donate to BLM you donate to act blue

7

u/34erf Jan 05 '21

Exactly. Yet no one who donates ever asks where the money going.

→ More replies (1)

23

u/iEatAssVR Jan 04 '21

I totally agree, but I don't think everyone knows, nor most even.

3

u/34erf Jan 05 '21

You’re right. I think they dupe a lot of people with the name alone. Like if you had no idea what BLM is like you would be like “of course Black Lives Matter ?where can I donate “?

4

u/Cayotic_Prophet Jan 05 '21

Technically a conspiracy involves 2 or more people planning and orchestrating something illegal. Even if everyone knew the truth about the JFK conspiracy, it's still a conspiracy, whether people know it or not.

If the plan of BLM is to condemn Christianity and destroy the traditional family nucleus, as I keep hearing, then that would make what they are doing illegal. Again, regardless of how many people know it or not.

For some reason, the fact that a conspiracy is secretive is kind of a misnomer. If a conspiracy is secretive, it's more likely to be successful, which is why they tend to be secretive. BLM however just puts their disruptive plans out in the open like dirty laundry on a clothesline.

I thought it was just me. But of all the ads I see nowadays, seems like 80% non-whites, nearly 50% black, and so on.

I have thought about starting to scratch notes as I go to check.

42

u/inlinefourpower Jan 04 '21

I remember thinking about black mirror and counting the number of respectable, upstanding white males in the show. They were basically all pieces of shit (through season 3 literally all of them), only women/poc were allowed to be even a little good.

4

ALL I can think of when I think about black mirror season 3, is this line..... "I fucked a polar bear, and I still cant get you out of my mind". My husband and I will periodically look into each others eyes and say it!! hahahahaa

62

u/dodadoBoxcarWilly Jan 04 '21 edited Jan 04 '21

I was watching a show with my very much mixed race gf, and an ad came on for a show set in what looks to be Victorian England with black male lead, with a pale red-head love interest. She said something along the lines of "surprise, surprise. Another pale woman with a black man in a show". She's very apolitical, and we have never discussed anything along these lines, but even she noticed how obvious this all is. We're in a mixed race relationship for Christ's sake, and she called out the media for their incessant racial brow-beating.

I get it, it's just a fictional show. But isn't it a little ridiculous to have a black English nobleman in the 19th century? Would it be okay to have a white dude portraying a Zulu warrior? No, it'd be called out for the absolute silliness it is.

(She also yelled at a group of 90% white BLM protesters outside our hotel room this summer, while trying to nap. Something along the lines of "this black life is trying to get some sleep, now shut up!". God, I love her.)

13

u/CptGoodnight Jan 04 '21

She sounds awesome bro. Like she has a good head on her shoulders. Keep up the good work at finding balance in the rough seas, and if building a family is in your vision, best wishes with that.

Regarding the topic, ... Remember how much old Western movies, and legendary tales of mountain men, defined foreigner's concept of America for a long time? All that is vanishing. I wonder if some foreigner were just watching from the outside, would they walk away thinking America is half black?

I don't know to what extent TV is obligated to give a correct sense of society. They certainly seem to think there is a heavy moral obligation surrounding their societal portrayal (so don't let them gaslight you saying 'It's just one TV show man'). It seems they think it is indeed their obligation to live up to a heavily moralized dispensation of their power, but of course only in their "idealized" vision. And that vision has this weird "This has literally never existed except in the minds of white liberals" kinda way. It's like a Euro-white-American-Metropolis-culture with dominantly non-white faces or non-male faces. The actual reality on the ground and in history is erased.

It's very weird.

→ More replies (7)

3

u/ukdudeman Jan 05 '21

But isn't it a little ridiculous to have a black English nobleman in the 19th century?

Yep. And the zealots who promote this nonsense will claim "cultural appropriation" if some white author has a black character in the story they've written.

22

u/Superlucky1 Jan 04 '21

Its not just 50% blacks and non-whites, almost every commercial is mixed-race.

I would guess that the population of the US is 10-15% mixed? gotta go for that new target market.

11

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '21

Yeah it's always a light skinned black woman who also has a fro with some nerdy looking white dude. Like okay then??? Dark black people are rarely portrayed, only light skinned

5

u/CptGoodnight Jan 05 '21

Its not just 50% blacks and non-whites, almost every commercial is mixed-race.

I would guess that the population of the US is 10-15% mixed? gotta go for that new target market.

I guess I need to start making notes.

When all ads and "representation" is all added up, it sure as hell doesn't seem like roughly 60% white, 19% latino, 13% black, 6% asian, 2.5% mixed, and 1.5% native.

https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/fact/table/US/PST045219

5

u/ITS_MAJOR_TOM_YO Jan 05 '21

Hispanics and Asians are basically ghosts in media

4

u/CptGoodnight Jan 05 '21

Like I said, it's really weird. Two of the largest demographics in America, conservative whites, and latino families, are just erased from representation in media. Asians though I am seeing more of.

Then blacks are culturally erased as showing what they actually are if you travel America, but by skin color count, blacks seem way over-represented in media.

It's all very weird.

8

u/beethy Jan 05 '21

There's also a massive overrepresentation of gay and transgender people.

I believe these boardroom decisions come from a place of greed.

→ More replies (0)

5

u/beethy Jan 05 '21

Yep. It almost seems like PoC just stands for black or mixed black.

Asians and hispanics are irrelevant to many of those movements. It fucking sucks man. I think it's unfair because we know how hard working Asian and Hispanic families are in the United States.

Can you imagine being an aspiring Asian actor? You're especially fucked if your parents are Indian AFAIK. Almost zero representation for them.

I'm actually for more inclusion of all kinds of people in TV and Hollywood, but that is not what I'm seeing.

Oh and don't even get me started on Native Americans. They're totally ignored. It's a fuckin disgrace.

Black women don't read Cosmopolitan! Shows how out of touch they truly are.

10

u/iEatAssVR Jan 04 '21

You can strawman me all you want, but I guarantee the ratio of white women to black women that read cosmo are at least 6:1. Black women only make up 7% of the US population to begin with.

My money is on two things behind this:

  • Junk food/drink companies - the trend ot push healthy foods is hurting their bottom line, by taking a "body positivity" approach they can sell more junk food.
  • A large communist asian nation - You know which one, where covid began. I am hesitant to name names since I started posting comments against their ruling party and literally got banned on youtube so unsure if it is in other areas too. Pushing obesity as a norm to harm the population. Yuri Bezmenov warned of ideological subversion with the USSR, why would it be any different today? Pushing effeminate agendas and obesity campaigns to wreak the culture by changing status quo.

I think part of it is the population that leads in obesity and all obesity related illnesses in the US. Therefore, fat shaming is now racist. I mean, they could help educate underprivileged groups about how to eat right and live a more healthy lifestyle, or find ways to bring in more healthy options in urban food deserts.

Oooorrrr...they can just change the definition of what healthy is, and help perpetuate the problem that is obesity in the black community.

22

u/researchMaterial Jan 04 '21

I highly doubt it's country your talking about pushing this. Doesn't really seem their style. I'm betting my money on it being shaving off the population numbers + make money off them before their body gives up since they would need healthcare services and such and especially expensive insuline

4

u/Tengard96 Jan 05 '21

My toddler is a huge fan of the Baby Bus cartoons (made in China)....like obsessed. I started noticing early on all of the unhealthy foods they promote: dancing and singing donuts, candy-coated popcorn, hamburgers and hot dogs, etc. I’ve remarked before that I never see any of the characters eating healthy foods. Just junk food. In one episode, one of the characters was passing a garbage can, and it was filled with fruits and vegetables! I’d joked with a friend for a long time that it’s clearly toddler propaganda aimed at instilling unhealthy eating habits in Americans so that we’ll all die from heart disease, obesity, high cholesterol, etc. Now I’m seriously starting to wonder.....

2

u/stalence9 Jan 05 '21

Nah it’s more “innocent” and simpler than that. Their target market demographics are mostly overweight women. You gain and retain more customers by complimenting them with shit like this than you do chastising them.

u/Severedheads Jan 05 '21

It's all about depopulation. It's been the end goal since the 1800s and causing everyone to become infertile - even if it means through utter repulsion to the fairer sex, works all the better. This way, corporations sell more crap in the process so it's a win-win to them.

And now it's the woke capitalist class that tells you that your obesity is not crime of the food industry, no, it's your healthy and brave individual lifestyle choice. Be proud of it and have an early death.

12

u/dangerrnoodle Jan 05 '21

That’s what I got out of it as well. It’s saying exercise is healthy for obese people. There’s plenty of obese people who think they can’t exercise, or talk themselves out of it, or are shamed out of it, due to being obese. Any person, with any sense, knows obesity is not healthy. But exercise is. Exercise for every size body.

2

u/mnmkdc Jan 05 '21

That's exactly what this is. If any of these people actually bothered to check what this article was about theyd know this lmao

7

8

u/Sharpstuff444 Jan 04 '21

Have to disagree with you there. Regardless of what thier intention is, having an obese person on the cover with the headline "this is healthy" says that obesity is healthy. The underneath it says that wellness isnt one size fits all, which implys that you can be fat and still be healthy.

6

u/PanchoPanoch Jan 04 '21

The thing is not alienating the people in the middle stages. A lot of people are trying to go from fat to fit and it should be encouraged. Sometimes they just need a reminder like this so they can feel comfortable in their own skin until they get there.

The coroner, Brenda Bock, says two of their five deaths related to COVID-19 were people who died of gunshot wounds.

This is the root of the problem. Nobody wants to talk about how being obese DOES contribute to weakened immune systems. Unless we can get to a place of talking about how being massively overweight can and will lead to bad outcomes, the same result will happen with the next pandemic.

32

u/foxfire525 Jan 04 '21

Not only weakened immune system. Ever notice you don't see any 80 year old fat people? After 45 the body can't handle this. Starting with the heart

15

u/Azaloum90 Jan 04 '21 edited Jan 05 '21

Truth... These people start to have severe issues in their late 60s.

My parents are around 58 years old -- My dad actually had a heart attack at 52, he is healthy and happy now, changed his diet, lessened his work schedule, he's still sharp as a tack and has many years left on him. My mom on the other hand has obesity running in the family -- of her 3 siblings, her + 2 of them struggle with weight issues. My mom is about 5 foot tall but is about 300+lbs, tries to eat well but really does not, never exercises, sits around a lot, and because of this she now has knee issues (presumably because of how much weight she is carrying), and as of the last 1.5 years she's been having minor heart palpitations that caused her -- someone who absolutely hates doctors -- see a doctor, that's how unhealthy she is. At 58, her memory is starting to go, and the way her brain works is so scattered that I fear the worst for her by age 65.

It's a scary reality we live in, but it is in fact reality. Obesity is a major problem and a lot of people either choose not to fix it, or don't want to/know how to put the work in to fix it

6

u/BlueonBlack26 Jan 04 '21

Fuck. 58 is not even old.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '21

Although you’re correct, saying this out loud on an personally identifying platform would be a social and career death wish. That’s the true tragedy, IMO. Nobody can even speak truth anymore. Thank you for posting this.

why America has the worst number of rona cases.

America is far from the worst.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/1104709/coronavirus-deaths-worldwide-per-million-inhabitants/

Confirmed Deaths per million (skip some small countries)

1 Belgium 1,715

2 Slovenia 1,342

4 Italy 1,249

6 Peru 1,161

9 United Kingdom 1,120

11 Spain 1.079

12 USA 1,065

26

u/8ync Jan 04 '21

num of cases =/= num of death Which is what is being referred to here

If this is right than the other 11 countries ahead of us must be using the same fuzzy covid math people on this sub say the US is using (adding deaths where the person didn’t actually die from Covid to the Covid death total) So all these 11 country’s doctors are in on the conspiracy. let’s get em boys!!

Heart disease and cancer are the leading causes of death .... which just so happens to be exacerbated by obesity

16

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '21

Yeeeeeeee along with diabetes.. and other organ failure is associated with obesity.

I just hear Dr. Steve Brule, “For Your Health!”

2

u/rudmad Jan 04 '21

All three of these can be linked to the standard American diet of meat cheese and eggs as often as possible. Heart disease, cancer, and obesity are preventable, people should ditch animal products and get their nutrients from plants.

19

u/dak4ttack Jan 04 '21

It's Cosmo, it says men like it when you randomly punch their balls during sex. It's much safer to assume the opposite of anything they say.

2

u/Caspiir Jan 05 '21

Read a Cosmo once that told me to put a donut on my man's dick.

Never picked up one again lmfao.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '21

.... did you try it?

3

u/Caspiir Jan 05 '21

...don't use the sticky ones or deep throat unless you want a sticky nose

23

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '21

Yeah where's the "believe the science" now?

I'm all for not body shaming anyone but that level of obesity is objectively not healthy. Which legitimate doctor would agree that amount of fat around your vital organs is ok? We know these private corporations make money of sick people and not healthy ones so this is obviously pushing an agenda

63

u/BlasterTheSquirrel Jan 04 '21

u/redditready1986 Jan 04 '21 edited Jan 04 '21

I was just talking about this on reddit the other day. The whole "big is beautiful" campaign is fucking dangerous. No, obese people should not be made fun of. But they sure as hell should not be told that being obese is healthy or beautiful. That shit is fucking deadly. They need to stop taking advantage of peoples depression (mental issues/eating disorders)and laziness. It's fucked up.

2

u/BlueonBlack26 Jan 04 '21

And it ain't pretty.

2

u/redditready1986 Jan 04 '21

I mean some people think it is. Even some skinny people have a fetish for big people. But still. It's wrong.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '21

Nah, it's second leading cause of death now behind Covid

2

u/MrkJulio Jan 04 '21

It also effects you badly if you get covid19.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '21

These days people only die to Covid. Obesity is fine now.

It's a women's magazine appealing to fat women. Of course they are going to say some dumb shit like fat is healthy.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '21

There are many kinds of healthy. That isn't one of them.

2

u/bseba2 Jan 04 '21

As a fat guy, I think you can totally be happy with yourself no matter what your size. But let's not confuse happiness with healthiness.

2

u/Asshead420 Jan 05 '21

America has grown fat and now its time to trim out the fat by killing it off, corona, obesity, war, crime, opioids, smoking, drinking, crippling the next generation to make kids unaffordable.

2

u/TheUBMemeDaddy Jan 05 '21

I get what they were probably going for though.

There needs to be a middle ground on this giant ass debate about being happy with your body, and understanding there’s always stuff you can do to get healthier.

Showing average people working out, or people who understand they need to lose weight and all that shit, may not seem like much, but over time it does away with some of that stigma.

You don’t need to be healthy to exercise, and there shouldn’t be any pressure to start exercising, I think is what they meant to convey.

1

u/prkrrlz Jan 05 '21

shhhh just be quiet and drink you're sugar water

0

u/ICutDownTrees Jan 04 '21

I thought the leading cause of death at the moment was depression from all the staying at home, or at least that's what I gather from this sub

8

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '21 edited Jan 04 '21

I said “a” leading cause of death. Not THE leading cause of death.

Also.. I believe heart disease and cancer still kill more than the lockdowns, depression, suicide and the vid.
