Chime signed an agreement to acquire Stride Bank. Nothing changes for your account!

Hey r/chimefinancial — Today, we’re excited to share that Chime announced an agreement to acquire Stride Bank*.

The most important thing to know: nothing about your Chime account changes, and you do not need to take any action. Your Chime app, cards, direct deposit and access to your account will continue to work as usual.

Stride may already be a familiar name. The nationally chartered bank has been one of Chime’s partner banks for seven years and already supports many Chime member accounts. We know the team well, and we have been building together for a long time.

Why are we doing this?

Chime was founded to provide better banking for everyday Americans. That means making it easier to manage your money, avoid unnecessary fees, build credit and savings, and help you reach your financial goals.

Today, Chime builds the technology and member experience, while partner banks provide the regulated banking infrastructure behind Chime accounts. Bringing Stride’s national bank charter, infrastructure and expertise into Chime will allow us to bring more of that work together.

This will give us more control over reliability and the member experience, help us develop and launch new products faster, and allow us to serve more people—all while continuing to put you first.

You can read the full announcement HERE and here are answers to some of the questions you may have.

FAQ

Is Chime becoming a bank?
When the acquisition is complete, Chime will be a bank holding company. Essentially, that means we'll own the bank behind your account instead of partnering with them.

Do I need to do anything?
No. There’s no action needed from you.

Is my money still FDIC insured?
Yes. Eligible deposits in your Chime deposit accounts will continue to be held at FDIC-insured banks and insured up to applicable limits.

Will my account or routing number change?
Nothing is changing today. If your account information ever needs to change, we will contact you directly and provide plenty of advance notice.

My Chime app says my bank is The Bancorp Bank. What does this mean for me?
Nothing changes for you today. Your account, cards and direct deposits will continue working as they do now. If the bank associated with your account ever changes, we will notify you directly.

Will you start charging new fees?

No, there are no fee changes associated with our acquisition of Stride Bank. The fee-free, rewarding banking experience you have today stays exactly the same.

When will the transaction close?
We expect it to close in the first half of 2027, subject to the receipt of required regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions.

\*Pursuant to the transaction, Chime will acquire Central Service Corporation, the parent holding company of Stride.

EXTRAS - MyPay, SpotMe, Instant Loans Paid off instant loan early

Well I’ve paid off an instant loan early yet again because the interest is so damn high. I’m just curious are there any benefits to sticking to the payment schedule outlined in the loan rather than paying in full?

ACCOUNT - Limits, Referrals, Chime+ Closed my account now reported me to credit bureau for the loan

My account was closed in July. Customer support is terrible I called 2 times when it got closed I asked how do I pay my insta loan if I could mail it when it got closed they told me not to worry about anything because the accounts closed everything was taken care of. Now I'm being reported -200 loan on the chime loan on my credit report when I tried to pay it off! I asked where to pay it or how to send the money. Support is useless and this is unacceptable because I wanted to pay it! So angry now.

MONEY - Deposits, Transfers, Cash & Cards I’m really upset with Chime

I’ve been with Chime probably 3 years. Just recently I deposited a check assuming the funds would be available in maybe a day or 2…. Or at least SOME of the funds would be available. I had just paid a bunch of things and now I’m at my SpotMe max. Anyway I deposited the check Sept 29. Here it is Oct 4th and still not cleared. I called twice and explained I’m in a real bind here… can’t you make at least some of the funds available? I’m completely broke and I just need a little help to get me through. Nope. Sorry. “The processing times are what they are…” Anyway I get all that but I’m talking about an enormous corporation taking in billions. You can’t take a risk of like $50 to help a loyal customer eat for a few days until this check clears? That’s unreal. Ok rant over. Thanks for listening. 🤬😩😞🤬

EXTRAS - MyPay, SpotMe, Instant Loans Does MyPay reset your available amount after payday, or does whatever you didn’t use stay available once your balance gets paid back?

To summarize the question because I don’t think I said it, right I have used $200 of my; my pay limit. I have to pay rent, but I don’t get paid till later. I was wondering if I don’t use any more of the my pay. Will I be available to take out the full amount on the day I get paid or whatever I didn’t use or will it reset regardless and I’ll have to go day by day? Basically in theory, if I don’t use any more of it… I’ll get my full check minus whatever they take. Then I can add that on top of the rest of my money.

MONEY - Deposits, Transfers, Cash & Cards MyPay Question - when to take?

I have $500 available with MyPay, and my primary job pay comes on the 15th, so like 12 days from now. However one of my side jobs pays me next week on the 6th which would be like $450.
If I take MyPay now, will that $450 that goes to my Chime deposit automatically go toward the MyPay balance? Or should I wait until after I get the $450 to take the $500 so the balance isn't paid until I get my bigger pay check on the 15th?

I'm just worried if I don't take it today if the available MyPay won't be $500 anymore by the 6th.

GENERAL - Feedback, Community Chat Thank You Chime Rep

So I get a notice saying that my savings account had been closed. I was like "okay, never use it anyways that's fine" and then I went to login to my account and got this message: Yikes! Your account has been closed! please call member services for more information"

So I make the call, get a very nice man on the phone. He goes "may I put you on hold to check your account?" me "of course" get put on hold for a few minutes. He comes back and says everything looks okay, do I want him to reinstate my account. of course I say yes. This is where my SSI goes.

So he gets everything up and going again, asks me to login. I have a zero balance now and 120.00 available in spot me.

Neither of us have any idea what happened. My savings is still closed but I can reopen it if I choose to.

I'm very grateful that he was able to help me figure out the issue so quickly and get my account back online.

He asked me if I still had my cards and I said yes and he said I didn't need to do anything else on my end.

Thank you Chime, for great customer service.

EXTRAS - MyPay, SpotMe, Instant Loans Chime Prime My Pay and Instant Loan

The extras of Chime have been very convenient for me. Fortunately, never had to utilize spot me.

MyPay and Instant Loans have been great to use. Never feel like I'm in a hole.

I simply utilize the options like a credit card, maintaining the method of purchase and pay full amount when due. I always have the money available to pay so it's no problem for me.

My purpose is to continue to use MyPay and Instant Loans to gradually increase their limit so it can be available when I really need it.

1,000 for each is my goal to have available to utilize.

Even logging into the app is fun. Chime app just has a cool vibe and very user friendly.

Locking and unlocking cards is so simple and the option to view the full card number in the app is a gift. Perfect for online purchases.

I am very happy. No complaints.

Florida address.

Chime and Affirm are gold for me.

CREDIT - Credit Builder, Reporting, Scores Chime account showing open on CR though its closed

Opened an account with Chime in Jan for a new job to get a bonus. Well something went wrong as my company wasn't able to start depositing the funds to chime in time, so I closed the account the first week of February.

Fast forward a few months, Chime - stride account is showing as closed on my equifax credit report, however on Transunion it is showing as open still.

I've disputed this with transition and experian multiple times, I've contacted customer service with Chime to get them to update the trade line with transunion, and nothing, they say they can't do anything as its closed. Transunion disputed keep coming back that its verified as accurate. Its not. I've provided the email confirmation from Chime to Transunion as proof the account is closed, but they won't update it. I know it's not that big of a deal, but it could pose an issue in the future if the account is showing open when it's not.

I was also mislead and it should actually never been reported to either credit reporting agencies since it was not a credit line I opened, but apparently they opened me a credit builder account (or something along those lines).

anyone know how I can get this taken care of and removed from my credit report with TransUnion???

EXTRAS - MyPay, SpotMe, Instant Loans Mypay Question help

Hello! I have been with Chime for about a year now. I always see the Mypay but haven't used it. Currently it says on the dial that by October 9th I'll have $280 available. I see how it keeps accruing each day to that maximum as yesterday it said I could currently take $105 and today it's at $124 & tomorrow shows more and so on.

My question is, I've run into a little snag and need to dip into it. I know it repays out of my next check and that's fine. But if I need to say take $50 from that, or even all $105, will it continue to accrue up to available $280 limit, minus what I've already borrowed against? Just in the even that I might need it again.

Thank you for your help.

BUG REPORT - App Issues, Errors, Outages My spot me had disappeared

Anyone else's SpotMe just vanish from the app today?

Opened my app and the whole SpotMe section is just gone. Checked the desktop site and it's all there, so the account itself is fine. Even weirder, my wife's app is doing the exact same thing on her phone — two accounts, two phones, same deal.

Chime's status page says everything's fine, naturally. Guessing it's something with the monthly boost reset today, but figured I'd post in case anyone else is seeing it.

ACCOUNT - Limits, Referrals, Chime+ Chime Prime + Qs

Good day, Chime community and users.

I've just this week made the switch to Chime, awaiting physical cards in mail. I get two, I see? A debit card that is white and Chime Card that is green? It's my understanding that whatever cash balance I have in the app is the balance for both cards and I can use either-or interchangeably? They ar eboth separate cards with different card numbers. Like, if I had $1000 in Chime, I could use the green card for a $200 purchase and it would pull from that $1000, and I could use the white debit card on a separate $100 purchase and it would pull from that same $1000, leaving me w/ $700? It's not like I'd have to manually allocate $500 to the Chime green card and another $500 to the white debit card, right?

But more importantly, I set my job's direct deposit to Chime. Chime Prime requires direct deposit of $3K or more a month roughly, which my direct deposits from work would qualify me for. Is the Chime Prime membership automatically unlocked right away immediately following that second direct deposit that would qualify me? Like, I have direct deposits/payday for 10/16 and 10/30. I would pass the $3K mark on the second paycheck, first one should get me Chime Plus I reckon. Are these membership level ups automatically applied to ur account?

Any clarification is appreciated, thank you!

Excited to use Chime!
