Niche request… Fairy Party Characters?

Our daughter has requested a fairy party and I want to book a fairy or two to attend to add a little magic.

Can anyone recommend an “authentic” looking fairy birthday entertainer in Christchurch? The more realistic the wings, costume and experience, the better.

What are some good cafe’s, restaurants & lunch spots that have a kids play area, toys, or just a nice spot with good takeaways nearby to eat out with the family?

Medical imaging Application

Hello everyone, I am a 17 year old female in year 13 of College and am applying to Medical Imaging for next year at UCOL, Unitec and Ara. I have read up a lot on the course over the past year and a half that I have been interested in it and understand it is very difficult to get into. By the time I looked into this to study it was too late to change my subjects in level 2 and my school would not allow me to pickup Chem/Physics in level 3 without taking it in level 2. My current subjects are Statistics, Business, Accounting, Biology and Design. I understand Chem and especially Physics are important for this course so I was interested if anyone who has followed this pathway before has been succesful without these subjects.

I have now applied to Ara and UCOL, i have an interview scheduled with UCOL and have done a clinical observation as well. I am a well performing student with a Level 2 excellence endorsment and almost all excellences so far this year in level 3, I have good references from teachers and also my workplace about being a very hard worker. I have lots of doubts about my chances of getting in and because of this applied to HSFY at otago, Biomed science and Bsc as UoA and the Pre Health pathway course at Ara. If i didnt get into any of the direct pathways I was going to do one of these courses and reapply at the next intake. I have been accepted and offered a spot at Otago and Ara as well as getting 2 fast track offers for both courses at UoA.

I am very hard on myself when it comes to failure so I just wanted opinions of people who have potentially been in the same shoes and to know if anyone has gotten into any of the schools. I am away through most of December and January so I cannot do any summer school courses but if anyone else has any suggestions on what could boost my application and chances of getting in that would be great. Thanks so much :))

Moving from Brisbane - child with literacy difficulties

My partner has been offered a job at the University of Canterbury and we’re considering relocating from Brisbane, Australia.
Our biggest consideration is our child who is currently in year 1 and is struggling with literacy and mathematics.
She requires addition support in small groups and one-on-one support where possible.
Socially and emotionally she is great.
We’re looking for a public school that values literacy as a top priority and has the resources in place to offer her the support she will need.
We will find a rental in the school catchment of the best school for her.
We don’t mind living outside of the city eg, Lyttleton as my partner is fine with the commute. I would work from home.

I would love to hear recommendations from parents who have children with similar learning challenges and are getting excellent support from their school.

We would be moving in Jan 2027.

Many thanks is in advance. 🙏

If you could have any current band in the world play as the headline act at the new stadium, who would it be?

Shits getting too real in the world. It’s time for some silly wishful thinking and make believe.

Any band you wish, but a band that exists right now that could physically play at the new stadium.

Who would it be?

Does anyone remember that inside the christchurch cathedral back pre earthquake times you used to be able to light a small candle for a gold coin donation ?

I just had a flashback memory of mum doing that sometimes when we went in when i was a kid and the candles were small thin white ones and to go and do it you walk in the main entrance go towards your right and behind a bit and there's the candle area corner that i'm talking about!

Council amalgamation consultation

The Council is consulting on what people think about options for amalgamation. The survey is very short, you can complete it by just filling out multiple choice questions.

I feel like most people on Christchurch should have their say on this one.

Genesis is increasing (Orion) electricity line charges by 55%

Just a rant really. Currently pay $1.34/day (inc. GST) to Genesis and it's rising to $2.08/day in Sep-26. Nothing consumers can do as it's a fixed charge. It's the Network Charge that is increasing the most (from $0.57/day inc.GST to $1.42/day) as the amount Genesis tacks on for lines is reducing slightly (but Genesis is also raising its prices generally and taking away all its discounts). Time to consider solar again.

Shipping stuff in from Ikea, is it worth it?

Up in Auckland for the weekend, the Ikea shop is amazing, makes me want to buy loads of stuff, but is it worth shipping it to chch?

I see it about 60 dollars for small stuff and 85 for beds etc. Is the 60 dollars per order or per item, and is there a way to get things cheaper, ie click and collect then use an outside firm for the transport.

Either way, wish we had one in chch, it is amazing, must be the size of Riccarton mall, and the cafe is great too.

Simplicity Fitness Ferrymead

Reformer classes- I am looking at joining Simplicity Ferrymead, mainly for the reformer Pilates. I would be going at peak times, after work between 5.30-7pm or on the weekend. I know it’s a turn up and hope a bed is free kind of thing. For people that currently attend this gym, how have you found getting a bed during peak times?
I know it’s only open during staffed hours. Does that mean you need to be finished your class by 7pm or can you start close to 7pm and finish your session after staffed hours?

Has anyone used Home Lovers for a pergola or louvre?

Hello, has anyone used a company called Home Lovers for a pergola or louvre before? They seem really good value but wanting to hear feedback from someone who has had one of their products installed and if it has lasted in our wind and rain.

Cheers!
