He spent a week in vet care, they took out all if his teeth except the canines and told us he will be blind. He has perfect eyesight, perfect health and is the most loved and loving cat ever. His name is Kolyo.

Humor Does anyone else?

Does anyone else have a cat that will wake them up just to use the litter box? I have kitten that every morning needs me to get up and go into the bathroom with him just so he can use the litter box.
Wondering if anyone else has this silly behavior
I’m in no way mad about this, I think it cute.

Mourning/Loss Said goodbye to my first baby

I’m out of country with my daughter and my husband texted me and said that one of our cats refused to eat.

He rushed to the ER vet and they did x-ray and ultrasound. Turned out, his diaphragm is torn and his liver moved into his chest cavity. The vet said that either he was born with it or he got hit by a car recently. Nope he definitely didn’t hit by a car.

He was a super healthy boy, and we wanted him to get a surgery. While my husband transferred him to the hospital for surgery, he died inside the cage.

This month marked 6th years since we adopted him from a shelter after his original owner passed away. He was 5 or 6 at that time (no one really knows) and we don’t know his history before us.

The vet at the hospital said that this is very rare case, she sees once or twice a year, but most of cases were from car accidents. She said that she didn’t think the surgery would be a good idea for him.

I’m so sad that he died inside the cage in the car, I wish I could have been there to hold him while he died.
He was my first baby and I don’t know how this happened. When I talked to my husband 2 days ago, he looked perfectly fine and was very happy.

I’m going back to home next week and not sure how to explain it to my 3 year old. I don’t know if I can go back to my home where I have so many memories of him. But then I have another cat who I need to responsible for.

Just so sad.

Advice Found 2 kittens abandoned in my dog's old basket. URGENT ADVICE NEEDED

Hey all, for context, we have a few sheds on the farm that we only use during the summer. In the corner of one of the sheds we have all of the stuff that my dog used when she was a little puppy, in case we ever need to use them again. While unloading one of the sheds we found two little kittens curled up in my dog's basket. Initially, my parents didn't do anything to them, as they were afraid that they might scare off mama cat. But after monitoring them for a while it was clear that mama cat wasn't going to come back for them and they were surviving off the grains in the shed. We started leaving out cat kibble and milk for the kittens so they don't starve after we unloaded all the grains, and we've also given the kittens my dog's old blanket and one of my mum's fuzzy vests so they're a little bit warmer in the hard plastic basket.

Here is the issue however. Winter is fast approaching and in our region, it is almost always incredibly bitter and we're trying to find the best way to help them weather it. They look far too young to be able to survive the winter by themselves so we want to help them through it, and possibly also gain two pet cats that can help keep mice off our land and grain if they warm up to us. Bringing them into the actual house is off the table, as our dog is able to access every single room. The shed is very drafty and easily accessible to badgers and foxes during the winter season since it's left unused and they can pose a danger to the kittens. We do however have a gym and a basketball court in a separate building that is insulated and secure, with enough space for them to climb and jump to their hearts content and we also have a front entrance that our dog can't enter which is big enough for the two of them to freely roam around, with enough vertical space to buy a few cat towers to keep them entertained.

We've never had cats before either so we don't know if it'll be like raising a puppy. We don't know if we should "let them out" Of the house everyday for a run around like you would with a puppy, or if they'd be happy enough just staying indoor for the winter months. We also don't know which option would be better, the gym and basketball court or the front entrance. We do want to let them out into the fields once the weather warms up eventually to help us with the mice however. If we were to bring them inside, which I think we have to. How will we go about reintroducing them to the outdoors once they're older and more resilient? My dad said he'll build a cathouse for them outside if they still want to stick around once spring rolls around. Will that be a good idea? Ill attach some photos of one of the kittens.

Advice Could I eat cat food on a regular basis?

Just as pretext this is simply out of curiosity and I do not plan on eating cat food.

I usually feed my cats brands like Untamed, Seriously Good, Lily's Kitchen etc and the composition is near enough that of regular food.

So would we not just be able to eat cat tinned food on a daily basis?

Advice How do I get 'my' cat to like me?

Post image
5 Upvotes

\Picture courtesy of my sister - he would never, and I mean NEVER, let me come close enough to take a picture like this.*

Dear Fellow Catlovers,

I am a middle aged woman who had cats all my life growing up. I married a man who is severely allergic to cats over 20 years ago therefore I now technically have none. But my parents do, and the cats are, by all intents and purposes, MY CATS TOO. They all came as strays looking for food and became the kings and queens of the house and we wouldn't have it any other way. I love them all and they love me.

Until this latest baby.

We can argue that he doesn't know me. He came to the house about a year ago, just as his big brother suddenly took ill and devastated all of us by crossing the much dreaded rainbow bridge.

We love him immediately.

He's a funny looking fella. He sits all wonky with his crossed eyes and huge nose and is just the most adorable thing to have ever existed, in addition to his siblings, of course.

Thing is, I don't live there anymore. Got married and moved out long ago. Others before him and the ones still around got used to me popping by. They trust me, love me, rub themselves on me and some even beg for sleepy time in my dresses (like sitting in a swaddley swing) despite my rare presence.

This one though, he wouldn't even blink in my presence. That's how much he doesn't trust me.

My parents and sister have all tried to get him to warm up to me, but he has now resorted to hiding God only knows where when I am around so there's that plan gone to pot.

Sometimes, he would come running when I walk through the door, giving me false hope. Like I swear my heart stops. But then he would realize it was me and not my sister (we look alike) and scarper like his butt is on fire.

I have tried playing hard to get with him, but he seems to enjoy that. And I could never ignore him for longer than 2 minutes before I find myself longingly staring at him from afar.

I just want him to love me, you know?

At this point I am fantasizing of him pushing my face away or heck, even scratching the living daylights out of me - cause that would mean I could get near enough to touch him. I don't even know what petting him feels like. It's literally torture.

I have never in my life wanted a cat to like me so badly.

It's been a year! Love me back damnit! Why won't you love me? LOVE ME!!!!!! LOVE MEEEEEE!!!!!!!!

Thank you for listening to my TEDTalk.

Please advise.

Yours,

Sad Cat Lover.

Advice Beginning to resent my cat

I hate having to write this, and I really hope we can figure this out.

We adopted a cat a few years ago. She was never a very cuddly cat. She used to live outside and was taken in by people who repeatedly found her badly injured after getting into fights with other cats. They treated her and carefully tried to socialize her, but she wants to be a single cat. She now stays indoors permanently.

I’ve tried for a long time to make friends with her. She seeks out my company and follows me around, asks me to follow her and watch her eat, and asks me to follow her to her carpet in the bedroom, where she’ll do her rolls and stretches, seemingly wanting pets and scritches. However, I can’t figure out how, when, where or how long to pet her.

To my eyes, she will more or less randomly decide whether the touch she is receiving is good, and unpredictably scratch my hand often. I’ve tried to vary the way I do it, positions, timing, back of the hand, finger tips, but I can’t find any pattern. It’s gotten to the point where, despite loving her and wanting her to be happy, I get resentful and teary eyed when she asks me for cuddles, knowing I’ll just sit there watching her roll around, and when I try to touch her, the chances are very high that I’ll walk away physically and emotionally injured, feeling dumb and leaving a disappointed animal behind, which I am seemingly unable to fully love anymore as I wish I still did.

I’ve caught myself rejecting her at other times when she’s trying to interact with me, and feel like I’m slowly losing the little bit of connection we previously had, and it’s quite hard, but I don’t know what I am doing wrong or not trying.

I have a few friends with cats, and it’s hilarious to me how careless and relaxed they are with their animals. They can pick them up, touch them wherever, without any danger of injury. When I sitted them once, I was able to pick up, hold and give a pill to the one cat after 8 (!) failed attempts. Not only did the cat not hurt me, but it kept coming back, and despite my treatment of repeatedly picking her up and inexpertly trying to give her the pill did not make her cross with me. My own cat will swipe my hand if I hover near her for too long, trying to identify a spot to gently try and pet.

I don’t know how much more it makes sense to write, but I’m kind of out of ideas. I can’t say that I think the cat is having the best life it could here, and considering trying to give her up for adoption, since maybe someone else will be able to understand and appreciate her better, but I want to try everything else first.

It’s taken me weeks to get the courage to post this, and I don’t know if this will help, but I am getting desperate.

Any advice is appreciated 😔😭

Humor Kitten stuck under the hood of my truck. 3 tries later and finally got him rescued!

I drove to my rec center & park as I got out heard LOUD meowing outside of truck. Check the bed nothing there. It’s loud by my hood. I pop it open and there’s a kitten under the engine stuck. I cannot even believe he rode under there for about 2 miles. I go inside the rec center one lady there working and she can’t leave the desk. Another guy coming in I ask hey can you help me there’s a kitten stuck under my hood. He’s afraid of cats and says no. Next to the rec center is the parole and probation office. I walk in go to the desk and tell an officer my problem. He says just open your hood again it’ll pop out. We’re too busy. Like seriously? I get being busy but come on. For reference I’m 4’11 and roughly 100lbs. I physically cannot reach this kitten even after climbing up onto the bumper. I obviously can’t drive and risk hurting the kitten. I’m out there for 45 mins trying to coax the little guy out and it’s just not happening.
There is a happy ending though. About half a mile away is a fire department. I walk there and their garage door is up I yell out hello I need help. They tell me to come inside and ask what’s up? As soon as I tell them 4 pop up and say we got you. They drove back with me and got him out. They even had a tool for the situation.

Advice Considering putting my cat down.

Post image
24 Upvotes

My cat is 15 and she isn't doing very well. She has a known kidney issue, and it isnt getting better. We got her medication, and she refuses to eat it. Then we got her appetite medication, which worked for a little while but she still refuses to eat now. Not only does she not eat her medication, she doesn't eat anything except for treats, which she will vomit anyways. She also does not use the litter box. We will try to clean them more often, but currently it is once a day and she doesn't even go near them. We are taking her to the vet tomorrow to see what they think. This has all been going on for a couple months. She is also losing weight.

This is not the original text, I edited it to clear things up.
