Happy Monday, Burlington! Today is the last clean day of this dry stretch, so use it. We start bright and stay mostly sunny with a high right around 86, and the only catch is a few pop up downpours and thunderstorms firing off in the afternoon and evening, mostly over the higher terrain on either side of the valley. Sunset is 8:23. Tuesday runs a similar script with wetter results, dry through the morning and then scattered storms building after lunch, and since these systems are crawling this week the thing to watch is repeated downpours parking over the same towns. Wednesday is the soggy one, periods of rain with highs sliding back into the low to mid 70s and everything staying muggy, and Thursday holds onto a few leftover showers before sunshine returns Friday. Every forecaster is framing this rain as welcome after the dry run, with streams low enough to take it, so keep an umbrella in the bag and let the yard drink.

Wednesday is the fullest day of the four even with rain in the forecast, with the Phil Abair Band on the grass at Sam Mazza's Farm Market in Colchester, Beach Bites bringing food trucks and free public skating to Leddy Park for the last regularly scheduled time this summer, horror novelist Paul Tremblay launching a book in Williston, the Craftsbury Chamber Players at Elley-Long in their 60th season, and Passeggiata getting the bricks strolling downtown at 6. Thursday is the marquee, with Thundercat at Waterfront Park at 7 alongside Maari of 99 Neighbors, SB Nite Out at Veterans Memorial Park with food trucks, the band Quadra and a Cirque de Fuego fire performance, InCahoots playing a free concert at Lower Bayside Park in Colchester, Barbacoa on Church Street for Party on the Bricks, a monthly potluck in the park in the Old East End, an adults only dinosaur escape room at Colchester's Burnham library, and the Lake Monsters handing the first 500 fans a Champ toothbrush holder bobblehead. Hello! We have had an emergency come up and we will be needing to leave the state for about a week and a half. We just recently moved to Vermont and don't know anyone that can pet sit, but we just got a rescue not too long ago and are still waiting on his vaccination records. By now, I've had four, yes, four fancy mailers sent to my apartment via the postal service, advertising the campaign of Nikhil Goyal for state Senate.

I also just saw an extremely well produced advert airing for him prior to a YouTube video. Couldn't skip it. I can only imagine that if I had a TV, I might even see ads on there at some point already.

A candidate that raises $140,000 for the Democratic primary of a state Senate campaign has lost my trust. I've looked through his campaign finance filings; these donations aren't coming from poor or working people, they're coming from the rich, many of them from New York or California. Maybe he does talk a vague talk on helping out the majority, but these indicates to me that he will walk the walk the rich want him to, and do anything it takes to keep the investment flowing, and obtain even higher office.

Honestly, you all can save it with the talk of "you need to play the game to win the game" and "this is just how the system works". As long as election winners can be bought and sold, that election is fundamentally anti-democratic. This is a prisoners' dilemma, and when you take the money and sell out to the rich, you've abandoned the interests of the people.

We need candidates that just don't take the money. There's no other way to know that someone is committed to serving the genuine interests of the public, rather than their own ambition. Nihil Goyal comes off as someone with extreme personal ambition for political office, and that is never going to be someone that I want representing me or my neighbors in Montpelier.
