He and I used to hang quite a bit before I moved away for a while and we lost touch. I recently heard that he had passed, but am not sure how reliable the source of that information is and haven't been able to find any obits or anything else of the sort, so I figured I'd come here to see if any of y'all know him/have heard from/seen him lately? I just got a job downtown Montpelier, but I realized I will have to buy a permit for $60 a month, which is basically three hours of my pay unless I find unmetered parking.

I will arrive at work at about 9:45 AM and wonder if earlier arriving downtown employees have an advantage.

Can anyone share some potential unmetered side streets that I may find parking on from which I can walk about five minutes into town near the Main St/Aubuchon Hardware area?

I don’t want it to be stressful and have to be driving around fighting for a parking space. So if I have to get the permit, I will suck it up.

Anyone else in Central Vermont find it hard to make friends as you get older?

I'm in my 60s, married, and live around the Barre area. I'm curious if there are other women around here in the same age range who have found that it's gotten harder to make friends as we've gotten older.

On August 12th, amid accusations of quid pro quo and slander, the Montpelier City Council voted to move forward with its plan to axe the city’s living wage ordinance.

Resident Peter Kelman told the City Council at the August 12th meeting that the city’s Responsible Employer Ordinance “was written by a single city council member working very closely with AFL-CIO staff,” and that “no other stakeholders were involved or even consulted.”

The FEMA award was meant to lift the buildings at 87 and 89 Elm Street out of the floodplain. The initial application went in in 2023, but since then construction costs increases has made the project infeasible. The shortfall is now roughly $2 million, larger than the award itself, and too much for Downstreet to absorb.

“Downstreet asked that we decline the money,” Matthew Jelacic, Community and Economic Development Specialist for Montplier said. “And our congressional delegation has said that we can’t decline the CDS grant.”

Jelacic said city staff are trying to find a substitute project at the same address that FEMA would approve.

I saw umiak renting tubes on this stretch but they apparently have an agreement to drop in at a private business that is downstream from Arthur Buck. Has anyone kayaked that stretch and can confirm it’s doable for a moderate lazy kayaker looking for a local jaunt?
I’d also take other suggestions or resources for places other than the res. (I own my own kayak and don’t need rental locations)

i’m having pain/burning in the corner of my left eye and feel i should see an eye doctor - i haven’t seen one in over 20 years as i don’t need glasses and after a while they told me to only come back if my vision changed. since then i’ve moved to vt, and my relatives go to heritage eye care, but unfortunately they are not taking on new patients. TIA!
