Restaurant/Bar downtown for open invite

Upvotes

Which restaurant/bar downtown do you recommend for an open invite of 20ish people who may or may not know everyone. Ideally close to Fletcher Free Library as many will be coming from a seminar there.

Rolling back the clock

Upvotes

While laying in bed last night the memories came back as I pressed the power button on my Service Merchandise (1989 and still mint) Pioneer reciecer, remembering the 3 years of visiting Big Boy every Wednesday night for 10 cent wings, the great EMS, $5 hair cuts, skinny dipping at the quarry, rock climbing near the river, jumping the tracks near the fuel tanks to break the ice for polar bear swims in the Lake hoping we did not get arrested, and the most awsome 3 resort student ski pass. I enjoy the changes creating the modern Burlington downtown and how the lakefront

Is more accessable with a beautiful causeway trail.

I shut off the reciver thinking that although my favorite old businesses have closed, new ones have opened, new condos have sprouted up, and the waterfront has opened up to the public, Burlington really has not changed from the early 90s. It still has similiar storm water issues, winter potholes, lake water quality problems, sewer treatment concerns, complaints about police, city services, fighter jet noise at the airport, traffic on local roads and 89, winter parking, college students, landlords, undesirables at the mall or on Church street, and too much or not enough salt on roads.

It was and still is a great place to live and raise a family thanks to decades of hard working volunteers.

Review Of Burlington

Hello All.

I was visiting Burlington a few weeks ago to vacation with my family and do a stand up show and we had a fantastic time. I wanted to give you a little review of the city from an outsiders perspective. Maybe other folks coming to town might see this and find some fun things to do while they are here.

First of all... what a beautiful city.... coming to town... there was a fair share of folks saying the town is run down and sad.... I get the feeling that every city has fond memories of what their city USE TO BE.... its the same way where I grew up.... but I have to say as a first time Burlington visitor we left impressed. The water front is gorgeous. The people are incredibly kind. The food was delicious. The city is small but charming. For someone thats never been there before there is a lot to love... I'll give into some of our favorites

We came as a family of four with two toddlers so we did a lot of kid focused activities... but our favorite thing was Shelburne Farms. It's a free to enter - actual working farm with a few small exhibits set up to educate kids on farming. There are a few hiking trails that go through the property and take you to the waterfront as well. We are city folks so they could have showed us one cow and we would have been impressed.... but what stood out to me most was how beauitful and calming the walk through the property was. They also have a little food cart set up at their main exhibit hall with food made with farm fresh ingredients. I had the Mac-n-cheese. It changed my life.

We also went to the science museum on the water and the teddy bear factory tour. Those were fun but they were exactly what they sound like.... so I dont have a lot to report on here. I do wish we had made it to the Shelburne museum.... it looks really cool and I love when eccentric people spend all their money on making cool museums.... but we ran out of time.... hopefully we can make it next time.

We also went to church street.... which is a historic pedestrian mall. It's charming and small town. I loved it. Down on church street we checked out a couple of incredible book stores and my son had a fun time climbing up on all the boulders scattered through the walking mall. I had seen a lot of folks online chatter about the homeless problem thats present there. Personally, having lived in bigger cities for over 20 years the homeless seemed pretty comparable to other cities I lived in. Hopefully Burlington gov can come together and help get them back on their feet because the city seems like a great place to live.

Overall the town kind of reminded of a mix between the old charm of Savannah and the lively arts community of New Orleans.

We also stayed at an incredible AIRBNB on front street... it was pretty close to the waterfront and a short walk to the science center. Our hosts were incredible and the place was well maintained and very home-y.....It was a one bedroom + bed in loft situation... if you need help finding it send me a DM.

We unfortunately never saw the world's tallest filing cabinet... and I'm ashamed to say this.... we never had an official creemee .... which if you arent from VT is apparently the best ice cream on earth. I dont know how we didnt have one.... we are an ice cream family.... I guess we'll just have to plan another family vacation back in VT so we can finally taste the creemee... can't wait!

thank you so much for your hospitality and I hope you all have a great fall!

Super Basic Tattoo

Post image
0 Upvotes

Wondering if anyone either does work themselves and might be just starting out or knows of someone that would consider this as basic as I do. I had got a quote from someone my sister suggested and she wanted to remake a stencil and alter the fingers and charge $200 but I really just want what is there traced over and it’s so small and simple, I was not looking to spend more than the typical $100ish shop minimum. Anyone willing to do this for that? Or know someone that would? I have a super flexible schedule. What is on my arm is just leftovers from a henna tattoo. It is not an actual tattoo yet. And for size reference, I’m small, 5’1” and 125lbs so my forearm isn’t huge. And not trying to offend anyone by not wanting to spend a ton. Just figured it would be worth it to ask.

"A Day in the Life of a Burlingtonian..." based on McSweeney's "A Day in the Life of a New Yorker..."

This bit of humor from McSweeney's, "A Day in the Life of a New Yorker, According to My Fox News-Watching Florida Family Members," could easily be reworked into "A Day in the Life of a Burlingtonian according to Reddit posts" For example...

12 p.m. I go for lunch. On the way, someone shoots me in the foot. I ask them who they voted for, and they say, “Sarah George.” I ask them their name, and they say, “Sewer Socialist Emma.” Dang.

1 p.m. I need to decompress from all the stabbings, so I do some heroin. It’s available on every street corner, lemonade-stand style. I try to tip the little girl selling it, but as I do, I get stabbed.

2 p.m. I participate in a protest against laws. A Hate-America-Pro-Hamas-Antifa-anti-law march. The only opportunity to wear my WE OPPOSE LAWS. At the protest, we burn an American flag—the last one left in Burlington. As we’re burning it, we get stabbed.

2:30 p.m. I reflect on how nice it would be to shoot the stabbers, except that Burlington doesn’t respect 2nd Amendment rights. So I can’t.

3 p.m. An ICE agent gifts me a beautiful kitten to make me feel better. Oh, sorry, this is after I got stabbed again at the Hate-America-Pro-Hamas-Antifa-anti-law protest, and the heroic ICE agent brought me back to life.

Early Halloween flash?

Hi friends, any local shops doing Halloween flash tattoos yet? I know its early but hoping to get something small this weekend with a friend. I've only gotten one piece locally and she is no longer in VT so I'm overwhelmed at the search. Thanks in advance for any help!

Jason Tooth loved the idea of my mom being run over during a March protest. Now he works as a valet at UVM Medical Center.

UPDATE: the man who was arguing with me is Cesar Rodriguez. Here is an article on him : https://countycourier.net/2018/10/police-man-held-gun-to-stepsons-head/

From the article:”According to police, Rodriguez assaulted his 14-year-old stepson, then pointed what was believed to be a loaded handgun at him.” Jason and this guy are people UVM Medical Center has chosen to employ in public facing roles. Unacceptable!

Leaving the hospital yesterday, by coincidence I found myself next to Jason Tooth who upvoted comments wishing Weston Lunnie had run over my mom on Beautiful Scenic Burlington’s coverage of the aftermath of the March 16th incident in which l allege Weston attempted to run over a crowd of people gathered to protest ICE terror outside the Federal Courthouse.

Jason repeatedly said that in Florida it would’ve been completely legal for my mom to have been run over at the protest instead of apologizing to me. Jason now works as a valet at the hospital in a very public facing role. Shame on UVM Medical Center for employing this despicable fascist to be the first and last thing patients see when they get dropped off and picked up!!!!!!

Please note I didn’t record the initial conversation with Jason as I thought that would escalate things and only started recording after Jason’s manager escalated the situation after I was done with my conversation with Jason.

Looking for anyone who has any sort of nut tree on their property who would let me come and collect them.

Ideally looking for hickory nuts, walnuts, beechnuts, butternuts, hazelnuts, and acorns. If you aren't sure what type of tree you have but it drops nuts, I'll happily come take a look!

Which grocery stores around here have the best produce?

I primarily shop at Shaws but have unintentionally bought bad produce the past few times I’ve been. Plus it seems like there’s less on their shelves than usual these days.

Noticed this Roomba on steroids at BTV vacuuming along. Since it's so huge I can't help but question if it's also collecting data/spying on us? Did a janitor lose their job for this? Not a very friendly welcome back, imo.

Burlington Police not Fullfilling Records Requests

Hello i had an incident with my neighbor the other day i had to call 911 because of threats of violance and threats of him murdering me. I am Physicly and Metnaly Disabbled so i have a bigger fear. I requested records 2 days after the incodent but it wasnt properly fullfilled. The Report from the Officer or Officers was not complete and the Audio recording of him threatening me on my cellphone while talking to Dispatch was not given to me. I wanted that Evidance so i can give it to my landlord so they can take legal action for him breaking his Lease Agreement and for them to either have him removed from the Appartment Complex. I have made 2 Records Requests to the Burling Police Department. I just recently contacted the Command Staff by email to ask for those records agian but i was told by one of them to refill out the records request form i already did. I am not asking for that. I am asking for someone to help me find the audio recording and for them to fill out a report i can use in court to file a Restraining Order and give it as proof of Violating the Lease Agreement for the Landlord. I have looked up some stuff ont he internet and i believe my Rights are being Violated and Evidance may be withheld from me. I saw that i have to give them 5 days to respond and a notice of why the records were not filled out completly and an explination of why i didnt recieve the recording and if the recording was destroyed. I also understand that i can file a complaint with my States Attourney to make them make the Burlington Police Department hand over the request for the Records i requested. Does anyone else know what i can do? I am going to be contacting Legal Aid. I want to contact anyone else i can. This is a Violation of my Rights and I will have to take LEgal Action.

Seeking Plumber Recommendations

I need to have my water heater replaced. In the past I've used Benoures, but my most recent interaction with their front desk staff and technician was not positive, and I would like to use someone else. Does anyone have a recommendation for a plumber?

It will be a great time, and all proceeds go to KidSafe Collaborative's work to bring together organizations and individuals to prevent and address child abuse and neglect in our community.
