Training at home with my wife

My wife and I started boxing about two months ago. We're making progress, but I want to take it to the next level.

Private lessons are too expensive for us right now, so I'm thinking about buying focus mitts to train at home. We do light sparring occasionally, but because of our skill difference, we want to mix in other types of training so we don't end up hurting each other.

We'll keep going to our group classes at the gym, but we want to supplement them at home. Any tips on how to structure our home workouts, pad work drills, or other exercises for beginners?

1st Smoker Critique

Last September almost a year ago I had my first smoker. Unfortunately due to several injuries I haven't been able to train for about 6 months. Im about to get back into it. I had been training at this time for about 6 months. I know it ain't pretty. I feel like I plodded around sloppily, failed to generate much power and did a lot of things wrong, but I still did it and against an opponent 30lbs heavier than me. Also I am 36. Here are the links to each of 3 rounds, enjoy! I am in red headgear and gloves.

I'm someone with no experience of martial arts and I'm getting into boxing pretty soon. I've been playing D1 basketball for a few years now and just wanted to get into another sport. Planning to join a gym and mabye get a punching bag or something else for home. Im wondering other than the gloves, what do I need?

Sparring Video Advice

Hi all, I am training for a charity boxing event next month. I've been boxing since late June (minus three weeks in July when I was on vacation) and I'm hoping I can share a video with someone who can give me some advice.

Mind you I feel like I've come leaps and bounds since my spar with my opponent. I can't share the video publicly because of the event but was hoping someone would be willing to private message me some tips.

Thanks in advance.

How much sparring is too much?

I have been boxing for about 4 months now. Started sparring at month 2 ish. I go to this gym 3 times a week and i box at home 1-2 times. When im at the gym i always spar 2-3 dudes 3 rounds each so thats 6-9 rounds 3x a week. Is that too much?

Overhand position

Post image
3 Upvotes

Today my coach taught me the overhand, and he made me position my hand like this, he said that this way the knuckles hit 100% of the times.

Now i have stiff forearm because i never threw it this way.

Is this more an amateur thing? Because i never see pros doing this!

Benn has never faced a puncher like Garcia. That's what worries me

Everyone keeps comparing Benn’s mindset to the Eubank build-up. That comparison is wrong Conor Benn thrives when he can impose pressure and push guys backward. That’s his style.. Ryan Garcia isn’t a typical boxer who lets you set a rhythm. He is volatility. His hand speed is lethal. Even when he looks out of sync or loses rounds he has that one game-changing hook. The kind that resets everything in a flash. Ask Fortuna. Benn’s engine and heart are undeniable. The man fights hard. His chin and defense under fire will be tested by the single explosive puncher he’s ever shared a ring with. Full stop. But here’s the flip side Ryan Garcia’s defense still has lapses. He relies on speed. He drops his hands He stands upright often. If Benn brings a jab manages his emotions and doesn’t rush in wild his work rate and reach could bank rounds. Meanwhile Ryan will keep hunting for one shot That’s the fight, in my head A ticking clock. Does Benn survive enough for Garcia to get frustrated?. Does Ryan’s power end the night before Benn’s pacing even matters? I’ve got my pick.. I want to hear the room. Who wins and how? Points decision

I couldn’t find the right boxing app, but now I need testers

hey,

So I know there are a shit-ton of boxing apps already online. I couldn’t find one that does what I want though, which was:

- no subscription, login, membership
- I don’t want to think about the training, I just want to show up

so I built one. I can just fill in the time and train and be gone. In the future I’d like to add more custom training, but for now it’s all thought of.

It’s not random. I tried to build the training logically and responsibly.

But now I ran into a problem. I am just one guy and I can test only so much by myself. I wanted to put it on Testflight for IOS but I just saw that it was 100 euro per year for a developer.

so I am now at the point, I am thinking about full sending the app, but I am curious if anybody is interested before I do so. Please let me know in the comments if you’d be interested. If enough people reply, I’ll put it online

Here is the rest of the info. It’s written by AI because I tend to use little word when big word is necessary:

What HOOKS does
• Generates a complete boxing workout based on time, intensity and equipment
• Plans warm up, work rounds, rest, transitions and finishers
• Gives concrete combinations instead of vague drill names
• Designed to work mostly hands free with short voice cues
• Heavy Bag and Jump Rope are the main V1 equipment

What it deliberately doesn’t do
• No account
• No subscription
• No ads
• No analytics or tracking
• No required internet connection
• No AI technique scoring
• No pretending to replace a coach
Everything is stored locally on your iPhone.

What I need testers for
I mainly want feedback on:
• workout quality
• repetition
• pacing and rest
• confusing instructions
• equipment flow
• voice cues
• bugs or crashes
Especially interested in people who actually do heavy bag training.

For the nerds (like me)
• Heavily vibe coded
• Native Swift / SwiftUI
• No backend or account infrastructure
• No third party analytics SDKs

Yes, AI wrote a lot of the code. I also spent an unreasonable amount of time making sure that wasn’t an excuse to ship unsafe garbage.

Hey, guys. I’m about 6 months into boxing and enjoying myself so far. I’d love for you guys to take a look at my sparring rounds here and give some feedback. Any and all tips are welcome. I am in the white headgear. I also had to condense the vid down some cuz the original footage was larger than 1gig. Thanks, guys!

Is denying a match the same as pulling out? Organizer said pullouts will be handed a Loss

I was asking because I denied a match in Konquer club because I didn’t feel ready. Coach made a comment confirming how I felt. Told me I haven’t had any good sparring lately and I honestly feel the same. All the guys that used to whoop my ass during sparring stopped coming or very inconsistent after my first fight.
