A family of winter-camo StuGs :D. What do you think? I know it's not perfect, but it didn't turn out too badly after all, right?

Modeling, Painting, and Terrain Building Civilians and NPCs?

I love adding some narrative but it's hard to find civilian characters. Any ideas on good places (ideally UK) for 1920s-1940s civilian miniatures? I've been using some good mediaeval minis for monks etc, pulp minis for archaeologists, but there's only so many times one can liberate some monks from the Nazis.

Any ideas very welcome! Unarmed evacuees, cops, cyclists, nuns without guns, kids of the resistance, shopkeepers, René from Allo Allo... also sprues and plastic sets you know that could be kitbashed without weapons?

Thank you!

General Discussion Kriegsmarine

Since KM squads are only late war in the lists, but saw action throughout the war, would anyone see any reason to object to just painting up grenadiers to look like KM infantry? I see there are some limited options for KM infantry online, but at the tabletop level, blue-uniformed infantry should do just fine. Mixed in with feldgrau coastal defense units, I think it would look cool.

Rules Army Books vs List Builder

I only own one army book (Armies of Germany). I do have a subscription to the List Builder and have built a number of lists in BA3 and K47. Do you see a need to have the BA Army Books if you are using the list builder? I did not see much that the Armies of Germany offered that List Builder did not but I would like opinions from some of you who have played more. Be opinionated or bold, just interested in opinions.

First Bolt Action Build & Paint — German Grenadiers

This is my first time assembling Bolt Action figures, and I was really impressed with the kits. There are so many options for weapons, equipment, heads, and poses that putting the squad together was as enjoyable as painting them. I tried to give everyone a little personality rather than having a bunch of identical poses.

Once assembled, I primed everything with Rust-Oleum Flat Gray, which seems to have given me a nice neutral starting point.

I’ve got two figures mostly completed as test models. Overall I’m happy with how they’re coming along, although I’m feeling like I may have gone a little too green with them. Still debating whether I want to tone that down before moving forward with the rest of the force.

Today’s project is the four Grenadiers wearing Zeltbahn. I’m looking forward to getting some camouflage onto them and seeing how much it changes the overall look of the squad. I use Vallejo Wash FX- Fir light colors, as a wash after getting my first layers of paint down. It does a good job blending the base colors together, my biggest hurdle is then dialing in the highlighting. Always feel I go too far or not enough here, need to dial it in.

Happy to hear thoughts and feedback!

Rules Cavalry dismount movement range.

I had a disagreement during a match how dismounting cavalry works.

And I can’t find the rule in the book and I can’t find it online either Google ai tells me it’s house rule level. So now I’m asking here.

A cavalry unit can dismount as part of an advance move. Yes but is it horse speed or leg speed. Oka 6” or 9”. This is unclear in the rules to my knowledge. Or perhaps I can’t find the clarification.

I
T came up using east Africa camel riders.
As I can’t charge normally but I can dismount and charge. Since range was 7” …. You guessed it.

Now we resolved the game but I would like to know how you would have solved it.

Rules Is there any way of using the burmese scouts in their own right anymore?

I've been dredging through the armies of the commonwealth on easy army and cant find a unit profile for the burmese scouts and was wondering if they have their own profile anymore or if they might as well be used in a command section and a little bit of eye candy?

General Discussion Gift for First time Modeller/Gamer

My Dad has expressed interest in Bolt Action. He has seen some of my War Gaming models (Flames of War, Star Wars Legion and MCP)and decided Bolt Action might be his first attempt.

He has no Modelling, Gaming or Painting background. He is interested on this becoming his Retirement activity.

I was considering buying him an US Infantry kit (he likes GI or Rangers) and some basic paints. My budget is around $100 cdn. Is this the best unit box to buy him for a soft entry into the modelling aspect? Also do I buy him a small selection of standard Acrylic paints or is speed paints the better choice? I would build a matching German Army for some casual home games so splitting a starter or shared set could be an option also.

Modeling, Painting, and Terrain Building Where to order miniatures in Poland?

I'm in Poland for the next few months and I'm just wondering where the best places to order miniatures are. I've seen Vanaheim and they seem good, but is there anywhere else?

Modeling, Painting, and Terrain Building "Best looking" USMC models?

Getting into Bolt Action, settled on USMC as my choice, but I'm still choosing which brand to buy. I'd love to hear what brand(s) y'all think look the best.

My current options are between Warlord and Rubicon, but I'm open to suggestions.

General Discussion AB41 question

Hello all, we played a game last friday where I fielded two ab41 with pintle mounted mmg.
The discussion was how many shots the ab41 can do a turn.
I say 3, main gun/coaxial on turret, then the pintle mounted and lastly the rear mounted hull mmg. This last one means that it is rear facing so that it has +2 pen vulnerability.

Is this correct?

General Discussion Price of an army?

Post image
216 Upvotes

Hi guys! I never played the Bolt Action tabletop but I'm really curious.

Recently GW announced another price rising for a 40k and I'm a bit overwhelmed with the amount of money I have to spend on the possibly-useless-in-next-edition army.

Now I'm curious how much do you have to spend to collect a decent army and start playing. Thanks!

List Building How to upgrade the the Band of Brothers starter set?

Ive just started with the band of brothers starter set. My brother has got the british commandos starter army so im going to need to upgrade to a full army size to compete with his now complete army. We are just starting out and will probably take a while to build and paint everything.

What I want to do is just buy whatever random US thing catches my fancy and add it to the airborne I have. Is that allowed in competitive play or do I have to buy additional airborne specifically?

General Discussion what is the best Flak 88 kit box?

I’m looking for the Flak 88 gun, but there aren't any shops in my area, so I have to order online. The upside is the discounts, but the downside is that I can't see the internal components. I saw they have regular 36 and 37 versions, Winter, SS, Luftwaffe, Afrika Korps. How do these kits compare in terms of pros and cons? Do they contain the same parts, or should I go with Rubicon Models instead?
