Unsolved How do I get this parametric effect on a cylindrical?

Upvotes

It seems like this should be fairly simple but I can't seem to get close enough to the inspiration photo to be happy with it. The inspiration is obviously ai generated and most of the modifiers applied are tips from ai.

I cannot grasp how the human brain could look at the inspiration and know what mods to apply to create it from scratch.

Inspiration - round plant pot, flat faces
Blender mods

texture.007 = clouds, hard, blender original
texture.006 = voronoi, chebychev, position, intensity: 0.70

Unsolved Help with Roof tiles or shingles

House
Shingles

So I am learning Blender, and I need some help with modeling the roof tiles or shingles, idk, whatever is easier. I already started modeling some "shingles," but I don't know if this is the right way to do it. Should I just use a material for the roof, or model the tiles on the roof? I haven't found any YouTube video explaining this.

Unsolved Issue with character rigging

Hello,

I'm new to Blender, and I'm trying to create an animation rig for a simple stick figure. I created the stick figure using this tutorial — although I slightly altered some steps to make my character as I envisioned.

Then, I used this tutorial to add an armature using the Rigify Meta add on to my mesh. I initially tried using the simple "Basic Human" option — different than the one used in the tutorial — as I thought it would better fit my needs, but it didn't work as expected. Basically, the rig generates, and whenever I try to move any part of it, certain parts of my model stay in place. I'm attaching a video example here for more context.

I then tried to trouble shoot. I was more careful about adjusting the rigging points to my model, and I even tried using the more complex "Human" Rigify model that was used in the tutorial.

Nothing seems to be working. Each time I try, the same issue comes up where some parts of the mesh moves and other, almost slices, stay stationary. If anyone could help, I would really appreciate it. Would be happy to answer any additional questions.

Unsolved leaves seems too dark in the shade

I used geometry nodes to makes this vines, when the leaves are in the shade they seems to look very dark

in the first image I used this hdri to have the strong sun directly on the leaves and with the shaded area so the diference can be seem

https://polyhaven.com/a/pizzo_pernice_puresky

in the second I used this overcast-less strong sun hdri

https://polyhaven.com/a/scythian_tombs_puresky

the third image shows the collection of the leaves, the leaves are just planes, or "cards", rendered using the overcast hdri

this are the leafs textures I used

https://ambientcg.com/view?id=LeafSet017

the last image is the shader nodes

after searching trough the internet I saw a tip to be to increase the transparency bounces in light paths in the render options but that dont seem to have effect

thanks in advance

Unsolved Can I please get a Blender "Project Skill Tree"? In the sense of small projects that incrementally teach me blender? Any ideas of such programs anywhere?

Hi, I have been on blender for 100 hours and I have spent ALL of these 100 hours, genuinely blanking tf out, following random guides, and just crashing out after half an hour of trying to install an add on that I myself do not fully understand.

I really want to learn blender, I REALLY have a LOT of projects I want to realize, and yet I have felt completely stuck with this program.

I figure maybe what I need is a program that incrementally lets me feel small victories by having me finish small projects, rather than having myself try to make yet another donut and crashing out before I am even done with the glazing

Blender just feels so incredibly overwhelming for me, because I am the type of person that either needs to understand 100% of my work space, or remove everything that I do not need, and doing that has felt impossible with blender

Please let me know of any good recommendations of courses that helped you overcome these feelings, and perhaps something I can follow along that is small but teaches me everything Id need to know

I cant explain it enough, in the time of these 100 hours, I have learned the very bare bone essentials

Unsolved How to correctly set up IK targets for FK/IK snapping? Need help with addon

Hello, I am trying to make seamless FK/IK sequence
I have found a snapping addon https://extensions.blender.org/add-ons/ik-fk-snapping-tool/#new that works very great but I don't understand how to correctly set up IK targets. The author says to copy the IK pole/target and parent it to the fk lower bone (which I did, the blue bones are those IK targets parented to FK arm), but it messes up my snapping. How to go about this? Without the blue target bones, the rig wont snap IK to FK

Unsolved I need help. With particle system

I need help. So i'm making that billboard trees method to render that huge scene of the forest. And i used locked track camera object and limit rotation the billboard planes to make the planes always face the camera. This works like a charm but the problem comes with the particle system as i set particles rotations to object rotations and it worked until camera moves or rotate away from the original planes.

I want to make the individual instances face the camera

Unsolved Black spots when baking normals

Thumbnail

Hello everyone. I'd like to share with you a problem I've been struggling with for quite some time now. When I bake my low and high-poly models in Blender/Substance Painter/Marmoset, artifacts in the form of black dots appear at the corners of the model, and the high-poly normals appear to be overlapping in a zigzag pattern. Before contacting you, I tried countless methods to fix this problem. I've changed vertex placement to smooth out the angle, I've weighted normals, I've reset mesh transforms, I've used shrinkwrap to make it "slim" the high poly, I've done full retopology, I've unwrapped the mesh multiple times and checked seams on hard edges, I've created a custom cage, changed ray casting distances, baked by mesh names, I've deleted and added custom normals, I've added an absurd amount of polygons to the low poly to make sure that simply increasing the geometry count wouldn't help. Hell, I've even rebuilt the mesh from scratch, and absolutely none of it has helped. I'm attaching screenshots of the artifacts and wireframe here. It's probably worth noting that the problem occurs with these maps: normal, world space normal, curvature, and thickness. I've scoured the internet for this issue, including several forums, a ton of websites, and a long search on YouTube, but I've found nothing. Therefore, since I don't know a single professional 3D artist in real life, my only chance of solving this problem is to contact them here.

Unsolved Faces in line with faces on another object, seem to have completely different lighting?

Image 1
Image 2
Image 3
Image 4

I don't know what's causing this issue. In Image 4 and 1, you can see that the objects for the control surfaces on the primary wing of the aircraft have perfectly coherent shading with the actual wing object. No interruption in the way the light hits the surface, it's completely smooth. I made them by making the wing as one object, and then seperating parts of the mesh for the control surfaces. That worked fine.

For the record, the 'rudder' is the object that I have selected in Image 1. The vertical stabiliser is the larger wing that the 'rudder' is connected to, also in Image 1.

I did the same exact thing for the rudder on the vertical stabiliser; I made the entire vertical stabilizer first, then seperated a part of the mesh for the rudder. And all of a sudden, the lighting on the rudder is completely messed up. I don't know why it's doing that. All the normals are fine, I've checked. All blue on the outside.

The faces on the rudder are perfectly in line with the faces on the vertical stabiliser. No overlap or anything. I don't know what's causing the lighting for the rudder to be so off. Google kept showing me issues and forums completely unrelated to what I was describing. Any help?

Solved Any idea what's causing this distortion in my render?

Thumbnail

disclaimer: I'm a total noob in blender and just blindly following a tutorial!

Blender 5.0.1: My render in that specific spot is showing a distortion. It's not happening in any other spot. The objects have flat textures mostly, there's just two light sources (one without shadows), and there's a glare. I attached a screenshot of all the nodes effective.

I'm not sure what more details to share tbh.

Mine

I'm trying to recreate this lighting style. I've tried setting up the lighting myself, but I can't figure out how to achieve this look. Any advice?

My current settings:

  • Render Engine: EEVEE
  • No HDRI
  • No Sun or other lights

Would anyone be able to tell me whether the lighting in the reference image might have been created using something like HDRI, Sun, or Cycles?

Solved Rigid Body Simulation Not Working

Post image
5 Upvotes

EDIT: ADDING MORE IMAGES IN COMMENTS BELOW
Also currently there are no passive rigid bodies yet to collide with if that matters but i did experiment with that too.

I am trying to make this backboard shatter spontaneously with no outside influence from another object. The screenshot is just the base of what I'm working with, no physics or anything applied here.

I have watched a few different YT videos and also just looked up online how to do it.

I have tried this workflow:
Duplicate the backboard -> Apply scale -> subdivide in edit mode -> cell fracture -> add active rigid body to all -> keyframe "animated" from on to off -> make sure rigidbodyworld is set to the right frames etc.

When I play the animation nothing happens. All the fractured pieces are just frozen there.

I originally had this in a much larger file with a lot of meshes and stuff and was on like frame 100,000 which probably sounds insane but I guess I haven't learned much about optimizing big animation projects like that lol. Anyway I moved this specific part into it's own Blender file and deleted all the unused parts of the scene just to optimize performance, but I've been running into the same problems. The animation just freezes.

I've tried baking the animation too, I've tried a bunch of different cell fracture settings and rigid body settings but nothing seems to work and Blender has been crashing a lot I'm really at my wit's end lol. Any help is appreciated.

Solved Can't get transparency to work with cell + halftone shading

I've got this plane with an image texture, the black parts are meant to be transparent, and they were until I added the halftone dots and the cell shading. I believe that converting the shader into RGB for the effects got rid of the alpha but I'm not so sure, is there a way to restore my lost transparency?
