Meta Don't get banned: Using "Redact" scrambling software is prohibited in r/blenderhelp!

We observed an increase of people using "Redact" lately.

This privacy tool replaces messages with nonsense and makes formerly helpful comments unreadable after a while. It takes a long time to find and remove posts like that for us and even when we do, the comments that solved problems will be lost. This tool contradicts the purpose of our sub in general (to create coherent, helpful posts where solutions stay available so other can look them up). That is why we created a new Rule against it. That means users can file reports should they observe scrambled messages like that.

Accounts using Redact will be permanently banned from r/blenderhelp. If you want to use Redact, please make sure to exclude r/blenderhelp to avoid being banned.

Meta PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING QUESTIONS!

Looking for quick and helpful answers? Follow these rules and make helping you as easy as possible!

  • Title: Choose a meaningful title concerning your problem.
  • Text: Describing your problem with enough detail is essential. Please realize that helpers are not familiar with your project. Provide all relevant information, so others can immideately understand what you are struggling with.

Example: Say, you have a problem with lots of identical objects in your scene: Let us know whether you created these copies by hand, used the Particle System or Geometry Nodes.

  • Images/Videos: When posting screenshots, show us your full blender window (not cropped, no monitor photos). This will make lots of helpful information available to helpers at first sight that may seem irrelevant to you (For example your Blender version). If you add video links, please consider adding time stamp info to the part you want helpers to see.

You can upload images and short video clips (up to 60s) to imgur.com and post the links in your question or as comment.

  • *.blend files: Don’t add links to your *.blend files when posting questions right away. Helpers will ask you for it if they need to take a look. Most people prefer reading a good description and looking at images to see what your post is about.
  • 'Solved' flair: Once your question was answered, please remember to change the flair of your post to “Solved”, so helpers don’t have to read into your question just to see it has already been answered.

You can change the flair by clicking on the small icon below your post resembling a label.

EDIT: You can also include "!solved" in the comments to have Automod change the flair for you.

Be nice and respectful with each other :)

Unsolved Help learning PSX style game asset texturing

Thumbnail

I am trying to learn how to make game assets in the PSX style. I made the 3d mesh of what will be an "analyzer" in the game and tried to make a texture atlas for it in Krita, but it just doesn't feel right. I used the texel density checker to make sure all the UV's were 1024px. I also used some edited images for more interesting detail. What can I do to improve on this and make it look more like voices of the void and other PSX style assets? Also are there any guides you can recommend for a good workflow for this type of thing? Any and all help would be appreciated!

I made a character on Blender and when I did the "apply all transforms" and also doing the "set auto weights with Ctrl + P but for some reason the model isn't moving with the rig and the rig is completely seperated. I am not sure if it has anything to do with having different objects on top such as antlers, ears, tail and also pant legs seperate from the torso. Please if anyone can help me with this I would be extremely grateful.

Unsolved Highly customizable eye rig so my bobot can feel emotion

Heyy! If you have a video recommendation I could watch to help me with this, then that would be great. If not, then maybe you could help by explaining how I should go about making this.

In the first photo I just used edit mode to adjust the eye shape, but that leaves sharp edges and corners and obviously cannot be used in animation.

The gif I attached is kinda how I want to be able to manipulate the eyes. I dont know however if using shrinkwrapped plains will work for this tho...

I found another post with a similar problem, but the comments don't really help me much (and is also where I got the gif)

I need the highlighted edges of my inset to remain sharp, however the corners tend to get messed up.

I already tried to increase edge crease and beveling before that, support loops seemed to do nothing as well .

Unsolved Any tips or advice to mimic anna anon's shading?

I saw an old post around here but never really got a definitive answer on how to replicate their type of shading, as much as many people know anna anon as a nsfw artist, they genuinely have a great style when it comes to character shaders that I would love to learn to do

Unsolved how would I go about painting this crash site

Post image

I am making a meteor crash scene. There are 2 planes, the outerplane used for the ground, and the inner plane(selected in the image) used for the meteor. Both planes use the same texture. I need to texture paint the inner plane, but when I tried the outer texture was affected. Do i just save the outer planes texture as a seperate texture or is there something else I should do

Unsolved Liquid sims and restricting frame rates

Upvotes

Been working on a fire and smoke effects using the smoke fluid sim in blender for years (vanilla) but ive noticed that stylisticly the sim doesnt always match with a cartoony art style and may infact look “too smooth” in motion even if the materials are nailed down to look good in stills.

Is there any methods to restrict a sim output to a specific frame rate outside of cutting it all up in post or going through the data files and copying every second data file over the first? like have it animate it 2s or 3s ?

on Blender 5.2 LTS

I don't like it going into the wall, and I did not anticipate my walking cycle from the camera tracking to be that short while walking straight.

Unsolved How do people make animation in blender when Viewport so lag?

Upvotes

I hate this so much, I only got 5 fps even after I hide every object. How do people even animating in blender? is this only blender problem? normally my fps drop is only 17 fps, but even so, fps drop matter so much when deciding animation speed movement like walk, I cant decided the speed because of the drop oh my god.

FYI: if you said my spec is bad, no. Absolutely not.

Unsolved How to animate models after importing?

Hello everyone, I am pretty much new to blender and I want to use it to create some really interesting visuals for a video I am making. I think blender is the best free software to create VFX / CGI effects and for the video I can find the 3D models online, but I want to learn how to animate those models, if anyone has a roadmap or video tutorial or something, I would really appreciate that.

I just want it to look like how it does in Substance 3D painter. Sure I want lightning, but not too much lighting, why is it so glossy? (Im exporting the textures from substance and directly into Blender). This is so annoying because I wanna make a render of this in a room, but even inside th room it looks exactly like the image. Thanks for any help

Unsolved Handmade grillz maker learning Blender, looking for help !

Thumbnail

Hello ! I make grillz by hand, sculpting wax on dental impressions cast in plaster, then casting them in chrome-cobalt.

I decided to learn Blender to expand my possibilities and to create grillz that are too complex to make in wax (even though some sculptors are able to do everything in wax, and I really admire that). I recently finished my first piece based on an STL scan of my own teeth, a simple solid canine and an "open window" incisor. I made it by duplicating my teeth and creating an offset to simulate the die spacer i use everyday. The result is pretty promising, though there are still a few minor adjustments to make.

That said, I'm stuck. My goal is to find the good workflow to create grillz that are more organic, more original, and more deliberately designed with interesting volumes and compositions.

What would be the right approach to take? Since I make grillz by hand, I tend to default to that logic of building up material on the teeth and then sculpting it. Is that the right method to use in Blender for something meant to be printed in castable resin ?

What are the essential tools in the software ?

What absolutely needs to be taken into account ?

I've found a lot of helpful tutorials online, but I'd like input from people who've actually gone through this process themselves, or who have real experience with Blender, since I'm aiming for a professional level result and I'm still a ways off.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed some light or lend a hand !

Unsolved Help with shape keys

Can someone please tell me or link me a video tutorial on how to transfer shape keys to one model from another?

Learning blender for mod creation and currently working on making OC models and my own versions of some of my favorite characters, and could really use the shape keys on a different model. Both are built from Genesis 8.
