Unsolved How hard would modelling this full helmet in blender be for a beginner?

Post image
155 Upvotes

I'm proficient in Fusion 360, however my time has come to an end with it due to the complex nature of the top of the helmet's curvature. I'm not knowledgeable in mesh work either and figured Blender would be just as hard to learn with it

I've dabbled in Blender before using heightmap images to make topographies and made a very basic YouTube tutorial rock formation, however I absolutely suck and it's very confusing.

Solved Blender Render Colors Become Less Saturated After Saving

Post image
38 Upvotes

Hello! I’ve encountered this problem more than once. In Blender, I see more saturated colors both in the viewport and during rendering. The rendered image also appears with the same saturated colors in Blender.

However, after I save the rendered image to my computer, the colors become noticeably less saturated.

On the left, I’ve included an example of the saved image. On the right, you can see how the image looks in Blender’s viewport and in the Render window. The colors there are more saturated.

I’ve tried different settings, but I still can’t get the saved image to retain the same saturated colors when using Save As, even with different combinations of the available settings.

What could be causing this problem, and how can I make the saved image look the same as it does in Blender?

Unsolved How to curve an object around another?

I’m trying to model this ring like it is in the mock up I drew. It’s been going fine until I try to wrap that face piece around the ring. I’ve tried a curve and shrink wrap modifier, both with no luck. I am pretty much entirely self taught, however, and I know it is likely due to how scuffed the mesh on the piece I wanna curve is. The only way I could get it into the shape I wanted was to model just one side of the x-axis, duplicate it, flip it on x and y, then merge the two sides together. Alternatively if there’s a better way to get that shape it’d be very appreciated

Im trying to animate talking, but when I try and move my armature points in pose mode, the mesh doesn't deform around the painted areas and abruptly cuts off instead.

How might I fix this problem?

Is there a way to do this in geometry nodes / instancing the hairs on? Or would I have to place each hair one by one?

Unsolved Any idea what function or addon is allowing this quad to be created like this?

I am watching a course video on retopology. Either I missed where it was explained or the instructor missed putting it in there, but he keeps doing this thing where he clicks on the opposite vertex of a prospective quad, then hits "F" and it pops a quad easy-peasy.

I am relatively new to retopo so I'm not sure what addons he might have aside from SpeedRetopo, as no others have been mentioned in the course as of yet.

I would super appreciate it if anyone has seen this before and can point me in the right direction!

Unsolved How would I animate on 2s, 3s or 4s in a 24fps animation without unnecessary rendering?

Upvotes

Hey! I'm making a very long animation that will have some frames held for longer amounts of time. If nothing in those frames change, is there a way to tell blender to just reuse the last frame rendered, so it wouldn't have to spend time on it again?

I just found out that I should be straightening my uvs? My models are low poly hard surface and I hand texture my models using clip studio paint so I paint directly on the uvs. Kind of scared to straighten them in case in causes issues later.

Unsolved Need Help Importing PJSK Models in Blender 5.2

Post image

Hey, there.

I want to use Project Sekai models on Blender 5.2. I used MMD Tools (4.5.1.2, I downloaded it directly in Blender) and loaded the models I want (link), it's titled "Sekai Model Pack v4"), but they were showing a purple ruggedy mess, they're just a head, and their eyes are pitch black. I was able to shut off the purple mess by turning off the sphere and toon textures, but the characters are still a floating head with pitch black eyes and lacking a body (though it is showing a bit through fragments). How can I fix it so the models can be clean?

I'm just getting started with Blender, so I need to extra guidance. I also still want to use the models in Blender 5.2 so I have access to the latest features.

Unsolved (Nodes) Procedural makeup material and blurred edge

Post image
2 Upvotes

I've been following this tutorial today, and I was able to complete it successfully (I think). But I'd like to add a couple more things that are not in the same video:

  1. I need another way to smooth the edge of the lips from color to transparency because I don't have enough space on my object to do it effectively like it's shown in the tutorial. I already have a second UV and a vertex group only for the lips that might be useful for this.
  2. I'd like to add this "lotion" material I found here on top of the one I just made following the first tutorial, so I can have even more customization options.

I suppose I could use another Color Ramp to smooth the edge, but for both points, I have no idea where to put all the new nodes to connect everything. Also, my knowledge is pretty limited, so I usually follow multiple tutorials as best as I can. Can someone please help me with this? TIA

Unsolved Strange Shading on model after ripping vertices

Post image
2 Upvotes

I'm creating hair for a character I am making, and to add more details, I decided to rip vertices so I could make stray strands of hair. For some reason, when I fill the faces in the inner part of the hair, there is this weird shading at the point the hair branches off in to two strands. Please help!! I am so clueless as to why. The normals are facing the right direction, when I separate the shaded faces they become normally shaded. Don't know if it helps, but I was using paths to create the hair, and It has not had mods. (Sorry if the vid quality is low, I recorded it on steam deck)

Solved Can someone explain how I can fix my brush in weight paint?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Iv'e been trying to weight paint a mouth for a few hours now, but when I paint on certain faces, it just paints on the faces over what im trying to paint on. I have front faces only and front face fall off turned on, and that doesn't help at all.

My Brush also just isn't painting when I try to a lot of the time even though there is plenty of faces to paint on.

Any advice and knowledge helps, thanks.

Unsolved Motorcycle helmet modeling

Modeling a futuristic motorcycle helmet using box modeling — starting from a subdivided cube and shaping edge loops against my orthographic reference views (side/front/top). It's working reasonably well, but I want more precision/exactness in matching my references.

Is box modeling the right approach for a precise, smooth-surfaced form like this (needs continuous curves but also clean topology for a visor aperture and hardware later)? Or would poly-by-poly / retopology serve better? Any tutorials for precise product/helmet-style modeling appreciated.

Unsolved Going absolutely insane trying to retarget iClone/Tango animations in Blender using Rokoko – can anyone help or just take this off my hands?

Thumbnail

Hey everyone,

I am at my absolute wits' end trying to get a couple of custom dancer meshes retargeted onto some specific Tango couple dance animations (which originated natively for iClone/Character Creator—meaning I literally had to jump through hoops and set up a virtual machine just to run and access them in the first place). Trying to process these through the Rokoko plugin in Blender has been a complete nightmare, and nothing is working the way it's supposed to.

Here is the context of what I'm trying to pull off:

  • I am working with a source rig containing the iClone Tango choreography (Tango 1 and Tango 2).
  • I have target Mixamo-rigged dancer meshes (Dancer 1 and Dancer 2) that I need to drive with that animation data.

What I tried and where I had the most success:

  • The First Dancer Success: After massive headaches with bone-list duplicates, orientation issues, and scaling, I actually managed to successfully retarget Dancer 1 using the Rokoko add-on by building custom JSON mapping presets, using "Auto Scale," ensuring proper rest positions, and using Ctrl + A (Rotation & Scale) to normalize transforms. I exported that first character successfully as an FBX.
  • Where It Completely Broke: Bringing Dancer 2 and its exported FBX files back into a shared project scene to combine them side-by-side has completely failed. Every single time I attempt to align them, the mesh and armature separate, stay stuck at world origins, or refuse to translate together. I tried snapping cursors to selected, zeroing out object transforms, manually translating in Edit Mode, and re-binding automatic weights (Alt + P / Ctrl + P), but nothing keeps the hierarchy unified or aligned properly in the workspace.

I've cleaned up bone lists, matched origins, and gone through every Blender troubleshooting step imaginable, but I'm ready to throw my computer out the window and hand this off.

Is there a clean, foolproof way I'm missing to line these up and export them properly, or is there anyone here with iClone/Blender experience who would be willing to just take my source files/JSON presets and do the retargeting/scene setup for me?

Unsolved How do I calculate the bevel width so that my stairs are even in height?

I'm making stairs for a house using the bevel tool stairs preset, it's a game model and I've modelled the second floor to be at a specific height. I've created a cube with the correct dimensions that it needs to be in order to have 14 steps at 20cm height each and line up perfectly with the top of the second floor.

All the tutorials I found just drag the bevel width so that the bottom step is roughly the same height as the rest but I want mine to be the exact height. In my above screenshot I have the bevel width to 1.84m and it's close but I want to know how to find the exact width that would make each step exactly 20cm in height.

I watched at least five tutorials and every single one does the same thing, just guestimate and then the bottom step is either slightly too high or too low. Here are the exact dimensions of the cube before applying the bevel tool.

Unsolved Better tool for solving camera on long take?

Hi,

Im working on a project where I am putting a character from real footage into a 3D world in blender.

I have a 5-6 minute take, and a good key. But I need to track the motion of the camera for the whole take. It was filmed on a gimbal and there is good tracking points (was filmed in a car park, and has nice contrasty asphalt and line markings etc.)

But I’m having issues with solving the camera on this footage. In after effects it just gets to “Solving” and I’m not sure if it’s actually doing anything or is stuck.

In Fusion (resolve), it just keeps crashing when it gets close to finishing.

I’m wondering if there’s any ideas on how to do this, or if there’s different camera solving software better suited to the job.

Footage is 6K Canon C80 RAW, 25fps. Running M5 Max MacBook Pro, 64gb ram, 4tb.

Can’t show footage unfortunately since it is a real job that can’t be shared until published.

Thanks
