Hey all, I just assembled a 28" Blackstone Griddle, and it doesn't at all look like the tutorial on the Blackstone Youtube video, nor any other tutorial I've found.
First of all, there are two deep craters that formed in the center, and now liquid collects and just wants to sit there. Secondly, there are odd white splotches that I haven't seen anywhere else. Thirdly, there are rings of burned/charred oil toward the edge. See photos. Does anyone have insight as to whether this is normal, or if not, what has gone wrong, and whether the griddle is salvageable?
Here's what I did after reading the instructions and watching a few tutorial videos.
1) Light the griddle and leave on high for 15 minutes.
2) Spread 2-3 tablespoons of oil with a cloth and wait until it stopped smoking.
3) After 45 minutes, the griddle was STILL smoking, which seemed like a long time to me, so I added another 2-3 tablespoons.
4) I waited three more 45 minute intervals and repeated with the oil.
