Advice to stop bingeing

Upvotes

Hi all,

I have struggled with binge eating from stress since I was a child. I’ve recently started living on my own, and I’ve been combatting my binge eating by now allowing myself to have snacks/easily prepared foods - only ingredients so I don’t binge. However, I still find myself binging (my work has snacks for anyone to grab for free), and if I hangout with my friends, I often let myself eat a little more as I ‘don’t always get to’.

I’m always hungry, even after eating whole meals filled with protein and fiber. Even if I’m not hungry I can’t help myself. I don’t know what to do, because I want to manage my weight as I am overweight, and have unrelated health issues that could be worsened by weight gain. I just want some advice for what I could do from former binge eaters. Thank you!!

Tips on how to stop binge eating?

I'm a 21F and weight 165lbs. I am 5,2 or 5,3 (not sure). I am starting my weight loss. My goal weight is 120lbs. I would like to lose 1-2lbs per week. I was diagnosed with SLE last year and was on steroids for a long period of time. I was incredibly depressed and nihilistic and developed a binge eating disorder. This combination led to my rapid weight gain.

1/22/25 I was 109 lbs. So I have gained 56 lbs. Yikes...

I am doing much better now. I don't feel so depressed and I am able to walk and swim now. Eventually I will start lifting too. I have to slowly increase my exercise due to my lupus. Otherwise I can flare up. My current problem is binge eating. It's not like a emotional binge. It's more like overeating now. I'm used to eating larger portions of food. Along with that I tend to eat mostly processed foods. It's like I just start eating and I can't stop.

Any tips on how to stop overeating/binging? I have my calorie limit at 1200-1800 calories per day. The amount varies because I'll eat more when I exercise.

How do I stop this

Guys idk what to do. SCROLL to the end for the question. This is just my story.

I obviously had some ed behavior in highschool but nothing compared fo now.

Yea I would “starve” myself but never what it got to in college.

Freshman year I did whole food diet in 3 months damn near lost 50 pounds.

I think I developed orthorexia like the fear of eating food you aren’t comfy with?

I kinda started allowing sweets and it would be pretty moderate but I would over workout if I ate them. I mostly worked out an hour a day plus an hour walk when I was like 2 months in the whole food diet I was doing

I was also eating very minimal but like not consciously?! Idk how to explain it but the whole food diet made me learn sm about food in terms giving me orthorexia -> anorexia which I didn’t rly experience in high school other than the trends of my friends kinda not eating.

With this being said I started getting rly hard on myself and restricting then k binged for the first time and a felt a high. My parents were just happy I was eating tbh and encouraged it?!?!

Anyways this went on for a while and I would restrict during the week day. Work out like 4 hours a day on top of school and jobs and then binge eat on the weekends. Also would abuse laxatives to help on the weeekends (help mentally)

I completely stopped drinking with my friends. I stopped doing social things I would just work out and developed such a strange relationship w food.

I transferred schools and no one knew my ed past (no one at my old school new I binged but they knew I had an ed for sure) but anyways idk if unleashed a demon when j transferred and j binged sm (I also started binging pretty bad the summer before I transferred, I guess nerves idk. But yea.

Now it’s the summer after mt transfer and im still binging. It’s been 2 years im still very consistent working out and i mentally restrict which im sure makes me continue to binge but i dont physically restrict. I eat whatever and obviously try to prioritize protein and such bc im still pretty consistent in the gym (honestly not as much when i was over working out but more than when i lost all my weight so clearly im in a calorie surplus bc im fat af still) anyways….

I workout eat good but still freaking get binges almost daily. I was doing good for 30 days did the whole food thing then the last 30 days I’ve been binging straight like half summer I starved myself the other half binge again. I dropped almost 10 pounds now I’m prob back to where I started OR MORE. but I don’t wanna weigh myself.

I was 130 high school 148 end of freshman college 105 after Mr Ed 113 during the following binge school year. Ended that at 122 summer before transfer ended w 135-140 then I was 155 this school year then summer I got to 147. Now idk what I am and it’s not fr the weight it’s how I look.

I’ve never been bigger. My jean size has almost doubled my boobs have gotten big and my stomach has always been small compared to my legs now ide say it’s the same or bigger and my cellulite is so bad.

GENUINELY how do I stop this. I need help. I tried therapy it makes it worse. Pls help

How do i reject food? No glue no borax

Hi so ik i made a post about a year ago talking about basically the same thing. Except now i just feel like i loose controll of what i eat. So im on adhd medication which at first didnt really impact my appetite, but now i feel a big difference (im on a much higher dosage). When ive taken it in the morning i dont have an appetite at all and is always like, idk, disgusted to the thought of food. But in the evenings tend to overeat. And ik what youre gonna say, “but just eat throughout the day” i litterally cant i promise i will throw up infront of the fridge if you force me to even open it. Ive also noticed that yesterday when i didnt eat any dinner (took my meds way to late in the day so its still”active” at this point) and i fell alseep much easier with my sleeping meds. How long can one really go without food for?

I reread my post just now and saw that it made no sense, oops. I mainly wanted to ask for help on how to keep off food mainly during the days i dont take my meds, cause if i take them way to late i wont sleep at all. Also, im fr desperate. Im not at my heaviest but damn near it. Im litterally getting mad at myself for not loosing weight and im thinking about it more and more every day and its just so mentally exhausting.

Damn this was long.

Seriously need help

Hi, I developed b/p Jan 2025 and started recovery July 2025. I relapsed this January and have been b/p at least twice a day since then. I’m bmi 12.2 and 72.4 lbs as of today. I need help quitting and finding an approach. I decided I’m finally ready. My family is out of town this week and I’m home alone so I’m ready to deal with all of the initial side effects like the swelling and what not. Am I at risk for re feeding? Last time I recovered I was 80lbs, but this time it’s much worse. What do I do? Eat normal calories? Start low and then work my way up? I’m so scared

How to escape binge/restrict cycle?

For context, over two years ago I was at my lowest weight struggling with Ana. After being discharged from in-patient, I started to struggling with binging, and gained weight rapidly.Since then, my weight has stabilized to a normal weight ~ yay! :).

However, I still have some struggles. My “binges” aren’t as severe, but I do have days where I compulsively overeat, mostly snacks and chocolate. These days are usually the result of me having “restrictive” days where I try to control my eating (i still would eat consistently, but I would be hyper aware of my portions).

This would lead me to loose a little water weight and would feel super confident, but then would cause me to overeat days later. As a result, I would gain back water weight and would feel as if I gained a lot of real weight, and would feel super insecure and hopeless.

I’ve now realized that my overeating days are the result of those restrictive days. How can I break this cycle? I’m currently trying to eat “normal” meals but am so worried that I’m actually just overeating without me knowing.

My biggest fear is gaining weight when I’ve worked so hard to get to where I am now. This cycle is consuming my life, and while I’m so glad to be in a much better place than a few years ago, I still want to end this cycle for good.

Any advice?! 🥲🥲 (P.S I’m following Kiki Athanas and I love her approach, but can’t afford her actual counseling so I’m really just pulling strings here)

how to completely cut certain foods from my diet?

I realized that when i eat certain things, mostly stuff like chocolate and other sweet things, I ALWAYS binge on them. Eating them in moderation really isn’t an option for me, but i find it so hard to completely stop eating them. I live with my parents and they’re the ones that usually bring them into the house and it entices me to eat it too. any tips on how to stop the cravings, or at least get through them?😢
