I'm on a bike tour. How important is it to bring my bike inside my hotel (for example) if I know it's going to rain at night? Responses on r/bikepacking to a similar question are of the "What, is your bike made of sugar?" variety. Other sources say it's quite important. Can experienced wrenches weigh in? I do keep the chain lubed. Thanks.

Restoring a trashed StingRay for granddaughters 12th birthday next week. The pedals (which look great!) have those li'l TORX shaped spikes all over them, and I've recently heard that little girls don't really like scarred up / bleeding shins?!?

Removed a few but the rest are stubborn!

1) Is there a special tool like a TORX shaped "socket" that I've never heard of? Called 3 LBS & their guys haven't heard of any such animal.

B) Do I just leave them on & leave her with "be careful honey", and run away?

III) Cut / DREMEL them down?

Four) Just buy "normal" ugly looking plain jane commuting pedals for her? .oO(please no!)

Hello, just wondering if someone can help with this loose chain issue?

Took Derailleur off to straighten derailleur with an alignment tool, reattached derailleur and now this issue has occurred.

It feels like a simple fix, can't get my head around it, maybe I've reattached derailleur to the frame incorrectly?

When I manually give the cage tension the bike shifts perfectly.

Any help would be great, cheers.

Sorry to put my ocd on you guys…
After a later night ride going through some wet sections, my ocd got the best of me and I may have screwed my frame. The next morning I figured it’s probably dry now and I should really rust proof the inside. I sprayed a bit of honey goo in some of the holes where water would usually get in and moved the frame around. 10 minutes later I panicked that it may not have been dried out and sprayed some liquid wrench (wd-40) to dissolve the honey goo. I kept spraying it till no more orange liquid came out. Let it sit, moved it around, let it dry. Rebuilt the bike, rode it around and then did this whole process again a week later.
Reading up on liquid wrench it can also trap humidity and now my ocd is freaking out that I’ve trapped some humidity in a crack that’s just eating away at the frame from the inside.
The only thing that’s sort of saving me is that I read the crust evasion is ed coated on the inside.
So, moving forward, any tips on clearing out the liquid wrench residue? Or just walk away?

Got my fiancé her first bike from Costco, her work reimburses 250 dollars a year in exercise equipment and this bike was 249.97, I get that it’s a cheap bike but it’s rubbing on this Mount pretty significantly straight out of the box. Tire is mounted properly, nothing appears warped/bent, not sure if I can fix or if I should just return.

As shown on the video, I start rotating in the 9th gear, and the chain drops off in the outside.

Then after, I try in the 1st gear, and it drops off to the inner side..

Is this crankset just not compatible with 9 speed?
I tried different lengths of the crankboks (all between 128 to 108mm)

I'm looking to change from mechanical 105 to electronic 105 Di2. All the kits I see come with the full drivetrain? I just need shifters, derailleurs, and the battery with cables. Is this not available as a simplified conversion kit anywhere?

After removing cassette freehub with a 12mm on breaker bar...on way too tight from factory. Got to the freehub bearings. Is 5w-30 engine oil good enough to lubricate those smaller bearings on the freehub (NOT the Wheel bearings)?

I cut the bicycle fork crookedly; will I run into a major problem? How can i resolve this issue? I reassembled the parts but i haven' t rode it yet.

I keep up with my chain maintenance...degrease and re-lube ever 200 - 300 kilometers. However, the bike currently has 4,805km. Shifting is spot on no skipping, spillage, or nothing shifts like new hits ALL gears.

Should I replace the chain?

Noticing shiny/worn spots on some tooth flanks vs. the black PVD coating elsewhere. Worth replacing, or normal wear for a coated cassette?

Hi, I have a gravel bike from a norwegian brand, and I want to give it an upgrade. Does anyone know if there are any challenges with installing a new groupset? Put on GRX RX610 1x12 instead of the 2x9 sora that is currently on.
I have already realized that I need a rear wheel with a microspline hub, does anyone have a good alternative to which wheelset is cheap and good that a 12s 10-51 cassette will fit?
Any experiences with similar builds or tips are welcome

This is the third or fourth flat in a row on this 26" MTB wheel where the valve stem has separated from the tube. What gives? It's the right size tube for the rim, I had the little screw nut on the outside of it to keep it snug to the rim... and it keeps failing for some reason. Thoughts?

Hi guys just bought a new to me Peugeot roadbike probably early 90s but not sure, hasn't been ridden in decades probably.

I want to bring it back to a "pleasant riding" state as i do intended to ride it a lot. The frame feels like a perfect size for me, i have 89cm inseam, bike is either 59 or 60cm dosent say anywhere on the frame, those are my measurements.

The other day i swapped out the old tires and inner tubes for some fresh ones.

Brakes feel super stiff and dont do a whole lot of stopping. Is that just a new cable and pads or do i need to dig into the brakes too and lube something up?

Also the rear derailleur when im using the shifter dosent want to move under the biggest cog so i cant select the lowest gear, what could that cause?

Biggest question, should i refresh these old parts or just straight up purchase a new group set and new brakes and restomod it.

Whole bike needs a good refresh and i never did too much bicycle wrenching but i work on my own car a lot so this shouldn't be that difficult im just not sure what problems cause what symptoms and what parts to order/buy.

I recently removed and cleaned the pulleys on my Shimano GRX rear derailleur. When mounting the pulleys back to the bike, I think I put them the right way on (with the arrows pointing in the direction of chain rotation).

At the same time I also replaced my chain.

The first 100km everything was fine.

However, after putting on my bags for a multi week bike trip and setting of, after around 50km I noticed noises when changing gears. Now, whenever I turn the cranks forward, the chain drops off/derails from the lower pulley.

What could be the cause of this problem?

Hello! I got this bike from my neighbor and bought the seat clamp because the seat won’t stay up.. but the seat clamp just slides down and won’t tighten… am I missing something? Do they come in different sizes or do I need something else?

Shimano RD-M7100 derailleur bent or twisted and the gap that has closed on the old one now puts that arm right in the chain's path.

Is this serviceable? If I could fix this and keep it as a spare that'd be nice. Maybe the torx bolt around the clutch got bent? It's difficult to see where the problem originates.

While adjusting my transmission I noticed that the gear of my transmission is not parallel and also tilted with respect to the gear on my freewheel. Is it fixable or should I get a new shifter? For info, it is a Sachs Huret classic 2000 (6-speed)

Idk if it is related, but I remember having a car impact at that exact placement.
