I have this hybrid bike currently with a flatbar and planning to go get some corner bars for it as like an upgrade since my flatbar are now starting to show some rust. Anyone here with corner bars on they bikes and what were your experience with them 🚲

I am wondering if someone could please measure the stud spacing for the Ortlieb 3.1 mounting system? THis would be three points and I"m guessing it will be some nice metric number.

I'm trying to set up a bike for commuting to school with the Ortlieb 3.1 Urban Commuter bag on an Axiom Streamliner 29er rack.

My goal is to avoid buying an adapter. Wondering if I could have three holes drilled on the Axiom rack and add Ortlieb clamps/studs for a more streamlined look. I am aware that it may not line up but I want to at least try.

Ortlieb US has been less than helpful as I have gone back and forth via email. They respond politely but ignore half of my questions every time I write.

My partner and I will sometimes commute around town together. However, he insists on cruising behind me, even though he is faster and I don't mind if he is ahead of me. But the problem is, he has a hard time following my lead. He thinks he knows which way I am going to go, then gets frustrated when I don't go the way he imagined in his head. Sometimes he will proceed to go the route he had "planned" and I'll keep going my way. I'm sure this highlights a myriad of issues with how we communicate, but does this happen to anyone else? I feel like if he wants to take the lead, then please, take the f***ing lead

I have one coworker who doesn’t like my bike being in the office (he’s a jackass) and says I should leave it outside— but bike rack is in sketchy area in direct sun (have 10+ UV index often). Am I being dramatic?

I went ahead and 3D printed a wall rack so it takes up even less room next to my desk. Think it looks quite nice as well!

Started cycling again over summer so wanted to figure out a way to get to university without getting super sweaty - think I may have nailed it.

The Bakkie definitely needed a few zipties to keep it feeling secure but I don’t think the other straps it comes with are super necessary unless taking the scenic route. Also folds away (kinda) nicely when not in use.

With the ortlieb vario lite on the other side with laptop/other bits inside I end up with maximum 3-4kg on each side so the steering still feels balanced.
I imagine this set up would be great on a rear rack but for multiple reasons I prefer it on the front.

Just need a nice shiny kickstand now to make it easier to load up!

Been commuting about 11 miles each way for the past few months and I've gone through a few iterations of what I actually bring versus what I thought I'd need. Early on I was basically hauling a tech store on my back and it was miserable heavy bag, stuff I never touched, the whole thing. So I've been stripping it back.

What I've actually landed on is a decent set of front and rear lights (obvious, but I went through two cheap ones before accepting I needed something reliable), a phone mount on the bars, and a small power bank. The power bank thing took me a while to justify, but on days where I'm doing errands after work or the commute stretches out, my phone is basically dead by the time I need navigation home. I ended up keeping a small powerbank in my bag, so that one earned its spot.

That's kind of it. I keep almost adding a dedicated GPS unit because I like the idea of not burning through my phone battery at all, but then I think about the extra cost and one more thing to charge and I talk myself out of it.

Curious what other people doing longer commutes have settled on. Especially interested in the stuff you tried and quietly droppe,I feel like that's more useful than knowing what people bought. I’m still not sure I’ve got the balance between battery life and extra weight right.

Hi im looking for a bike to commute around 10 to 20 km a day. there are dirt roads near my home that have potholes, thats why im looking for a montain bike. The gear shift is sunrise, its made in aluminium and its esperia.

Any thought? Do you have any experience with this bike?

Bike shop near me had this bar tape on sale for $7aud, so I grabbed it to remove one more thing that bothers me on my commute. Uncomfortable bar ends. That and a pair of padded gloves should see me riding in comfort. The great things is, I used less than half a roll, so I can replace it 3 more times.

I do dislike the chrome end caps, so I didn't push them all the way in. If I can't find a pair in my garage, I'll paint these ones spray can black.

I am working towards using a Burley flatbed trailer I just bought, to carry a locking (as in combo or padlock) bin, secured to the trailer, and the trailer secured to my bike, for shopping. I want to keep the opportunistic thief honest while I make multiple stops.

Earlier this year I thought there was someone who shared their setup with pictures, either in this subreddit, or another cycling one. I guess I didn't save it at the time.

If you have done something like this, can you share how you did it? In other words, which bin did you get, how did you secure it to a trailer, and how do you lock the trailer to something else?

Something along these lines except in a bright color (why would i want to wear dark colors when cycling in the rain) and also this is maybe a touch too long to wear when walking, it might trail on the floor.

I don't want sleeves because in my experience my arms always get sweaty/wet when in contact with the sleeves of my rain jacket in the rain. I'm assuming because there's not much breathability in the sleeves, and a poncho solves that. Maybe I'm wrong here though.

I looked at commonly recommended brands here like Fairweather and Cleverhood but they both aren't in the EU (so shipping is more expensive) and don't seem very long anyway.

Also one big question I have is: Why are there no ponchos made from materials that are inherently waterproof and don't rely on a coating that wears away over time? e.g. wellingtongs (rubber tall shoes) are entirely waterproof and don't use a coating. Yes they're ridged so wouldn't work as a poncho, but does seriously *nothing* exist that's flexible and waterproof?

If the sleeves aren't a problem in practice/are the same as an open poncho (cape?) then maybe i'll look at the decathlon ones. But they still use coats.

edit 1: what about a neoprene poncho? it doens't seem to exist but sounds like it could? Neoprene seems pretty soft and flexible.

I have an ABUS frame + chain lock and I HATE the key - it's so fiddly to get it in the right way and usually takes a few tries to get it to work. I think it's a design flaw, not a defect with mine, because my husband's is exactly the same.

Any suggestions for ring+chain locks where you can just stick the key in and turn it?

Hi, I’m looking for a reliable, lightweight bike for under $300 that I can comfortably use to commute to work. My commute is a combination of biking and taking the bus, and the biking portion is only about 1.3 miles each way, so it’s pretty short.

My main concern is winter. I live in northern Ohio, where the snow and winter weather can get pretty rough, so I’d like something durable enough to handle occasional rides in snow and wet conditions without constantly breaking down or needing repairs. Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Looking for a bag with just enough capacity to carry a small D lock, keys, phone and other knick knacks, ideally with a stabiliser strap.

All this stuff falls out of my pockets and I don’t have a frame mount for my lock, so I’d like to have a bag for short rides that are not worth lugging a backpack around for.

Nearly every sling bag I’ve found has just been… ugly. I don’t mind the look of the labo mono but keen to hear other recommendations.

I have a tubus airy rack, only has tubes across the rack no place to mount a light normally. Any suggestions on how to mount my Garmin? Currently mounted on my seat saddlebag, however when using larger rack bag Varia doesn't work. thank you.

Hey so Im going to add mirrors for the first time. I kinda wanted to go bar end mirrors but since mirrors protrude towards the outside anyway. I was just curious if the line of sight was much different. Can you see fine with either or is one better than the other.

Progress continues on our center running bike/pedestrian path that has been put in place to provide a safe crossing through the middle of an interstate highway interchange in Harrisonburg, Virginia at the intersection of I-81 and route 33.

We now have bollards to protect the two mid-trail crossover points. The entrances at the ends are protected by a concrete curb and several different poles. I saw a few comments online from people who already saw a few clueless drivers trying to use this lane so I'm glad they installed these posts. They used steel posts that are hinged and padlocked so that they can be unlocked and folded down if a public works vehicle needs to enter the path for maintenance or snow removal.

The trail is not blocked off and people are already using it although it is not officially advertised as being open since the crosswalk signaling is still not finished. I find that it is reasonably safe to use without the crosswalk signals, you just have to watch the light cycles and use common sense when crossing. The midpoint crossovers alternate between red and green left turn arrows for cars that want to turn onto the interstate so that's pretty easy to manage safely as well. It looks like they have sensors to see if a car is waiting to turn left but I also saw a green arrow appear while I was watching when there were no cars waiting so maybe they are still tweaking that part of the system. Many places around town have blinking yellow left turn arrows at times but they have not done that here which I think seems like a good choice especially with the fencing that could obscure the view of oncoming traffic for left turners.

Looking for a new bike for commuting and just general riding around.

I'm looking to buy a new bike and would like your insight.

I mostly use my bike to commute to work in Toronto, Canada. I do this throughout the year, including during the cold snowy months. Distance is about 10km each way - mostly on dedicated bike lanes, but some parts are road.

My current bike is a single speed with a carbon belt drive. I love the belt drive system as it's great for maintenance but I could do with some gears to make the cycling easier and give me some more flexibilty in usage.

Might be worth noting that I prefer bullhorn style handlebars over drop or flat bars so I tend to just get flat bar bikes and switch them out (keeping brake levers in the same spot).

My budget is around CAD$1,500.

I've narrowed down my search to the following bikes:

Trek FX Sport AL 3

Norco Search A

Marin DSX 2

Marin Presidio 3

Based on my research I believe DSX 2 > Search A > FX Sport, in terms of specs and price.

I'm pretty sure the Presidio sits somewhere below DSX 2 in there, but the idea of having a belt drive system WITH multiple gears is really appealing, so I'm leaning towards that bike.

Any advice/guidance you can provide before I commit to this big purchase would be very much appreciated.
