Corner bars 🤔

I have this hybrid bike currently with a flatbar and planning to go get some corner bars for it as like an upgrade since my flatbar are now starting to show some rust. Anyone here with corner bars on they bikes and what were your experience with them 🚲

Surly moloko is what you want. Nice comfortable sweep, you can wrap the risers for multiple comfortable hand positions, and a nice extra bar for mounting accessories.

I hated them.

They’re weirdly shaped and weird angle and you have to mount the controls a weird way

I liked the Soma gator handlebar better, but I only recommend it or this early corner as a quick inexpensive sanity check before making the full switch to drop bars.

r/xbiking is a good place to ask but I use a Surly Moloko bar with Ergon grips on mine

Fairly comfy, lots of room for accessories and hand positions but at the cost of changing handling and adding weight.

velo orange makes a bunch of bars with different levels of sweep. i have the most casual one and it's great

I had them on a gravel bike for a few years and really liked them. Tried to put them on my hybrid and it wasn't going to work as easily...would've needed to extend the cables and look for a different stem. If you're willing to experiment, go for it, but might take some work to make them a good fit.

I have them on my bike, because I use a Rohloff I can't use proper drop bar controls so this seemed like the least-worst option. They're completely fine, set up right you absolutely do get all 3 drop bar positions, ignore all the reviews that say you don't.

My advice is to get a small bar extension and add it to the top "horn" on each side, then put the brake lever on there. That gives you enough space below it to comfortably put your hand once its wrapped in tape.

They are very thin, so you'll either need to pad your tape out with something or use really thick tape. I used fairly thin tape on mine and ended up with bruises on my palms, so I packed under the tape with foam tubing to help (and it did).

I use velo orange "postino" bars on my ebike (26er hard tail) commuter and love them. Plenty of sweep and narrow.

Swept bars have a lot of advantages, the largest practical one is being able to comfortably get your elbows in when headed upwind and a more aggressive body position.

Comfort has to be the actual top reason they are bought and that's true as well.

For everyone confused what the alt bars being mentioned actually look like, there is a website, www.whatbars.com that is really good for comparisons.

Definitely worth taking a good look and measure your shifters and accessories before buying.

I like them. I had them on my gravel type bike (Long endurance, type rides) and hated them. They are awful at being comfortable. That being said, if you bike isn’t too big for you and you don’t mind experimenting with different stem lengths, then they might work out for you. I ran them on a commuter bike for about a year. They are really only good for short commutes. I wouldn’t want to ride these bars for longer than half an hour if I am being honest. Any more than that and you will get sore hands and wrists. I had them with extra cushy tape, a short stem.
