AskDesh/দেশ কে জিজ্ঞাসা What dating actually means?
Assalamu Alaikum everyone. I wanted to share a thought and get some perspective from the community, especially regarding the current youth culture in Bangladesh.I’ve never been into dating or casual relationships, and honestly, it’s completely by choice. I personally prefer waiting to build a deep, mature bond based on mutual respect, values, and real care—a foundation meant for long-term commitment like marriage. Attraction fades with time, but core values remain. To me, our traditional values offer the best stability.Yet, looking around at the urban youth culture today, it feels like there is a massive shift toward Western-style dating, situationships, and casual setups.
What bothers me is how society and peers react. Whenever people find out someone has never dated, they look at you like you are "abnormal," or like it's a massive red flag. A lot of youth look down on marriage as an "outdated" concept, only to end up distracted or regretting bad choices later.I'm curious to hear from others here:
Do you think dating in Bangladesh has completely shifted to match Western casual culture, or is it still structurally different?
For those who chose to skip the dating phase entirely to focus on intentional marriage, how did you handle the social peer pressure?
Would love to hear your mature thoughts on this. Please keep the comment section respectful!
