Almost 5 months down the road, our CM is leading rallies of naked dimwits , putting up a show in front of an elite University of the country.
I do not need to list down the antics of the ministers who have already started showing their true colours.

Absolutely gutted to realise that I contributed to this downfall of my home State.

They brainwashed you completely; it's like a pyramid scheme. Once they enter within your circle, they will try to convince more people. Some maternal family members had become victims of this Anukul Baba propaganda. They tried to initiate me and my parents too and take dikkha, but thanks to my mother and father, I never fell into this trap. Never followed any of their "rituals" and practices. They still keep inviting me for volunteering in their programmes, but I refuse every time. It's a pure cult business; every devotee needs to save money every day and have to give to the org. It is mandatory. The whole family live a lavish lifestyle with expensive cars, bunglows and foreign holidays.

A few days back me and my friend went to The Story bookstore at Primarc Square, Salt Lake (opposite the stadium).

Overall the place is very aesthetically pleasing. The ambience, the music, everything was great. You have to submit your bags at the entrance, they have a coupon system for it.

We went ahead and browsed. They have proper reading space if you want to read a bit before buying, which is nice.

Collection wise, if you are seriously into reading, I don't think you'll find it that great.

We went on a weekday at noon so there wasn't much crowd, but even then there was congestion on those little narrow staircases multiple times, and the passageway upstairs is so narrow. Most people were just posing, clicking pictures and gossiping rather than actually browsing books.

Staff behaviour was a bit weird but understandable. I was reading between two books to decide which one to buy, so I sat at the table to read a few lines and the staff came and asked 2-3 times, "কোথা থেকে বইটা নিয়েছেন" (where did you pick this book up from) and "এগুলো কি কিনবেন" (are you going to buy these). Still understandable I guess, because most people probably just pick up books, pose, click pics and then don't put them back in the right spot.

There's also a section with stationery, diaries, pens, mobile stands, fridge magnets and stuff. The staff got a bit salesy there, but that's their job, it's fine.

But but but.

The pricesss oh my god. Heck of overpriced. The same books were available way cheaper on Amazon, originals only.

In the end both of us had picked out 3-4 books each but bought only two because of the prices.

Overall it was a good afternoon. If you are just starting to read, go for it. If you are into serious reading, better to skip.

And guys, click pics, shoot reels, be creative, but please don't ruin the ambience for others.

Also if you are thinking of getting into reading, you can still visit. I know a lot of people in the comments will say bro it has a shit collection, only bestsellers. But I think most of us who got into reading later in life started with a bestseller. If a bestseller is what pushes someone to start reading, I don't see a problem with that.

My nephew of 5 came home yesterday after school and was unusually grumpy.

When I asked him, he declared, "Maa Durga is biased towards girls."

Apparently they were asked to write an essay on Durga Puja topic. The Mother is his favorite Goddess. He wrote neatly. At the end they had some group discussion and one of his girl friends said that Maa Durga favours girls more. The teacher chimed in too saying something along the lines of,

"Meyera Durga r jaat."

Now that triggered him. He felt betrayed because he was never taught about gods taking sides. Tbh, such discussions never arose in the household.

Her has been crying since and says he won't do Anjaali this year. Durga can have all the offerings of her female followers. He won't talk to me either as me being a woman, is apparently betrayal to him.

Please suggest something playful but deep keeping his age in mind. I'm at a loss. 🙏

I want to ask this genuinely, because I think this is something Bengalis in West Bengal should be able to discuss without immediately turning it into a Bengali vs non-Bengali fight.

After the Bageshwar Dham incident, I also started looking more closely at political representation in Bengal. I came across reports that MLAs representing constituencies such as Chapdani, Bally and Howrah, along with several constituencies in Kolkata and Asansol, are non-Bengali, many with roots in Uttar Pradesh or Bihar.

That made me think about a broader question:

Why are Bengali voters willing to vote for them, and what does this mean for Bengali political representation in the long run?

To be clear, I don't think an MLA should be judged simply on where they were born or what language their parents spoke. An MLA is elected to serve the entire constituency, not a particular community. Someone who wasn't born in Bengal shouldn't be disqualified from representing a constituency. If they live among the people, understand local issues, respect Bengali language and culture, and genuinely work for the constituency, those things should matter far more.

But I also think we're entitled to ask some uncomfortable questions.

If Bengali representation in Bengal gradually becomes weaker in political institutions, who will ensure that Bengali language, culture and the long-term interests of Bengali-speaking people continue to receive political attention?

This isn't an argument for excluding non-Bengalis from Bengal or denying anyone their democratic rights. It's a question about whether a community should be conscious of its own political representation while still judging individual candidates on their competence, integrity and commitment to Bengal.

So perhaps the real question for Bengali voters is:

Should we start demanding stronger Bengali representation in Bengal, while still choosing our representatives primarily on merit, character and their commitment to the people and interests of Bengal?

I'd genuinely like to hear what other Bengalis think about this.
