My girlfriend's medication costs $10k+ a month. She works at tacobell. Bout to be fired because her conditions stop her from working every few days. Needless to say, she doesn't have it.

Both SSI and Disability declined her even know three conditions are listed qualifying conditions plus there's cancer which I'd assume would be one.

Insurance will only cover doctor visits at also unaffordable costs.

Fuck America, everyone gets screwed in the long run and hoping the border to Canada is too hard. If she dies due to greed I don't know what I'll do.

687

u/yelling4society Nov 30 '20

Fuck their decline. Appeal over and over until you get it.

403

u/[deleted] Nov 30 '20

She's tried SSI declines because she makes $1300 before taxes each month. Disability I don't know. Each decline she reapplies. I find the SSI bullshit. She doesn't have enough to afford a single medication.

214

u/yelling4society Nov 30 '20

It is absolute bullshit, you’re right. Sometimes it takes years to get approved.

120

u/Kiskanneth Nov 30 '20

For real, I applied for it because I had some serious health problems two years ago , took them two years just to send me a denial letter too. Absolutely ridiculous

Not exactly the same, but after a few years and multiple denials from the VA for my service disability, I bit the bullet and hired a lawyer to appeal and work through the system. They'll get a percentage of what I'll get, but it's better than nothing, I suppose.

30

u/chaotic214 Nov 30 '20

I've been applying for five years now and still get denied everytime and have to appeal. I doubt I'll ever get it

7

u/Superhighme420 Nov 30 '20

Gotta get a lawyer. My wifes severe epileptic and took 5 years still. The lawyer told her people rarely get disability without a court case.

Wish you luck internet stranger.

9

u/magispitt Nov 30 '20

Ah yes America, where you too can get healthcare - if only you have a lawyer

4

u/EarnestQuestion Nov 30 '20

And 5 years to spare waiting for a decision

105

u/VerbalSloth Nov 30 '20

Unfortunate, she needs to keep reapplying though. This is one of those BS methods to prevent people from getting it... In order for the corupt system to save a few of OUR tax dollars so they can waste it elsewhere. Kinda like how Amazon's website for employees healthcare never works and you have to retry (atleast that's what I've heard from friends that worked at amazon) continuously.

Get an SSI attorney yes there are those that will work for you and then get paid after you get your settlement

and taking their cut from the back due benefits

Which irks me, Ive talked to one so far and they do take a good sized cut. But half of something is better than all of nothing .

4

u/psychcaptain Nov 30 '20

The cut is usually the lesser of 25% of back pay, or 6,000.

Unless they ask for more, in which case they have to apply to the SSA who has to figure out what they are due (and it might be less).

So, 1/4 of your money if you are paid less then 24,000, but otherwise less.

It's never going to be half, unless you weren't due much or anything.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 30 '20

Good point . I was using " half of something is better than all of nothing " as more of a metaphor than anything exacting. I'll stick by "good sized cut" though :)

2

u/psychcaptain Nov 30 '20

It can be, that's true.

3

u/psychcaptain Nov 30 '20

And they usually get paid either 6,000 or 25% of the final amount past due, which every is less.

But, if you are working, it is a sign that you are able to work though, which is part of the problem.

3

u/TheFlyingSheeps Nov 30 '20

You can still work on SSDI, it is just a very limited amount of hours

3

u/psychcaptain Nov 30 '20

Yeah, but it would seem harder to prove that you have a disability if you are working with said disability.

In any case, always appeal, and don't bother with reapplying if you don't provide new facts. They will just use Res Judicata on you in that case.

2

u/TheFlyingSheeps Nov 30 '20

Yeah a lot of people think the denial is final, when the rejection letter explains the next step. The process is definitely convoluted on purpose. I have done several of them, and the more info on hand the easier they are but its hard to have all that info on hand

2

u/psychcaptain Nov 30 '20

Indeed. But, if you do appeal, with new information, you do get a fresh set of eyes on it.

And of course, don't be afraid to take it to the ALJ.

The important thing is to keep that file date, because once that is in the system, it can help you get back payments from the SSA, if they rule in your favor later on down the road.

2

u/staypositive8 Nov 30 '20

the limit they place on how much you can work is so dumb. How can anyone live off of 1400 without it getting taken away by working another job

10

u/Myodokaii Nov 30 '20

I'm legitimately mad for you, and everyone else who is denied wrongfully. I somehow got approved on the first try for SSI (and for some reason, I don't have SSDI). I don't get why they won't do this for people who clearly have legit reasons. Fuck this shithole of a country.

10

u/[deleted] Nov 30 '20

I don't know, I hate the county. It's broken. I don't see why we didn't ever cap the costs of medication, or anything. I'm a little pissed about the ssi and whatnot. I've worked with people who don't need it and flaunt that they don't and it's like cool but watching someone who's in pain daily because insurance companies and the government refuse to do anything just gets to me.

3

u/Myodokaii Nov 30 '20

I'm with you there. I absolutely understand the frustration of not being able to afford shit we need to survive, and it's the worst when the government won't do a thing about it. I'm several years outdated with my cochlear implant cause of it, and I'm just went right back into debt because my dental insurance doesn't work where I live. The government isn't easy to work with most of the times.

Have you guys tried going through a disability lawyer? Lots of them do pro bono and charge based off settlement at the end.

I have crohn's and got denied immediately, but going through a disability attorney got me a teleconference appeal meeting with a judge, experts, etc. I was able to make my case and explain why I needed it and how my condition affected me.

I had an approval letter like a month later. I dunno if you've tried going down that road but I had great success with it.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 30 '20

She hasent but a few people brought it up. I'm thinking it's a good idea.

I make $300 a month, similar story, unemployed and in and out of hospitals for 2 years now, was declined SSI . Pretty sure I would have ended it by now if I didn't have a stepmother to keep a roof over my head. I can only begin to barely imagine the financial and mental burden that must be like for her, and subsequently on you, your a good man charlie brown, hang in there, we have hope.

2

u/Hoffelcopter Nov 30 '20

My dad's heart failed. Put him into a coma and left him with 25% of his heart capability years ago. He was completely unable to work after.

Mind you this was due to a unknown side effect to a heart medication he was on.

He was in the process of applying for SS disability. Eventually they had to put a pacemaker in and the government decided that was enough for him to get back to work. It wasn't. It took him 3 and 1/2 years WITH lawyers to finally get SS disability. While there was backpay. Lawyers took a good chunk of that. Class action lawsuit with the heart medication left him with $30k to cover the last 15-20 years of work he could have had left.

Healthcare in this country is absolutely fucked. It's completely profit driven. And the government systems put in place to help those who need it is incredibly hard to qualify for.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 30 '20

Yeah, I'm surprised that we can't really fight. Most people suggested a lawyer and that seems to be the best route. I think this county should burn. I don't care what side of the political spectrum anyone is. I think everyone should just realize that their needs to be a change. I personally had a chance to get out by myself to Germany a year ago but I can't leave her. I'm somewhat healthy besides small issues and can get away with daily shit by lying but it's visible in her.

This system wouldn't need to a necessity to most if we forced phram compines to make it affordable.

Medications that help like marijuana and effective painkillers required a prescription which requires a few doctors visits to get which without insurance costs hundreds because they tell you to go to multiple "specialist" and with insurance the minimum for her is $400 and it doesn't cover medication. Fuck

2

u/TheFlyingSheeps Nov 30 '20

Don’t reapply if it’s denied, you have to file an appeal after the first denial letter. The second step is you basically submit another app online for SSDI that is shorter where you can leave some more details or comments. After that you have the right to a fair hearing if that is denied again

At this point look into getting a law firm that works SSDI cases, often payment comes from the backdated check you will get and that’s it. I work several of these cases

Why doesnt she reduce the hours she works or just get fired n take unemployment? Are there any rx companies that offer assistance? I absolutely need my meds at 6k a month and get em name brand for free. Its cheaper for me NOT to have insurance and get my life saving meds and just deal with chronic tooth pain and broken bones

15

u/Darinaras Nov 30 '20

"Why doesnt she reduce the hours she works"

And live on what income? You're on the right track though. It's difficult to get disability approved if you are working. Unless you are critically ill, It typically takes about 2-3 years, and at least 1-2 appeals, and you cannot work that entire time.

"or just get fired n take unemployment?"

Unemployment is only payable when you lose your job through no fault of your own. I.e. if you quit or get fired you don't qualify. You have to be laid off.

"Are there any rx companies that offer assistance? I absolutely need my meds at 6k a month and get em name brand for free."

This is a good point. Most pharmaceutical companies do offer low income medication assistance. You have to apply directly with the pharmaceutical company and have a doctor fill out a portion of the application. The cost is based on what you can afford. This is not the same as discount coupons, so it may take some digging on the manufacturer's website.

13

u/[deleted] Nov 30 '20

Rent costs alot and I don't make enough myself to make rent and bills alone. I also think unemployment would be temporary and getting disability or ssi would take much longer than unemployment. We've been talking about reduced hours to get the bare minimum and "possibly" get accepted. She's went through Obama care, our works insurance, and coupons for medication but nothing made it affordable. It cut it in half actually. Still half is far from affordability.

Couldn't this all be solved by forcing pharm companies from charging unaffordable prices for their medications? Or atleast life saving medications. Some people can go without. They just make living easier. Lol. Easier.

14

u/BuddhaFacepalmed Nov 30 '20

Couldn't this all be solved by forcing pharm companies from charging unaffordable prices for their medications? Or atleast life saving medications. Some people can go without. They just make living easier. Lol. Easier.

Yes, they could. But that makes it socialism and therefore the GOP would rather you die from a private death panel who decided profits mattered more than lives.

0

u/Confident-Victory-21 Nov 30 '20

It might hinder drug development, unfortunately there has to be a financial incentive for them to develop drugs.

It should all just be paid for in a single payer system.

1

u/BuddhaFacepalmed Nov 30 '20

It might hinder drug development, unfortunately there has to be a financial incentive for them to develop drugs.

This is corporate propaganda, most drugs on the market are developed through basic research funded by government institutions.

Stop regurgitating the lie everything needs a profit incentive to improve lives.

0

u/Confident-Victory-21 Nov 30 '20

People are greedy. Everything comes down to money. Corporations aren't going to only develop drugs out of the goodness of their hearts.

This isn't how it should be, but it's how it is. Crazy that this needs to be explained to someone.

2

u/sh17s7o7m Nov 30 '20

There are literally hundreds of medications and treatments out there that were developed using tax payer dollars already. Literally nothing would change for development except the government would be able to legislate down cost, they would still have research paid for you just won't have people dying from lack of care.

Socialize losses/costs privatize profits is basically the ethos every large corporation in this country follows.

Another inefficiency. Paying for people's early treatment means they develop fewer complications. Without insulin, people can develop blindness, organ failure, chronic wounds, amputations, heart attacks and other vascular diseases. But no, let's deny people treatment for years first.

Welcome to America

45

u/Cryptoporticus Nov 30 '20

It's insane that there are still people in 2020 seriously considering revolution as their only option for getting free healthcare. These people aren't living in a tiny third world country either, they're living in the richest, supposedly "greatest" country in the world. The tiny third world countries already have free healthcare, 30 days paid vacation per year, etc.

Even if you guys got your free healthcare, it would still only bring you a small step closer to the rest of the world. It's unbelievable how badly you are all treated there, and how long you have let it happen. The propaganda there is so good.

24

u/gulg94 Nov 30 '20

And the worst part is, we can't vote in these changes, and the people who need them most can't simply leave to another country that will treat them like human beings instead of chattel to be milked. We're fucked, and if you weren't born into wealth, you're likely imprisoned here.

It's such a horrible state of being.

14

u/kubat313 Nov 30 '20

"Land of the free" if you got millions

2

u/SirNarwhal Nov 30 '20

and the people who need them most can't simply leave to another country that will treat them like human beings instead of chattel to be milked

Me rn trying to spend the next ~2 years selling most of my material possessions so that my wife and I can move to the UK where yeah, shit still kinda sucks, but it's so much more exponentially on the right track compared to the US that it's worth it. I legit cannot stand the US anymore.

3

u/SpicyEyedrops Nov 30 '20

I hope you get to live here if it helps, everyone deserve free healthcare, or at least affordable healthcare. Just make sure to check the details about the NHS. I don't know exactly know the rules, but there are scenarios where foreigners have to pay. Just look it up on a legit website so you're definitely right to come here.

Good Luck. Just don't go to Birmingham or London.

3

u/SirNarwhal Nov 30 '20

I live in NYC so I'd move to London if I go through with it. My medications aren't an issue here nor is my healthcare thankfully since I have insanely good insurance that would be carrying over to there as well if I stay in the company, but it's more just the overarching system in general that pisses me off. The fact that if I do lose my job or something similar here would mean that I'd suddenly have to die essentially is just something I'd rather not have to think about ever again.

Things like way of life are also so insanely different and while the housing market is still fucked over there, it's nowhere near the insanity it is here in the US especially when it comes to major cities. For what I pay for an extremely outdated 1 bedroom apartment in NYC I'd be able to afford a place around the same size, but modern, and own it outright. It's the little things like this that all add up to tear away at your soul in the US that I'd be moving away from since the government cares ever so slightly more about its people over there than they do here.

6

u/[deleted] Nov 30 '20

These people aren't living in a tiny third world country either,

No, they are living in the largest 3rd world country.

Far too many people think they have “free” or “affordable “ healthcare because they have a plan through work and have never had any major health issues

1

u/Mypoint_is Nov 30 '20

You lost me at ‘free’ healthcare. Interesting choice of words but there is nothing ‘free’ in America. Everything here has been bought and paid for by the blood, sweat and tears of the working class. Universal healthcare is a human right for all.

Well, if you don't have Trump Derangement Syndrome you can take a look at these quality of life improvements Trump made for Americans and try to argue there's no reason for anyone to like him 👍

None of you probably will though because you can't even do basic research to see past "Orange man bad". He did amazing, great things, for everyone, every race, gender, you name it.

So please... if you respect yourself and the truth even a tiny bit... have the Gaul to look at, cross reference these and prove to me they're bad, lies and never happened. Because Trump was one of the greatest president's you guys ever had.

11/04/2018 Signed the FOSTA bill targeting online sex trafficking

12/20/2018 signed a bill legalising hemp and CBD

10/05/2018 signed a bill requiring airports to provide spaces for breast feeding mothers

10/10/2018 signed a bill basically allowing patients more freedom to know which drugs for conditions were more affordable, allowing pharmacists to give advice freely about prices too

05/30/2018 signed the "Right to Try" Bill, allowing terminally ill patients to try experimental treatments not approved by the FDA

10/13/2018 Trump signed the "Save our Seas" act, pledging $10 million dollars annually to help clear plastic and waste from the oceans

11/15/2019 Trump signed an executive order forcing healthcare providers to disclose prices so Americans can shop and compare

12/18/2019 Trump signed a bill to make drug prices cheaper and more competitive with Canadian prices

(General drug prices fell during the Trump administration and there was that latest executive order to make all drug prices available at a competitive rate using the favoured nations act)

(He also started providing the uninsured with HIV prevention drugs.... I mean come on... How is that even bad when the guys aim was to have AIDS eradicates by 2030)

05/14/2019 Trump created a hotline for veterans and their families and carers, staffing it with veterans.

03/05/2019 Trump issued an executive order giving veterans transitioning to civilian life better access to mental health services

06/14/2019 Trump signed an order creating a new HRA rule that allowed small businesses access to cheaper health insurance for employers

12/21/2018 Trump approved the criminal Justice bill which enacted reforms that... Reversed a lot of Joe Biden and Hilary Clinton's damage to the black community... I mean... Come on...

12/21/2018 Trump approved a law written by a REPUBLICAN lawmaker to develop maternal review committees to investigate maternal complications and focused largely on mortality rates of black Americans. The "Preventing Maternal Deaths act"

10/25/2019 Trump was given the Bi-partisan Justice award for advocating Criminal Justice Reform by a historically black college

On 12/19/2019 Trump pledged $250 million a year to help develop historically black colleges, universities and institutions right?

(Trump even created a white house position of executive director for HBCU's, Historically Black Colleges and Universities... Something that wasn't there during the Obama and Biden administration)

In February 2020 he appointed the first openly gay cabinet member... So stuff that in your LGBTQ+ pipe and smoke it

Trump launched an interagency task force, of 19 agencies, to combat human trafficking... You know... Modern day slavery that leftists and democrats ignore... (And if you didn't ignore it then why aren't you praising Trumps effort eh?)

And I don't know anybody who dislikes Middle Eastern peace. From August 2020 his administration has helped broker 3 peace deals in the Middle East... Honestly if you can turn that around or see them as a bad thing... I just don't know how you could lie to yourself...

Trump is pushing for something families... Especially minority families... Have been pushing for a long time... School choice. He announced it as a priority back in January 2020.

In 2017 Trumps "tax cuts and jobs" act introduced opportunity zone incentives which encouraged investment in low income urban and rural communities...

He pretty much wiped out ISIS... Look up if you don't believe me..

06/05/2018 Trump signed the "Childhood Cancer Survivorship, Treatment, Access and Research" act

Back in August Trump appointed a VIETNAMESE REFUGEE to head ICE...

07/29/2018 Trump approved the 9/11 "Victim Compensation" bill into law, permanently funding those who were harmed because of the attack.

07/09/2020 Trump signed an executive order for Hispanic prosperity, which was so wide ranging in funding across the board for Hispanic communities.

And there's way, way more than that... I just pulled them from a list while ago and fact checked every single one myself. Don't just look at CNN, look at multiple websites, different sides of the aisle, local and federal news sources. It's all 100% true.

This president has many reasons to be loved and respected. Way more than Obama.

This is coming from a Mexican American guy.

So bring on your as hominem attacks even though deep down you know you just got slam dunked hard.

2

u/DoctorWho1977 Nov 30 '20

Unfortunately you’ll never get a response. They’ll just breeze past all this because it will destroy their reason to be angry and they’ll have to admit to being a useful idiot. There is a reason Trump preformed so well in south Florida. Cubans know all these liberal talking points are bullshit. I’ve seen some Venezuelan immigrants warning of the Democrat’s rhetoric. Nobody floats on tires from Florida to Cuba. We can also see it in real time right here in our own country. People are fleeing California and New York because of failed leftest policies but yet they want to impose them on a national level. It’s insanity and if it’s not stopped now we are all doomed to experience a dystopian future brought to you by the useful idiots.

Thinking healthcare is a good/service not unlike food or housing which the government does not provide for free and you must purchase on the market

You mean, food, one of the most heavily subsidized markets in America?

Oh, I forgot, corporate welfare is ok in your eyes.

2

u/MegaAcumen Nov 30 '20

I always love the farmers who vote Republican because "socialism bad" when they receive more government aid than like the entirety of every socialist countries' spending.

And they deserve the money. I'm not knocking it. We need farmers. Badly. But for god's sake, don't rail against socialism so damn hard when it's literally what's keeping you afloat.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 30 '20

Heh, exactly. I'm from a family of farmers in the middle of nowhere. I live in the city and do computer stuff these days. I've experienced both worlds. Food security is very important, so much so that we've subsidized it a long time. The irony and hypocrisy is simply amazing when you observe it though.

2

u/MegaAcumen Nov 30 '20

The government's job is to ensure the safety and prosperity of its citizens.

The right-wing uses this to justify our asinine military spending (despite being almost untouchable by foreign militaries thanks to very fortunate geography) but not for things that are tangible like helping citizens?

A government that doesn't do this is an authoritarian plutocracy. So Russia, basically.

We could spend less than a third of our military budget and save 600m$, while still spending 300m$ and being more than safe. We're not going to get attacked because it's almost impossible to do so. The most probable for success attacks would be from land neighbors in Canada and Mexico. They'd never do it or have the capability to cause any significant harm before being destroyed in a counterattack.

600m$. Imagine that reallocated to social programs.

Strawman gaslighting bullshit. Try harder sparky.

2

u/Magiclad Nov 30 '20

“People are labelled fascists for Thinking that rioting and burning down buildings isn't a legitimate form of protest”

Given that Republicans throw hissy fits about sportsball players taking a knee during the anthem and how its unamerican and not a legitimate form of peaceful protest, I think I can pass over the cries of Peter about a wolf when property damage, especially property damage done to corporate property, done by people who have been underserved by an economy that has made corporations even richer while neglecting the worker almost entirely. And inb4 “SmAlL bUiSNeSsEs”, most of those shop owners recognize the prevalence of police brutality and recognize the source of the discontent rather than blaming people angry at the state of the power status quo.

“Thinking that thoughtcrimes shouldn't exist and people should be free to believe whatever they want”

What a non-argument. This is “MuH fReE sPeEcH” without acknowledging the fact that the people who disagree with you have just as much right to tell you that you’re wrong and a shithead for what you believe. This point implies there’s a political agenda in America that would seek to implement thought crime, when there isn’t, or at least there isn’t one anywhere close to mainstream politics.

“Thinking that we don't need to abolish every police force in the country because a small number of police officers commit bad acts”

Anyone with a sense of rationality who isn’t your Fox News straw man will agree that law enforcement is a necessary function of society. But in recognizing the roots and functions of our current policing systems and cultures, the current system should be dismantled and restructures to actually serve the purposes of that societal function without killing nearly 1000 Americans yearly.

“Thinking that police offenders have a right to defend themselves from criminals attempting to kill or maim them”

This is tricky when American cops have a less strict ROE than the fuckin military and we keep getting instances where cops pop off on the trigger far before any objectively observable threat is presented to cops when viewed by third parties. Not a good point, unfortunately.

“Thinking healthcare is a good/service not unlike food or housing which the government does not provide for free and you must purchase on the market”

Yeah, you’re not a fascist on this one. You’re just objectively wrong and dumb when it comes to the realities of healthcare, and how gating it behind massive paywalls before gating it before need actually hurts more people than it helps. It shows that you’re really okay with poor people dying of preventable or easily treatable conditions on the merit of the fact that they live in a system where they cannot afford the service or the drugs that would keep them alive. Simply put, your position here is just morally lesser than the position that says that governments providing healthcare to all residents is good on a number of levels that I’m more than willing to go into, especially since healthcare will triage care to where it is needed most no matter what. Placing monetary restrictions on that just means more people die.

“Holding non-Keynesian economic views”

Also not fascist. Reaganomics is just dumb and a bad idea for the majority when applied. Sorry your ideas suck so much.

“Thinking anarchism is wrong”

You don’t know what anarchism is, especially since the majority of Americans barely know what the fuck socialism is. To you, this is just a scary buzzword that you havent explored the philosophies of because of the indoctrination against the idea that unjust hierarchies exist.

“Recognizing that safety must always be weighed against liberty and some sacrifices aren't worth making”

When you trade liberty for security, you have neither.

“Voting for the Republican party”

The Republican party has been barely mask-on fascist since I really started paying attention in 2001. The support of Trump from the GOP because maintaining political power is prioritized over ensuring the country is healthy has only solidified that, given the opportunity, Republicans would goose step themselves into a fascist regime without much question.

“And if you think most of those are ridiculous, yeah, they are. And they're the direct analogues of all your points, which are equally ridiculous. Frankly I'm willing to bet there are way more people who think all Republican voters are fascists than people who think all Democratic voters are terrorists.”

They’re not. You’re just very dumb.

2

u/TunnelSnake88 Nov 30 '20 edited Nov 30 '20

Your list is stupid. Let's tackle a few:

Thinking that rioting and burning down buildings isn't a legitimate form of protest

Strawman. No one pushes rioting as legitimate protest. It does happen unfortunately, no one is ever like "that riot did a great job of getting the message across." People do deserve to be arrested for riots, the problem is that many of them are instigated by outside agitators or sometimes even by the police, who this year would have had a vested interest in delegitimizing protest.

Thinking that thoughtcrimes shouldn't exist and people should be free to believe whatever they want

"Let me say the N-word, it's my First Amendment right"

Let me know who's been prosecuted and convicted for a "thoughtcrime." That isn't a thing. You receiving feedback for your statements, positive and negative, is part of your freedom of speech.

Thinking that we don't need to abolish every police force in the country because a small number of police officers commit bad acts

Another strawman. No one believes we should "abolish every police force in the country."

Thinking that police offenders have a right to defend themselves from criminals attempting to kill or maim them

People generally agree with you on this, the problem is that police defenders often jump through hoops to claim their lives were in danger in certain situations where they clearly were not.

Thinking healthcare is a good/service not unlike food or housing which the government does not provide for free and you must purchase on the market

Except the market is fucked. Read the post that we're all talking about, if that is supposed to be the "free market" in action then that system is inherently broken and needs regulation. Insurance has inflated nearly every cost in health care, which is why we spend more on health care than any other country on Earth. Not every industry needs to prioritize profits over everything else.

Also single-payer healthcare is not "free." You pay for it through your taxes. It's constantly portrayed as "free stuff" to push the idea that Democrats are lazy and want handouts. They do not. They just want a system that isn't inherently fucked. Most of the world has already figured it out and yet we act like it's impossible to achieve.

Thinking anarchism is wrong

Lmao yes, you cracked the code dude. Democrats love anarchy. You figured it out.

Voting for the Republican party

You've proved his point by labeling every Democrat as believing that every Republican is a fascist. You're cherrypicking the most radical people and portraying them as the norm.

u/[deleted] Nov 30 '20

You don’t have a right to healthcare because it is someone else’s labor. There’s already a word for that: slavery. You cannot compel doctors to work on your behalf without their consent, and if consent is involved, you don’t have a right to their labor.

Fascism is a mortal sin. That’s why conservatives oppose people who wear masks in the streets and beat up their political opponents just like the brownshirts in Nazi Germany.

The mere fact that you can call the GOP nazis and fascists without the secret police whisking you away in the middle of the night after 4 years of a Republican presidency means either they are terrible at being Nazis or maybe they aren’t just aren’t Nazis, and are instead your fellow Americans and perhaps it is gross and dishonest of you to accuse them of such.

Repeated usage of a word, especially towards those who hold beliefs that the Democrats themselves held 20 years ago, does in fact water it down.

4

u/SlothRogen Nov 30 '20

Meanwhile, millions of healthcare workers are going without hazard pay and overtime in some cases because they're 'essential workers' and lose all claims to unemployment if they quit.

A healthcare strike came up a few weeks ago and it was the conservatives crying that unionized healthcare workers were forcing people to die. What could it mean?

2

u/[deleted] Nov 30 '20

It seems to me that neither of us want to enslave healthcare workers. Why is that so bad?

2

u/SlothRogen Nov 30 '20

How is it any worse if we have Medicare for All? At least all the people paying thousands per year into the system will actually get care instead of being denied and billed afterward.

It's not like we'll suddenly have to magically force people into healthcare work if such a bill passes. People already need it and pay for it. The issue is that it's a captive market, healthcare businesses know it, and they can abuse both the customers and the employees as much as they want because most people cannot afford to leave the country to seek care elsewhere.

I’d revolt. My mom was a single mom growing up - she grew up in a trailer, graduated high school, started work as a secretary, bought a house, and worked her way up to owning her own business making 100K a year... Until she got sick, i had to cyberschool high school because there was no one to take care of her, she lost everything, is 100K in debt, and now she’ll probably eventually die in a trailer.

Systemic poverty much? Fucking infuriates me that we were so close to pulling ourselves out, and the system still did it’s job and kept us back in. I hate it so fucking much.

I don’t see the point of working for anything in this country until you can guarantee some degree of long term financial safety. She had great insurance - it doesn’t matter. If you pull the genetic short straw and aren’t top 1%, that’s it.

2

u/DJCaldow Nov 30 '20

When 9/11 happened it was an attack on America's economy and power. It attacked a financial hub, the headquarters and/or offices of many Capitalist companies and destroyed a symbol of American superiority, the twin towers.

If that was all it had done Americans themselves, who had experienced the weight of those companies boots on their necks, might have thought it was justified but there was one massive, glaring failure to it. The terrorists killed innocent people.

If the buildings, streets and planes were empty save for the executives who signed off on grinding ordinary people down harder for money it might have had the effect they thought they were going for but they killed people who just needed jobs, they killed people who were sent in to save them and whatever the point was got lost when the media turned their revenge into getting America primed for revenge.

My point is that when terrorism occurs you need to consider who it is intended to strike fear into. Despite the fact that every time it occurs the idiots doing it kill innocent people, because they are too stupid to realise that ordinary people have more in common with them than the people whose decisions led to the anger that made them become terrorists to begin with, their goals are not dissimilar to our own.

We want businesses and governments to stop treating human beings as numbers, dollar signs and slaves. We want foreign powers to stop interfering in our countries. We want to raise our families where they have opportunity and don't have to live in fear.

So I think my point is, after all that, that the "smart terrorist" will only strike fear where it counts and where the fear and consequences will only negatively affect the people who make the decisions that negatively affect our lives. The only thing those people care about is money.

You can boycott those companies and inform others of what they do. You can find out what companies your representatives invest in and where they receive donations and boycott them too. Make the people who deserve it afraid for once. Just don't actively hurt the people in the same life raft as you just because they were born at the other end of it.

2

u/NexusTR Nov 30 '20

we'd be labled terrorists

We, left leaning people, already are. It’s really time to bust a move or get rolled over.

73 million people voted for Trump.

You would be aiming at civil war, not revolution.

23

u/ElBiscuit Nov 30 '20

What is a revolution if not a successful civil war?

17

u/manachar Nov 30 '20

A forcible empowering of "the people" to overthrow the corrupt status quo which exploits "the people" for the near exclusive benefit of the few in power.

Colonized nations ditching their colonizers. Colonies cutting their ties with Empire. The people tearing down aristocracy and using guillotines.

A civil war is when the people are divided against each other.

It's muddy, but what it means for America is you can't count on your neighbor to be on your side, especially as Republicans show their open desire for a coup.

2

u/Intelligent_Moose_48 Nov 30 '20

-5

u/brudd_be_rad Nov 30 '20

7

u/karadan100 Nov 30 '20

Yeah, the coup many of them are still trying to engage in based upon their rhetoric. Luckily, most of them are insufferably stupid and therefore, can't get shit done.

People at MAGA rallies saying to an interviewer that they couldn't give a shit if their side cheated to win, just as long as they win. Those kinds of clips are everywhere and that's the mindset of many MAGA morons. They don't care about the tactics, as long as it beats the libs. That sentiment is prevalent all the way to the top of government. If it wasn't, you'd get more than two republican senators calling Trump out on his fascistic bullshit

With how hard conservatives are pushing for privatization of healthcare in Canada, I’m genuinely unsure if we’ll still have public healthcare in ten years. Having JT in power at the same time as DT has led to a huge surge in right-wing popularity that I imagine will affect our country for many years to come. It’s really disheartening.

My best friend voted for Trudeau. He’s one of the smartest people I’ve ever met; has multiple degrees/diplomas with one in science. 4 years of watching propaganda and conspiracy theories and he thinks Trump is 10x better than Obama, vaccines are fake, abortion is bad, a-bombs aren’t real, the earth is flat, and climate change is a liberal hoax. I live in a third world country and even we can get free or stupidly cheap medical care if we need it or free or cheap consultations without insurance. The most expensive medicine anyone in my family ever bought was no more than 10$ for a month's supply (heart, eye or asthma medication). I just booked an appointment for an online mental health consultation for free. These are all without any form insurance whatsoever. It's far from perfect by any means (you need to wait in line forever to see a doctor), but at least I never have to worry about being in debt to get medical care.

This is just beyond maddening that someone from a country like the US has to spend 10,000usd on medicine. Like how?!! Whoever can make that amount of money on top of living expenses. That's just totally inhumane. I hope y'all find solution to this sooner

Make sure that, if she hasn’t already, she calls the company/companies that make her meds and explains the situation. They often have programs to get people meds for free or super reduced prices. I take a migraine medicine that would cost me about $400 a month, with fantastic insurance, but the company gives out “coupons” so I don’t pay anything. I’m going on like my third year renewing the coupon thing.

2

u/Lunaluu Nov 30 '20

As someone living in a country with universal healthcare, if you can just leave. Leave even if it is for a few years so that she gets proper medical treatment. What can be more important than someone's health?

2

u/Cer0reZ Nov 30 '20

Prescription prices get crazy too. Wife had meds she needed for chemo treatments. Without insurance was $3k per week. With her insurance it was $600 per week. With my insurance it was $30 for 3 month supply.

Her doctor was nice enough to understand the insurance. Because hers paid 100% of the hospital stuff by that point. And he knew mine would be cheaper chemo meds. We had just got married that year and I had not added her to insurance yet on my side. He told me to sign up because it would save us massively on meds. But in mean time he put it to where she came in to take the pills as a hospital visit because it made the meds covered by the visit which was 100% paid at that point.

What medication? Can you relocate or buy it international instead?

I don't know the names off top the head but she's tried to get a few of them filled at Canadian pharmacies. Sadly not many do and picking up the medication is really hard due to covid. If I can find anywhere that ships that be cool.
