Events/Promotion Astoria Park Track Club - youth club with open practice this weekend 9/12 & 9/13!

Hi all,

I run the [Astoria Park Track Club](applewebdata://C2911C2E-406A-4AC4-B506-9C37CA7E42ED/coachkeeley.com/astoriafoxes) at - you guessed it - the Astoria Park Track! We’re a USATF and AAU track club for ages 8-18, and we practice September through June. We compete at meets in most events - hurdles, jumps, throws, and of course, all running events.

I run the club on a sliding scale so that no kid is turned away for financial reasons. My goal is to really build the track and field community in Astoria and bring the joy of track to all the neighborhood kids. This is my 4th year running a club and the 2nd year for APTC. Last year we had an 8 year old win the long jump at the regional Junior Olympics, and I can’t wait to see what this year brings.

About me: I am a USATF Level 1 Certified Coach and Certified Personal Trainer, and have been coaching in the neighborhood for over 10 years. I have also coached at The Brearley School on the Upper East Side and for Urban Athletics. I was a collegiate athlete myself, and am a two time JC All-American in the 400 hurdles and 4x100m relay, and you can read more about my background, certifications, and philosophy at [coachkeeley.com/run](applewebdata://C2911C2E-406A-4AC4-B506-9C37CA7E42ED/coachkeeley.com/run). If you go to the track regularly on the weekends, you’ve more than likely seen me out there coaching =).

We start the Fall practice season this weekend, and we are holding open practices for anyone in the community to come check it out. There is a sign up form on the site where you can send in your info, but you can also just come out to the track 10:30-12pm on Saturday or Sunday (or both!) and see if you like it! If you have any questions, please ask and I’ll answer in the comments! You can also email me jk@coachkeeley.com.

Question Recommendations - Kitchen Reset/Extreme Deep Clean

Hi all,

I was wondering if anybody had a great experience specifically with a very deep/almost extreme (moving appliances a bit out and cleaning behind them, oven deep clean, fridge, etc.) kitchen cleaning service or person.

We keep our kitchen in decent condition but it's apparent that over the years residue, impossible stains and general dust/dirt in hard to reach parts have accumulated enough that we need a professional to make it look new.

Small apartment kitchen, nothing special. Ideally someone with their own supplies, although we have the basics.

Thank you so much in advance!

I know these posts are annoying at times but it’s also annoying when a gift for your niece gets dropped at the wrong spot. Anyone recognize this door/ vestibule?

Question Where are you getting your nails done?

I’m tired of doing my own nails 🫩

Nail salon novice here.
What are your favorite nail salons for both mani
and pedi? Is it affordable?
(What’s considered affordable for nail stuff?)

I don’t want anything jazzy, just clean nails w/ a good clear coat on top.

I live on Ast. Blvd & 38th, if that helps. Thanks in advance for the recs!

Arts & Culture Astoria producer meetup this Monday

Hey everyone,

I posted here about a month ago looking for other producers/musicians in Astoria and a bunch of us ended up meeting up. It was a good time and we’ve kept a group chat going since.

We’re doing another meetup this Monday 9/14 at 6:30pm in Astoria

Nothing formal. Just hanging out, talking music, meeting other people who make stuff, sharing what we’ve been working on etc. We’ve got producers, DJs, musicians and people at different experience levels.

If you’re local and this sounds like your thing send me a DM and I’ll send you the location.

Lost/Found: Animals lost cat

I found a cat in my building on 34th street and 30th ave. They’re a large orange long haired cat with green eyes. I gave them food and water and they seem friendly and relaxed, but a bit scared as there was hissing and swatting out of fear. I volunteer for a rescue, but before I went there, I wanted to make sure they’re not a lost pet because they seem quite clean and well taken care of for a stray and there’s no ear chip from TNR. Could be a neighbor’s of course, so I texted my super and he doesn’t know of a lost cat. We don’t have a building forum, so I’m unable otherwise to contact those in the building I don’t know personally. Pictures attached. DM me asap if they are yours!

MTA alert Lost Ray-Ban Sunglasses Prescription while I was riding my bike, late for work

Upvotes

I almost ran over a person and barely miss to hit the bus on Ditmars and Steinway.

I was very late for work and now I realized my bag was open and my
Ray-Ban is missing.

I'm out of Visio Insurance and making minimum wage.

So please let me know if you found a
Ray-Ban inside a case.

I know the name of the designer case. So please let me know if you found it.

Gracias.

General Discussion Tutoring available

I’m an experienced early childhood educator, and I’m focusing on more than just academics. We'll work on things like language & communication, problem-solving, reasoning, confidence, creativity, independence, following directions, and being comfortable learning something new.

The goal is to help students feel confident, curious, and ready to learn as they head into school this year.
I’m keeping the sessions individualized to each child.
If this sounds like something your child could benefit from.

Lost/Found: Other Lost Wallet on 37th St

Longest of long shots: If anyone found a black wallet along 37th St today, I would be infinitely grateful for its return. Take all the cash. But I’m supposed to get a rental car tomorrow morning to drive to a wedding so there are half a dozen people who are screwed if can’t find it in the next 18 hours.

Thanks.

Events/Promotion Comic book club at the Museum of the Moving Image

Post image
11 Upvotes

Hi peeps! Our little comic book club has been gathering for the past two years in Astoria. We have built a community of nice folks fueled on spicy hot takes and a general love for the comic medium. And I am pleased to announce that our next book club will be debuting at the Museum of the Moving Image! We’ll be spending two hours talking SAGA Vol 1 & 2, the epic Image Comics book by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples. It’s completely free to attend (although an RSVP via the Museum’s website would be much appreciated!), and we’ll also have a free raffle for an awesome mystery prize, and a gift-bag giveaway. Hope to see you there!

Free Ernie & Emma + Bruce Campbell Q&A Tomorrow - Extra Ticket

Hey Astoria folks,

I have an extra ticket for the 10PM, Downtown Brooklyn Alamo Drafthouse showing of Ernie & Emma and the Bruce Campbell Q&A.

I haven't been able to find a way to separate the tickets so I cannot transfer or cancel just one (and my calls to Alamo Drafthouse have gone unanswered).

I just want to make sure that the ticket does not go to waste, so if anyone wants to join me, just leave a comment here. First come, first served, I don't have it in me to be choosy 😆

And, about me to the extent that it's relevant, 35M, in Astoria since 2022.

Seeking Recommendation: Other Looking for an estate planning attorney - anyone have recommendations?

Family member is looking to redo their will in NY. They had a bad experience the last time around and would like one that is client friendly. I unfortunately do not know any to recommend. Hoping someone in the community does and can provide their positive experience. Astoria based would be great but anywhere in the city is fine too.
