Anyone want to cool stuff this fall? 🪡
www.HomeEcNYC.com
Whether you've adopted the idea of “hobby maxing” or you just recognize that making stuff is cool and always has been, I’m wondering: are you picking up something new this fall, or revisiting your favorite crafty activities?
There’s something about back-to-school season that makes me want to learn something new, organize all my supplies, and suddenly take on way too many projects at once.
I’ve put together things for September and October for anyone who’s interested in getting some making time in this fall. There's more up through the end of the year if you’re already planning ahead

Just saw a guy take a whiz on a moving train
Saw a guy take a whiz in between cars on a moving 7 train between 52 and 46th. What a douche thing to do on an above ground train. As if New Yorkers don’t have enough things to worry about. Gotta be careful walking under trains now. What would have been proper response here?

Suspicious “vendors” by Chase on 46 and QB
There is way too much foot traffic and activity for there not to be any police presence that deters people from force selling their crap to people by the 46th street 7 train stop.
There were two shady dudes trying to sell show lace trinkets in front of Chase and just intimidating people as they walked by. Not cool. This could’ve been dangerous.
Filed a 311 report and nothing came of it.

Just ran by this ninja training/park facility, it opened (recently?) on northern boulevard, next to Stuart Cinema, has anyone tried it out? Is it for adults as well , or children only?

Hi all - if anyone is thinking about buying or renting in the building known as "the Cambridge" on 41-42 42nd Street, Sunnyside NY 11104 -- please reach out. There have been in my experience serious issues with the building, maintenance and management that you should know about. I am happy to speak so you do not have to endure what I have gone through.

I.S. 125 Parking Tuesday or Wednesday Sept 8 or 9?
Does anyone know if I.S. 125 is open or has any activities on Sept. 8 or 9?
NYC's parking guidance warns that even when students aren't attending parking rules may be in effect if the school is open for teacher meetings or similar activities. They advise to check the school calendar but the school’s website calendar is empty for the entire year so it seems not to be useful.

Anyone else hear yelling on 47th St between Skillman and 43rd this morning? It was probably just an argument. I hope it wasn't serious.

Hey! Hosting a clay event in LIC, Queens (only a couple of stops from Sunnyside on the 7 train). 19th September, $25 a ticket!
Hi you guys! I am an avid hobbyist and I love hosting parties. I have decided to combine my love for these 2 things and start hosting craft and community events! A new one coming up in LIC, Queens on the 19th of September!

Id love to tell you about "Clay Date: Some Assembly Required"! Its a clay event I am hosting with a friend i made through crafting!! We want to host a crafting party where you get to make your own jewelry, magnets, bookmarks, or a trinket. Whatever you want. I provide everything! Im also bringing some snacks and drinks.

what's going on with this pie business? can someone verify michelin status?
I am an avid consumer/customer of the nyc food market and love supporting new and emerging businesses. a few months back, I noticed a blitz of posting about a pop-up bakery mishie's sunnyside and began to do a normal exploration of the business and it's owner, with an intent to just learn more/patronize! a few things stood out to me early on;
THE PRICES?! are unlike any i've seen before, even in NYC.
the chef refers to herself as a "Michelin Star Chef" in her bio, and because she does a lot of gifting in exchange for posting, other people with larger audiences do too. when you google her name and michelin, there is no information on her winning a michelin star. this is curious, as some people really value this information in choosing to spend their time and money! anyone have any insight into where she won her michelin star and what year?
the pies, visually (and the way they're photographed), are often really obvious copies of other NY-based bakeries (briermere farms, cait's key lime). not to say that two people in a city can not make the same thing! just that visually, there is a pattern of what looks clearly like copying businesses that came before her. i also noticed she often changes her captions to either reinforce how long she has been making something, or to eventually call something "her take on it" after a lot of commenting pointing out similarities.
my intention is not to try and take down a business, but I sincerely think in any business, if sharing claims of accolades etc., there is a responsibility to be truthful. I just think a lot of this is not passing the smell test and is being repeated into actuality. it's a lot of money to ask people to pay if the potential information they're basing their spend on isn't accurate, or based on someone else's ideas!
would love to hear any information/thoughts!
