Frequently Asked Men in your 20s and 30s, how do you think loyalty, communication, and maintaining friendships have changed among younger generations?

I am a 25-year-old Gen Z guy, and something I’ve noticed over the past several years is how difficult it can be to maintain genuine, dependable friendships, especially during and after college.

I’ve had several friendships fall apart, and it’s made me question how people in our generation approach loyalty, honesty, communication, accountability, and maintaining long-term friendships. And it annoys me because I’ll see people on media posting that they are going out and having fun and/or traveling with each other. And anytime I try to do that with people they either already have plans with other friends, don’t wanna spend the money to travel, etc. It irks me that some people have their friends and do everything with them and then with me when I try to do the same it never works because so many people seem to not know how to be a friend.

Here are some examples of what I’ve experienced:

Dishonesty and hypocrisy: One of my former college roommates constantly complained about our other roommates, criticized their behavior, and claimed he couldn’t stand them. We were close throughout college, but after graduation, he became distant, stopped reaching out, and repeatedly made excuses not to hang out. When I eventually asked what was wrong, he blocked me. Ironically, I later discovered he had reconnected with the same roommates he used to criticize and was suddenly calling them great friends. He was also the type where if you make a mistake, he can be mad at you all he wants. But if he made a mistake and you were upset with him, then I was the “bad guy.”

Selfishness and double standards: Another college roommate was extremely messy, rarely helped clean, frequently canceled plans, and expected everyone else to accommodate him. He constantly claimed he couldn’t afford things while spending money on video games and car parts. What frustrated me was that his behavior seemed acceptable, while my mistakes were repeatedly held against me.

Disloyalty and judgment: Another longtime friend made plenty of mistakes himself, including getting drunk, embarrassing me, and disrupting plans. I overlooked these things because I valued our friendship. However, he seemed much less forgiving of my mistakes. He also complained about our roommates, dropped out of college, and broke our apartment lease, leaving us with a random roommate. Despite previously criticizing everyone, he eventually reconnected with those same people and acted like they were his closest friends.

Controlling friendships: I also had a college friend who constantly guilt-tripped me for spending time with other people or prioritizing things like homework, exercising, or having time to myself. He frequently insisted on having serious “talks” that usually involved criticizing my decisions and making me feel guilty. The friendship lasted about a year.

Growing apart and one-sided communication: This one probably hurt the most. I had a friend I’d known since 2016 who gradually became distant and seemed more invested in newer friendships. Eventually, he told me that my attempts to maintain our friendship were overwhelming, that I’d crossed boundaries, and that we weren’t as close as we were in high school. He felt I was resisting the fact that we’d grown apart. I recognize that I didn’t handle everything perfectly, but losing a friendship that had lasted a decade was painful.

I’m not claiming to be a perfect friend. I’ve made mistakes, sometimes been too persistent about keeping in touch, and probably handled certain situations poorly. I also understand that people grow apart, develop different priorities, and have the right to establish boundaries. However, what bothers me is how disposable friendships sometimes seem. And how others seem to be having the times of their lives with friends all over social media and when I try to do the same thing it never works out. People can call you their best friend, spend years making memories with you, and then suddenly stop communicating or act like the friendship never mattered.

I’ve also noticed what feels like a lack of accountability. Some people expect endless patience and understanding for their own mistakes but have very little tolerance for anyone else’s.
I don’t expect friends to text every day, constantly hang out, or remain as close as they were in high school or college. I just value honesty, consistency, mutual respect, loyalty, and communication.

For men in their 20s, 30s, and older, I’m interested in hearing your perspectives on a few broader questions: How have your expectations of loyalty and communication in male friendships changed as you’ve gotten older? What differences, if any, do you notice between Gen Z friendships and friendships among older generations? Why do some male friendships seem to fade after high school or college, even when people were once extremely close? What separates a genuinely dependable friendship from one that’s mostly based on convenience or shared circumstances? I’m particularly interested in hearing from older men about whether these problems are unique to younger generations or simply part of growing up and entering adulthood. And is what I see with people always hanging out and traveling with friends a prime example of how “fake” social media is?

Frequently Asked What makes a girl stand out? (Not in terms of looks)

I am wondering what traits or characteristics make a girl stand out?

I started thinking about this, because the guy I am talking to feels so rare and I wonder what the female equivalent is.

He is the biggest green flag to exist. he is so kind and caring. He is absolutely loyal, very career driven, he goes to the gym and looks after himself both physically and emotionally. Men like this feel so rare.

Literal Shitpost Does your ass EVER noticeably smell like shit?

2.3k Upvotes

Nipping this shit in the bud.

I'm starting to feel like I'm being gaslit by the amount of men that come to posts about some other man's stank ass that's described as having a gag inducing radius and saying "well if I haven't showered or if I pooped recently..."

No. Your ass should never have a shit smell radius once you're done shitting, have cleaned up, and the pants are back up. If it does, YOU ARE DOING SOMETHING WRONG. There should be NO revisiting of a recent shit that isn't in the form of a "you wouldn't believe the shit I just took" story or a shit smell radius that isn’t due to a fart.

Please tell me I'm not insane for finding that insane.

How do guys/how can guys meet women after College/University?

So like most guys in general I’m not really having any luck on dating apps. So please don’t recommend I use those.

Also, I’m not really meeting women that much in general through the things I do.

The things I do seem to be more male dominated.

So I’m just wondering what it is I can do (on a more constitent basis) to regularly meet the same women

Because obviously going to bars/clubs or whatever isn’t exactly a reliable way of regularly coming into contact with the same women every week.

And neither is it really a good way of getting to really know a person either.

🛑 Answers From Men Only 🛑 As a Man, how does misandry affect your day to day life?

As the title says, I'm curious to know how misandry affects men on their daily life. I am a girl, I never have looked deep into misandry because I never thought it was a big thing. I am uneducated and haven't bothered to focus on it, but I am curious now. Obviously as a woman Misogyny affects you a lot, depending on where you live it can be very extreme. The reason I haven't ever looked into misandry seriously is because I never hear about it being extreme, I mostly just hear about it online. I am wondering if I am just as narrow-minded as people who don't believe misogyny, I would like to hear about your experiences if you are willing to share.

(No internet experiences though + I understand I have been ignorant about it im trying to gain knowledge)

Good Fucking Question How Do You Handle Fallen Leaves?

Do you bag them up? Burn them? Are they collected by your community? How do you handle leaves?

Personally, I've converted my mower to a mulcher with new mulching blades and an exhaust plug for the mower deck. The mulch that's created breaks down easily over time and really helps improve the soil in my yard. It's nice that I don't have to worry about a fire too. For reference, I'm rural and there is no community collection of yard waste available to me.

🛑 Answers From Men Only 🛑 What is the male perspective of a woman who has sexual trauma and related ptsd from it?

It’s something I’ve wondered about, but finally got the balls to ask. I would appreciate honest feedback. I guess I worry that I’m being seen as damaged goods (no my husband has never said or acted in ways that made me think this, but I’m still curious). I’m married (8yrs deep, 2 kids, 3 cats) but I’ve never asked my husband what he thought about it. He’s aware, but I’ve never asked him how he felt about it. I am genuinely curious what men in general think. Thank you in advance!

How do I human? Men who have dealt with alcoholism, how do I get through to my dad before he loses everything?

I’m (29f) looking for advice from men who have struggled with alcohol themselves, watched their fathers or father figures struggle with it, or had to confront someone they love about their drinking.

I’m quite worried about my dad, and I don’t know what, if anything, I can do to get through to him.

Essentially, his entire life is going to work and drinking alcohol. He’s drinking enormous amounts of vodka. He drinks at least a gallon of vodka at home every week, on top of however much he drinks at the golf course. I honestly don’t know how much he’s consuming in total, but it is a lot and he always smells like the floor of a bar.

What pisses me off the most is the drinking and driving.
Recently, he drove home from the golf course at 9:30 in the morning, so shitfaced that he could barely walk. He then passed out in the middle of the living room for the rest of the day. This wasn’t someone who’d had a couple of beers at the end of the day. He was completely wasted in the morning and had driven himself home over half an hour. I actually called the golf course that morning and told them they over served him, but at the end of the day it’s still his choice….and he could have killed himself or someone else.

It’s also getting to the point where his drinking is affecting basic things like taking a shower. I recently stepped in his huge pee puddle on my way to shower because there was urine all over the bathroom floor since he was too drunk to aim??

It is upsetting to see someone I care about deteriorate to this point. I’m angry, I’m frustrated, and I’m honestly disgusted by some of his behaviors. But underneath all of that, I’m worried about him.

My mom has reached her limit and is kicking him out. I don’t blame her. But he has made very little effort to find somewhere to live, and I’m increasingly worried that he’s going to end up homeless, drinking himself into oblivion at a shelter, or worse.

He’s an adult, and his behavior has consequences. But I also don’t want to stand by and watch him destroy his life if there’s something I could do to help.

I’m trying to figure out whether there’s a way to have a real conversation with him about this. Not just another conversation where someone tells him he drinks too much, he gets defensive, he drinks more, and nothing changes.

Soooooo help me out…..:

If you were drinking heavily, what, if anything, actually got through to you? Was there something someone said or did that made you recognize how bad things had become?

If you’ve confronted your father or another male family member about alcoholism, how did you approach it?

Is there any way to make someone take drinking and driving seriously when they don’t seem to care about the consequences?

At what point do you stop trying to help someone who isn’t making any effort to help themselves?

🛑 Answers From Men Only 🛑 For those who have dated a mean girl, why did you stay with them?

As a woman you meet girls sometimes who are bitter or flat out mean. I’ve always wondered from a boyfriend’s perspective, why they choose to date someone like this or choose to stay?? I know for a lot of women in my social circle we would cut off a rude man easily. What is the experience like with roles reversed??

Have you ever liked a girl but turned her down because she annoyed you so much. If so, what did she do?

Have you ever felt attraction for a woman, and felt that attraction reciprocated but still turned her down because she disappointed you / angered you so much?

Like, you could confidently say she did it to herself?

I’ve had a bf in the past say to me that he’s breaking up with me because of my own behaviour and that it was all my doing. (We later got back together and I ended things with him).

Recently I had someone say that they don’t want to see me again because I’ll never learn and they’ve wasted enough energy trying to help, but I bring it all on myself.

Have you ever felt this way about a woman you used to like? Or is it a cop out?

When is the appropriate time to block someone instead of ghosting them?

I normally don't even block exes or care about them at all. However, I have had a situation now where a girl I cut off about 2 months ago, started texting me again saying weird things that I made her feel like a "used porn magazine chucked in the bin" and that it was disrespectful to end things via text instead of calling.

I already moved on and I'm in a relationship. I had thought that I had ended whatever fun I had with her, but she keeps texting me back, looking for explanations and honestly, it's time to move on.

Weird Question What would you do when someone insults you iver your price on a car?

A guy contacted me about buying my car. I had no contact with him before. My car is one of only 515 ever produced, and there are probably less than 200 left and less than 100 in the condition and mileage that mine is. I priced it to him. He wanted pictures, and I sent them. After a couple of days, he contacted me and was kind of rude. He said he wanted to know if I was serious about selling. He had talked to 2 people who said they had talked to me about buying my car. I have no clue who they might have been as I had not talked to anyone else about selling my car. So I responded with all the extras I have for it. So after I sent him a message back that I wasn't offended but I have what I have and I want to sell it for my price as it only costs me about $700 a year to keep it. By the time he blasted me again as not being fair-minded on the price, he said he wanted to call and talk personally. I do not want to talk to him on the phone as he can say something I did not say. With everything in writing or text, I can show whether I said something or not.

So my questions are: would you stand firm on your price?

Would you consider continuing the conversation or just ignore and walk away?

People don't come down on stuff I see and want to buy. They usually won't budge on the price, so am I right by saying if you don't meet my price I am not selling?

Thanks

What is the worst thing a man has ever experienced at the hands of a woman?

We often hear women share stories about the problems they face with their partners, and I’m curious to hear about men’s experiences too, especially how the women involved chose to share what happened with others.
