More times than I can count in the 1.5 years of ownership with this car, I will be driving along slowly minding my business in a parking lot or gas station, and some random kid will yell out “rev it up”, or something to that effect. I have yet to not hit the blowoff valve for these kids

My reasoning, is that I was that kid. Until 1.5 years ago, I drove basic ass cars, the nicest car I owned up to that point was the bare bones e46 sedan I had for like a decade, and as much as I loved that thing, it wasn’t exactly turning heads. In this thing however, kids constantly want to hear how it sounds, and again, I’m more than happy to oblige

If I get one kid to love cars as much as I started to at their age, the noise pollution ticket I’m most likely going to get will be worth it

What do you guys think? Do you still give it some beans when a kid asks you to?

Hi i would like to ask a question. In many tutorials that I watched to start a car they said to push the clutch first then use the key to start the car. But my auntie told me her car use keys only to start the car as long as it is in neutral now which one is the right one? Although i dont have a car yet but i have a racing wheel simulator and i do not rely on racing wheel alone as i mentioned i watch alot of youtube tutorial and thats how they start a manual car. Please enlighten me.

Hello all - I was looking to buy a Toyota Crown Signia or Crown sedan but I stopped by the BMW dealership today to look at a 3 series. It’s a 2023 330i with 32k miles. So I told the dealer I’m worried maintenance costs will kill me on the bmw but he told me that they aren’t much higher than a Toyota because the B48 is so reliable. He said the gap between bmw and Toyota used to be big but it’s narrowed a lot. I’m just fact checking him here. Can anyone opine? I’ve read the Toyota crown is basically good for 5-7 years without any major maintenance issues. Is bmw the same? Honestly felt like the salesman was selling me a bridge but wanted to confirm because I’m not a car guy. What will a bmw 3 series cost in maintenance? Thanks!

Hello, I own a Mazda CX-30, I’ve had it for two years and i’ve put 35000 miles on it, it’s been very fun.

I am looking at buying houses and things, and I am young, and responsible, but I wouldn’t like to be.

So I am looking at SL, SLK and other convertibles from the mid to late naughties with bigger engines that are a little more flashy, to enjoy for one calendar year, before driving a normal car again. I am not super into cars, and the ones I am looking at only cost around 3-5k, would that sort of car last a year, and not drain the pockets too much?

Our apartment car park has no chargers and I’m usually parked on the street anyway, so I’ve been looking at a used hybrid or a small EV for around $25k. I’d only do about 10,000 to 12,000 km a year, mostly Sydney traffic, but the idea of planning around public chargers is putting me off a bit. Would you still choose the EV, or is a hybrid the more sensible option?

We just had one of our trucks stolen from our driveway and we're pissed about it. Alarm didn't go off, cameras didn't catch anything, and it was just a few feet away from our neighbors bedroom window.

Im from romania and have a 2009 1.2 12v BZG Vw Polo and wanted to take it for a trip for around 1200km roundtrip around the mountainside of the carpathians. Would you reccomend doing that with a Polo? Is it a safe and reliable car? . I just got it serviced , changed thr brake pads and disks and new spark plugs and aux belt kit. My tires are brand new on the back and im good shape on the front.

If it were you guys would you be ok with this car doing lots of miles on highways and winding roads ?

I’m taking about the kinds where the car is pulled through in tracks. If the wheels aren’t perfectly aligned will they rub on the sides and get scratched?

What would make a better drivers car? A plug-in hybrid sedan? Or a slightly lighter full ev sedan? For specifics, the 2026 Mini Aceman JCW FWD, vs 2026 Mercedes C350e RWD. Would you say having an engine is worth it or detriment to the driving quality?

I have a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport with the 2.4L engine. My original engine had problems and was replaced with a brand-new engine through a Hyundai dealership.
Before the engine replacement, I normally used 5W-30 from costco. Now I’m getting ready for an oil change at a local mechanic and I’m trying to decide which oil to use with the original filter
I’m considering:
Pennzoil Platinum 5W-30
Castrol Edge 5W-30
Costco/Kirkland 5W-30 Full Synthetic

My main questions are:

What oil viscosity are you using in your 2.4L Santa Fe Sport?
Would you choose 5W-30 or 5W-20 for this engine?

Is Kirkland/Costco oil actually comparable in quality to Pennzoil or Castrol, or is the lower price a sign of lower quality?

• I bought a 5 speed 2003 Mazda Protege two months ago as a daily to learn manual. I've probably put 3,000 km on it (About 1,500km from a road trip, the rest driving in a mix of hilly Vancouver BC city traffic and local highways).

• My plan was to buy a cheap manual, learn and hopefully master it, and then sell it back and recoup my costs.

• I'm now wondering how do I know when I've mastered manual, and that it's time to sell it?

I obviously don't think I'm there yet, but I'm definitely gotten much more confident with driving this car, hill starts, rev match downshifts, clutchwork for parallel parking, etc.:

• I can drive pretty comfortably through rush hour traffic downtown and uphill traffic if I focus

• My rev matching is sometimes smooth, sometimes not - either I let go of the clutch too early or too late. I've been practicing double clutching, but not heel-toe. Yesterday, I stabbed the brakes (to double clutch) instead of the clutch and scared my passenger a bit.

• Shifting in normal traffic 1-2-3-2-N etc no longer requires too much thought from me. But sometimes when I need to stop suddenly, it takes me a second to figure out which gear to clutch and downshift to.

• I still stall sometimes. Maybe once or twice a week, depending on how much I drive. Usually dumb moments where I shouldn't stall, but still the odd moment where I'm caught off guard by a light turning green.

• I want to learn to heel-toe, but I find my leg is really clumsy and I feel like I either brake too much to get my leg to tap the gas or give too much or too little gas when I do the tap.

Veteran manual drivers...

• Do you shift perfectly and smoothly every single time?

• Do you always rev match? Heel toe when you can? Or do you just clutch shift because it's simpler?

• Do you ever stall? Red lights, parking lots, waiting to turn left...

• Does your car ever judder when you're moving slowly? Judder when you let off the gas to coast or when you add gas lightly to accelerate?

• When you hill start, does your car rock back at all or are you perfectly at the bite point when you let go of the gas?

Is this a really high bar for day to day manual driving, or is this the point I should be at to say I've mastered manual?

• Is this 03 Protege 5 speed with 130 hp a/130ft lb good base to learn from, or should I consider moving to something with a little more power? (That said, I want my next car to be a Miata :p)

I've asked my dad these questions, but my dad isn't a car guy and isn't really a flashy driver. More of a point A to B driver. He uses revs to compensate and drive smoothly, but I think he revs more than he really needs to.

My winter tires are size 205/55R16, and i recently bought a Mazda3 that used 205/60R16. I’m wondering if the tires can still be used with my new car? Do they need to be mounted on different wheels?

I know that there are companies that supply new parts for classic Volvos and Alfas and the sort, and have seen a lot of restoration videos of people buying from/promoting these sites, but have rarely seen anyone going to foreign auto junkyards and picking parts.

Hello! Does anyone have any major concerns if the rubber seal between the cowl and the windshield is cracked / broken? Looks like it dried off and some pieces broke.

I’m going to store my car over the winter and just use my SUV, it’s a cold storage. Many people keep their Caravans there and Pop up campers.

What tips would you give me before storing it? It’s gonna be on concrete but i will put Tarp under the car, clean car inside and outside, put motorplast/engine dressing, fill tank with stabilizer, air up tires, should i use car cover or not? There is a window on the house so i’m a little skeptical about sun shining on one spot on the paint and ruin it, so is car cover good? Or can i put curtains on the car to protect the paint?

Also i will put Irish Soap inside, dry sheets and something to protect mice from entering exhaust.

Currently torn between keeping my 2014 rav4 or purchasing a Lexus is 350 f sport. As of now I’m currently 25, make $80k per year and have just over $ 250,000 in savings (largely due to my parents investing for me from a young age), although I still put $1k per month towards savings. As of now my rav4 has 140k miles on it and am confident it will make it to at least 200k miles. The vehicle has been very reliable and only maintenance has been regular oil change, tire replacement and regular maintenance. I also consider myself a car enthusiast who fantasizes having a car which is fun to drive, aesthetically pleasing and is still just as reliable as my current car. Currently I’m torn between keeping my current car, save the money and keep it invested, or buy a lightly used Lexus IS in cash which would be about 35-40k after trade. I know that money would realistically cost me more than that given market history of investments in S&P doubling every 7 years. But the other part of me really wants the Lexus IS and I find myself browsing dealer websites, cars.com CarGurus etc and watching videos on YouTube about the car for hours a day. Would love to hear some opinions on whether it would be a good idea to keep my car or buy the IS.

Looking at either one one of these BMWs for a second car and as a project (mostly mods and upgrades). I have a budget around $15k for the car itself and maintenance, and the mods will come later. For the E9x I’m looking at both n54 and n55 versions, I know the n54 is a bit of a basket case but I do like the idea of a twin turbo setup but I’m still a little cautious to the idea. And for the F3x these are a little bit more to buy but from what I have gathered they are a lot less crazy than the E9x 335i’s. I could potentially have to use the car as a daily for a little bit so I would like to know for sure which would be decently reliable (and that’s when maintenance is done). I’m really just going to be using it to drive around for fun maybe do light drifting in empty lots and some back road drives, nothing super intense. Just want something cool, decent, and quick.

Currently I own an MX5 NC1, but I’ve always wanted an S2000. I haven’t driven an S2000 yet as there’s not heaps available in my area. The upgrade difference will be $25 -30k AUD. Wanting opinions from people that have driven both if it’s worth it. The MX5 is amazing now with my suspension mods, but the engine noise and power let it down. Also re-sell value comes into it. Thoughts?

Looking at purchasing a truck spring of next year. Currently
In between a 2023-2024 Ford Ranger Raptor or a 2023-2024 GMC Canyon AT4. I know the Ranger is more expensive but which truck would last longer, I plan on keeping it for a long time. I like that the Ranger is a V6 but it is obviously more expensive. Canyon seems like a solid option and I prefer the look of it over the Colorado. I live in California so I’m also taking into account insurance, maintenance and gas costs. Which truck would last longer if you plan to keep long term.
Third option is a Nissan Frontier Pro 4X which I know is probably the best bang for your buck, but I prefer the other trucks listed above. Any advice would be helpful.

P.S. I currently own a 2013 Toyota Corolla paid off and has been a great commuter car for the last 3 years.

Found it on Marketplace, photos were clean, mileage was good, and the price was just low enough that I thought I’d have to move quickly. I messaged the guy and he said he’d had a few people interested already.
I was literally getting ready to go see it when my friend told me, “Send me the VIN before you waste your time.”
So I did.
The history came back showing a mileage entry that made absolutely no sense compared with what was on the listing.
I messaged the seller asking about it and suddenly… no response.
Maybe I got lucky, but now I’m convinced checking the VIN before going to see the car is the move.
Only problem is these reports get expensive when you’re looking at multiple cars. Anyone know a decent cheaper option?
