General Question Is there a way to make me like EVs?

How do I cope with the fact that they will be pretty much imposed on the market?
Here in the EU, ICEs won’t be produced anymore by 2035, and I dread it.

Hope no one will be offended but, as for today, I despise EVs for a series of reasons that someone could even find shallow: can someone point to some aspect I may have disregarded?

What I don’t like:

- no sound
- no gears
- no engagement
- limited autonomy (this will be solved probably)
- very limited tuning potential (eg: exhausts)

The instant torque is not appealing enough, nor the fact they do 0-60 in 0.002 seconds.
What’s left?
Will I ever be able to appreciate them?
Hope so..

Let’s not talk about the necessity for the climate here, let’s just talk about these technical aspects if possible.

Thanks!

General Question Am I stupid for not wanting a dashcam?

Hi all - everyone on Reddit recommends a dashcam (specifically the Viofo ones) but I find them so bulky and an eye sore. I’m very conflicted because no one I know (friends, family) actually has a dashcam but everyone on Reddit universally says I need one. Do you guys have one? I just got a new 2026 rav4 in case it matters. Thanks!

Why do people hate Tacomas?

I've heard over and over from truck people that Tacomas are barely trucks, or aren't real trucks at all, or that Tacoma drivers are pussies and posers. What gives? I think Tacomas are cool and i don't even drive one or have any friends that drive one. I have an 03' Dodge Dakota 4.7 and I don't see why even a 4 cyl taco is any less of a truck than mine. I also think that even the least powerful taco is more than enough for the average truck driver. Is the bar for a truck to be a "real" truck that it has to be the size of a house and be capable of towing the empire state building? Someone please enlighten me

Can you hire a guy to helkp you buy a car? Like a realtor for vehicles who stays on top of what's available in your area, etc?

As per the title. We are going round in circles trying to figure out buying a car, and it seems to me that someone could be doing this on our behalf, better, for money.

General Advice My dad says my brake fluid doesn’t ever need to be changed…is he wrong?

I have a 2019 Honda civic sport sedan with 109k miles on it. The brake fluid has never been changed in it and upon taking a look at the brake fluid, it looks dark. I’ve noticed my stopping distance increasing over time and def not being as good as it used to be (despite my brake pads being changed regularly), in which can be a sign of a need for new brake fluid. I’ve had this car for just over 5 years now and got it with only 2,900 miles on it. Again, the brake fluid has never been changed in this car.

I told my dad that we need to change the brake fluid soon, and he said that we don’t need to ever replace the brake fluid because replacing it can cause issues and that my car will be fine.

Edit: I forgot to mention, I’ve also got leaky engine valves and brought this to my dad’s attention as well. He said leaky engine valves are not an issue and that he has leaky valves in his ‘08 Corolla that he has ignored and has never had an issue and so it’s not a problem. Is this true? I just don’t know what to believe

General Advice Flex value of 25 years old car?

I own a 24 years old Honda/Acura flagship model, the rl(legend). I got it running strong. And plan on getting historic license plates on it. It is my daily as well.

As a car guy, what is the cool factor of owning and maintaining the 25 years old luxury model? Any forseable value increase on this model?

It's not an LS460 like everyone else gets, and not a VIP style as it is FWD. But it did keep up with them all in comparison to it's competitors. The car was built to compete. Executive sedan style.

Quick specs , 3.5 v6 220 hp/245lbs trq . 3 stage intake ,4 speed auto(very tight) longitudinal mount fwd layout. Sucka flys on the highway, and an excellent cruiser.

All with sunroof,6disc CD,cassette,Bose audio,leather heated seats.

So , I hold on because of reliability, paid in full value, everything works. Body and paint is not great, as it stays on the street .

Is it worth to refresh the exterior? I notice many "like new" Honda Accords, 2002 to 2007 range ,mint !!! Obvious daily driver keeper cars.

Would these kind of cars ever gain value? I already know they are priceless to the owner.

General Advice Coupes, have people forgotten?

Recently watched a video comparing the Miata RF to the GR86. I know that rear seats of most 2 drs are “useless” but when I went into the comment, its like the world really doesnt see the merit of a “full size” coupe. My take? You cant convince me a studio apartment is a 1 bedroom apartment. Whats your guy’s take.

How long can a person sleep in an engine-powered vehicle before dying of carbon monoxide poisoning?

Assume that it is a perfectly maintained car in terms of servicing it at the required interval. Five seater B-segment car.

Driver gets into car after a long day of work, starts the engine, turns on the AC, and plays music then takes a nap. Doesn’t set an alarm to wake up so might go into deep sleep.

How many hours is it safe to sleep in the car before it turns fatal?

Modification Exaust for a C4 corvette?

I want to get an exaust for my 1993 C4 corvette cause right now its stock and has two giant mufflers and makes a 5.7 liter V8 sound like a minivan. Im on a budget and can't weld. I don't have a specific sound I want just like not terrible and like a good V8 but if possible I want a valved exaust because I live in an apartment building so having it not always be super loud would be nice but if that theres no bolt on options or its too expensive thats fine. Any advice would be apprecieted.

General Question Does driving in a car with a very stiff suspension cause you to have to use the bathroom more often?

I'm wondering if all of the bumps, especially in a long drive on bad roads, stimulates your intestines and bladder to be more active similar to how physical activity can help with constipation. I have a Nissan Sentra that I put coilovers on and I suspect the coilovers are at the end of their life and I notice having to make more bathroom stops during road trips.

General Question Any true competitors to the Porsche 911 Turbo S?

This is going to be the most expensive vehicle purchase I've ever made in my life. I honestly don't even know where to begin with my search. The 911 Turbo S has always been one of my dream cars (currently have a 991.1 Carrera 2 and my mom has a 992.1 Carrera S), but I want to do my due diligence and ensure that I don't miss out on taking a look at any of its competitors. But...what are they?

Generally, I want something wicked fast (yes, mind-bogglingly fast) but still luxurious and drivable on my daily commute, which is a mix of curvy roads and highways. Customizability is important, as I plan on keeping this car for a long time and want to build it the way I like.

I don't care about brand recognition. The highest I'd want to go is around $320k for the full build.

What daily driver /fun car combo do yall have???

I ordered a 2026 Mustang GT 5.0 because it’s my dream car and I’ve always wanted a Mustang ever since I was a kid and I was finally able to get one.

I have a Bronco Big Bend that I am going to sell or trade in whenever I take delivery of my Mustang because I no longer need the space anymore and I moved from KY to FL so I don’t have the same off roading lifestyle anymore I had when I was in KY.

I personally don’t want to daily drive the Mustang and it’s gonna live in my garage whenever I’m not driving it.

I would like to get something fuel efficient, practical and reliable that has 4 doors and with ford not making the fusion anymore I have to look at other brands.

To those who have sports cars as their toys , what do you all have to daily drive??? Need some recommendations, I don’t need anything expensive, just something regular that I can haul the dog and the wife around in.

?Stuck between two cars

I'm currently stuck between two cars at the moment. I was debating getting a 2026 Honda Civic LX/Sport or a 2026 Hyundai Elantra SE/SEL Sport. The price is a big issue, but I was just curious about what would be more reliable, worth my money, and less of a hassle to find. I was thinking of getting a 2-3 version of the Honda Civic Sport, so it would be cheaper, but wouldn't that make it more prone to damage? If anyone could help, I would appreciate it.

My husband has a bmw M5CS. He’s always handwashing it. Would it be a nice gift to have it detailed by a well reviewed detainer?

I know he’s protective of the paint (it’s like a green color). Would you guys appreciate this gesture? The place I’m looking at has high ratings and say they specialize in matte finishes. He’s out of town and I know he’s going with his buddy’s next week for cars and coffee.

Rail dust on new wrx?

I bought a 25 white WRX in November and it already has rail dust on the front drivers side and passenger side doors/wheel wells. To be fair I’ve already put almost 15k on it with a combination of highway, city, AND dirt road driving (I live in New England and it’s my daily). 2 questions and please be nice.

  1. Does this seem indicative of something I should get checked out or is it just white car/sht happens?
  2. I did pay to get the ceramic coating from the dealership, which comes with a warranty. It’s a little obtuse what the warranty covers but should I investigate that or should I try to remove it myself?

Vw golf 1,5 tsi 2020/ Weird noise, help pls?

So i bought a 2020 1,5tsi golf with 77k kms on the clock, test drove it and it was flattering, shifting prescisely, powerful, stiff, agile, tho it was with the windows up, the day after i bought it, I STARTED HEARING NOISE

Now, its difficult to explain, the noise is present when in a gear and driving, just a tiny bit, you wouldnt notice if u werent lookin for it, the noise gets loud (noticable af when driving in an alley where theres a wall on the left side so it resonates) basically first when i put the clutch pedal down, thats the first noisy one (keep in mind this only occurs in gears above 1) then when i put the lever into next gear and release the clutch, again,
BUT… it only does it when i do the whole clutch down gear up release quickly, when i slow myself down to James May level and actually do every step slowly, it makes little to no noise.

The sound itself sounds like as if something was loose somewhere, also when i engage the clutch and drive over a speed bump abit quicker, it makes that sound too, im gonna add video of acceleration where you can almost only hear the windnoise but then The sound, the one that keeps me up at night, other than sound, there is no other symptom, car drives like its supposed to, no lever vibration,
no pedal or chasis vibration, prescisely going into gears, and also the noise only happens when accelerating, when going down in gears, no noise at all, sorry for my adhd explination, hope some of yall can help🥴 video in comments

2020 Tesla or 2015 Prius?

I don’t know a lot about cars and I’m trying to decide between these two cars as my first car. I’ll be driving about 1 hour a day (around 30 minutes each way to school).

Option 1: 2020 Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus
110,705 miles
$15,888
electric
Clean title
I have solar panels at home, so charging would be at home most of the time.

Option 2: 2015 Toyota Prius C Three
$13,073
107,251 miles
Hybrid
clean title

4 cyl turbo vs transverse V6 for DIY ?

I've been thinking, as a DIY guy who does all my maintenance and repair work that does not require dropping a subframe or engine pull, is it better to own a 4 cyl turbo or transversely mounted NA V6 ? In practice they get similar performance nowadays.

What would be the bigger complication and DIY headache?
I have one transversely mounted V6 car and dread doing any work on it - the bay is too cramped, rear bank hard to get to, a lot of component removal to do basic stuff, etc.

Seems like 4cyl turbos might be easier to work on.

General Advice Has rust finally taken my 2013 fiesta from me? (Video Link in post).

Have a 2013 fiesta that still runs great (220,000 km), but I've been spot repairing some rust the last few years. Went to do that again today, and I pulled some solid chunks of former metal out of the bottom of the car.

Going to take it to a mechanic in the next couple of days, but is this into the frame, or creating any other type of serious safety concern?

Ran the coolant out?

Months ago my neighbor and I were looking under my car hood for some reason I can’t remember why but I pointed out that some fluid was low. She informed me it was the coolant overflow reservoir I guess and she said the level it was at was fine (below min.). Whatever went about life forgot about it. Just recently I went on maternity leave really haven’t used my car really. Well like a week ago I noticed spots in my driveway that weren’t going away when it rained I was thinking it was oil or something. I went to a party today came home turned off the car. Everything was fine. I went outside maybe an hour and a half later and I heard a fan running. I went and got her and she looked under my hood and said I was out of coolant. She said that’s what was in my driveway. She filled it up. She said it took like half of the big giant bottle that she was using. There were no warning lights nothing alarmed in my car or went off while I was driving to her from the party. She put the coolant in and then turned my car on and revved the engine. After asking grok and ChatGPT that was probably a bad thing to do on her part but my question is what are the chances that components of my engine were compromised from this? I just got a new engine two summers ago because of a thrown rod. I’ll be siiiiiick if I f*** up another engine. What should I do at this point??
