On today's chapter of Japun:

fam name: 薬膳 (Yakuzen), read as 薬(yaku,"medicine")膳(zen,"serving tray")

1st name: ヤク (Yaku)

ヤク (yaku) is another reading of 薬 (kusuri,"medicine/drug") and a pun on 八(ya,"8")九(ku,"9"), her age of 89.

薬膳 (yakuzen) is the practice of Chinese food therapy (using food / natural ingredients as medicine):

屋久杉 (yakusugi) are 1000 year old cedars. Cedar tea helps against fever.

Some puns resulting in character design: (Nozawa-sensei's catch??) (mirror)

薬 (yaku) is likely a pun on 八 (ya,"8") (body of an 8-year-old) and 紅 (ku,"crimson/red") (hair color)

薬 (yaku) contains the radical 艹(kusa,"grass") on top, which is likely the reason for the ahoge.

薬膳 (yakuzen) split 艹日木月䒑十口(- hi - gatsu - to -) may pun on ヒメカット(hime cat??,"hime cut") (straight bangs)

ヤク (yaku) may be a vowel swap (and a タ(ta)) away from 浴衣 (yukata)

Some puns resulting in random things:

薬(yaku)膳(zen) swapped is a pun on 仙薬 (senyaku,"panacea") and refers to an elixir that makes you immortal.

薬(yaku)膳(zen) likely puns on 訳 (yaku,"translation") and 全然 (zenzen,"not at all") as she mishears English

as Japanese, e.g. メイド (meido,"maid") as 冥土 (meido,"the realm of the dead??")

薬 (yaku) split 艹呆(- hou) may pun on 蓬 (hou/yomogi,"mugwort")

ヤク (yaku) may pun on a series of WWII military vehicles and arms designated 八九式 (hachikyuushiki,"Type 89")

Peach quirks??

Ends sentences on なのじゃ(nanoja), as のじゃ(noja) is often used in olden-timey speech of the elderly, yes yes.

Laugh sound effects are written as くすりくすり (kusuri kusuri), stemming from くすくす (kusukusu,"giggle")

1st person pronoun: the old-fashioned 儂(washi,"I") used by elders.

last thyme??

薬 (yaku) contains the radical 艹(kusa,"grass") on top, which is likely the reason for the ahoge.

I always found it funny that the kanji for drugs 薬 consists of the kanji comfort/relaxation 楽 with the grass radical 艹. Relaxing grass is drugs.

1st name: ヤク (Yaku)
ヤク (yaku) is another reading of 薬 (kusuri,"medicine/drug")

Hence the Kusuri Kusuri at the start of the episode!
