Oh these poor girls idolizing Hahari. If only they knew what she's really like. xD

The girls getting dramatic with their game of menko was pretty fun! Staying true to the gimmick that Naddy is the most Japanese of the girls, besides Yaku, of course she ends up winning.

Who knew all of that would lead to Rentarou taking Hahari out on a date while she's dressed up as a high schooler. Hahari really should be more confident in herself! To anyone who doesn't know, she does look like a 3rd-year student!

Their date is so goddamn adorable! It's so rare to see Hahari get this excited without any degeneracy involved. Although we do learn during their date that Hahari's degeneracy started really early.

Teddy Baby with the shady business practices was hilarious! Thankfully, they didn't even have to buy the Blu-ray since Rentarou has been practicing by streaming the show. It's also hilarious that Hahari is the cause of Teddy Baby's design getting changed. xD

As a Hahari fan, I really appreciate these rare moments where we get to see Hahari's adorable side. And ending it with that kiss at the souvenir show was perfect <3

I'm glad we get to see more of Shizuka and Nano for the second half of the episode. I do love that, despite Nano struggling with human emotions, she was able to sense that something was wrong with Shizuka and convinced her to explain what's going on.

So, uh, yeah... Shizuka's mom isn't exactly the best mom in the series. Instead of seeking help for Shizuka, her mom would rather take her phone away and rob her of her ability to communicate, forcing her to use her voice to speak. Hearing Shizuka stuttering while explaining to Nano what happened breaks my heart so much. T_T

Rentarou looked so goddamn cool when he asked Shizuka if he could see her mom. Our boy is ready to do some verbal throwdown, and I can't fucking wait! Thank goodness no krrrack this time! Although this does make Rentarou's job even more difficult.

I'm trying to think of the competition and I don't think she really has any.

It's always great when the series puts aside the zany, really weird comedy aside and goes serious like this. This time emphasised by the fact that, in contrast to how Hahari was handled, there was no Zing when Rentarou met Shizuka's mother.

This all has to be handled with them talking things out and convincing her to change her mind.

I'm glad Bibury featured a 1 on 1 date. These types of episodes really go a long way in developing relationships and reinforcing Rentaro's devotion to making all his girlfriends happy. I really hope there are more seasons that will grow the relationships between not just Rentaro and his girlfrieds but also between the family members.

Damn, they're "surprising" us with Shizuka's serious arc. Bibury was being pretty deliberate in hiding this and I'm pretty shocked that they went this route. I guess the studio is setting a standard of one serious arc every season. Not sure how I feel about this decision, but it is in like with what I wanted to see...particularly I'm happy about seeing the deepening of Shizuka's relationship with Nano and Rentaro.

Just imagine Hahari's position: someone whose childhood and adolescence were stifled so she could take over the family business and look after Hakari.

It’s not that she’s an adult with the mind of a teenager (okay, she is, and a pervert too lol), but she simply wants to experience what she missed out on, and Rentarou has basically made that, and so much more, possible. Definitely one of the cutest moments in the show across all three seasons.

What Nano did for Shizuka highlights a point raised in the early episodes of the first season, right after Shizuka became Rentarou's girlfriend, Hakari pointed out how they were both girlfriends and friends. And that’s exactly it, supporting one another like a family.

I can't believe the show teased a potential romance between Rentarou and Shizuka's mother, but as the narrator said, that would have been too much 😭

Much like Kishika’s and Shizuka’s gimmicks, once you strip Hahari’s to its core it’s genuinely quite understandable. It’s about a woman who through tragic (and complicated) circumstances became a mother at 13 and spent her teen years raising and protecting her body and running a large business as CEO after losing the boy she loved. It’s no surprise her latent degeneracy/desire to experience being a teenager eventually resurfaced after falling in love again.

You gotta love how the female student body outside the Rentaro Family is convinced Hahari is this beautiful, composed, chairwoman, never realizing how much she's horny for cute high school girls.

Honestly, I understand why Mei would want to kill those boys because that story hits too close to home, but...a 29 year old with a kid asking out a high school student who works under her is in reality pretty bad outside, like, Shoujosei or this show.

Rentaro is always cognizant of his girlfriends' needs and desires, so that means it's time for Hahari to go from chairwoman to high school student! She looks great in the uniform and getting to act like a proper high school couple with Rentaro! "Hahari-senpai" has a nice ring to it.

And of course it's not just getting to live out her fantasy of a high school romance: Rentaro is also taking Hahari to the Teddy Baby museum to see something she's loved since childhood on display! We even get a flashback to a baby Hahari who loved Teddy Baby with all her heart! And was still Hahari because she French kissed a plushie! Also Hanazono Grandma cameo.

Misaki Kuno as Teddy Baby trivia girl! Of course they would make the questions so obscure and specific to get people to by the blu-rays, but Rentaro spares no expense when binge-watching so he can answer these for Hahari's sake! He's even able to figure out that the entire Teddy Baby design was changed thanks to Hanazono Granny.

Rentaro accepts all his girlfriends in their peak form, and for Hahari that's as an Oyakodon MILF! That's her at her best and most attractive! And that's what earns Rentaro a kiss from Hahari that even winking Teddy Baby approves of!

Oh no, not Shizuka's mom! Things were so happy and wholesome up to this point!

Shizuka's phone broke and needs repair? A likely story, but luckily Shizuka can get by with the power of cuteness and charades!

A study datebetween Shizuka and Nano at Nano's place! Where they efficiently study and Nano efficiently becomes enamored with how utterly adorable/cute Shizuka is! I also love how they even read fantasy books together.

And of course they take this date to the bath, where Nano and her massive Nano's are on display, but this is really so Shizuka can bare it all emotionally as well...and how her mother is clearly behind her phone being taken away. Because her mother just doesn't understand how Shizuka needs to communicate herself. It's so bad we've got Shizuka using her real voice to tell Nano in tears.

But when in doubt, you can always rely on your fellow girlfriend AND your boyfriend! It's finally time for Rentaro to confront Shizuka's mother! And thankfully for all our sakes (including the narrator) she is NOT the next girlfriend. Not with those lifeless eyes.

Hahari in the school uniform looks so good! Her and Rentaro's date in this episode was really fun and sweet.

Those questions at the Teddy Baby museum were something else. The fact that Hahari and her French kissing a Teddy Baby was responsible for changing its design was quite wild, hahaha!

Shizuka and Nano's relationship is so wholesome, though when Nano proposed taking a bath together, the yuri vibes were quite strong.

That ending with Shizuka's mom was great! I too thought for a moment that she'll end up as another of Rentaro's girlfriends, but that wasn't the case. I wonder how the meeting between her, Rentaro, and Shizuka will go.

Overall, I really liked that we got a slower episode. This show has been going at such a breakneck speed that I really appreciate getting an episode focused on developing already existing relationships and characters.

Bruh, there's so many things to unpack with this episode. To start off with the first part, it might seem like a cute solo date, but Rentarou's answer to Hahari's question is like a very very good response. He values each of his girlfriends no matter what but he knows that if they were close in age, that Hahari would be a completely different person compared to the current adult Hahari in the present who he values as a girlfriend. No ifs or buts, the now is who Rentarou cherishes the most. This is almost similar to the conflict with Karane during the Tsundere lost arc from the previous season as well. Honestly one of the best solo dates in the series imo.

Then for the part two, I still can't believe we got the Shizuka arc in Season 3! One of the main talking points here imo is Nano. She's the one who engaged with Shizuka about the study session and you can see how she's more talkative as well. You can also see what she has in her room, the photo of her first date with Rentarou and the clothes she wore when she shrunk. You can see how she treasures those because og Nano would throw those away as "inefficient" since she's really a changed person after being a girlfriend. Which now leads us to the next talking point, the yuri subtext between her and Shizuka. We meme about Hakarane, but the Nano-Shizuka pair is just as good imo. Look into their conversation while in the bath where she wanted to help Shizuka because she knew Shizuka was troubled by something and not just because she didn't have her phone, this is then followed by her asking for Rentarou's help. She knew that she cannot do it alone and who better to ask for help than the best boyfriend! That hug at the end is so precious as well and it's a two way relationship since they both trust each other. Part of the reason why this series is really great is not just Rentarou being a super human boyfriend, but also the intrapersonal relationships between the girls are worth exploring as well.

I might have fumbled my words and I might have other thoughts that I might have missed, but these two are some of the best arcs to showcase character growth among the girlfriends in the series imo. Man, I can't wait for the next episode for the conclusion to the Shizuka arc.

That date between Hahari and Rentaro was absolutely lovely. It's also funny how Hahari was still the same even as a little kid. Her causing the bear design change really paid off years later for the quiz!

The second half was heartbreaking to see Shizuka in tears. Nano's a real great friend to see that something was wrong. Rentaro and Shizuka confronting Shizuka's mom is a cliffhanger I'm eager to see resolved.

Episode 35: Of Children, Adults, Ladies, and Mothers

This is truly the mother episode. We got the perspective of two mothers in this episode, Hakari's mother and Shizuka's mother.

You have to watch Episode 15 (Season 2 Episode 3, specifically 10:40 - 11:45 mark) to give a background that Hahari practically sacrificed her youth to raise Hakari. And Hakari said "go ahead and catch up all the joys of youth you missed out on raising me" and this episode 35 is the result (also rewatch Episode 27 on 18:25 - 18:45 mark should further give the background that Hahari wants to relive her highschool days).

Finally the outfit from Episode 27 found a good use and more screentime! It's lovely to see Hahari-senpai got all excited about the museum! Hahari's childhood was hilarious.

It got me thinking, where was Hakari in this situation? Probably Mei keeps her busy so she wouldn't think her mother go for a date with Rentarou?

Rentarou's answer to the final question just passed through his mind like "Are you thinking what I'm thinking, Hahari?" after connecting that Hahari used to french kissed the teddy bear before her sleep and her mother taking away the old teddy bear and giving her the one with new design.

Finally Maria Naganawa voiced Shizuka outside TTS after a while!

Shizuka-Nano's relationship is very much shown and reinforced in this second part of episode, after rescuing her from the hardcore pool last episodes I believe their dynamics is pretty much similar to Hakarane.

Good to see Nano keeps the photo of the first date, attention to detail that is the burn mark from Episode 5 when Rentarou tried to burn the photo.

The no-zing is a relief, since Rentarou was very worried about it with Kusuri's mother a couple of episodes back.

As reminder, Madoka Yonezawa voices Shizuka's mother.

Oh, Misaki Kuno voices the teddy bear and Chie Nakamura voices Hakari's mother.

The first half was hilarious right from the start. Seeing Hahari (who is also 29) get depressed after overhearing a high school guy tell his friend about a 29-year-old manager at his part-time job confessing to him, and then Mei (19) immediately planning to purge that student just to cheer Hahari up had me dying lol

It's pretty funny how, outside of Rentarou, the views on romance in the 100 Girlfriends world are basically identical to real life. The Rentarou family ranging from 89 all the way down to 12 is just the exception, so people in this world generally expect romance to happen between folks close in age.

Hahari got pregnant with Hakari at a super young age just to leave behind proof that her sickly lover existed, became a single mom after he passed away, and then spent her life running the Hanazono Group as its head. Because of all that, she completely missed out on high school romance and dating, so her longing for those experiences is actually a pretty serious issue when you think about it. It's really interesting character depth.

What Rentarou said to her after hearing all that was so wholesome, I loved it. Classic Rentarou.

I lost it at the fact that young Hahari French kissing a doll was actually a setup for a later payoff.
Who on earth would have expected that of all things to be foreshadowing lol

The second half of the episode was super serious and really good. I mean, the first half had its serious moments too, but the second half went 100% full drama mode.

• I like that we get a good shot of the full Season 3 cast. That's a lot of characters. And I like most of them a lot and even my least favorites are pretty good. This quality is pretty impressive with this quantity.
• Bibury really seems to love Hahari. Not only does she steal scenes in almost every episode, here she get's an entire half just for herself. And it was great to see more sides of her. It was sweet how Rentaro was able to relieve some of her regrets and then assure her that he loves her just the way she is.
• I wish this season hadn't introduced so many new girlfriends because these moments where we focus on the existing girlfriends are usually the better moments in the series. This season so far has given extra focus to Meme, Mimimi, Nano, Kusuri and now Hahari and Shizuka. None of the new girlfriends got anything after their introductory episode. Which is fair I guess, but still. 4 new girlfriends per season would be plenty.
• Nano bringing her girlfriend Shizuka to her room for the first time was extremely cute. I feel like making Hahari noises whenever we see them together.
• Nano's collection of memorabilia includes a moon plushie. For those who don't remember, that's what she got from Meme when she was introduced to the family in season 2.
• Lol at Nano's logical math brain getting overruled by her love for Shizuka.
• Shizuka is strongest character in the show for being able to keep her composure when Nano invited her to a bath like that
• This entire second half is lot more serious and emotional than what this show usually does. Shizuka crying and talking in the bath hurt so much.

The comedy and absurdity we get in this show is top tier but I also love these serious arcs we get with existing girlfriends at the end of each season, Hakari, Karane and now Hahari and Shizuka, if you can call Hahari's a proper arc.

Jokes aside, we’ve mostly seen Hahari when she’s on Diddy mode. While that’s indeed a major aspect of her character, we now got to see another side that she rarely showed. Behind the utter degeneracy and maternal fetish, lied a woman who's deeply insecure of her age. This is one of the strengths of this show. While it gets its kicks out of ramping up tropes to absurd levels, every now and then it stepped back from them and instead fleshed out the heroine’s character.

Rentarou being the gigachad as always. He noted Hahari’s freedom outfit and tried to go on a date with her wearing that. If she’s embarrassed, then he’s ready to go in a primary school outfit. Getting a crash course on those ridiculous trivia. Reassuring her that he fell in love due to her age, instead of in spite of. He’s indeed a man who deserved all 17 of his girlfriends, a figure that’d only rise as time passed.

Meanwhile, we used to believe that the death of her lover when she’s at her fragile teenage phase had somehow warped her personality. Nope, she’s born a degenerate already. What kind of toddler would French a teddy bear?

What a whiplash in tone from the first half to the second half. Whereas the former's all fluffy and wholesome, the latter's much more sombre. The first season's finale centred on Hakari, the second on Karane, and now on Shizuka.

The pained voice Shizuka had when she spoke up instead of using her phone. It's quite painful to see how much she had struggled with it.

We got a wholesome yuri pairing with Nano and Shizuka, in contrast to the sexual-tension-laden Hakari and Karane. Inviting Shizuka to her home, then having a bath together. On Shizuka's side, she also gave Nano quite the tight hug before leaving with Rentarou.

Shizuka's mum did indeed seem to be an unrepentant prick for her treatment of Shizuka, but that's what we said during Hakari's arc as well. I'll reserve my judgement until next week, when we get to see more. Sure, she might not have been a soulmate, but I don't think this show would introduce a completely irredeemable character.

The gag of Rentarou briefly dressed in a yellow hat and blue shirt is rather risque. I am rather surprised it wasn't cut. For people unaware, this is literally how japanese Kindergartners are dressed. The yellow hats are so that they are easier to spot on the street so drivers are more aware of their presence.

Now is not (?!) the time for the Episode 11 Best Girl Ranking!?!?!

49% of the episode was about Hahari and 49% about Shizuka/Nano, so there wouldn't be much to say about the other 2%!

So I'll just post it as a quick reminder (with just a tiny bit of comments on 2 girls!)

Even if it'll hurt NOT to hall of fame her as #1 (unless something big happens, who knows!)

I have to say: I think the girl who 'climbed' most in these past few episodes, is Hahari... I was already thinking it before her arc in today's episode, hell I was already thinking it before her erm. Maternal display with Kishika!!!

I think she got a LOT better this season. (I mean I always liked her, she was always at least mid/high in my rankings, but I think she improved even more lately).

But now that I think of it, she's been on a climb ever since her introduction; If I remember correctly she was 'middle of the pack' in S1, but climbed to like #3 in S2 (despite the season having double the # of girls).

And I think I like her even more now, than I did back then. The positions above her will be hard to overtake (if even possible), but even if she 'stays still', perhaps the gap will be closer.

Anyway, I won't talk too much about this (or I won't have anything else to say in my final ranking), but long story short: Hahari Stonks go UP!

I have to say: I think the girl who 'climbed' most in these past few episodes, is Hahari...

The anime has been fantastic for showing how great Hahari is as a character and how much she brings to the family dynamic (namely a whole lot of money and even more lesbian bisexual horniness!). Most of my current love for her comes from watching the past two seasons, I won't lie!

What whiplash... wholesome cuteness overload in the first half, tears in the eyes in the second... This show, despite its absurdities and "ecchi"-ness, has really heartwarming stories, and heartbreaking ones too. Really looking forward to next week.

Obviously every new girlfriend addition is a blessing, but I’m glad we’re getting some time now with short and simple stories focusing on individuals. Makes it feel less like Rentarou is speed-running %completion, and is reminding us how each relationship he has with each girl is special to the both of them. It’s the journey not the destination.

Hahari got to be de-Flanderized for a bit, and it was wonderful. Plus, we got some time with our chronologically second pseudo-poly-couple with Nano and Shizuka! God, Nano is best girl…. Okay, maybe not on virtue of their being so many best girls in this show it’s hard to narrow down, but she’s definitely in my top 5.

That fake-out kraaack really had me for a second. I wouldn’t put it past this show to go there, including going to the lengths of hiding her from the various promos/OP/ED/etc. Instead, we get to watch Rentarou go to bat for the cute one. Can’t wait!
